I boarded my diabetic dog for 5 night stays and honestly an amazing place to do so when my family and I had to fly out and couldn't bring our dog. Of course all dog parents always worry about our beloved pets. And for us it was the same especially since our dog needed to have their insulin shots at the scheduled times and luckily Barkway Resort took care of it! There was a variety of play areas for our beloved pets to play and hangout. And I really liked how they had a VIP section for a more quieter space so my dog could become his introverted ways after playing with the other dogs (both are extra costs) but I'm glad we did it. Unfortunately the cameras in the VIP were disabled for the 5 night stays we had our dog there. They mentioned they had someone who is trying to fix it but it was never turned on during our stay there in April. Because of this, we requested photos of each day of our dog just to know he was taken care of since the cameras were down and the staff provided that! read more

We have used this place for a year and a half and loved it at first. However, the last few times it seems to have gone down hill. Communication has gotten terrible. We always book a room with a camera for boarding our dog. This last stay, when trying to log into the camera it did not work. When we called to get help with logging in, they said their systems were hacked and some cameras were not working, including the one we were in. We had not been told this up front, and when asked to move her to another room they said they couldn't. So we ask if the price will be reduced, they said no, we will still be paying full price for their services that are not working. We probably would have have let it go if they hadn't been so rude about it. They were very unprofessional about the whole situation to a loyal customer. Two stays ago, our dog had bloody diarrhea that we saw on the camera around her room on the day we were picking her up. When we picked her up, they said they didn't know anything about it. She had it for a few days at home after being picked up. Our vet assumed it was stress related. Going to say the stool issue was probably not Barkway's fault, but I would expect some communication as that is clearly not normal. Left room for concern about what they would do if something serious was wrong. They had to have seen it when cleaning the room. We tried to give them one more chance after this, bad again. When I asked to speak with the groomer she continued to say that it was a trim and she misunderstood what I was wanting. The groomer stated she took atleast 1.5 inches from his hair and that was a trim. She should know you cannot shave border collies because the hair will not grow back the same. Very frustrating situation as I thought I found a good place for my dog to stay anytime our family was away but I have not. This was a last minute reservation and I called in advance to make sure I had all the correct information. I was told my dog needed a k9 influenza vaccine (not a core vaccine) in order to board here and also had to do a deposit which I did. As my dog was staying for 8 days while we visited family for the holidays. We ran around to get our dog this vaccine and took her in and everything was fine until we picked her up. The website states as I have screenshots 33 dollars a day for standard board and but yet we were charged 35 doesn't seem like a big deal but when your paying over 250$ and expect a certain rate it does. Then when my husband called to confirm pick up they said they could bath her before he comes and he said that was fine. No price was stated to him or anything and a shock of 40+ dollars added to our bill for a bath offered to us with no pricing. We're surely would have refused if so. We ended up paying 251.14 on top of a 70$ deposit totaling 321.14 for an 8 day basic dog boarding and bath ! Ridiculous and a rip of based on the fact their website says different. Beware of this place if you don't want to get up sold and prices changed on you. read more

