I walked in a little before 7pm. All the lights and music were on, there were customers walking around, and the front door was even propped wide open - all signs pointing to an open store. An employee at the front immediately told me they were closing soon. No hello, just we're closing. I said I know exactly what book I need so I'll be fast. He then rudely said, "You have 3 minutes." He obviously didn't want me there, so I turned around and walk out those wide open doors. I get having patience for stores during covid, but that's a 2-way street. I won't be buying my book here, but I'll rise above the 1-star service I was given and give them 3 Covid sympathy stars. read more

The other day I found that I needed to pickup a book to do some self-training over the next several months. I went online and found the book that I fit my needs available at numerous sellers. When I saw that Barnes and Noble had an option to pick-up the book at the store, I figured why not give the sale to the bookstore down the street. While the book was priced ~$12 online, the email I received said my book was available for pickup at $25. I went down to the store anyhow to see if, like most retailers with an online and brick-and-mortar presence, they match their online price (I'm not asking them to match Amazon). At was told that there was nothing they could do - yep, they're a huge chain... The people at Barnes and Noble should go and pull an economics book from their shelves: the value of an item is based on what the market is willing to pay. They are by accommodating and are more than willing to order books in store for you. The Barnes and Nobles membership is for sure worth getting if you are a book lover (like myself), it works not only with getting you discounts on books, but also at their Starbucks cafe that's in store. So, I've been a fan of Barnes and Noble since I was 8 and first began dipping my toes into the literary pool. If you asked me if I would rather go to a toy store or a book store, there would be no hesitation in my response. Despite the cost of their books compared to half price or amazon, I was a loyal customer for 17years. However, after trying to call 3 times, being hung up twice, and then taking an extended period of time to actually get help, the customer service and human connection seem to have faded into a thing of the past. I'll now be taking my business elsewhere. Being a physical retail store, the only leg up you have is personal customer service and instant gratification. I got neither. read more

This is a great place to loiter for the price of a cup of coffee. You might even buy something! There is plenty of seating for those who want to browse for a while and nobody bothers you. That said, the staff are very friendly and helpful if you ask them for help. One of the managers, Sean, is super knowledgeable when it comes to tech books and more than willing to take time to chat and help you find what you are looking for. I came to find out that he is also a high tech instructor at ACC so go figure. Be sure to get the free membership for discounts (including 10% off the in store Starbucks). Barnes and Noble is just fine for what it is. An overpriced book store with Starbucks coffee. Don't go here looking for a great deal or something unique. For that, I would head to Half Price Books. But I don't mean to knock on B&N: They have a wide selection and the store is usually clean. The cafe is not as tidy though. This is probably because 1 or 2 people work at any given time and customers bring stacks of books to the cafe and don't put them back. This, compounded with the trash people leave behind equals a sloppy looking cafe area. Regarding the bookstore, B&N is a good place to find new titles, but Half Price offers incredible discounts if they carry what you need. read more

I think this is my first time to give anything one star. But there are so many things wrong with this place. I must admit, I love going here to study after school, because it's quiet, I can buy coffee, and I have free internet access and open access to books (which I don't plan on buying... hehe, I'm such a tricky little wench). But everything about this screams "I'm a dying shopping mall location." The books are well organized for the most part, and they do, indeed sell books. So they've met two very minimal standards for book stores: organization and actually possessing books. And that's where it ends. The customer service center is normally either completely unmanned, or is headed by a foul demon who glares at you with cruel resentment. They speak to you as if you're a pesky younger sibling that won't stop bothering them to help you "find books" or whatever RIDICULOUS suggestion you made to them. **eye roll**. If they're not complete jerk wads, then they're definitely going to be FREAKISHLY ditsy, but still nice. Please, though, think about it: who wants a ditsy person helping them find wonderful intellectual fodder? I can understand maybe having them guide me through the GIANT TABLE DEVOTED TO ONLY TWILIGHT MATERIALS (yes. It exists. I almost took a picture), but outside of that, it's just uncomfortable. And the bad service does not end there. Oh no. The Barnes & Noble Cafe. Free internet! It has tables! Positive things! Now for what it's really like. I walk up to the counter with my best friend Katie. She orders a turkey panini and a starbucks drink. And apparently they thought me and here were some awkward teenage lesbian couple that splits all of our food, because they didn't take my order next. NO. They took the order of the woman standing behind me. I awkwardly continued standing where I was (at the counter), and the woman ordered around me. I didn't want to budge until the burned-out cashier noticed I hadn't moved, and my "girlfriend" had already gone to sat down, so naturally, I WANTED SOMETHING. They finally got the hint when she saw I was tapping my wallet on the counter impatiently. "Oh, I'm sorry. Were you...?" She awkwardly trailed off. I said "Yeah. Don't worry about it." (I didn't want to stress the poor dear's brain cells too much. She seemed to have enough trouble putting on her apron a few minutes before [now does the little loopy thing go around my waist or....]). And I went on to order a pepperoni and mozzarella pretzel panini. It was the only safe looking sandwich they had to offer (I don't know if I trust sandwiches requiring fresh produce from a book store), so I jumped on it. I ordered that and a starbucks drink. It was something like 9.93. So that's 7 cents in change if I give her a ten dollar bill, for you that don't want to do that daunting math. She gave me 7 DOLLARS. I was tempted to just walk away with it. But I was feeling compassionate, and said.. "how much was that again?" And she said she was sorry and meant to give me 7 cents. But she had already closed the register. So I had to stand and wait another 5 minutes for her to reopen the register to put the money back and give me 7 cents... Woo. Shouldn't brainy people work at bookstores? It's soooo much more appealing. The sandwich was fine, but the cheese wasn't melted enough for your standard panini. The pepperoni was average quality. So no complaints on flavor. The drink was your ordinary starbucks drink (made by a much more competent worker than my cashier, thank God). But GOD that cashier! She was just... I don't know what she was. I assumed there was a hotbox session in the backroom before I got there, and I started to wonder why I wasn't invited. That'd be some good customer service, amaright? Kidding of course. Summary: They have books and concessions. They don't have people who know how to sell either of them. Ahh well. I gotta study somewhere... =/ read more

