This is my very 1st YELP review and it has to be a BAD one! I love Barnes and Nobles, although it is pricier than Amazon and the return policy isn't as great, but I enjoy being able to go into a bookstores and sample the books before I make a purchase. Anyways, I purchased a few books and I didn't have time to read them, so I decided to return them to buy children books to donate to schools rather than just leave those books turn to dust. I never had issues with returning anything at other B&N location. This time I experienced the worst customer service ever. Monday 1/28/19 I brought the books in, the guy at the cashier didn't seem to like his job. He rudely asked "Why are you returning?"...not in a way that his job requires, but in a rude way, as if he owns the stores and wouldn't allow returns. Store policy allows returns then I return! I should have just said that instead of being polite to rudeness! I replied "Well I don't find the needs for these and like to return so I can purchase other books to donate." He gave me this look and asked "How long you purchased these for?" I said "Within 14 days I believe. Will you please check my membership card?" He scanned my membership card and scanned the books and said he couldn't locate them. And rudely told me I would get the lowest price for the books as a store credit. I told him I paid with my debit card as well and he can check that way. He said "I need the receipt or else you only get the lowest price back with store credit"! Dude was trying to use fear on me! Heck no! I told him "that's not going to happen." I had to dig through my wallet and luckily I found the receipt. Then he made some ridiculous remarks as if I was trying to lie. I told him "look I always returned with my membership and never had any issues. I never said I didn't have a receipt. I just found it more convenient with the card and i couldn't locate the receipt." He still gave me a hard time so I asked for the manager. He called for his manager and said "idk why this lady wants to speak to you. Come now". Who speak to their manager like that? I think the manager is being managed by him! She came and I asked her if my membership card was working, since he couldn't locate my books with it and if it doesn't work I would need it to be fixed for next time. She checked and said it worked and I asked why it didn't show my purchases with the membership. She looked at him and he said when he scanned it didn't show. Then she piggybacked on it and said "Oh because the membership didn't link to your receipt". She thought I was dumb! I asked "I used my membership to get 10% discount and it showed on the receipt so why it didn't link?" Then she looked at him and said "Well did you try using the card she used to pay to look it up?" He replied "she paid with cash" Said who? Not I! On my receipt it showed I paid with debit! That fool needs proper training! He didn't know how to do his job, yet he could come up with so many lies! I said "I paid with debit"! Then he spoke over me and said "let me do the refund." Oh yes, he was afraid I would complain so he ended up using the manager's name on my returns and told her he would sign in on her register with his name and she use his account to assist someone else, and she gladly complied. I lost all mood to even go find books. I left right away! I will never return to that store. Poor customer service, poor staff management, lack of training. After witnessing their interaction, I have the impression that he was her manager and not the other way around. read more

I love Barnes&noble, in all my years and frequent trips here I've never been told I can't sit around and read in the aisles. I was here for about ten minutes and I was genuinely so confused when an employee told me to get up. No hate if that's your store policy, I've just NEVER known this!! So, are we allowed to sample book in this store? If we can't chill in the aisles, why is there no seating? I was honestly so disappointed, because I go to Barnes with the sole purpose of reading for a few hours, but I left because I felt weirded out after being snapped at.. guess the public library is better after all. read more

I solemnly swear that Barnes and Noble did a fantastic job hosting the midnight book release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! The staff was full of energy playing fun games such a team trivia, pictionary, charades, etc... They even continued to play games while we waited in line outside. They gave away Harry Potter prizes throughout the night which I thought was quite generous. One employee made awesome HP necklaces and socks that were given away as prizes too. How cool is that?! Although the staff was working late, their energy and excitement were upbeat which made the evening exciting! Between the games, muggle wall, fortune telling, and enthusiasm of staff, we had a MAGICAL time. Thank you Barnes and Noble for giving us such an entertaining night! read more

Love books, and I love shopping here. Even if I am not buying anything it is still fun to browse and see what is new. After my friend and I see a movie (which is right next door) we always walk over to this barns and nobles because we love books. It is always clean and well kept. I do like the language book section. I have been meaning to get a book on learning Korean for sometime, one day! The customer service there is very good, employees are friendly. What is also a nice little plus is that they have a Starbucks attached to the store, so its always nice to grab a coffee after getting a good book! No problems here, we will most likely continue coming here :) read more

