Looked online for best breakfast in Houston. Not disappointed!! And we arrived around lunchtime. Gotta love a place that gives you a choice of breakfast or lunch at noon. I'm not crazy about breakfast potatoes but our waitress told us there's no limit to substitutions at Barnabys. :) Green eggs were amazing! Banana Walnut pancakes had nice bite size pieces of apple in them cooked to perfection. Blueberry pancakes were made with fresh fruit too. The sausage was fantastic and I'm a picky cajun when it comes to my sausage. Fruit bowls were so fresh and delicious. This place is right on Market Square and only a couple of blocks from the Metro Transit train so it"s easy access from several parts of the city. Having to spend some time in Houstons medical center for health issues? Been there, done that. Take a little break. My new favorite place in Houston! I was in Houston visiting family but also traveling solo. Since I am a "cafe" lover I decided to try out Barnaby's Cafe. This was not my original destination however my first choice was crowded and the menu was mediocre. I am glad I chose Barnaby's. The service was great, very easy. Sit wherever you want. The staff was nice and helpful in helping me make good food choices. I ordered the Green eggs and the RED VELVET PANCAKES. It was delicious. A great meal after yoga in Discovery Green park. I'm writing this whilst staring at the box of soggy sweet potato fries and two-tone half-burger sitting on my desk at work... Yesterday I went to Barnaby's Market Square and had the Lebanese Chicken Fatoush with spinach instead of whatever it comes with. It was amazing and the food arrived in a timely manner even though the restaurant was quite busy. Today, I had a pretty bad experience. My girlfriend drove from work to come eat with me downtown at my suggestion. We live a block away from this location and meeting her at my front door was in the exact route I would take to get there from work if I were going with or without her. We arrived as they just got onto a wait (maybe 3-5 minutes, not bad) because it was busy. We became first on the list. We waited by a group of tables and chairs that were arranged for a party of maybe 12-14 people who apparently called ahead, because people were piling in behind us at the entry. When I noticed how many lone diners were sitting at 4-person tables, I knew we were lucky that we were first on the list. Everything is fine at this point, we were sat within 5 minutes as a single person got up from their 4-person table and we both sat down. **NOTE** The "wait list" that was used (because they don't have a proper seating staff or any kind of regular looking wait list...) consisted of a table menu that the manager folded in half when he realized he now had a wait. Here's where the wheels start to fall off.... We sat down and were approached in about a minute as I noticed a group of four women sat at the table I was facing. When asked, "What can I get you guys?" by our waitress, I suggested the GF try what I had yesterday, a strawberry lemonade (delicious), and I opted to try a strawberry Arnold Palmer (not as delicious, won't order that again). Being that it was her first time to Barnaby's, she probably could've benefit from some suggestions from the waitress. That never happened. "Would you like to order food now?" followed quickly after our drinks arrived a few minutes later and I politely asked for any suggestions she might have. The waitress responded, "well, what do you feel like today?" I don't know what my GF felt like, because I'm not her, but I felt like some suggestions, since I just asked for suggestions. She mentioned the chicken salad sandwich was good and then "gave us some time" while she tended to a few other tables she might've been working at. I had already decided what I was going to get (guacamole cheeseburger & sweet potato fries) and the other half chose to go with the suggestion when the waitress returned. Then we waited... ...and waited... ...8-10 minutes in, I noticed the group of four women I was facing received their meals... ...then I noticed the entire food pickup area where service people get their orders from the kitchen was lined with 6 huge catering bags and there were nothing but paper cartons for to-go being stuffed into those bags... ...15-20 minutes in, I noticed the girls across from me got their checks and were about to leave... ...25 minutes in, I started looking back to see if our orders were coming out. Sadly, even though food was coming out on actual plates, none of it was ours. I flagged down the waitress as she collected the checks from the girls' table to ask what the hold up might be and she apologized and said that a large group had sat down (remember that 12-14 person group from earlier?) and got their order in before ours... ...26 minutes in, the non menu-folding manager (manager 2) came by and asked what he could do for us as he refilled our drinks and explained that the large table had an order in and the kitchen was backed up. I told him that we needed to probably get going because of work and he offered to box things up for us to-go instead of bringing it out on plates... ...35-40 minutes in, first the waitress came back by and said that since our ticket time had exceeded 30 minutes, that they were going to comp our food and box it up for us to-go. Then manager 2 came back and recited the same statement with the comp'd check. The waitress came back again and told us that it was comp'd, grabbed our receipt out of the receipt presenter, and said that they were packing our food up in the back right now. They were both apologetic, but the manager kept placing the blame on the patrons visiting his restaurant and not himself for mismanaging his staff or even the staff itself... ...45 minutes in, I left the restaurant and walked my lady back to our door on my way back to work both carrying massive white paper bags with one paper carton sized meal each. I work maybe 5 minutes away from Market Square Park. I got to my office maybe 7-10 minutes after leaving Barnaby's door and upon opening my container I found a pile of extra soggy sweet potato fries and burger. Cut my burger in half to find one side well done and the other side rare. I ordered it medium. Sadness ensued. read more

