This bakery is really good! I think they're Chinese?, not Korean, although there may be a lot of Korean influences. The price point is a little higher than other Chinese bakeries in the area, but the portion size is bigger and the quality and freshness is also really good. I feel like the ingredients are higher quality, and the flavors of breads and pastries are unique. Recommendations: - Pumpkin-filled Bao, with a surprise little bottle of mochi inside. The bread feels a little healthier (has more structure), and not like the high-gluten flour versions at other bakeries. - Black Sesame Mochi Bread: I think this is gluten-free, me with rice and tapioca flour. Featured on a local foodies, social media, I can see why she recommended it. - Salted egg Taro Bao: didn't know what to expect, but also very good and comforting. The mashed taro inside tastes homemade & the bit of salted egg made for a nice contrast. - there's the viral pressed croissants, croissant rolls, pineapple & red bean buns, black rice filled buns; multi-grain rolls. So many options to try. - I did buy the croissant shell egg tarts. They were good, but I originally wanted N-isnow egg tarts (sold out) & these weren't as good as them. I think the filling is not that soft (Macaunese-style). - at the counter there's big slices of cake. Saw Durian mille fuelle cake. Seasonal pumpkin latte. Nice branding and well-designed clear bags. The shop is minimal and modern with a few tables and counter seats. Gets pretty busy because of its location on the corner. One complaint is that the staff at the counter seemed very young/immature. Barley Time has the best baked goods and cold sandwiches! Everytime I go, I always get their mini crossiants and chicken sandwiches (2 kinds, chicken slices and chicken fillet). My kids love the mini crossiants toasted for a few minutes. Then the mini crossiants have a yummy crisp on the outside with a soft and warm coziness on the inside. Sometimes, I can't help myself, I love them as a quick breakfast or snack with my tea. lol There usually aren't any leftover! It's just that Yummylicious! I've also tried a variety of their other baked goods and drinks and they're all delicious too. The best thing is that if you buy one of their gift cards and lose it, they can use your phone number to look it up and verify your name so you can still use the balance on it. A small bakery on the corner of Prince Street that's adjacent to the Tangram Mall and across the street from Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao. Pretty close to the 7 train. Looks neat and clean when I first go inside. They seem to have a smaller selection of bread and pastries compared to other bakeries in the area. Concept of their bread: it's supposed to be healthier which I do agree because it does taste like not as sweet. Some variety of cake and desserts like the jiggly bear pudding in the glass display cases along with hot/iced drinks (e.g. coffee or fruit teas) to be ordered and made from the LED menu screens. Not much of a line when you go up to pay. Takes both cash and card. Service from staff is alright, but not rude or impatient. They speak mainly Chinese and understand some English. This bakery is situated on one of the busiest corners in Flushing on Prince Street where my memories of 66 Taiwanese Restaurant use to reside. It had been several other establishments in between, but now providing baked goods, pastries and beverages for the young crowds living or visiting the area. Due to its prime location, I assume the rent is extremely high. Unfortunately, that is reflected in their pricing, which makes their products on the high end for bakeries in Flushing. The quality is not bad. Everything I had so far was decent. With that said, when I pay their level of prices, I want top notch quality. Comparatively speaking, I prefer 85 Degrees just down the block at similar prices, or Apollo one block in the other direction for cheaper options. Pro Tip: Right before they close nightly at 10:00pm, they have a mystery bag of 5 random items for $6. I have purchased this a couple of times and felt that the deal is well worth it. Plenty of baked goods, single slice cakes and drinks! I got the strawberry bread that was shaped as a teddy bear, it was good! Wish we came earlier as they ran out of full sized croissants. Dropping a star because the cashier was a bit aggressive. I barely saw the second cashier as he was hiding behind the signs and the way he tried to grab my attention was kind of rude. Motivated by seeing this new-ish storefront, I curiously entered the store on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm and was pleasantly surprised at the breadth of bread, pastry and cake offerings and their bright, clean setup. Being a Chinese bakery their flavors for pastries, breads and fillings leaned Asian, like matcha, red bean, sesame, chestnut, rose, taro and variations