This has to be one of the best Barnes and Noble bookstores that I've ever been in. The layout is perfect and they've got an upstairs and a cozy downstairs. Its so comfortable to browse and get lost (in a good way) in. There's even a full service s*bucks that connects with the store. Though I hate it, I do have to patronize- come on, gingerbread syrup in the coffee? tis the season! Its a great place to hang out, especially great place to stop in if you're heinously late to a UYE , embarrassed to show your face and need to make your trip down to LB worth something . read more

One of the last remaining bookstores continues to hold it down. While prices can't compare to Amazon, this is a great place to check out books and stay at all day if you love to read. It will be a sad day the day Barnes & Noble decides to go out like Toy's R Us. read more

This is by far my favorite Barnes and Noble. It's a little darker than other B&N's so it feels kinda cozy to me. They have a great selection of books. They have an awesome collection of "bargain books" too. I could easily spend hours wandering around the isles here. The people are super friendly. A plus is that there is a Starbucks adjacent to the store so you can purchase a coffee and take it in with you. I think this is par for most big book stores. The music selection isn't the best and the prices are a little high, but they more than make up for it with the selection of books. This store is a great way to spend a few hours reading. Whoever designed the layout for this location rocks! When you walk around in this place, it actually makes sense. You can find everything yourself and not miss a thing. I don't really buy a lot of books here, but sure do read a lot of their stuff. It's one of my favorite places to spend a weekend afternoon with a coffee and a book in one of the comfy overstuffed chairs. They have great study tables, too. They added a new info counter upstairs by the escalator, which is staffed all the time, so you don't have to seek out the staff. They lose a star because I really want a computer kiosk so I can browse titles myself. The other bookstore that i hate(starts with a B, and rhymes with orders) already has that option. Come on guys, step it up! Biggest magazine selection in town, Starbucks and Jamba Juice next door. Friendly helpful staff, clean restrooms. Parking hint: This busy complex has an underground garage that is super secret and mostly unknown except by the locals. Enter by the Ralph's grocery and drive to the end. Drops you off at the stairs right under the bookstore! But keep it to yourself! :) read more

Tyler at this Barnes & Noble location is a Christmas Miracle!!! My Baby Girl is visiting from Japan w/her family. She needed two specific books, The 33 Strategies of War and The 48 Laws of Power. When we arrived on December 22nd around 5:30 p.m., the store was crowded with bustling shoppers in all directions. Approaching us was a pleasant, young man named Tyler. He asked if we needed help and we said yes. Tyler quickly led us to the books, and then realized one of the books had a crease on the cover- he was very apologetic. We said it was ok in the condition it was in, and Tyler insisted on checking the computer to verify whether additional copies were in the store. When Tyler returned, he apologized that the copy in hand was the last one. We didn't mind and I told him we're grateful for his help and his pleasant demeanor. We offered to buy him lunch for being such an awesome helper- during this busy time- and as crowded as the store was, he was appreciative. I let him know I would Yelp a positive review because he was such a refreshing employee, on what was a hectic day. Go on and visit Barnes & Nobel and look for Tyler- he's an OUTSTANDING representative of what customer service is all about! Merry Christmas folks, and especially to you Tyler! read more

Why couldn't this be the B&N that is in Bella Terra??? I love this location while I abhor Bella Terra, which is right next to my house and work. I'll drive to Long Beach from now on. That's how much I love this store. Layout is great and staff are really nice and friendly. The selection is outstanding and I love the displays and organization. Things were very easy to find while being open & spacious at the same time. I made a major purchase here (major for me that is) that I would probably have made on-line. Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc at Home. Plus I had to check out Chelsea Handler's new offering. While I was paying, the woman checking me out was raving about the TK book, how much she loved it, how it sells out constantly, they just got a new shipment in, etc. We had a brief but extremely pleasant conversation and she genuinely told me to enjoy the book. Check out this location if you are in the area. I'll come here now even if I'm not in the area. Screw Bella Terra. They could learn a LOT from this store. read more

A huge location with a sizable children's area. This location also has an events area for story time and other promotional events. The service is excellent, the restrooms are clean, and the bookstore is attached to a Starbucks. Doesn't get better than that! This two story bookstore is a great place to purchase your books, magazines, toys, or Nooks. Tip: Sign your kids up for the Kids Book Club for discounts and a free cupcake on their Birthday. read more

