This bookstore is one of Austin's best hidden-in-plain-sight gems. It's tucked away just three blocks from downtown in a beautiful old two-story house that has been turned into a bookstore, wine bar, and coffee shop. Each room has its own type of books, along with original artwork, so it feels fun just wandering from room to room. There are plenty of places to sit inside, plus outdoor seating on both floors. If you head upstairs, you'll find a great view of downtown while you sip a glass of wine and flip through your newest book. The staff really know their books and their wine, and I love that you can walk around the store with your glass in hand while you browse. My only suggestion would be to add a small collection of vintage magazines. I'd probably never leave. read more

What a vibe! You walk in and the space is beautiful, tons of comfy chairs, couches, and tables for seating. Little alcoves where you can chill with your friends. TONS of books to peruse. We came in with a group and all got wine flights. So fun! Love a wine flight. Great first visit to Vintage. They have such a great selection of book, with plenty of caffeine and stronger brews to pair. Quite a bit of street parking and open seating to listen to local artists perform music, poetry, etc. (see attached photo, when they had Julie Mosher playing live). My book club met at Vintage Bookstore a few months ago, and I'm so glad we did. This place is a treasure. Housed in what looks like a beautifully repurposed building from the 1930s (though I haven't confirmed that), the space exudes character and charm. It's like leaving our living room to go to another comfy living room but with more wine and books than I have at home. This is Austin's first independent wine and book shop. That's rad. I'm all about supporting small, locally-owned businesses as much as humanly possible. They've got a book club that I'm thinking about checking out. The decor is really thoughtfully put together and each room has a name like the study, parlor, and so on. The wine offerings pair nicely with literally every book they have. This place has been on my bucket list for a while. I had some time to kill before Hot Summer Nights festivities began in the Red River Cultural District, so took a quick walk from Jo's Coffee on Sabine to East 11th. It's located on a cute & quirky up-and-coming street where Austin's famous Franklin BBQ is as well. They are next door neighbors to Radio's Rosewood store, another city landmark. I enjoyed walking through the bookstore to explore all the rooms & book genre options. There's a good selection of fiction books, I wish there were more nonfiction/career related ones. I ended up sitting at one of the small tables near the entrance with a view of the bar/service area. I read bits of one book, and later purchased two rings from their "gifts" table. Sadly, one of the flowers has already fallen off one of the rings so I'll have to self-repair it. I would love to come back for an author event and also to purchase actual books! read more