It's pretty much a typical soulless corporate bookstore. It's not exactly my favorite bookstore to go but they always temp you with those coupons you get via email. Sometimes you want to go there because you feel like you are saving money but don't forget you have your second-hand bookstores or even thrift stores. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I went to return a Nook I bought through the Website, online it states you can return in store as well, but either way I called to be safe and was reassured. However once I got there they spent 15 mins lecturing me on how they don't take the returns from online purchases and, rolling their eyes, said theyll do it this time. The lady then began lecturing me on how If i had come in for the purchase I probably wouldn't be returning because she loves her Nook and knows so much about it, blah blah. Immediately she tries grabbing it and I said oh hold on please i just have to reset. That threw her in a huge hissy fit about how I needed to do this at home from my computer and on and on. It took all my strength to hold back the sarcasm about her tech savvy "Nook Knowledge" as I simply pushed the Factory Reset button from the Menu. What a genius. She gave me the Worst attitude for the entire visit. Then wanted to give me absolutely No proof of the return! They expected me to just walk out of there empty handed and trust them to refund my card after it was shipped. Yeah right. Can't wait to see you guys shut down. Ugh, this bookstore is so disappointing. I've recently gotten back into "real" books rather than kindle books. I missed the feel of a real book and find it hard to concentrate when reading e-books. Also, bookshelves with loads of books will always have a place in my dream home. Anyway, I've started to go to this Barnes and Noble a few times a month, hoping to find new books to read. I've always loved just spending a few hours wandering around bookstores. I prefer Bookpeople, but this bookstore is close to shopping. Unfortunately, I've been so disappointed with the staff here lately. The woman whose job it is to help you find a book seems to hate helping people. The other day, when I asked her for help because I couldn't find a particular book, she snapped, "well, they're just in alphabetical order by author's name." Right, I get that. I still need your help. She did end up helping, grumbling the whole time. I actually felt embarassed for having bothered her. And several of the books I was looking for were published in 2012, but not in stock or were strangely listed as out of print in their computer . Yet, I can find them easily on amazon for free shipping with amazon prime (so worth it). What's the point of going into bookstores like this one anymore if the staff is just going to be surly and they don't have what I want? I will say the register lady was very nice, so I'm sure this other woman was just a bad egg- but she would do much better in a job where she didn't have to help people. I guess I'm just going to stick with Bookpeople for the experience and amazon for the service from now on. read more

I used to go to the location in the Arboretum when I lived up north but I have to say I like this one better. It's easier to navigate and laid out in a more logical order. I have never been able to come here and leave without a new purchase. I already have an entire shelf of my bookcase lined up with books that I'm waiting to read but I am still inspired to collect more every time I come into this B&N. read more

This Barnes and Nobles is by my house, so I tend to go in when I go to Old Navy or Michael's. I like to look at their sale books, but they are so disorganized, I walk around like I'm lost and confused. I start out by looking at the sale books in the foyer area, but then they are also inside on the sale racks so I feel I'm just wasting time looking at the same books in different locations. The rest of the books seem to be discombobulated. They have racks going this way, and that with some tables thrown in. The staff is less than helpful. I think they could not find themselves out of a paper sack if they needed to. They cannot transfer books between one store to the next, so you have to drive way out of your way if this store is out of it. They seem to have adequate amount of staff, but they only put one on the register so you have to wait forever to pay for your purchases. If you want a CD or yoga socks, you have to go way to the back and have to pay for them in this little section. Then, if you see something else on your way out, you have to stand in line again! If you reserve something on line, try and ask where to pick it up. I stood in line at front when I reserved some yoga socks and found out once I got up there, I had to walk all the way to the back where the CD's are sold to get them. YES!! That makes total sense! Go if you have a lot of time to kill and you looked up everything on the internet you need information on prior to going. read more