of these with cheese. Of course there were also items with coffee, cream, bacon, and more Western profiles. I picked up a "pull-apart bread" $4.25 (that was the label on the tray), and a chopped pecan pineapple-style bun (it had a layer of tender craquelin - as the French call it - on top, no actual pineapple). I was very impressed by the light lamination on the pull apart bread--the top was brushed with a very light coating of sugar syrup, a perfect amount to add a tinge of sweetness while still allowing you to taste the savory butteriness of the bread itself. The pecan pastry $3.75 was lovely too, again a balanced light amount of sweetness, a nicely developed rise of the dough inside, and just buttery enough. Good value for the quality. The bakery is small with only a handful of seats right inside the entrance to the left. Checkout counter is up a couple stairs to the right, above which the menu for drinks and other items are displayed. Also located at the counter in the display case are cakes and some chilled dessert selections. They carried items like mousse and tiramisu, roll cakes, cheesecake and larger cakes (complete or by the slice). The presentation is competitive with other newer Asian bakeries in the area. Teddy bear bread for $2.95! Teddy bears are my best friend. After reading the reviews I was lured to attain this bear bread. I scanned the bakery glass encasement and there were many baos and sandwiches. Barley Time baked goods make a good breakfast or before bedtime snack. I did not see any traditional Chinese Cha siu bao 叉燒包, caa1 siu1 baau1 as it is my default bao. However, this visit was specifically not caa1 siu1 baau1. I also hoped for green tea filling buns. My eyes was affixed to the coveted bear bread and it was very enticing. It was very adorably cute that I could not bear to eat it. The bear bread taste good with a strawberry cream filling. The bear bread was intact when bitten. No comment for their boba tea as I did not purchase any. I would surely return for another bear bread and fruit tea with my default topping Chinese herbal grass jelly 涼粉 (loeng4 fan2, liang2 fen3). Customer service is average. I had to request several times for a measly sales receipt which, at first, went to oblivion. Take caution when approaching the cashier as there are steps. The interior is very bright. During my last visit for pastries, Barley Time was pretty disappointing. So, naturally, I was hesitant to give it another go. But there I was, in Flushing early in the morning with slim pickings (everything else was closed, of course). With limited options, I thought, why not dive into their drinks menu? I took a chance on their Large Cheese Foam Peach Oolong Tea and snagged a passionfruit drink (or dessert) from their open fridge (it looked lonely and in need of a home). To my delight, the Oolong Tea was surprisingly good - not too sweet, with a cheese foam layer that was generous enough to make a dairy farmer proud. The drink was delicious and far cheaper than the exorbitant offerings at Song Tea ($8 for a large). My Barley Time beverage was a mere $5.75 a bargain in comparison. The only negative was their Apple Pay policy - you need to spend a minimum of $10 to use it (I suppose they think my money isn't good enough unless I part with more of it). But, hey, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. In the future, I'll likely return to Barley Time for drinks since I did enjoy this one. The past two times I've been by, this café bakery has been quite busy which I think is nice. This means the pastries aren't sitting long on the shelf and are fresher. Barley Time is a Chinese bakery that opened last week. This is their second location and the first in Queens. The inside feels spacious with lots of light coming in from the windows. The layout though is kind of odd. The registers and counter for ordering drinks is located up some small steps. So very odd and not very accessible to those in wheelchairs or with strollers. There's a lot of variety of pastries (both sweet and savory) and bread sold here. Some are familiar and some are new to me. Every single pastry that I saw in the counters were individually wrapped and had signage with prices listed in both English and Chinese. I really appreciated this and found it very helpful. We ordered a couple of taro breads, a strawberry bread shaped like a bear and tiny cookies with sunflower seeds. Like with most Asian bakeries, the pastries weren't too sweet. And everything tasted freshly made. They had some very cute looking cakes and a huge menu of drinks. I'll have to try them next time. read more

I am a major fan of this establishment: new and progressive Chinese bakery in downtown Flushing. They have solid pastries; a mix of new and traditional takes. I haven't tried all or most of the pastries so I cannot say if all are delicious but the ones I have tried were usually great.
