As of July, 2021, Bark Avenue Pet Resort is under new ownership. As a loyal customer for many years, I was caught off guard at the change in management and rate increases when I boarded my dog in August. I walked in and immediately noticed some improvements in the rebrand and lobby design which looked nice, so I asked the person checking me in, and she said "I'm the new owner." without taking time to introduce herself by name or mentioning the changes in policy or how the boarding rate increased from $35 to $45 dollars a day. The vibe definitely seemed different, and it wasn't a great first impression. The business is currently owned and operated by a former customer, and I think that connection is neat because it shows faith in the organization. That's a cool story, and I sure wish I had received notification about that and the new business transition. If you're in charge, transparency in client communication should be just as important as taking great care of animals. My dog lost weight while there, and we were sent home with over 50% of her food supply because she is an anxious dog, but I've never experienced this while boarding her before. I appreciate the time the owner took talking with me over the phone because I called her to discuss my experience after we picked up our dog. The business seems understaffed and current employees undertrained, and those factors really came across in the whole experience. I have been boarding my dogs at Bark Ave. for about 5 years. My dogs love this place and the staff. They are friendly & welcoming. However, my most recent experience has me questioning the company's integrity. The dog I have now was boarded at Bark Ave from 09/24/24 - 09/30/24. When I dropped her off on Wednesday of last week she was in good health and I requested that she have a bath before I pick her up on 09/30. When I picked her up on Monday, the assistant manager brought her out, I paid them & left. My dog was very quiet, mind you after not seeing me in 5 days. When we got home she started rubbing her had on the floor and shaking her head. I took a look at her and noticed her left eye was swollen shut, so I had to open her eye to see what was going on. Her eye was so red it looked like it was bleeding and burned or something. I called Bark Ave and spoke with the assistant manager. I sent her a picture. She agreed that it was swollen. I asked what happened, she stated she was aware of any incidents that could have caused this. I immediately took my dog to the vet. The doctor examined my dog's eye and diagnosed her with a superficial Corneal Abrasion. He also stated that the abrasion could have been caused by the shampoo that was used for her bath. I informed Bark ave of the diagnosis and they immediately began to deny that this incident was not caused by their staff. I absolutely disagreed and requested to speak with the owner or manager. The owner immediately sent me an email denying any involvement with causing this injury. I sent the owner a copy of the doctor's note, her response was since the doctor mentioned that "the shampoo could have been the cause, but could not confirm" she is not responsible. What business person who really cares about the people/pets that they service, would deny the possibility of a simple human error? We all know that shampoo could have easily dripped into a dog's eye while the dog is moving around when being bathed. I used to speak very highly of Bark Avenue Pet Resort and I've also referred a couple of people... Not anymore. I have attached a picture of my dog when we got home from the vet's office. read more

I went there for a tour not long ago and was shown the place and the yards by computer screen at the front desk. Why are there no canopies or large tents in the yards in this summer heat? There were dogs in all the yards on the computer screen and not a single shady spot for the dogs or employees. How is this ok?? My baby will NOT be going here. Dogs can overheat easily! The lady with one arm wasn't very accommodating. I talked to someone who said that I could come by and see the facility as I was leaving my dog for the first time ever and was very concerned on how he would be treated. I walked in and told the lady I was there to just tour the facility as my dog needs boarding. She told me that I couldn't. Sorry, but I am not leaving my dog in a strange place especially if I don't know if its clean. She also said they only get to go out 6 times a day. My dog is a Chiweenie with quite a bit of energy so that wouldn't work for him. Eventually, I was able to see like one room in person and the rest of the facility on their cameras. Not ideal for something who hasn't left their dog in the 2 years I've had him. Ultimately, I decided on another facility, a little further, $2 more and they actually have live webcams where I could see my dog. read more

