This Hallmark store has been in business for as long as I can remember.... It's a "go to" when a birthday card is needed but they have so much more than just birthday or Christmas cards... lots of little seasonal items they change with the months throughout the year. I get the others comments regarding the service at the register... it's mostly good but every once in a while you get a grumpy cashier... I go here about 4 times a year for different Mother's Day, birthday etc.. cards. Out of those 4 visits one will be grumpy cashier time.. the other 3 visits are perfectly fine. read more

Staff: Mixed experience here being I came in twice. The first time for about 5 minutes and was completely ignored, not greeted in any way. This by itself would normally make me leave and never return but they had what I needed. Came back again about 30 mins later to get the item and was not greeted again. However we were thanked for our business. The store definitely needs some additional training in how to greet customers. Quality/Quantity: Lots of really nice stuff to choose from here. What a great store! Cute greeting cards, great selection. They have stationary, journals/organizers, gifts (small and large), puzzles, Xmas ornaments, basically they have it go! It was nice to get some actual customer service these days, seeing how many stores/businesses don't even bother with a "hello" when you walk in or a "thank you for coming in" when you leave. So Thank you Carol and Donna for helping me out today, and be friendly and polite. Side note to all - through communicating and saying hello back, I learned this is a family store. I have been shopping in Diane's Hallmark, in Aliso Viejo, for close to 20 years. This is my go-to shop for gifts, cards and wrapping paper. I even find boutique clothing and jewelry, purses, PJ's and Christian books and merchandise. Donna, Martha and Jackie are always ready to help or give a suggestion and I enjoy how I'm always greeted as though I were a friend. I was looking for a way to present a special gift to a friend who was retiring. The store owner was very helpful in suggesting a nice gift bag, with colorful tissue to present the gift! The owner did a great job wrapping the gift, and create an effective gift presentation. I would have been happier with and rated this service much higher, had it not been for the unexpected intrusiveness of another store employee wanting to examine the gift before it was wrapped. This unexpected action seemed odd, completely inappropriate and left me feeling very uncomfortable. Shame on the employee's lack of good manners; this store has lost my business forever!! read more

Pros: large inventory. Cons: I ended up putting my items down and walking out. They were just plain rude. Never offered help (did to others) and when I was ready to make my purchase, they asked someone on the other side of the counter if they needed help (customer said they already were being helped) and not one word spoken to me. For many years in AZ it has been a pleasure to shop at a nearby Hallmark store. After my move to California, I knew I had to find a quality store here. And I did. Elam's Hallmark store is one of a kind. I was looking for just the right touch for one of my Christmas gifts. This store is very well stocked and creative in their inventory choices. The items I bought from the greeting card to a humorous flip book spoke to the recipient's heart. I was well pleased at our family gathering to be met by a sincere smile and laughter from a retired, decorated Marine pilot-my new son-in-law! This has to be one of the best Hallmark stores ever! The employees are always so kind and helpful along with the owner. They make a point to call me by name and I always feel so welcome when I enter the store. They always go out of their way to help me find whatever I'm looking for, and if they don't have it, they try to find something comparable, and they're never pushy! Dianne's is a relic from a bygone era when people gave greeting cards and Hallmark stores could survive on card and gift sales. My main gripe about this store is the atmosphere and customer service. The atmosphere is just awful, there is loud music blaring from the overhead speakers, the music is just dismal too. Sad or drippy adult soft rock tunes. Furthermore, the old ladies who work here are just dismal too. They seem to have no personality or people skills. The card selection is dismal, for each category of occaisons to choose a card for, there is a smattering of cards. read more

So I see they removed or hid my 1st negative review. This will be my 2nd. I was just in this store and they are now charging a 3% surcharge on all purchases. This is so they can increase their profit by putting the bite of costs on the consumer. This Hallmark has officially gone down the drain. Terrible selection for Christmas cards. Hardly any good cards for Mom, Grandparents, to Mom from kids and Mother-In-Law. Came in the week before Christmas on a Tuesday. Definitely should have had a better options than just one Mother-In-Law card and absolutely zero cards to a Mom from a kid(s). The clerk who checked me out could have been less friendly. Look, I get it that the holidays are overwhelming, but someone who comes into a card store is trying to participate in the good will of the season. There were four stations going and I had one person behind me. You could have been nice. Very disappointing. I'll only shop here if I have to. read more