It was very calming in early afternoon and a lot more approachable to take in a smaller amount of books. I have some general feedback - while I appreciated the area, I did wish that there was sort of a map pointing out where general sections were (I had to ask where the cookbooks were, which was in the back room. It was a very limited selection). And, because of the limited selections, sometimes I would pick up a book out of curiosity and find it was the 3rd in a series, but none of the previous books were available to purchase! Went here for a peaceful book retreat on a Sunday and I got a parking right outside the store. The store was bubbling with vintage aesthetics. I was in a little book crawl with my niece and Vintage bookstore was stop number #2. What I loved about the place immediately is that the country as a whole needs more beer/wine bookstores. It would make life a better place. So I want to first and foremost say thank you. The store has a wonderful selection of fiction books and even blind date with a book based on your zodiac sign. They also have Sub sections where each room has a genre and I loved how it makes you feel like you are chilling at someones cozy home with a vast library. You can easily spend hours just browsing through the books that they have. Now, the only downside is the very short selection of kid's books. My niece was not able to find a book for her. But to be fair, it is in fact a wine bar and a bookstore so it may not be suitable to bring my niece at night time. So that's on me. But, I am glad they have a short section to begin with, in case someone wants to purchase a gift for a little one. Apparently, according to another yelper. They also had an upstairs room. This was my first time here. When we arrived, there was a musician performing, and the main room was packed. After he finished, there was more area to explore. In addition to the main room, there are small rooms off of it with additional book selections, all divided by genres. I was a little disappointed in the small amount of science fiction, but the fantasy selection made up for it for me. I had a glass of Forls Gerwurztraminer [Rogue Valley, OR] while I browsed. It was refreshing and lightly sweet. Of course I left with a new book and a new sticker to add to my collection. Definitely a fun, chill place to visit on a Friday night. Probably the coolest bookstore anywhere! Right as you walk in, you'll see the full bar and large sofa, which are surrounded by bookcases along the other 3 walls. There are a few other rooms in this house-turned-bookstore, including the upstairs rooms where they store the used books, and the encased rare ones. Cute little bookstore/wineshop in East Austin! I've been meaning to stop by for the last 2 years but never made it over until now. The vibes inside are great - tons of little rooms full of different seating options! Taking off a star just because of the prices. There's a pretty significant markup on drinks and books. Cutest place EVER! So many little nooks filled with books to explore. There are cute souvenir/gift options. I ordered the wine flight with 3 options for $18. I had never heard of the brand Boxt, but the wine is delicious. There were books there in every genre. Sometimes when exploring book stores, I don't feel like there are books there that represent my culture but I was happy to see inclusivity in this place. Such a cute and lovely experience! The wine bar is located in an antique building and is nested within a bookstore/art gallery. Parking was convenient in the neighborhood which is not a far walk. I love how there are various rooms for seating which created a unique, museum-like experience. I ordered a gin mocktail as I forgot my ID inconveniently. It was delicious and very refreshing on the sweeter side. A bit on the pricier side, but you pay for the experience. One of the classiest experiences in Austin. A wine bar book store combo on the chic New East Side. I totally love the place - and it is not the kind of place I usually love. * * * In theory, I am not big on the wine bar book store combo idea. I take my book stores seriously. I don't go there to linger and read. I go there to acquire. I go there with a shopping list. I know what I am trying to accomplish. I get my books and get out because I have stuff to do. As a bookstore, Vintage does not stock enough serious poetry, serious history or serious global south fiction to hold my interest. I am not big on wine bars either. I am a whiskey drinker. Wines are treacherous the way random dating is treacherous. You are making an expensive investment and you never know what you are going to get. Whiskey. Once good. Always good. * * * Vintage just melted my resistance the way a Jane Austen heroine captures the mind and heart of the eligible bachelor in question. a) The place is beautiful. It is an two-story many room quirky old house. Fine wood trim, grace and charm. Lots and lots of nooks and crannies with odd courtyards and corridors that lead to unexpected places. It is not technically a wainscotting and frosted glass establishment ... But you feel as refined as if it were a wainscotting and frosted glass establishment. b) The bar offerings are slim but are supremely well chosen. In particular, they have found one obscure but well chosen amaro variant and another obscure but well chosen floral liqueur that they use as the basis for many of their drinks. Very very very good calls. They do spritzers unlike any of the spritzers I have had in my life. The amaro spritzer completely commanded my interest. It slowed me down. It put me in the mentality where spending an hour or three reading poetry or literature just seemed like an admirable idea. c) The book selection is superb for browsing. For long term reading and acquisition, there were different books I would have been looking for. But for an afternoon of literary pleasure right now, the choices were superb. Being a great books fan, I gravitated to the literary classics room. I was rewarded for my search efforts. On the same shelf - three books away from each other - was both James Joyce's Ulysses - which I could have continued right where I am currently reading at the Cyclops chapter - or Emily Dickinson who is always engaging , worthy of thought and reflection. (I have long owned both of those and don't need to buy them at bookstores.) The Cyclops chapter takes place in a nasty bar with brutish bullies. Cheap swill beer would have been the beverage of choice. Emily Dickinson was a better choice for an amaro spritzer. I got a lot of Emily Dickinson read that afternoon. Time passed. That time was happy. * * * Emily Dickinson says "Hope has feathers". So does an afternoon at Vintage. read more

The women behind the bar were knowledgeable about their wine choices and helped us pick out a great bottle option for our visit. We ended up staying for many hours in a small side room we were able to have all to ourselves for quite some time. Location is close to plenty of street parking and other establishments. I didn't know that they had a patio/outside area until I came here to review so I'll have to check that out next time! Love that there are so many rooms to spend time in. Gorgeous vintage looking furniture and tall beautiful dark brown bookcases contrasted with colorful/patterned wallpaper and rug accents. Feels like you are in a cozy library. I also saw on Instagram that they do lots of events and book talks and even have a book club! 4 of 5 for me because of how loud and packed it gets in the main room where most of the book browsing is as well as variation of book choices. We went later in the afternoon into early evening and people were standing in front of all of the cases visiting and drinking but not looking or talking about the books at all, just in the way of customers wanting to look at things to purchase instead of taking seats somewhere or moving into the other rooms to have conversations. In the future I'll visit earlier in the day and away from the happy hour/ after work-esc customers just there for drinks in a cute location. The selection of books is very intelligently curated for this demographic. Mostly new releases and focus on specific genres or styles. If I'm ever looking for a new release I'll definitely be checking here to support them. What a neat bookstore!! It's off 11th St, just across the street from Franklin's BBQ. They had small bites to order from like a charcuterie board to pair with their wines.