My baby has been coming since November 2020 when we moved to the area. Originally, yes it was cheap but smelled like death and my dog acted like he was going to die as they took him back -- yes he is a little dramatic. Since Shawn took over --- OMG! The smell improvement alone speaks wonders! But her team that she has built says so much more! Every staff member makes a point to know each dog parent and dog so when you walk in to pick up, they don't have to ask who you are here to pick up? My pup is "extra" and used to cry like a toddler when getting dropped off, the whole staff knew it. Kris and Tamika would make sure to distract him as I left and reassured me he was happy as soon as I was out of sight. Picking up with Cory, Camron and Lexie is a breeze and my pup doesn't want to leave. The staff is happy and extremely friendly -- they really seem to love being there and that is a great sign of leadership. Our little girl LOVES going to Bark Avenue!! I had never boarded a dog before and I was so nervous to do so, but they have always made me feel at ease that she loves to be there (she loses her mind when we get close to pulling in the parking lot, so that's always a good sign). We took her there even before the new management recently took over, and I've been thrilled with all of the updates they've made. They've recently done some renovations that make it look nice, the place actually smells CLEAN every single time (it used to reek of pee a lot of the time before new management took over), and the staff is super friendly. My dogs tail just wags when she sees some of the staff there. They're also getting a lot better about posting daily Instagram photos, and I love when I see my little girl pop up on the daily photos. They're prices are totally reasonable for both boarding and daycare (day camp is $28 and boarding is $40 a day) - yes, the prices increased recently, however I still feel like the costs are reasonable. They have an online service that makes it super easy to request daycare or boarding and they're really quick to confirm your reservation (before you'd have to call and pray someone picked up the phone to reserve anything) Huge kudos to the new management for what they've done, and to the entire staff for making my baby feel comfortable to be there! read more

Find another boarder. Loved this place for years with the original owner. Has gone down hill significantly. Tried calling multiple times during regular business hours with no answer, only a recording saying "mailbox full." I had a travel issue that was going to push me back an hour and wanted to let them know. I showed up 45 minutes after my scheduled pickup and was charged and additional $28. Not only that, we had requested a nail trim before pickup. Nail were not done when I arrived and I was asked to wait 15-20 minutes (but was still charged the $28 for 45 minute late pickup). Then they bring her out without her nails done and said "she wouldn't cooperate." Also the lobby was a mess. Fining a new place to board before next trip. read more

I have taken my dog to bark avenue since he was a baby and never worried about him until recently. The place was bought from the previous owner and I will never go back again. Yes, a facelift for the interior has been done and looks better but the care of my dog isn't the same. He was only there for 4 days recently and has only been home for 4 days and he isn't the same dog. He is scared, which he has never been before, has an infection all over his feet and has been limping since I got him home. I will never take him there again! I will never know what happened while he was there but people beware taking your animal here! Also, prices went up, new owner isn't friendly at all and the new people that work there don't have a clue. Disappointing as the previous owner was amazing and cared about her clients and their dogs, this new owner doesn't seem to care and I won't be back!!! read more

I adopted Sasha and shortly after determined that she has extreme separation anxiety. Once I determined that her anxiety was hurting her, I knew I needed to put her in daycare. When we first went to Bark Avenue, she was very timid. She didn't want to go in the door at all. But when she was greeted by the Bark employee, she warmed up immediately. Now, we go to Bark Avenue daily. Now, if I'm not careful, Sasha will jump out the car and run to the door without me! Sasha loves this place and they love her. We recently evacuated Florida during Hurricane Irma to stay in Atlanta. The owner and staff couldn't have been friendlier to make sure they could accommodate us during a very stressful time. The owner took my wife on a tour of the facility when we arrived. My wife was very impressed by the decor and how clean everything was. When I arrived to pick up Bo (14 yr. old beagle) a few days later, the owner asked how we were doing from the storm and wished us well. Bo was very happy when we picked him up and it's clear he was taken very good care of while at Bark Avenue. I will start my review by stating the elder couple who owns/runs this facility are very nice and personable. You only get a tiny preview of the actual establishment, wish I could have viewed more and maybe I should have inquired to do so? Bark seemed loaded with dogs which is usually a good sign, as its a HUGE facility, most won't board their dogs somewhere unkept. I had previously popped in for an unexpected visit while looking for another facility (I actually preferred but they were booked for Easter wknd) and I had my directions screwed up. I was promptly greeted, shown the small area for smaller breeds and *note - there were a few dogs boarded right out in the lobby (is this a good idea)? Sometimes the lobby area is unattended for a very brief period as the staff chks on the dogs..... The part I liked best was there is always someone on duty 24/7 :-) Bark appeared clean and well lighted. I filled out some paperwork and faxed over my dogs credentials (my little dog was accompanying me as well :-) I always like to have her with me when I visit new possibilities. I'd stopped boarding at PetSmart due to overpricing (especially for 1 overnight stay :-( , but not for any other reason. Bark has very reasonable pricing. Next AM, I dropped my little girl off early, with her bed, toys and food, gave a kiss and was on my way outta town just for overnight. I returned to pick her up the next late afternoon and everything (but a slight odor on her dog bed *not urine* was slightly unusual?) She appeared happy (to see me of course:-), tailiwaggin ..... Unfortunately when we got home, in about an hour something was not quite right? My dog has severe diarrhea, continuously throughout the night! Needless to say I was up all night and very concerned. I have been boarding my dog since she was about 2 and she is now 6. I have NEVER had any problems when she's come back home, so I was alarmed. About 5am I finally got some chicken and rice in her to calm her stomach and before she dehydrated. I also gave her ice chips. I never called Bark to complain, I tried to consider that possibly being a new place to stay for her stressed her somewhat, of course other thoughts were running thru my head; "did they feed her properly AND the right food I furnished?"; did anyone play with her?"; "did someone spook or yell at her"?; "she hates poppin sounds"; "what was that odor on her bed?'.....etc.... What I will say is I cannot simply place blame with the facility totally and maybe I should have called them or followed up , but I just thought they would say "nothing unusual happened or we didn't do anything to her". Instead I have chosen not to board with Bark again based on this first time not-so-good experience. Every dog is different... read more

