A local record store lost a preorder for a new album release this week, so I called Barnes and Noble to see if they received the album. They had three copies and held one under my name and phone number. After work, I headed down to pick it up and realized I forgot to ask if they received the deluxe album. The cashier helping me confirmed the copies they received weren't the deluxe edition, but she let me know three copies were ordered for the store. She went ahead and reserved a copy of the deluxe edition and complemented me on my name which made my night. Prices here on music are great too. They have music marked down 10% - 20% all the time, and their prices aren't marked up like crazy with some retailers on eBay. Thank you Barnes and Noble staff. You're all amazing! read more

One of the associated checked for me but sadly there was none. Staff is friendly. They have sections for books on sale. Cool vinyl area and the biggest manga selection for a bookstore I've seen in a while. Other than that, this place is a book lovers heaven! So organized and clean. I used to go to this Barnes and Noble as a kid and actually got to take my niece this past Saturday. The friendliness of the team here at Barnes and Noble is just so heart warming, my niece is four and she really wanted a sticker book and we were roaming around looking for it. Our book seller was able to direct us to right place, after sitting for a bit, she ended up choosing the Ballet Faerie sticker book. We paid for our book and as we were heading out she found another sticker/activity book that we definitely had to get. Not sure if there is a different Yelp for the cafe in the Barnes and Noble but my main reason to go was to get B&N $5 book of the month. It's definitely on theme with the season with a little bit of murder mystery. Super fun and friend and I cannot wait to come back, thank you for being so kind to me and my niece! read more

Our family has been coming to this Barnes and Noble location for at least a decade. It has changed many times and now feels like a Toys R Us. We still wander in every once in a while to just check out what's inside and the kids go check out all the different toys while I enjoy a tea or coffee. With that being said we never have anyone around to help when we need to find a book or ask a question. I do not think that's a store issue since customer service everywhere has gone down, but it would be nice for an employee every once in a while to smile and say "Do you need help." I was helped by Jacob when I was looking for a specific book, but unfortunately they didn't have it. He brought me to the section it would've been in so I could look around and we ended up having a nice conversation! He also helped me a newer section they put together to find books about California. This store is always cleaned up pretty well and the sections are huge. I love how much manga and pop culture items they have in the store. The children's book section is also really nice and big. They have good prices on books they have on sale and good deals throughout the year. Regular priced books are what you'd expect them to be: pretty pricey! I love Barnes and Noble, but this particular location I won't return to due to the staff. I would personally rather drive out of my way to the next closest location. Lauren checked me out for my purchase of almost $250 and for starters, her attitude was extremely unpleasant and she acted as if we had inconvenienced her from her conversation with another coworker. She did not ask if I had a membership, I had to mention to her that I had one before she entered my information. Following this, I had cash back rewards on my account that I could have used toward my large purchase that she failed to mention to me. I only knew this by looking at the register screen, and upon bringing it up to her, instead of attempting to be helpful and allow me the chance to use my rewards, she told me that I had to confirm my email and did not give me a chance to do so, and continued to check me out (there was nobody in line behind me, I could have easily confirmed my email if she gave me the chance to). Treating a paying customer who additionally pays for a rewards membership like this is absolutely unacceptable. read more

