I love books and this is my second favorite place next to the library. Whenever I am looking for a particular book from my book club I go to this place since I know I can get it. The selection is pretty good but I can always go to customer service and order it. And the staff are almost always helpful and friendly. I am also a Funko Pop fan and whenever I see something I want I usually get it here. The prices are a little more than Amazon or other online retailers, but it can't beat that old brick and mortar feel that is a must when it comes to what Barnes and Noble is selling. read more

Basically only big bookstore left in Hawaii and they do an excellent job stocking titles for all tastes. Their discount card is a a bit of a ripoff as you have to spend over $250 a year to break even. read more

Standard national bookseller. Despite the bustling business, organized premises, and helpful staff I suspect this holdout won't last much longer with online purchase ability available to us all. I went to purchase six books, to give as gifts, all of which I had found and priced online. None were in stock. After dealing with the traffic and parking, I returned home to purchase the six online. This is the only Barnes and nobles on the island and I go here all the time. The membership have saved me a ton of money. And the cafe is not like the regular Starbuck them sell yummy snacks. read more

This is a review for the cafe located in here. Food and drinks are good and some of the workers are nice but the older looking female with shoulder length hair and uses red lipstick (I think she's the manager) is rude. She tried to kick me out because I was in the cafe too long (I was doing homework) and I didn't buy anything else since I first came in. She told me to buy something else or leave and so I proceeded to the line and purchased an Asiago Stuffed Pretzel because I didn't want to leave until I was done with my assignment. read more

I requested a book for pick up, and I also call to verify that it would be available. I received an email saying that it was available for pickup, but once I arrived to the store to get the book I was told that it was behind the counter. I went to the counter where I was told that it was no longer there. I wasted a lot of time coming to get the book for it not to be there. read more

Was really looking forward to coming back to this bookstore. Had a little time to spend and one of my favorite things is looking for a good read. While looking through the aisles, I happened on a book that looked interesting. It was on the lower shelf so I squatted down on top of my feet to browse a couple of pages when from my side I was rudely told not to sit on the floor. Technically I wasn't sitting and Secondly how was I to look at a book on the bottom shelf more easily than to sit on the balls of my feet? I dismissed the associates rude behavior and decided to look for a place in the coffee shop. As usual. ..nothing. However there were plenty of chairs not being used due to single occupants at tables so I asked to borrow one. I took the chair no more than three feet away, but mind you, nearer to the books. I was in no one's way. Several minutes later I get another rude associate telling me the chairs belong in the Cafe and I can't be sitting in one where I was. I looked at the associate and said "you guys sure do have plenty of rules here". In which he walks away saying thank you. Wow! Never again will I shop here. I was at the store ready to buy books for school, checking with the B&N website, the books were drastically cheaper. In an effort to buy books at the store I asked if they would match what was posted online. They said no. This doesnt make sense to me, especially when shipping is free. No place to sit down and review your selections to determine the best options. The cafe inside has tables and chairs. However, 10 minutes after sitting down I was asked to leave as the chairs are only for food purchasing guests. Completely irritated I left to make my purchases on Amazon.com and review my selections on the comfort of my own couch. Never will I visit another B&N. this place stinks. read more

I read a few reviews on how some of the staff members are rude. Never believed it until I experienced it first hand. I was trying to get a simple price check on items and a Caucasian lady with brown hair gave me an attitude assuming I was cutting in line. Nobody was in front of me or behind me at the time. So I told her no none was ahead of me but take care of this other customer that just walked in line because I did not want to get into it with her. I left the cash register area and proceeded to pick up more items in the store and return to the line. There was another customer ahead of me as I waited for my turn. Come to find out the same lady working cash register cops me an attitude and tells me when it's my turn she will help me. I looked at her like she was crazy for giving me an attitude while I was WAITING IN LINE!! I promptly put down my items that I was planning on purchasing and walked out the store. I believe in customer service and the Caucasian lady with the brown hair who was working the cash register was not very friendly or accommodating. I did not appreciate her rude attitude and other customers in line were looking at her like she was crazy. I will be taking my business some where else. Please bring back Borders at least their cashiers are friendly. If this atrocious way in dealing with customers is called "customer service" then I will not be taking my business again to Barnes & Noble. Thank goodness for Amazon. read more

Worst service ever. Tried the reserve in store and my order was not there. On top of that, the cashier didn't know what she was doing, couldn't explain what happened, and the told me to go to the customer service desk to get another copy of the book I had ordered. I told him thank you but I was just asking because another location had them in store but was just sold out at the moment. He said "yea, they probably bought them online." I'm so glad Honolulu still has a real bookstore! I love this place! Much as I love reading a real, hardcover book, my friend gave me a Nook years ago. It took me a while to get used to my Nook, but I grew to love it. Sadly, it's on it's last legs, and I have had to stop by your Nook desk at Ala Moana several times to revive it. Let me just say that Michelle is awesome! She's so helpful and really knows her stuff! I appreciate her kindness. I'm a bit technologically challenged, but she never made me feel that way. It will be time to get a new Nook soon, and Michelle showed me several different ones to choose from. She highlighted the features on each: educating without being pushy. You need more employees like Michelle, she's the best! I hope to be there on Black Friday to purchase a new Nook! read more

I was at the Barnes and Nobles Ala Moana yesterday afternoon to buy some books and check out a wellness fair or something. Several chairs were tucked in one side closed to the children's book's section. Several ladies were wearing purple shirt with "Call of Sedona" written on it. I guess they were the ones in charge of the fair. I thought this idea of a fair is neat. Barnes and Nobles should be complemented for thinking about it.. However, the area assigned to it was rather narrow; not central. The area is just in one small side covered with files of shelves that are closely located to the cashiers. Even if some people were inviting the customers to sit and listen to the lecture, people seem to be aloof and wary. Also, the voice of the main lecturer was drowned by some announcements from the cashier side. In the end, people who were curious in the beginning became disinterested. The creative and noble idea of enticing customers to take advantage of a wellness activity was marred by (a) wrong choice of location; (b) other sounds competing with the announcements of the wellness fair; (c) lack of focus given to the activity. Good idea, B & E Ala Moana, more promotion though, and more focus! read more

The only reason why this place gets four stars instead of three is because they have Wifi and i've been guilty of running here for a starbucks when my wifi crashes. other than that, this place is really average. Ask the help desk to order a book for you if theyre out of what your looking for. i like the gift section and the journals they offer. But overall some of their products are meh and a bit overpriced. The place is always clean though and always has low music. I love books and reading, so this is a great place for me but I've seen much better book stores in my day. read more