My dog is special, she gets overwhelmed easily by other dogs and has been known to get into trouble at boarding places where the dogs just run around with each other all day. She is also a boxer/ pit mix and a lot of pet resorts (doggie day care and boarding places) have breed restrictions, which is BS but I am not going down that road. Then a co-worker recommended Bark Avenue and all my previous anxiety about where to board my dog evaporated. It is an excellent Mom and Pop run pet resort. They recognize that not all dogs can be in massive packs running around all day with little supervision. They specialize in "non socialized canine care", which means your dog doesn't interact with other dogs but gets plenty of people attention. As far as I know they are the only pet resort that has this. My dog gets a comfy good sized den with a cover because she has a propensity to climb chain link and is taken out and played with by a human 5-7 times a day. They have 24 hour staffing, which is unheard of and this kind of Astroturf grass so the dogs aren't running around on concrete all day. When I pick my dog up after boarding she is relaxed and tired. She is happy to go home but she isn't running out the door like she did at other places. read more

I'm a little torn on how many stars to give because I had 2 really different experiences here... We boarded our 11 year old dog who's become incontinent and I know he's a lot to handle. They were very nice during the whole process, from booking, to returning him back to us. I'm pretty sure he had a fine time, as the facility is fairly large and the outdoor area is pretty large too. I was impressed, and planned to bring him back. We booked his 2nd stay at Bark Avenue during a holiday weekend. On the phone I was told it was a busy week, and so they were only taking return reservations (meaning, we had to have boarded him previously- they were not taking new dogs during that time). Fortunately, we had boarded him previously, which I disclosed, and then my reservation was confirmed. About 3 weeks before our vacation, I received a call from Bark Avenue letting me know there had been a mistake in my booking. Unfortunately, the person who handled my reservation was mistaken about the availability during the Sunday and Monday of the week I had booked. There was absolutely no space for my boy. Not only was I disappointed because I had finally found a place that seemed to take good care of my aging dog and they were telling me 'no' after previously saying 'yes', but this was 3 weeks before Labor day, folks. Not cool at all. I really had to hustle to get a reservation elsewhere. I'm giving Bark Avenue 3 stars- They definitely took good care of my dog during his stay- that's what all 3 stars are for. I'm withholding the other 2 stars for the poorly organized scheduling system they seem to have in place. It almost cost me my vacation which I take very personally. read more

I usually take her once a week so she can socialize and get some exercise, and the people at Bark Avenue have always taken good care of her. It's really easy to book a reservation online, their prices are really competitive for a whole day of daycare, and they are super convenient to my house...I don't think I could ask for anything else. We have trusted Bark Avenue with our hybrid dog Willie for over 5 years. Vena and Simon have provided a consistent welcome to us and Willie at every drop off/pick up. We recently moved to the area and tried a couple of other daycares before finding Bark Avenue and this place is by far the best! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, great rates, the facility is excellent and the extended hours (7am to 7pm) really accommodate our busy work schedules. We have two boxers and Nicki and the other staff members do a great job pairing them with other like tempered dogs to make sure everyone gets along. In addition I have received several pictures via text on different days of our dogs playing in the yard. This is not just a place to drop your dog off and have have them put in a crate until you pick them up, the staff truly cares and takes the time to have one on one time with them. I'm a new customer (seems relevant to say since some of the negative reviews are from long-term customers). We have never used a kennel to board our dog before using Bark Avenue but I was thoroughly impressed with our experience. Our pet sitter cancelled on us last-minute and we had to board our sweet girl for a night or 2 for a recent trip. I'm knocking off a single star just because it's hard to get ahold of anyone on the phone. I stopped in the store since it's on my way to work anyway and spoke with the owner (Shawn) and she was SO nice and so accommodating. I was able to get off work early to bring our pup in for a temperance test and the manager (I forget her name) was amazing as well! Everyone was so nice even though I know I would have been annoyed with myself asking all these last minute requests but they were all very professional and helpful! My girl seemed very happy when I picked her up and I will definitely use Bark Avenue again! I found their pricing reasonable and it seems like they know what they're doing. I love that they have a 'non-social' side of the facility for pups like mine who LOVE humans but aren't so fond of other canines. From my experience, I would highly recommend this facility for your dog. Also, the hours seem normal to me as they open at 7am and close at 6:30pm. read more

