You can tell by the sheer volume of baked goods and cakes available in their window displays that they sell a lot daily. This location is on the main drag of the little downtown section of Forest Hills, the baked goods in the front window display connect to a tall and long glass counter along the left side of the store that extends almost to the back. At the back middle and along the right side of the wall there's seating for about two dozen people at small cafe tables. They carry an assortment of traditional cakes (full and sliced), pies, cookies, pastries, cheesecakes, cupcakes, ice cream and coffee/tea drinks. A wide variety of flavors in each, so you're bound to find something sweet to satisfy most here. They are a classic bakery so from what I can tell, they don't carry items that are gluten, dairy or nut free. I've purchased their apple pie, fruit tart, berry napoleon, red velvet and chocolate fudge cakes from this or other locations in the past and they're all solid choices for desserts to share with a larger group, though I find a lot of their cake options to be on the richer side. My most recent encounter with their cakes came in the form of a slice of their seven layer cake $9.95 which is thin layers of yellow cake alternating with chocolate cream mmm pretty tasty, and their caramel cake $9.95 which had a layer of chocolate cake in the middle, sandwiched by caramel cream and white cake on either side. The latter had a pronounced caramel flavor that was enjoyable though a bit too much cream for me. My preference would be for their chocolate cakes over other cake flavors here. I'm expected to tip my waitstaff and also pay an extra dollar per item just because I chose to dine in. For example, the cupcake is usually $4.75 to go, but they charged me an extra $1 for dining in. Their cake slices are usually $9.50 to go, but I was charged $10.50. I also tipped 20%, so the added charge felt frustrating, especially since there was no clear notice. When I asked the waitstaff about the $1 charge, she said it was entered that way because I dined in. When I later called about it, the manager simply said, "Next time, just order to go if you don't want to be charged extra." That response was disappointing, especially since there was no visible sign explaining this policy, and their dine-in menu does not show separate pricing. I really think management should fix this to avoid misleading customers. Transparency matters. These little sweet treats are unbelievably addictive. I've brought them to gatherings and shared them with friends and family, and without fail they disappear almost instantly. I honestly can't think of another baked item I've purchased that has been so universally loved. Since then, I've started exploring more of their pastries and baked goods, and each visit has been a pleasant surprise. One item seems better than the next. No, the prices are not cheap--but the quality absolutely justifies it. In this case, you really do get what you pay for.