I wandered in here for the same reason I always go here: I needed a card. Once I walked past the figurines and knick knacks, I was presented with a dizzying selection of cards. They have all kinds: ones that play music, ones with Christian themes, and 99 cent cards. I've also seen journals and gift wrap in the store. They have a great selection of specialty cards but WHAT THE EFF is up with a $5 minimum to use a credit card?!?! Apparently it's a new thing that just took affect. I found the perfect card for my friend's birthday which came to $4 and change. I had zero cash on me and didn't want to spend more when I just wanted to get out of there and be on my merry way. It's great to have a card shop with a expansive selection NOT IN A MALL. Diane's has a huge selection of cards, great ample parking, and easy access; perfect for avoiding the throngs of aimless zombies at MV, FI or SCP. For the reviewer that complained about pricing: get over it. It's a card. You want to spend $1 less by driving to the mall, fine. This has now become Elam's Hallmark. I visited the store on a Sunday afternoon and found that it was closed. That is very inconvenient for those who can only shop on the weekends. The store itself is fairly nice. They have a nice selection of gifts, things like home decor, costume jewelry, accessories, plush, candles, etc... They have a nice selection of Vera Bradley items. Sadly, their Hello Kitty section is pretty much gone. They also have a nice section of Christian books and gift items. However, I do find their greeting card section to be pretty dismal. The last few times I was in there I found a lot of empty racks and the selection of cards wasn't very good. The customer service, as others have pointed out, is quite poor. Most of the staff is on the mature side and they often seem "put out" or "bothered" by customers. On occasion, I've been greeted with a smile but more often than not I've been rung up with the cashier barely saying a word and not even looking in my direction. That is generally after waiting at the counter for 10 minutes for an employee to even attempt to ring me up. The vibe in the store is quite the opposite of the warm, friendly feel that Hallmark typically tries to portray. read more

OMG, save yourself! I came here last summer to pick up a Father's Day card. I gave the lady behind the counter a store coupon for 30% off (or something like that). The lady asked me if I wanted to get anything else. I said no, just the card. Then she went on about how I was wasting the coupon and I should get my father something from her store. Oh yes, my father would love some bird themed stationary or floral scented hand lotion, lady! I politely told her that I already had a gift for him & I just want the card. Lately customer service has falling in a downward spiral. Sad because I used to frequent this place around 1 every 2 weeks to either window shop or see the latest sales. The worker bees are retired folks so take that for what that's worth. ---If you ask a question be prepared to wait a while ---While checking out, be prepared to wait and have the cashier wander off for any reason ---It's worth it to sign up for their online coupons but when you actually use the coupon in the store, all the older cashiers will gather around the coupon and collectively talk about it, ignoring you Tip: Minimum charge to use credit card is $5 but they have plenty of candy for .50 or a buck to meet that minimum. I've been shopping here for many years. I can usually find a perfect card or gift. The store is always clean. I am usually greeted by a longtime employee whom I've gotten to know over the years because of my frequent visits to the store. It is disappointing how much Hallmark has raised the price of single cards in recent years. The price seems to have doubled to some cards being 6 or 7 dollars. The owner constantly whines about using coupons and rewards. Especially if you want to use them together. Just lost a customer over a $3 coupon. I spend a lot of money there and I earned those rewards. They have nothing to do with the coupon. He has done this often enough that this was the last straw to me. He won't stay in business anyway if he continues to not honor coupons and rewards. I'm done with him and his cheap attitude. I'm gone! read more

