Stopped by Barista Blues with a few coworkers on Monday because Malia is closed for lunch & we didn't want pub food. Barista Blues is really tasty! The specials all sound amazing. You order up at the counter and grab a number & they bring your food to you. I went with the angus cheeseburger special. It was a really tender, juicy cheeseburger. Had a little bit too much mayo for me, but still tasty! I also subbed out the potato chips for salad. Everything is made-to-order so you can customize anything you want! Absolutely AMAZING! We ordered takeout for an employee luncheon. 8 entrees (sandwiches and salads) were completed within 25 minutes of ordering. Food was amazing, perfect portion sizes. We ended up forgetting to place one order, and the staff was SO quick to receive our call and make that as quickly as possible for pick-up. The gal working up front (will edit once I get her name) was SO incredible. So friendly and quick, as with the entire staff, even when they had almost a full house when I arrived! Again, she was more than happy to get our entree in on the fly, even though that was a mistake on my end. The cafe itself is small and cozy. Perfect for a coffee or lunch date, as the noise level doesn't get too crazy other than early mornings and lunch rushes, which is expected. I didn't get a chance to try the coffee, but it smelled phenomenal. Can't wait to order again. Also excited to try their take home meals! read more

Why have I never been here before?! This place is fun and trendy while being down to earth and amazingly friendly. This could easily rival any restaurant in town, and they treated absolutely every patron as if they were a family member. The most amazing part, the patrons were so friendly they talked to us like we were part of their dining room experience. I've written all of this and I haven't even gotten to the actual food! Wednesday night is Italiano night! The only night this establishment is open (sad face!) it's worth it to make this your Wednesday evening dinner spot. My husband and I both ordered the lasagna, my son got spaghetti. The meal comes standard with a delicious and fresh garden salad. I never eat my tomatoes and I finished them. I also typically leave croutons over, but I had to struggle not to finish these. The bread that came with our food was soft and airy, at first I was disappointed it wasn't warm, but upon biting into it, I didn't mind one bit. The lasagna was huge, definitely a two meal portion, aka tomorrow's lunch! The sauce was zingy with just enough acid, there was a ton of ricotta which I love! My son's spaghetti was very good and I stole a meatball and I'm very glad I did. As a self-proclaimed meatball snob, I typically only like my homemade meatballs, but I could easily retire my recipe and just eat theirs. Then, I couldn't resist their eye catching dessert tray. Two pillowy, sweet cannolis and a spumoni blackout later, I happily waddled toward the exit, where the owner, and our spectacular server, Sarah wished us a great evening and said genuinely that they hoped we returned. This place is a diamond in the ruff for the Battle Creek area. Located downtown, Barista Blues is a small mom and daughter business that provides a limited but fantastic menu that is a great place to grab a bite to eat or a quick lunch. The owner MayAnn and the staff here is as fantastic as the food, they welcome you like family. While this may not be the place to go if you are looking for a "family Dinner" of steaks and appetizers, the lunch, soup and sandwich menu has some fantastic options. If you like that kind of thing, the homemade spinach quiche is a must try if you can get there early enough to get some. They also offer custom coffee options that are very good if you are on the go in the morning downtown. This was a really adorable little place. A bit more than a coffeeshop, but a bit less than a full-fledged restaurant, you can get a meal but won't be pushed out the door if you just want to read your book for an hour or two. At lunchtime, the place was relatively empty, save a few raucous regulars. So if lots of laughter and joking-around-type noise bothers you, I'd suggest bringing some headphones and tunes. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We had tuna sandwiches. Mine was on a black bean wrap which was definitely the wrong choice. It was dry and a lot of wrap for the amount of tuna in it. My husband's was on a croissant and better. The tuna was white and somewhat bland. It could have used more flavoring with onions and celery! Came here for lunch and ordered the roast beef sandwich that was the special for the day with a cup of tomato soup. The soup had to have been Campbell's soup because it tasted exactly the same or they found Campbell's secret recipe...So I was already disappointed with the quality of soup. The sandwich was meh...it was on a generic bun that you get from the grocery store as opposed to a fresh bakery. The entire meal was nothing I couldn't have done myself for a lot cheaper. My fiancé ordered the salad and it had iceberg lettuce rather than a romaine or arugula type of lettuce that is way more greener and healthier. Overall, for the quality of food that I received, I don't feel it was bistro quality compared to other local bistros I have been to. Definitely some room for improvement. read more

This has become my go-to lunch spot anytime I'm in Battle Creek. It's right off the main drag in an unassuming door by numerous empty storefront. Luckily they're still around, and that's probably because of their fresh and delicious food. Usually I end up ordering one of their sandwiches in wrap form, and get the side of fruit. The food is usually out quickly, and both the fruit and the sandwich have a refreshing crisp to them so that you can tell the fruits and veggies are fresh. Last time I was in I also ordered a cannoli. It was pretty good, but a touch on the grainy side. read more

This is a great place for lunch. They are always very busy, so it's best to come early! The friendly staff and good food make up for the times I need to wait (which is not often). Some of my favorites are the Chicken & Grape Salad Sandwich (Tuesday special), the Italian Panino, the BBQ Pork Sandwich (Thursday special), and the Greek Salad. And the quiches :) read more