If you ever find yourself pulling up to this place with your dog, Do yourself a favor and pull TF off. This place is nothing but a shit show, and it seems like not a single soul in that place is professional. We boarded our baby girl there for three days, while we went gambling in Vegas. Unfortunately for them, I was making money all night and also checking the camera to make sure my dog was OK every 30 minutes to an hour. The light in her room was left on the entire night and wasn't even turned off till the next day around 8 o'clock. My dog was unable to sleep and was anxious the entire night and howling. And when notifying them, We were told that the employee responsible was handled. Because that definitely helps our case right? So I replied with "that shit doesn't fly around here and there's no way in hell I'm gonna be paying full price for that day". Which should've already been offered ahead, yet she only offers 10% off for that 1 day( laugh in the fucking face) then again I was only talking to the assistant manager, because I was told the manager is on vacation which seems to be an excuse they like to your often. And the lady asked me not to cuss over the phone, like lady your doing absolutely nothing to make up for the huge fuck up, why would I care if the worker responsible gets in trouble? Why would I give a shit about cussing at youHonestly surprised this place is even able to stay open. It's priced cheaper than other boarders nearby, but I can assure you that your money will be extremely more valuable anywhere else. I wanted to love this place. The staff is super friendly, returned my calls, and were very thorough when I dropped off our dog. Lots of intake questions, etc. My dog was wagging his tail when we got there and they were sweet to him when I handed him off. When I picked him up, however, he was shedding like crazy, and bolted out of the car when we got home, running straight to his water bowl. On the day we picked him up, he drank FOUR bowls of water. He was thinner and completely dehydrated. I never got to go inside bc of COVID, but looking through the doors, it seems clean and tidy. No idea what the kennel situation is like though. It just definitely seems they did not give him enough water. Sad to say we won't be boarding here next time. read more

I haven't had to board my dog in a while. I was nervous about leaving her because whenever I'd briefly left her with friends that helped keep her an occasional night, she had anxiety. She'd wait for me by the door or lick her front right paw until raw. And then when i returned to pick her up, she whined and squealed. I thought she had such awful separation anxiety. Now that she stays at Barkway for the occasional overnight trip, she is so happy, she cannot wait to get in their door. When I pick her up, she's not super excited to see me, like she missed me. She takes her time coming to me, and wants to circle around the lobby a little bit more. She really enjoys her time here. And when I get her home, she is wiped out, and sleeps like a rock. She seems content each time I pick her up. This place compares to another nearby pet resort, but since pool time is included, the tab isn't as long, or expensive as the other place. The staff is very friendly. And I enjoy reading the notes for each day, having an idea how she ate, behaved and played with the others. The only reason I knocked off a star, is because the 1 pm pick up deadline for boarding is too rigid. There really should be a way to pay a little extra and place her in afternoon day care until at least 4. I can't believe that they don't allow me to pay for a day of day care, so I can pick her up after work, after boarding her for 1 to 3 days. The first time I was told I could get her groomed in the afternoon, and save that half day care fee. But when I picked her up, they charged me $33 for the night, because I wasn't there by 1. Again, trying to make reservations, I am being told that my day care is discounted with boarding, and I just have to pick her up by 1pm or pay another night of $33. So... I am still searching the area for day care/boarding services. I hope I can find something she loves as much as this place. read more

We used Barkway in Tomball for a New Year's trip that our fur babes needed to be boarded (Thursday to Sunday). They haven't been boarded since 2015 but we didn't have much other option (after trying Rover and our sweet staffie being discriminated against simply due to her breed :(.) Barkway had openings, so we went with them. We will not be using this facility again as a result of the things listed below. Front office staff could use some serious customer service and communication training. Also, the drop off process and inventory process could be more organized and inclusive of the customer (especially a first time customer and one whose pups haven't been boarded in quite some time) so that something like this doesn't happen again. Overall they seemed to be cared for in general (food, potty breaks, meds and etc) but professionalism, communication, and drop off/pick up processes are lacking big time when you are dealing with someone's family members and paying for a service. And this is confirmed through other reviews, so I am not the only one. Firstly, they quoted me a certain price but then we were charged more than quoted (it ended up making sense in the end, but the staff was rather rude about my questions around this; which were reasonable such as an invoice breaking down the cost). The front office staff during drop off AND pick up (different women) were cold and rude about answering questions and made almost no eye contact. Secondly, my dogs were left with all their essentials, to include food, treats, meds, chewing bones, and their memory foam bed for my senior dog's arthritis and my staffie's knee issues. When they sent a photo update during the trip (that I had to try really hard to get, as no one answered the phones for a whole day and a half. It was the holiday weekend but there should be a way to contact them when your dogs are boarded despite the holiday) their bed was not in their kennel. I asked why and received no response via Facebook messenger. When I arrived to pick them up, they came out in opposite leashes/collars (wouldn't be such a large deal if one has a support animal harness, and this was on the wrong dog). Everything but their bed was given back. When I inquired about this, they said we did not drop off a bed and it wasn't on their inventory. If I hadn't insisted that they were wrong and to find their bed, I don't think they would've done anything about this. After some back and forth they were able to locate the bed, in another dog's kennel. They explained that when I dropped off, it was next to another dog's belongings and they thought it belonged to them. My Staffie and Lab both had a limp when we got home for the first day or so and my staffie has red/pink bald spots on her joints; from sleeping on cold hard concrete for several days :(. They seemed to have no empathy for this situation at all and made a half assed apology only after I pointed out the lack of empathy or responsibility. Thirdly, my staffie had two medications administered during this time. There is not a medication log provided to the customer which is something I would recommend, so that there is confirmation of medication being given properly. This would benefit both the facility and the customer. She also was super depressed after coming home and drank a whole two bowls of water the second we got home, she clearly was not offered enough water during her stay. read more

