There was a very large dog in the children's section during our visit. My toddler was frightened and did not feel safe enough to browse or enjoy the area. The children's section should be a place where young kids can feel comfortable. Unfortunately, this impacted our visit. We will take our money elsewhere! Shout out to Melinda, Zee, and store Manager Mrs Cutler for amazing customer service. Its been almost 2 decades since Ive stepped into a Barns & Noble store. During Med school and undergrad this would be my "go to" to study, buy First Aid and other Books. Back in the day, i used to love buying CDs and once everything became online, the store visits became less frequent and things were simply shipped. Today I visited looking for a specific book, Medical Medium series and Melinda was kind enough to help me search for and locate my book. I found myself immersed in all the different genres, and accessories, toys , music and my gosh, there is something for everyone. I even loved the tarot section. Melinda was kind enough to hook me up with a new rewards card since mine was 20 years old and their system had changed. I ended up signing up for rewards, paid $39.99 for a year and received a lot of perks including a very cool tote bag. I scored one in my favorite color, and was even told during this time its double points for each purchase. Customer service was 10/10. The store itself organized, clean, and love the starbucks coffee shop inside where you can study and just chill out. Plenty of seating and tables. Thank you for making today's experience soo delightful. I was able to utilize gift cards that had been saved for over 20 years and put to good use today with ease. Came in looking for a magazine because I'm vibing like it's 2005 ;) I didn't see it on the shelves but the girl at the customer service counter was so nice and was able to confirm that it was out of stock and pulled up the item number just by looking at a photo of the magazine! They don't have the ability to look up if other stores have magazines, just books, but having the item number was helpful. read more

I was here today with a few friends of mine, to which I had picked out 5 books for myself. Only one of my friends were also getting some books here, and she had brought up to me before getting in the line that she can buy my books on her Membership Card, then I pay her back. I immediately said that it was alright, because not only was it a lot more books than she was getting, but I had my parent's card, so I didn't want to worry about paying her back and such if I wasn't planning on paying in the first place. I get up to the register, and there was only one worker there, an older-looking ginger lady, who had asked if I had a Membership or knew anyone with a Membership. I briefly said to her "no, I'm fine without it" because in my mind I had just had this conversation. The cashier only says "well its free money" and at this point I'm nervously giggling because I had the situation figured out already and I really did not mind, to which I politely insist "I'm good for today" which was really true, I rarely order books in person, I was here because I was in the area. The cashier just says "sad... :/" so I am just nervously laughing again. And I pay then walk away, with no bag, because she didn't ask if I wanted a bag for my 5 books. My friend comes back from getting her wallet in the car, then is starting to pay at the front. Again, this ginger lady was alone up there, so it was the same person cashing her out. My friend, as I said before, used her Membership, to which the cashier said to them "well your friend was right here before you, I asked if he knew anyone with a membership and he rudely said no" and was mocking a rude tone. Then adding on "I knew he was lying when he said no." I understand you might have had a long day from work, and you are here trying to promote the Membership for people to use it. If that is what you are doing, then do your job and be professional just carry on, why are you shit talking me to my friends?? I had my situation figured out, I understood what I was doing. Everyone else in the store seemed so nice and polite except for that ginger cashier. Add-on: my friend explained to me better afterward that it was not to pay for the books, the Membership is just additional to the payment as a rewards system, I did not understand that in the moment and thought it was a card for the store. We have been coming to this Barnes and Noble for as long as I can remember... some things to note are that they not only have a great selection of books and a Starbucks inside but they also have Birthday Cards, little games and puzzles. Service is excellent and parking is plentiful. There are a bunch of restaurants within walking distance so something for everyone. read more

I really appreciate coming here and being served so well by the young black girl who works here. My ma and I came in a few weeks ago looking for one book, pride and prejudice. When we got to the register, the girl checking us out was so friendly and bubbly and so full of life, that we began talking about the books, which she suggested the count of monte cristo. Well we paid, but then went back to find that book she suggested. We found it and went back up to pay. When she saw the book, she realized it was the version for highschool/young readers--a lot of stuff is taken out, and said "hold on" and went to get the correct version for my ma. She was so amazing, she went above and beyond for us and I really valued that!! I wish I could remember her name. She was awesome. read more

Amazing study spot! I'm pretty particular about study locations and the music/noise level but this was perfect for me. The music is soft at a good level of background noise and everybody is generally quiet. I like sitting at the edge tables by the windows and you can find outlets. Free wifi of course and it's a strong connection. The baristas are also super kind and helpful with giving you suggestions. Easily could sit here for 4+ hours and I have always been really productive! read more

So let me start with, I love this Barnes and Noble but for the past month I've having not a great time ordering my coffee with the new unfriendly barista. Terren I think is her name. I don't know why would you have the most unfriendly worker at this station? No eye contact, just looks like she hates being there and it shows, after I say thank you no your welcome just nothing.. come on now Barnes and noble.. I would say the numerical rating is for this specific visit and in comparison to the last review I wrote, not as an overall rating, but it feels kind of like the last few visits have at least been "worse to this degree" compared to when I wrote the last review and thus warrants a level drop. In the past few times I have been here the cashiers have all been very slow and "just doing my job" type of attitude, and have treated me noticeably worse than other customers when I am visibly displaying that I have no understanding of how to interact with people such as by claiming that I cannot enter my rewards number on clearance items despite the fact that there has been no issue with me doing that at other branches. Either that or it could be them being critical of me wearing something socially divisive again, but I don't have any evidence of that. I can confirm that my behavior affects their attitude towards me, though. Even though they do this I am sure my transactions are processed properly though. Aside from that the building has awful reception so I can't send and receive responses from people that I have been shopping for very easily, and this results in me having to wait in the building for long periods of time while I wait for messages to send and receive, which also results in the employees interacting with me prior to me dictating my intent to purchase something. Because of this I feel that coming here is more of an obligation to check all available options than coming here for impulse shopping. If you want me to say something good about this branch, it's that out of all of the Barnes and Nobles in Orange County I have visited, this one has the most parking available. read more

