Honestly, the wait was worth the 30+ minutes it took to order and receive my food. I came back after trying Cheba Hut at work for lunch, and I enjoyed my sub so much that I had to come back. Now, I thought I could just stop by and grab my order in about five minutes... that was not the case. It took well over 30 minutes. However, I do want to recognize the customer service, especially the gentleman in the red shirt who was running the cash wrap. He was very attentive and made sure orders were moving and getting out to customers. When I followed up on my order (about 20+ minutes in), he let me know there were about 9-10 subs ahead of mine due to a lot of online orders. Once I got my food, I thanked him and let him know next time I'll definitely be ordering online. If you're planning to grab lunch and not dine in, I highly recommend ordering ahead to save time. Now, the food... the sub was 10/10 amazing. I got the Jamaican Red Buffalo Chicken. Highly recommend. The only thing I want to point out is there was a guy working with bell peppers who came to the front line and started handling food for customers. He had on gloves and headphones, but when a customer asked him a question, he used his gloved hand to move his headphones, then went right back to handling food without changing gloves. Sooooo we had to wait to race at velocity and decided to walk the strip and have a drink. I wasn't a fan of the fruit flies that abruptly greeted us at the bar. The bartender was cool and attentive, but I was just not a fan of the atmosphere. It's divey but dusty and I don't do dust. I got the Thai Stick and that baby was loaded. I'm talking grilled chicken breast coated by that teriyaki sauce. Green bell pepper and a pickle giving me a little crunch. The pineapple and pepperjack tug of warring over here with sweet and salty. With a little blanket of lettuce and tomato. Dusted over with that shake & house dressing. Man I'm so disappointed. For starters the person who took my order seemed like they didn't not want to be there and I felt like I was an inconvenience. Then the food comes and it feels like there's not as much toppings as there used to be. Granted I haven't been here in like 2ish years so I don't know if something's changed or what but I got my usual and you can see with my past pictures and compare. Located in Sawyer Yard, Cheba Hut has a huge, shared parking lot, which is great considering parking is always a challenge around here. I love the vibe of this place, and you don't have to be into chronic to come here, and I am certainly not (but if you are, that's probably a bonus for you). You order at the counter, and the workers are always helpful and friendly. While I have had several sandwiches, and almost always get the 4" nugg size, my favorite is the Kali Mist. I have also had the Kind and the Jamaican Red. I am sure there isn't a bad sandwich here. I am looking forward to trying the AK-47, which is the French dip, too. Perfect lunch sandwich and paired perfectly with the jalapeno chips. They pack up the veggies and meats so you really get your moneys worth here. The sizes are 4'', 8'', or 12'' which is a little frustrating because in my opinion 4'' is too small and 8'' is too big LOL but I do like that they cut them in half so you can easily save half for later when it is too much. The place was packed during lunch time with only one available table open when we got there (it is also a small space already) but still was clean and staff was super friendly. The theme of this place is fun and they definitely keep up with it with their food names and snacks! There's food items by the name of "munchies" or magic mushroom/power plant and they even have kool-aid and funny stickers like the rapper Ice-Cube above the ice dispenser. Staff are always helpful and take the time to describe the menu. I took off stars because in the past, the white widow was my go to. But at some point, the chicken started to taste rubbery so I switched over to the Kali Mist which is super good. Well I wanted to give the White Widow another try to see if the chicken tasted different and unfortunately it still had that rubbery taste, so much that it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I was hoping rearranging my sandwich to only having pieces of chicken with sauce on it would make a difference and it didn't help. Because toasted subs should be so much more of a thing. --- --- --- I bookmarked Cheba Hut months ago, but have unfortunately experienced countless times where we intended to visit, but plans changed at the last minute. Recently, we finally made it happen. After one visit, I'm ready for two or three more. I would give anything for this to be in my neighborhood because I wanted to try so many things. Unfortunately, it's not only not in my neighborhood, it's an hour away. We ultimately settled on ordering the La Canna and the White Widow, which my wife and I shared. She preferred the La Canna and I think I actually liked the White Widow a little more. Both were very enjoyable, as was the Chiesel, which we ordered for our son, but we ended up eating more of it than him. Bonus points for them carrying Zapps Voodoo chips, serving Koolaid "on tap", and having cookies and various rice krispie treats to finish off the meal with. We went with a couple of cookies, because the guy taking our order said they were "the best cookies in the world". I wouldn't go that far, but they were pretty enjoyable once we got home and were able to warm one up in the microwave.