Compared to the Huntington Beach location, B&N Long Beach has a better store layout and a great selection of books. I also dig their DVD / Music section...a lot of independent music too at well...semi-decent prices. I really like the fact that recently they have started to carry vinyl of certain albums, giving the customer the option to pick up some classic albums like AC/DC's "Back In Black" on vinyl, rather than on CD. I'm all for the revitalization of vinyl ya know... The customer service is down-to-earth and doesn't give off the "I'm a book snob and you just suck" attitude that most employees at bookstores usually give off. Good Stuff! read more

This is a pretty nice Barnes and Noble and usually pretty quite. It's spacious too being 2 stories wit one entering the top level and taking an escalator to the bottom. There's no cafe so this may be why it's so quite most the times I come here. read more

Very nice two story bookstore that is conveniently connected to a Starbucks. They operate separately, but will let you use the other's restroom if theirs is occupied. We were just stopping in for a quick beverage and regretted not having the time to browse. read more

There is something unbelievably comforting about the smell of books. Sure, there are millions of digital devises that lend to easy access in the literature department, but none can emulate the smell and feel that you get from a book. Maybe its just me, but I find myself becoming lost in the stories and options available when I walk into a book store; as if I am walking into an adventure. The staff is friendly without being overbearing. Parking has its moments, but the location is pretty awesome. read more

It never fails. I walk in here with a smoothie and a grimace. I walk out with a bag o' books/magazines and an anticipatory smile. This place is perfect! Plus, I have my game plan set. First, the new hardcovers at the front of the store that usually have some kind of percentage off- then, onward to the huge selection of magazines, where I yank a copy of the most recent issue of my favorite design/advertising magazine- then, down the escalator to the manga section, where a salesperson is usually stocking the newest additions and is oh so happy to tell me whether or not the latest installment of Ouran Host Club is out. Ah, sweet dork-dom satisfaction.... Another thing I appreciate is that while the cashier always offers the B&N card, they don't push it on you. However, maybe one of these days I should actually get one, since I tend to spend a good chunk of my paycheck on literature lurv... read more

Is it me or am I the only one who cannot navigate book stores? I already dispite reading so much (p.s. I have slowly been trying to read 1 book every few months to up my momentum), that I feel like the book Gods are making me walk blindly through a maze when I go into Barnes & Noble. Wait, I can find the magazine section, but that doesn't really count. Anyways, with that said, I still can't recall the difference between fiction or non fiction so I am pretty much the dumb customer 100% of the time. The staff here is so helpful in finding particular books I am searching for. If they don't have a certain book in stock they can call over to other Barns & Nobles (which are far away) but they will really try to get that book to you. Only downside for you avid book lovers, there isn't much space to sit down and read or study, aside from Starbucks. I think once during college I was asked to move because I were sitting in the aisle looking at a book. Also, how awesome is it that Starbucks and Jamba are next door so you can sip on a tasty treat while you walk the aisles of this huge 2 story location. read more

It's one of the bigger Barnes & Noble stores. More books, more music, more vinyl. The associates are generally pleasant, if not especially helpful. By that I mean they never offer anything beyond the standard "Can I help you." I'd like somebody to be telling me about specials, offers, other products I might like, etc., so a little ding there. The layout is a little chaotic, with some vinyl, for instance upstairs next to the escalators, instead of downstairs with the music and videos. You can't stock everything, so how about a more accessible in-store ordering system and associates who show that off. Pick up in store, so I don't have to deal with FedEx or UPS and their craziness. C'mon, B&N, wow me. The Starbucks next to it is tiny and the customers there are a little territorial. Not B&N's fault, but an FYI. read more

Well we came in around 9:15 pm today (saturday 3/26/11) help was not around, waited by the help desk for close to 10 minutes before I gave up and went to to look for a clerk. The register guy checked for the book I was looking for and sent me downstairs to get it. Yet another 5 min go by while I look where he told me to, before flagging an associate who took me to the music department where the guy checked their computer and told me they have one copy on hold but asked if I want ordered from their website. couple of issues: 1. help is hard to find, why not put some self help kiosk where i can check your system for inventory and location 2. couldn't the clerk upstairs save me another 10 min by telling me you are basically out. 3. I can order online by myself if I came in, it because I wanted the book now and it's not available electronically btw the book I wanted is the new Neil Strauss book, a book that is on NYT best seller list and came out a week ago, not some random odd request but a heavily promoted/publicized book! read more

I don't usually go to book store and buy books since almost everything is digital now. But I do come here once in awhile to buy gifts, especially for kids. My friend's son is in to dinosaurs and lucky this location carries some dinosaurs books and diy skeleton kit. The employees here are very helpful and do their best to help out. One employee even recommended this dinosaur 3D book to me and my friend's son was totally into it, he didn't even care for the iPad he also got for christmas. This place is very clean and neat. Down side is parking can sucks if you want to park close to the bookstore. read more