We are(were) new to the area and in search of a good grooming and boarding location. At first visit there was a bit of miscommunication (partly my fault) on the services desired. I addressed my disappointment with the manager who went above and beyond to make corrections and ensure that the customer (us) was satisfied. The groomer quickly fell into suit making sure that we were pleased with her services. The customer service here has really impressed me and we will be a returning customer for sure. Please stay as far away from this place as you can! I should have listened to the other reviews, but because it was so close to my home I decided to give them a chance. Huge mistake! It has now been 9 weeks since my dogs incident, 9 weeks I was given the run around. I took 10 month old puppy, who has been getting groomed since he was 12 weeks old, in for grooming. I have picture proof of what he looked like when I dropped him off perfectly fine and healthy 10 month old puppy. When I picked him up I noticed his eye was very watery, by that night he was unable to open his eye, I took pictures and I took him to the ER and I was told he had a corneal ulcer likely caused by something splashing in his eye at the time of his grooming. He was given medication and I notified the assistant manager who said she would notify the manager. I took the puppy to the follow up the following Wednesday at which time I was told the wound was still severe and he needed to be taken to a specialist. I once again notified Barkaway, keep in mind they never once contacted me for follow up. That Friday, one week later, I was able to be seen by the specialist at which time he was rushed back for emergency surgery. I once again notified Barkaway and sent all the vet bills. We ended up over $3k in vet bills and so began the runaround from barkaway. From the first week through the 4th week, I was told by the assistant manager that I needed to speak with the manager who was never available according to her. It was me calling every other day because they did not return my phone calls. When I finally spoke with the manager, he said I needed to speak with the assistant manager as she was the one on the case and she was out sick, I thought she was waiting for him? Finally, 5 weeks later, they asked for the vet information, which they already had as they had all the receipts from where he received his care, but in order to avoid an argument, I gave her the information. I let the vet know in advance that they would be calling and that it was okay to release my pet information. I called back a week later and was told that the vet had not answered. When I called the vet, they let me know that they had still not called. I called back and told her this to which she said she would call. She then said she was waiting on the owners response. It is now 9 weeks later, and the owner has just now decided to respond after a minimum of two calls a week from me. I was specifically told by the manager that the owners had not responded and that he figured it was because he already knew how he felt about the situation and that there was no way for them to know that the injury happened there and that there was nothing they could do to prevent it. How do you not know that it happened there when my puppy went in there perfectly healthy and I have picture proof of the difference from when I dropped him off and picked him up. I even told them I was willing to compromise in meet half way in order to recoup some of the funds. Now I just want to warn others, I did not listen to other reviews and now my puppy has vision loss for the rest of his life. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. We recently moved to cypress and needed a new location for boarding and doggie day camp. I took my dog in for day camp. He is a 2 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. He has grown up around other animals, and kids and has never been aggressive. I wasn't even finished with the paperwork when they brought him back to me soaking wet from being sprayed due to him backing in a corner and showing nervous signs. He has gone to other day camps and dog parks and has never had a problem. I was in shock! They just resorted to spraying and soaking a dog who was in a new place vs. trying to help him become more comfortable. The staff at Barkway seemed inexperienced and nervous with dogs. I feel like they bullied my baby for being a bigger dog. I also didn't like that there was no way to see your dog playing. They don't have cameras or a way to see in the playroom. We took him to the Oaks dog ranch and they actually helped him get comfortable and he had a blast. The staff at the oaks clearly understands animal behavior better than this place and the staff seemed to actually love my dog. I'm glad it didn't work out in the end. I am much happier with the Oaks Dog Ranch and will continue to use them. read more