Danielle is amazing employee I love her attitude, enthusiasm, and customer service satisfaction. This employee was nice to sign me up for rewards and softest me eco friendly bag for my items. I enjoy my morning shopping at the book store with my kid. The store is very organized snd huge with so many selections for a variety of interest and education. I ended up purchasing many books, collectible coin books, and kids stem activities for summer school break under $60 for total purchase. Highly recommend this location a visit to support reading and education. Whenever I feel like unwinding or if I need to buy books for my kids, I always go to this location. Other than it's the closest one to us, it's also at a perfect location near other shops and dining. Sometimes even after we dine somewhere within the area we walk inside here and check out some books. I just love the ambiance. I want to preface this by saying I have been going to this barnes and nobles for years, even before the pandemic, I live with a significant other currently going through cancer treatment and we have both been very cautious during the pandemic as our doctors have recommended for her, we are both avid readers, we have been purchasing our books online through barnes and nobles and haven't had any trouble We recently both felt it was safe to go out again and decided to stop at our favorite bookshop yesterday seeing as they have mask mandates, unfortunately while we were there, there were a few groups who didn't have their masks on, okay thats fine, we kept our distance.. The reason for this review is while in line, the parent in front of us had no mask on, tried to buy something, only for the employee to let her know she needed a mask to purchase anything (good on the employee), of course the customer made a scene, the kind employee called a manager over, and to my shock, the manager said nothing and helped her with her purchase, she made a few rude comments to the other employee afterwards too.. If you're going to have a mask mandate in your shop only to have your employees berated for trying to enforce it, then don't have it all, this is a public health risk and i'm cancelling my membership as well as never shopping here again.. shameful read more

It's a corporate bookstore so don't expect anything too inspiring or local around the bookshelves. What you can find here are gifts and novelties along with all the "New York Bestsellers". This particular BN isn't a bad location. The workers are nice and the shelves are maintained (let's be honest, who reads anymore?) However I'm bent out of shape because they don't have a literature theory / criticism section. Yeah I can peruse the Internet but I like getting out and browsing my authors because I don't always know what I'm looking for. Where does one go to find Foucault, Jameson, and all those dudes? Some of us have graduate applications to fill out and we need the critics! Boo to the twenty-first century! We came here to hangout on a weekend while I was waiting for my appointment at Apple Store. But we do love B&N because you can use their bathrooms anytime, they have their own Starbucks Coffee, Free Wi-Fi and a nice children section area with benches. I love browsing through the selections in the magazines area, cooking and healthy recipes. They do have good sales and if you are a B&N member, you get a discount on top of the sale price. Good clearance. Overall, Kiddos and I had fun here browsing and reading books and enjoyed Starbucks drinks and cheesecake (from Cheesecake factory).Yum! Great place to read books and Chill. Good selection of books, toys, games, DVD movies and line waits are moderate. Customer service are friendly and helpful. I was very impressed with this business establishment. From the very moment I walked in, my family was greeted with a smile and a genuine hello. The employees here were so kind and friendly. You can tell that there are good people who work here. They take pride in their jobs and serving customers. I have been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience. I wanted to get Mariah Careys new memoir since it came out but I have been so busy with work to make the trek out to Barnes. I could have ordered it online but I AM TRYING TO SUPPORT brick and mortar stores, so when I arrive at Barnes 5 minutes well before closing, I see the doors are LOCKED, and all the employees walking around see me at the door wondering why the door is locked when they should be open, yet they walk past without acknowledging me like I'm a piece of garbage. (Side note, I personally HATE when stores are locked and closed before the ACTUAL AND POSTED close time so this boils my blood). I actually call the store to say Hi I wanted to buy a book and its before closing so can I? They already closed down the registors. WHY do you say you're open until a certain time and THEN CLOSE DOWN before that time??!! And second... brick and mortar books stores you should be extra accommodating to customers willing to drive to your store and spend more money than buying it online, so this just doesn't make sense to my rational and logical thinking mind. I love going to BnN to browse at books.... It's nice to also order a drink at their Starbucks and hang out there... I use to come here often to study when I was still in school. This location can get a little busy, especially on the weekends, so chairs at those times are limited. My kids enjoy their kids section, playing with the Thomas trains and track. You can get pretty good deals in their bargain/sale sections.. Otherwise, it seems like their books are a bit more pricey than other places. read more

Today the store manager Olivia was so extremely unprofessional and rude for the 2nd time something like this happens at Barnes & Noble. We are regulars and always consumed coffee and pastries and our table was of 6 to 10 people. First we we were accused by the store manager that came to our table suggesting my 3 year old grandchild opened a toy when she had been on my lap all the time; she should check her security cameras before accusing. Then today the cafe manager Olivia was soo rude to my brother and didn't even apologize at all, when he asked for his coffee with splenda like his usual order, but today she said they didn't have any, when he noticed they had some on the condiment counter so he placed a couple on the counter for her to put on his coffee.. and she went off on him being so rude!! People with No people skills should not be managers and should be removed from that position. read more