This place is awesome. A great place to go on a rainy or cold day. Just settle in an read you a great book. I myself prefer non fiction books like science and photography and nature and they've got a decent selection for it. There's really nothing like coming here to escape the world for a little bit. I always manage to find something there that I get hooked into and want to buy. The staff is so-so. I can kind of see where people may have trouble with trying to get help from an employee since they seem to want to do anything BUT help you. However I've never had a seriously rude employee. You just need to be a bit assertive with them. The Starbucks on the other hand, is great here. Always full of tasty snacks and great drinks. So if you find yourself on one of those cold, miserable, and hazy days then do yourself a favor and step into Barnes and Noble and have a very relaxing experience. read more

This Barnes and Noble is convenient because it's close to my house but every time I go there to try and study they NEVER HAVE INTERNET SERVICE!!! i mean really? everywhere should have working wi-fi by now. Went here to buy a book (an actual real paper book). It was for my daughter. But we attended the story time while there. It was a good activity for my youngest and my oldest wasn't to overly bored as well. The staff were friendly enough and the store was well maintained. If I need to buy another book and I'm in the mood to actually see it before I would go here again. read more

I have always liked Barnes and Nobles. The stores are always clean and well organized. I don't go in very often but got a gift card for Christmas so stopped in. I have always enjoyed wandering around and looking at all the books and other items. One of the things I have always liked was that quiet wandering was relaxing. Sadly either I went at a bad time of day or else this store is turning into a place for stay at home moms to take their kids. It was sooooo noisy. Yelling kids. Screaming kids. Crying kids. I ended up buying a CD (and the man working in that department was very helpful). I ended up leaving after that because the noise was getting on my nerves too much. Too bad. read more

I am here often, and everythings usually okay, but I will say this: The cafe manager is extremely unfriendly and you can tell she hates customer service. I've never had a problem that needs addressing, but she is always scowling, and just cannot return a smile. The young employees at the cafe are friendly and helpful, but can be obnoxiously loud with their personal stories, and it can go on for over an hour without stopping. I'm glad they get along and are having fun, but the relentless high volume can be too much. I do my work while sitting here, and it can be extremely distracting. read more

I'll not be back to this store. Two rude employees in one visit equals finding a place with nicer employees to shop at. The first rude employee was working the center kiosk and I asked her a question about where to find a particular book. I was met with extreme sarcasm and told that "the non-fiction books are everywhere the fiction books are not". WOW, you don't say?? That was just after her eye roll and pathetic attempt at asking if she could help me just after ending a phone call (which she was equally rude with). I don't think the Christmas tree earrings were helping her Christmas spirit at all!! The cashier was just as spiteful when, without informing me first, she decided to give a different (lesser) percentage off after telling me I must have already used the coupon I presented. STRANGE when no one in my household has shopped at any Barnes & Noble online OR in person in more than a year!! Why couldn't she just ask if I had another coupon- I did!!! She didn't even apply the discount to the most expensive item like both coupons I had were for (and I double-checked to be sure the item was in fact eligible)!! Is this store closing or something?? Because the employees sure acted like it was either that or they had recently been told they were on their last paychecks, ever. Covid or not, attitudes here are ridiculous. Austin stores seem to suck in general- people get nastier by the second in this town- on the roads and in the stores. read more

Went today to look for a book on my way in the store a lady was coming out grabbing at her pants telling her husband that she felt like she was being bitten by bugs. Thinking it was odd I went on with my business and went inside and began looking around when I heard a lady explaining to the customer service person that she had visited them twice In the last couple weeks and spent some time reading each time but had gotten bitten by bugs each time she got home, she was very nice and was just simply trying to inform them that maybe they should have thier carpets cleaned. I thought back to the lady who I saw walking out of the store and I left the storw as fast as I could. I dont know if there is a problem there but I wasnt going to stick around any longer to find out. read more

Hmm I've seen some negative reviews about the employees and I'd have to disagree entirely. I've been coming here for a while, and every single employee I've chatted with has been kind, helpful, knowledgable, and passionate about what they do. The store always has a great selection of gift items and books, and always smells of fresh baked scones. I have to give this place 5 stars & yes I know it's a chain. Why? First let me state this disclaimer, I love books, always have, always will. The other reason is I have gotten 5 star service every time I have been here. Here's an example. Last week my 11 year old son tells me he has a list of books from school for summer reading. He has to read 2 and do a report before school resumes in order to be allowed into 7th grade in August. Well we searched his closet for hours (yes its that messy) and couldn't find the list from school. So we went to the school website & started writing down the book we thought were on the list, later to find out they weren't the right list anyway. I go to the counter to ask the clerk to help me find the book The Wish List & he has in his magic binder a photocopy of the exact same list my son misplaced. Woo Hoo, we are in business now. He loans me the list & we get our books. If only my son loved reading as much as me. They say it skips a generation. read more