I took my dog there but they didn't accept him because he didn't have his shots and they weren't even nice about it and they didn't even volunteer to give him any too. Also when I was at the movie theater next to it I saw that they blocked the spot to go over there off with rocks it's not very nice and just flat out crazy aren't you supposed to welcome people there to get customers. I boarded my dogs for one night at Barkway. Which is $61 I was told. The day I come to pick up at 1:20, the cost for that one night was first $75 then changed to $122. Supposedly you are supposed to pick up your pups at 1:00 or your charged for an extra day. But the lady at the front "Emely" never told us that when she checked us in. When we mention she had never told me or my boyfriend that, she began to get loud and mention that she did not care about what we were talking about that's the price we needed to pay. Raising her hands and yelling at my boyfriend. We continued to tell her that she or nobody else ever told us that pick up was at 1. Nor that the price would change 2 times. She then said "Well it's on the back of the computer where you can see." And that's fine but when the sign behind the computer is extremely small it's easy to miss and that should have been addressed verbally. I'm sure they have had this issue before. Micah who was very pleasant came to the front. As my boyfriend explained the situation, Micah told Emely to just charge us for one night as he knew nobody told us pickup was at one. If so, we would have been there 20 minutes earlier. Emely screamed threatened to call the police, said she didn't care about our situation and also acted very rude as she said "Do you even have $122?" Rolled her eyes and acted very out of character. I took my little Maltese for grooming. The receptionist was pleasant and made sure that what I wanted done as far as his groom would be done. I received a call from the groomer herself to let me know that he jumped while she was using the clippers (he is terrified of the sound) and got a little nick. I was assisting my mother in finding a location to board her dog for a weekend while she goes to a family reunion. I called Barkway, the first young lady, Katie, that I spoke with was extremely helpful. She explained the process and the requirements for the dogs vaccination. Our pet did not have her K-9 flu shot, which is a requirement, our Vet does no give this shot. Katie explained that a letter from the Vet accompanying the shot record would suffice. I called back to clarify why the Vet does not give this vaccination to his patients, Katie was busy so a male employee attempted to assist. He was NOT helpful, he stated that a note from the Vet would not be sufficient. He was very rude and condescending. He stated, in a very rude manner, that the Owner boards her dogs there and even she is REQUIRED for them to have the K-9 flu shots. He said the owner is the only one that could approve a Vets' of explanation letter to board our dog. He stated that he would talk to her, he said he already knew that she would not approve this request, but he would ask and call me back. Never received a call back. Just to clarify our pet has all her other vaccinations, just not the K-9 flu, which our Vet said is not necessary since there has been no recorded outbreak in this area in years. If this rude employee is an example of the treatment the pets receive, I have to assume so since he is representing the business, then I am apprehensive about boarding our pet here. We will be taking our pet to another facility, which does not require the K-9 flu. read more

We had an issue regarding the boarding of our dog. I requested a call from the owner, Jean. The manager, Jesse smiled and said I will send her a message but she will not return your call. I held out hopes and went a step further and sent her a return-receipt letter. I never received a call back, an email or a letter.