Hallmark.Com is giving away $10 gift certificates on their website. I signed up for it and received an email for it :) How nice! So I went to this store, but a HUGE selection of Hello Kitty stuff (OMG) :D A notice an adorable Hello Kitty mug. Looked at the price tag. Saw that the original price of $18 had been crossed out and someone had written on $36. WTF?! I immediately threw it back down as if it was a hot potato. Freaking really?! Jacking up the prices are we? I managed to pick out a few Hello Kitty items for $10. Went up to the register and gave the associate my gift certificate. She took one look at it and looked at me and said "Do you shop here often?" Me: "Not really. Maybe once in awhile. Like once every other month." Associate: "Do you think it is appropriate for you to use this 'coupon'?" Me: "Excuse me?" Associate: "You tell you that you rarely shop here, yet you come in here with a coupon and expect Hallmark to give you all these items for free?" Me: "..... ? And? Hallmark was the one that gave this to me." Associate: "If I was Hallmark, I wouldn't accept this coupon." And then another associate walks up. Rude Associate: "This lady rarely shops here and expects me to give her all these things for free. Can you believe that?" What. The. Fuck. I have never been so pissed off in my life! Who the freak does this old hag think she is?! I actually never got the items for free cause I paid the sales tax ($1.09). But seriously... if she wasn't so old and fragile, I'd complain to the manager and get her fired. Don't bother going to this store. They love to jack up the prices on everything. I'm a fan of greeting cards when you can't quite put into words how you're feeling or even just for the occasional over-commercialized holidays. Since Father's Day was around the corner, I picked up a card for my dad at this Hallmark Shop. It's near my neighborhood and easy to find in the Von's shopping center off of Alicia Pkwy. The store is well kept, with many toys, trinkets, and lots of greeting cards. Service was decent but what can you possibly need help with in a card shop? There are cards for celebration, sympathy, birthdays, love, or just life. There are a lot to choose from. It's a pity in this electronic age that regular USPS mail isn't utilized more often. I fear that kids aren't even taught penmanship these days. Cursive writing is going the way of the dodo bird. How nice is it that you get a card in the mail once in a while? It shows some serious thought and effort. I sure appreciate it and I hope my recipients do as well. read more

Ditto what everyone else says about super crappy customer service. Bought $70 worth of boxed xmas cards, and asked if we could return any unopened, unused boxes in case we bought too many. Were told that, yes, we could. Before xmas, we return 2 of the boxes because we didn't need that many cards. This horrible woman at the counter pointed to a sign that said, "No returns after December 17." We explained that that sign was not there when we purchased the cards, and that the associate we purchased from told us to bring back any unused boxes - no deadline attached. This same nasty woman's first offer was too bad, so sad, you're screwed. Her second offer was a store credit. After 15 minutes of explanation and arguing, she finally - and very grudgingly - gave us a refund. This store and owner deserve to be out of business, because who would continue to give their hard earned money to people who treat others with such disrespect? read more

I will never return to this store! The customer service is absolutely terrible. My husband and I went in to buy individual Christmas cards for our family. We needed approximately 20 cards. This was at 5:55 on a Saturday afternoon. The store had at least 8 customers in it. Not one employee greeted us and would barely acknowledge me when I said hello to them. We figured out why...they close at 6:00. At 6:01 they started shutting off lights...with a store full of people!! Apparently, they don't need the business. Customers started moving towards the counter to check out and the sour faced woman there would not crack a smile even while the woman in line in front of us was apologizing to HER for coming in so late! We put the few cards we had gathered down on the counter and left...NEVER TO RETURN! read more

I go out of my way to shop at Diane's. I am closer to Jen's in Foothill Ranch but they are rude and very unhelpful at Jen's. I witnessed an elderly couple leaving the Jen' store because Jen's employees would not provide a chair for the husband who had Parkinson's, while his adoring wife shopped. They were in their 80's! Then they were also very unaccomodating to me at Jen's after I had spent over $200. I was only asking them to put aside something that I had earned. They were out of stock when I earned it, so I had to make a second trip. I was very sorry I gave them my money. Diane's associates are always gracious and willing to help any way they can. ...And the store is beautiful and full of lots of great gifts!!! read more