We moved across town so can no longer take our Vizsla, Emmylou, to Bark Avenue for doggy daycare, and we really miss them. Emmylou never dreaded going -- she actually started wagging her tail as we would get close to the facility and then, once out of the truck, she would start pulling me to go inside. The staff gave her so much attention and she was able to go outside regularly to play with two or three other dogs at a time. And when I say "play," I mean actual time that the staff was engaged with the dogs and didn't just toss them outside to wander around on their own. These folks absolutely love the dogs that they care for. That's the bottom line. When Emmylou stayed there, I knew I didn't need to worry about her. Today I remembered to write a review for others because we're going to go to Bark Avenue for a lunchtime visit tomorrow for Emmylou to see all her old friends. read more

I was super nervous to board my little Yorkie as she's never been boarded before, but we had to find a place while me and my husband went out of town. Bark Avenue was recommended to me and it had good reviews so that's where we went. We toured the facility a week before we dropped her off, and the couple who runs Bark Avenue were more than happy to show us all around including where the dogs are kept and sleep and where they play outside. Very clean facility and cute areas to make the dogs feel a little more at home. They even have pools out back for the dogs to play in when it is hot! The day we dropped her off I was immediately put at ease when we met Nikki who is one of the ladies who takes care of the dogs - I knew our dog would be in good hands with her! I also loved that she posted photos to Bark Avenue's facebook page so I could see my little one while I was away!! She was there 5 days, and when we picked her up I could tell she had so much fun, as she was WORN OUT when we got her home. We will definitely be back!! read more

We are so happy we found bark avenue!! We just moved to ATL and were so nervous about leaving our 2 dogs, but Bark Avenue was amazing!!! They sent us several pictures (without us asking), give dogs play time with others who have similar temperaments, and offer grooming! One of our dogs eats everything he shouldn't, and ended up eating his brother's flea and tick collar. Nikki called us immediately to let us know what happened, and gave us frequent updates on how he was doing. I recently adopted a senior dog from my local shelter. He has moderate separation anxiety which I've worked on and mostly allayed at home. My job rather unexpectedly asked me to travel to Atlanta for two weeks. I didn't want to board this old mutt for that long, and I didn't want to ask someone else to watch him... so I figured I'd take him with me. Without knowing how he would handle a hotel room by himself (thanks to the separation anxiety), I made tentative plans with Bark Avenue to day-board him for the duration of my trip. Turned out that he did not at all like being in a hotel room by himself. Glad I planned ahead. Long story short: The folks who operate Bark Avenue Pet Resort are the best. They provide an excellent service for a great value. They care about the dogs in their care. My dog was happy to be dropped off, and he was always in a great mood when it was time to go back to the hotel. Anxiety dog did great here... that says a lot to me. This has been a stressful trip for my old guy, but Bark Avenue was there to make it easier. I recommend these folks without reservation. Should I have to bring my dog back to Atlanta (likely), I'll definitely be a repeat customer. read more

This facility is great. It's huge and very clean. The staff is very friendly, and my 10 year old mastiff gladly went with the them on his first visit. They were were very excited to see my old guy and that made me feel very good about leaving him. I did a bath as well because he gets pretty stinky. When we go to pick her up we have to convince her to come out because she doesn't want to leave her buddies. We won't take our pup anywhere else. As hard as it is to leave your dog Nikki and the rest of the staff make it that much easier. We had to go out of town while our dog had some hotspots and I was so worried to leave and not have a constant eye on her. When we got back her skin had gotten BETTER! They are magic, I guess.