A- it's a great bookstore B- no-hassle returns if you don't like your gifted book C- I always see lots of employees to help me find things D- It's an awesome place to kill time if you're early for a movie at the AMC downstairs, and the B & N staff do not mind if you bring in coffee or Jamba Juice from next door. E - there are chairs so you can read the beginning of a book and make sure you'll like it before buying. read more

Very convenient location and employees are always willing to help out. The only reason I deducted a star is because I've tried to find several books here and they never have them in stock. It's generally a smaller location than most Barnes and Noble, so I figured as much. Would be nice to have a bigger selection! Trying to return something I had my receipts the card I used and everything they needed, still got treated like I stole the item, finally got figured out and got refund but wow!!! Worst customer service ever, and worst management. I have no clue how your manager is the manager with zero skills in customer service. This is/has been my favorite timesink in between classes when I was an LB student, and while waiting for my movie to start over at Marina Pacifica =) The staff is very helpful here. I once searched for a book low and high and did not find it. I didn't want to order it online, I wanted to pick it up in person, since there was a time issue. They didn't have the book in stock, but they helped me locate another store closer to my home which had it, then called and had the book placed on reserve for me. I know it's expected that store staff do things like that for their customers, but it's still nice, and I still appreciate good service like that. read more

This is my personal favourite local big bookstore. I can't stand the one at Long Beach Towne Center. Too many cars, too many people. Bella Terra is similarly just too busy for me. Marina Pacifica is a smaller shopping center. Aside from the bookstore, there's a movie theater, a candy shop, and a few restaurants down the way. The store is big and spacious, never empty, but always respectfully quiet enough to concentrate on the books you're interested in. Aside from a few people killing a few moments before their movie starts, the people inside are generally there for book-related purposes. The layout is nice, not confusing, and the staff is always helpful and more than willing to help you find the right book (or magazine, or game). There is also a small bookshelf-on-wheels right in front of the store, filled with an assortment of some of the cheapest bargain books. Always worth a look. I'm a Barnes & Noble girl. Some of my friends prefer Borders, and I shop there sometimes too, but if you buy enough books, and partake in their yearly membership, I find Barnes & Noble to be the better store. If you, too, are a local Barnsie, I encourage you to check this one out. read more

Im a writer but i also love to read daily during the evenings. Instead of television i go to this location to find a great selction of books on a wide variety of subject matter that i find interesting. Political satire, autobiographical, psychology, self help and so many other subjects of interest. Staff is helpful and the aisles are kept in order and easy to locate what im looking for. Never stuffy and conveniently located next to an adjoining Starbucks for a late night cup of joe. read more

Come here with the kiddos sometimes. Two toddlers around the age of 3. Luckily for the sake of everyone else in the store, the children's section is VERY separate from the rest of the store. Downstairs and takes up about half of the floor space. Don't have to worry about the kids being too rowdy for those reading around us and they are free to explore all of the books as they'd like. A great children book selection with every book imaginable. Sure the price range is a little steep, but there is always the sale section where we always find at least one book that the girls LOVE. When we go, it's like a mini field trip. We get downstairs and the girls bolt for the books. They usually end up collecting a stack of books and we sit down and read them all before choosing what books we will take home. One of the most laid back trips with the girls where they can enjoy themselves. Always spend a minimum of 1 1/2 hours there. Not sure how much B&N loves US, but we love IT! =) So I guess my review is mostly for the children's space and not necessarily the entire store itself. And if you have some little kiddos, who love books, B&N is the spot! read more

I still enjoy coming to a brick-and-mortar bookstore, even with online stores and the popularity of e-books and devices such as the Kindle. This Barnes & Noble store at Marina Pacifica is my favorite. I can literally be here all day long and not get tired of it. It has 2 floors of retail space and plenty of places to plop down and read. This location also has these amazing floor-to-ceiling windows that look out into the adjacent residential marina. There is a large selection of books, magazines, movies and music of many different categories and genres. An added bonus is the attached Starbucks store (if you're a Starbucks fan) and the adjacent Jamba Juice. Service here is friendly and knowledgeable. The parking can be somewhat lacking, especially on the weekends, but Yelper Caley S. mentioned a secret parking structure underneath the shopping center, so I'm definitely going to check that out next time I come here. :-) read more