Being a writer, I spend a lot of time at Barnes and Noble. Every time I walk in the door, I feel like I'm at home. It truly is my favorite place on earth :) This store has a really good selection of books and if they don't have something you are looking for, they'll immediately offer to order it for you which is nice. I'm not a big fan of Amazon/Kindle, so I get all my books from here. I'm old-school; I still enjoy the physical book. The coffeehouse is so cute too! Often times, I'll pick up a book, grab a frapp and have a seat to read. It's peaceful and quiet. Staff is super friendly and very helpful. read more

I don't think people read as often as they used to. I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty of this as well. When I do get the urge to read, Barnes and Noble is always available, which is really nice. Of course I can always buy the book online, but I enjoy walking through the myriad selection of books and getting lost in my own imagination and nostalgia. This place is always clean, lots of parking, and right in the middle of a shopping center, so it always feels nice to come here any chance I get. read more

Yay! B&N is back open! We stopped by here this morning to check out the inventory. They removed the tables and chairs from the bakery area, so you can't sit and read but you can walk around like usual and browse/buy. There were a couple jigsaw puzzles left here but not high piece ones. They also changed their layout around a little. We shopped for books Barnes & Noble at 26751 Aliso Creek Rd in Aliso Viejo. It was the most clean & well organized bookstore we have been to. In about 40 minutes we filled two baskets of books. Also paying for the books did not take as long as other bookstores. We will be back next month to fill two more baskets of books. There is plenty of parking and a short walk to the bookstore. There is also plenty of places to have lunch at before or after going into Barnes & Noble. The cashier was super nice & friendly. Ordered a tall decaf chocolate almond milk shaken espresso. When it came, it was pure ice. Earlier that day I had ordered a grande pink drink and asked for light ice. So the cashier named Zee A had a 10 minute conversation with the person in front of me while i was waiting to check out and of course the lady turns around to look at me. So i gave up put down my books and would have just bought them online. Lucky for Barnes and Noble my daughter wanted the items so she went to pay while I waited outside another 5 minutes. If your cashiers want to talk and/or be slow AF maybe you should install self checkout machines. This was a great reminder why I mainly shop online. read more

Not the best experience.. there's a lot to be said about the last few neighborhood bookstores as the Amazon's of the world take over with online ordering and delivery to your doorstep for pricing that is very reasonable. These brick and mortar stores have to show some value to the consumer to draw them in as price savvy consumers look for cost savings. Tonight represented why the days of the neighborhood bookstores are numbered. As I stood in a lonely line only to stare at an empty counter with no one there to take my order, collect my money or even say thank you and did you find everything ok tonight. Sad was I as after a good 4 or 5 minutes I was then greeted and although the cashier was pleasant and friendly, was it enough? The entire store tonight was somewhat shy of visible employees.. wrong move when your in a business that should be showing value to the customer in differences between online and brick and mortar. I gave them a 4 star only because I want the bookstores of the world to stick around if anything but for the nostalgic value. read more

I found myself at Barnes and Noble today because of Member Appreciation Days. If you looked around my place, you would realize that I don't really need anymore books but I couldn't pass up a good deal or a chance to add more books to my insane collection. This is actually a decent store with a good central location adjacent to the theater and in a sizable shopping plaza. It attracts an odd crowd and seems to always be packed with folks from Leisure World. The had a good selection of clearance items and the booksellers were friendly. When I asked the manager about my coupons she was a little abrupt and short with me. I could use all my coupons at the store but with a separate transaction for each. Are you serious? 3 separate transactions? Are your registers not smart enough to handle all coupons? I was prepared for this because I didn't want to hassle driving around to different locations to use my coupons. I browsed around for an hour and made my selections: Under the Dome by Stephen King The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood The Toss of a Lemon by Padma Viswanathan Without any discounts or my membership card, I would have paid $77.90 but with the coupons, promo pricing, and a membership discount my bill was about $38.67 which is a savings of $39.23. Not bad and I got two hardcover books and a paperback and of course, three more books to add to my enormous collection. Plus, the cashier was able to ring them all up under one transaction. I guess the manager didn't know what she was talking about. I'm one happy camper and hooray for my 200th review! read more

This is one of my favorite retail stores in Aliso Viejo because I like to read. The displays of books and magazines and merchandise are well laid out, with a lot of variety in the assortment of literature, newspapers, music, games, toys, and magazines available. Also, there's a Spanish language section toward the back of the store. The staff here is helpful and pleasant. If you know what you want to buy, are able to give the author name and book title, the customer service would be able to help you. The only thing I can think of right now that I don't like is that I am usually asked if I want the B&N card. That kind of pitch is hard to avoid these days so I can hardly blame them. And sometimes the line takes some time. The Cafe inside is popular and has a good amount of tables and chairs, which are often occupied with people sipping the B&N Starbucks drinks, or enjoying snacks, soups, or desserts. I've been able to find a seat most of the time, but it can get packed on the weekends. People like the cafe for studying, reading, and browsing magazines along with a good drink or munchies. read more