I don't really see anything great about this place considering the prices for a casual restaurant. In terms of food, I do like their burgers and the portions are huge for pretty much everything on the menu. In that sense, the prices can be justified a little bit. Lack of seasoning has been issue a few times (hanger steak) and on a recent visit they said that they ran out of cheese for my burger. Asked for Avocado on the side instead and the server never came back with it. One of the other positives is that the menu has some healthy offerings available for those who are in the eating healthy mode. read more

How have I not written a review here until just now?! I love Barnaby's! It's close to where I work, so I get to visit often :-) I just recently discovered their online menu that has pictures and full details on every dish and I'm excited to try some new things that look really great. I also just found out that this location is now open for breakfast and since downtown does not have very many breakfast options, I'm stoked! I love the open and bright environment. It's usually pretty busy, so I like to go a little before noon or a litte after 1. The staff is always friendly and attentive, although sometimes a little slow simply due to the busy clientele. The food is consistently good and it always looks the same. They have each meal down to an art and that makes me happy. I never question whether they served me more or less than the time before. The food is delish! Try anything and you'll like it. Oh, and try the chocolate chip cookie. You won't be sorry! read more

This place is delicious! There are several locations throughout Houston so grab some friends and head there for lunch one day. The staff is really friendly and put a smile on my face immediately. I had the barbecue chicken with side of fries and some apples. Their portions are huge. My fries were basically falling over the plate (I LOVE fries so I didn't mind one bit). The chicken was juicy and tender and the barbecue sauce was the perfect mix of sweet and tangy. To wash it all down, I had a very delicious strawberry lemonade. Thought I saw something somewhere say Barnaby's Cafe and decided it was not a new restaurant but a new way to describe the Barnaby's restaurants. But then, I was in downtown and saw it and instantly wanted to go at that moment! Instead I went a couple of weeks later. Somehow Barnaby's always seems to trap so much noise in their restaurants, it's very loud! I still like the atmosphere. It's the corporate crowd. Our food comes out and it's adorable as usual. I thought my egg salad sandwich tasted more wet and more mayoee. They also had their own homemade chips at this location, which I have not seen that before, but I think maybe it's because I usually get fries. I only ate half of my sandwich, which is normal, but I just couldn't get myself to eat the other half as a snack later and now...I think I'm officially over the egg salad sandwich. This was my first time to Barnaby's and I loved it!!! I just recently started working downtown and wanted to treat myself to a delicous lunch and a co-worker recommended Barnaby's. It was very busy during lunch but everyone was friendly and the food is so good. Service was great and fast! The portions are more than enough and the desserts looked heavenly. I ddn't get to get dessert the day I went but I will be back to try that amazing looking chocolate cake and the apple pie! Definitely will be my "treat myself for lunch"place from now on! read more

We had an espresso and a cappuccino and both were presented beautifully and tasted delicious! Nice and strong too. Cappuccino came with some biscotti which was a nice surprise! I had the turkey breast sandwich with the cranberry mayonnaise, the flavor of the mayo was very interesting, it felt nice and tart. The size of the sandwich was good, two people could eat off that easily. The turkey breast was nice and tender and the texture of the sandwich overall was nice. The service was OK, nothing remarkable. The decorations and the ambiance was really nice. It feels casual but still nice enough for a coffee lunch date. The outdoor was pet friendly. As a healthy eater & salad guy I'm really disappointed in the menu. They offer quite a few salads but the menu tells you nothing of what's in them, just a fancy name. To me a salad has nutritious greens & not iceberg lettuce. If the menu gave you the list of ingredients then I wouldn't have to guess from the fancy names. Awesome place to get some grub!! Went here during the Night at Market Street and tries their $2 specials on house wines! The house pinot grio and chardonnay were delicious. Prior to my play I decided to drop by this restaurant for a quick breakfast, the breakfast platter. A meal of delight I modified my own by adding bacon and green eggs, which like Sam I am happy with such choice. The meal was a delight as well as the environment, this was great as a whole my server Joaquin was amazing on more on point then a ballet dancer balancing on a ball point pen tip. He was speedy and precise with everything, thus it receives a five star review for the breakfasts platter with green eggs( artichokes and chicken apple sausage) this was so good.