I would like to share the most disrespectful most racist probably the most unprofessional customer service I have encountered at any business/store in Chula Vista. Matter of fact in San Diego in General. I went to Otay Ranch with a friend including both our kids, a girl who is 5 and my boy who is 2 years old. While I take the kids to the book section, my friend went to grab us Starbucks inside their store. As her daughter grabs all the books that she likes and would love to buy, the customer service lady walk up to us in front of the little girl and gave me an attitude saying "is she going to buy all these books? books can't be laying on the floor" and I responded, I'm just waiting for her mom but idk if she's going to buy them all but I know she wants to buy them. Her mom came back to check on us and I ask her if she's going to buy the books and she responded yes, I'll buy them all. I'm glad my daughter loves books. I had to tell her the encounter I had with the lady. A part of me feels like we were discriminated and a whole of me felt the racism towards the kids. They were mixed babies, half black half Asian. An old white women giving us including the little girl an attitude moving the books that she pick while she was trying to read them on the floor and told me the books can't be laying down on the floor. Books were fine, nothing was, nothing was broken matter of fact we bought them, all of them she had pick. If we weren't minorities and we have white kids would she tell us if "are we going to buy all those books cause they can't be laying on the floor". I think that specific old white lady needs to get more training in treating customers and actually learning how to equally treat everyone with respect specially young kids who loves to read books. My son is two and if someone told him if he's going to buy all the books that he pick in a kids book section because of the color of his skin or maybe the way he dress or look, I think that specific business needs to close or educate their employees about proper treatment and proper talking to their customers and the kids. We didn't break or tear any books, we were customers inside their store who wants to buy Starbucks and books. We need to be treated fairly and be respected just like any other customers who goes in and out of that's store. read more

This is one of the larger stores in the San Diego area. The travel selection at this store is not as big at other Barnes and Nobles stores I have been to. They are open later than some of the other branches though which is nice. It is still nice to go and shop at a book store than on line. I like the satisfaction of walking away with the book right then and there and looking at it before I buy it. read more

The employees here seem absolutely joyless. I have been here plenty of times and it is always the same. "Did you need something?" Well no, I don't NEED to buy anything. I was going to buy a puzzle that was a little pricy so I asked if they price matched Amazon. She snapped back Only our own website, but never offered to check. Ok no biggie. I paid for our items then asked for a bag. She again snapped at me "We charge for bags !" Umm I never said I wouldn't pay for it and it was never offered. Sad to say I won't be coming here anymore. Came here to check out books and cool off. This place is filled with books, games and other cool stuff. Towards the back is a Starbucks. We come in here to check out books for kids and the cool train set that the toddlers like to play with. The older kids like to read on the other side and just hang out. I also needed to cool off from the heat since there's air conditioning in here. A major plus! There's also a restroom on the side once you enter from the mall side. There were a few workers walking around to make sure books were organized and offered assistance to their customers. My daughter saw the Legos and wanted to play with them. After she played, she went to the train set to play. Luckily my daughter plays nicely with other kids. She loves it when we read to her. Daddy did most of the reading. LOL! Seriously, I'm here away from home and want to add a book to my nook for a plane ride and this store can't figure out how to do it? Customer service girl gives me a blank stare and a snotty, "well I find when I try to download anything on public WiFi that it's just a bad idea!", so I explain that I'm 500 miles away from home so public WiFi, her own store, is my only choice. She gives me a look like she has no clue so why am I asking her!? Oooookkkkk, but I was at the customer service desk and she indicated that she is employed by this store and asked how she could help so... hmmm. Terrible customer service, by the way. Two other employees at the desk helping others did not offer a single suggestion, just left us standing there... like I want to make a purchase from Barnes and noble but who cares... not them... Good news was that at least the cafe had sugar free mocha sauce and I didn't have to beg... at least she said she did, I didn't test the drink... but with customer service like I found in the rest of the store I might start wondering if they were giving me the straight story on the sugar free issue also. And on a weirder note, apparently if you want to act like your happy little pup needs to sit at the cafe table inside with you for your comfort, they choose not to question it... I wish they'd just open it up so that those of us who don't want to scam some mental disorder and need for comfort could bring out dogs into stores and restaurants, too... but that's an issue for another moment... for now, if Barnes and noble wants to dig its way out of the financial issues they've got with the competition online and such, they need to actually fulfill their promise to give support to the people who purchased books from them and merely want to purchase books for the nook now! read more

This review is for the Starbucks inside. I don't know what the relationship between Barnes & Noble and Starbucks is so I just want to say that the problem here is Starbucks, not B&N. I go to this Starbucks at least once a week and there service is getting worse and worse, they are losing clients left and right, I say this because I've heard at least 10 customers say nothing but bad things. I went last night, April 16th, at 9:30 with 30 minutes to close and the barista kept murmuring and getting mad about new customers getting in line and wanting to order. She had this extremely uncomfortable, not-wanting-to-work face. For 3 different occasions she would go to the back room and not come out for minutes, thankfully the drinks are done outside where you can see everything. Even so, she was preparing coffee over cleaning products and this is what pissed me off the most. You clean AFTER you close, not before, or at least not while still preparing coffee. Well, the list goes on. Hopefully Starbucks gets this straightened out. I am qualified to write this review, I worked for 5 years as a barista, barback, and waiter. All I can say that even on my worst days I was still able to show a smile and work hard to earn my tips. Ive always had good experiences at my local barnes and noble. I went in today looking to buy a book, the book I wanted was a little more expensive then i thought so I picked it up a started reading it for a solid hour and a half, in a nice well lit area of the store. The reason why my review is so high is because I was a little worried they would come up to me and tell me I had to pay for the book I was reading for free.But to my they didn't and this a very good thing I got to enjoy my reading session interruption free. As for what the store offers it has a wide selection off books business books ,fiction books,cook books (they have walls of cookbooks) on top of the wide selection of books they have legos,board games, card games and more. There is a caffe you can sit and read (tip it does not accept Starbucks cards). I didn't leave empty handed I picked a fairly priced bargained deal. Great place to hang out....plenty of seating inside the store and many more inside/outside the Barnes and Noble café. BnN members get 10% off, including all purchases from the café. Bookstore is always lively, but quiet enough (except kids area), to enjoy browsing. I have always found what I was looking for and more. Staff have been friendly....and 'around' when you need them (just as important). Café is great, plenty of seating (Including several tables outside), great food and drink choices - way more than a typical Starbucks. Really friendly and helpful 'baristas', which is a rarity in such in store 'cafés'. Love it here to relax, located in the beautiful Otay Ranch Town Cetner. read more

This has to be one of the bigger Barnes and Nobles I've been to. I now live in Las Vegas and none of them come close to the size of this place. My daughter and I use to visit this B&N weekly. We didn't always buy something, but it was a nice place to get some work done at their Starbucks, read a few magazines, and purchase a book. I'm not sure if it's because of size or demand, but this B&N always seems to have what we're looking for. Also at this location is a fairly sized kid's book area and huge DVD and CD area. The staff is usually great at this location, but let me stress the word "usually". On my last visit, not a single employee was to be found. All of their main registers were missing cashiers to ring my purchases. Their Customer Service desk was also lacking employees. It came to a point that I forgot I was in a bookstore and thought I was at a library. Eventually I found someone that can ring me up in their DVD/Media location. He apologized and stated that Starbucks could have taken care of my purchases. Really, how was I suppose to know that? Overall, still a fan of this location. This was just 1 out 100 visits that was a negative one. Probably just an off day for B&N...literally. PS: Their cafe says Starbucks, looks like a Starbucks, and even sells Starbucks coffee.
