Our favorite part of the bookstore is probably the toy section at the back of the first level where your kid and inner kid can make their birthday wish list. The staff here is always friendly. I love this location of Barnes & Noble. There is always a great selection of books. Its clean and have a little coffee and snack shop off to the side where you can enjoy a coffee and use your laptop to catch up on some work. If there is a book that you want that's out of stock they can order it,and have to pick up in the next couple of days. When I visit, there's always a good find. read more

We were driving by, and noticed Barnes and Noble nearby so we pulled into the parking lot and noticed plenty of parking so I pulled into the parking lot, not very busy, we parked and came into B&N I love this bookstore one of the few real book stores around. So many mom-and-pop stores have closed. This is one of the few still around. If anyone is looking for a book or magazines, please support your local bookstore instead of ordering online. If they don't have what you're looking for they can order it for you. This Barnes and Noble is big they have upstairs and downstairs, some kids' toys, and books, so many books you have to find one that you like. Thankfully, I don't have to deal with the parking situation since I work close by and can walk here. However, I can see how that could be an issue for others. I've been coming to this Barnes & Noble for a long time -- honestly at least once or twice a week. I love reading, collecting books, and spending time in bookstores, so this location has become one of my favorite places over the years. Spanish is my first language, and one thing I always appreciated was their Spanish books section. I know that section extremely well, to the point where I can practically tell you where every category used to be. That's why I was genuinely disappointed during my last visit. Out of what used to be the Spanish section, about one entire shelving area was completely empty, and most of the remaining shelves had been replaced with books in English, even though the signs and category tags still said "Libros en Español." At this point, only a small portion actually contains Spanish books. When I asked about it, I was told the Spanish books were "still there," but that completely missed the point. The issue isn't whether a few Spanish books remain -- it's that a section that once felt intentional and welcoming now feels reduced and neglected. As someone who visits constantly and truly values bookstores, I really hope Barnes & Noble continues investing in Spanish-language readers and communities instead of quietly shrinking the selection. read more

Barnes & Noble in Torrance is located on the same land as the De Lamo Mall. You can see the building from Hawthorne Blvd. This location is two stories and much to explore. Pros 1. Large location. 2. Welcoming staff. 3. Large variety of Legos including some hard to find sets. 4. Large Harry Potter section full of books and knick knacks (some cool stuff). Cons 1. The parking lot is shared since this location is in close proximity to the mall. Parking can be challenging during peak hours and weekends. I wish we had more book stores. Barnes & Nobles have been around since 1873. First started out in Charles Barnes home. First store opened in 1917 by his son in New York City. The Barnes family is doing something right. This Barnes & Noble is huge and really nice. Unfortunately, parking can be a nightmare since this B&N is located right in the parking lot of Del Amo Mall. So crazy busy with the parking situation. I ordered a book for my son online for store pick up. Convenient. There was a short line when we arrived. They asked to check my email with the barcode from the online order and then I was done. The good: I came because my aunt gave me gift cards for this place. It's massive and I didn't even get a chance to go to their upstairs area. I could have browsed around for hours. They have a cafe downstairs too. I had no idea that their kids toy section was so massive. They had a sale section, tons of stationary, great kids books, and really appealing book displays and organization. I easily found parking when I came right before they opened. The bad: The toys were more expensive than you could get on Amazon (sometimes by even $12) . The interesting: The original store was in NYC. read more

I arrived at the store before it opened to try and purchase a Dodgers World Series newspaper. Others had the same idea, so we formed a line. When the manager or the help desk lady opened the door, she informed us that this location does not sell newspapers. I checked the store shelves, but there were none. It's a solid Barnes & Noble location. It's located in the Del Amo Fashion Mall parking lot. 2 stories and there's a cafe inside. As many B&N are now, it's mostly a gift/toy shop if anything, but looks like there's a decent amount of books and the workers are keeping on top of what is trendy now aka BOOKTOK suggestions. Bathrooms were not disgusting, but not the greatest either to be honest. Also nothing against this location but I gotta talk with the workers who are in charge of the suggestions in the manga section. Either you yourself are a casual or you're trying to appeal to more normies or casuals out there, but all of the suggestions were either already known series aka Sailor Moon/Death Note or the big shonen/seinen series that already have anime adaptations aka Demon Slayer, Kaguya-sama, Rent a GF (lord help us), etc. PLEASE I AM ON MY KNEES BEGGING, CRYING, & THROWING UP. Came here 3/27 (checked out 12:39) to find pokemon cards for my children. I called ahead and one worker said they'll be getting them in 20 min. Arrived and asked if they had them and the one nice worker said yes and to wait around for 10 min. My husband and I both came since we've been on the hunt for weeks trying to secure some cards for our 3 kids and it's my son's birthday this weekend. Obviously not scalpers... anyways.. went up to the counter around the time she said to come back and another worker was there. She said they don't have any pokemon cards and I said another lady said they did and to come back.. she got pissed and went on the radio asking annoyed WHO SAID THAT WHO TOLD SOMEONE WE HAVE THEM?! No one replied. I thought oh crap hope I didn't get anyone in trouble. She kept on saying well I don't know who told you, but I guess you can check in a little. A bunch of people were coming in and I can see how it can be annoying, but I was trying my best not to bug and she didn't need to have a rude tone with me. So whatever people started forming around and my husband and I were the first ones there and they told us all to form a line outside. We were the first in line with our daughter and everyone knew that. We waited about 45 min then they started telling everyone to come in. We got up to the counter and my husband and I went to different cashiers and she started raising her voice saying we're not allowed and one of us needs to go to the back of the line all rudely. I thought she was joking at first. She was like ITS ONLY ONE PERSON and I'm like each of us is a person??? We both want stuff and have been waiting in line for a long time... don't remember exactly what she said, but she was going off and asking the dude working the other cashier if they should allow this and he's like yeah idk.. she's like I guess we'll make an exception and was all pissed... like girl an exception for what??? You guys said a certain amount per customer and we're each our own customer lol.. It didn't make any sense.... Why would one of us go to the back of the line when we were both lined up the longest out of anyone? Nice location and very friendly staff. Parking is hit and miss since it's located adjacent to large Dell Amo mall - but I've never had a problem finding a space. The store is laid out very well with categories excellently displayed. I had zero problem finding exactly what I wanted. They are a little pushing trying to sell premium memberships. Saying "not interest" often is followed by "but you get 10% off." Of I was interested they wouldn't have to ask me. Otherwise I appreciate the cleanliness and presentation of the store. Walking into a Barnes & Noble is reminiscent of my adolescent years as this was the spot to study with friends. I had a few hours of work before an event and this was very conveniently located. This B&N is quite large with escalators to get to the second floor. Started with getting a matcha latte at the inside Starbucks where the barista recommended a shot of vanilla. Very tasty, but maybe I would only do a half pump next time as it was a little sweet. I go up the escalators to find a spot to sit and to my dismay there are no tables. There are some chairs dispersed against the wall but no tables. There is also a nice patio space, but since it was raining a bit, it wasn't opened. I headed back down to the Starbucks area and was able to grab a seat there to work which ended up working out just fine. I ended my B&N visit with looking over the games available and walked out with a new version of Cards Against Humanity. read more

We were in the cashier counter to look for the Anime toyms behind it, suddenly no eye contact, no please saying excuse me with us just swept us off that we need to move to the next counter. I understand it's pricey but they have to think a strategy of placement. I used to come here many years ago before I had my son. Always bought my favorite thriller/suspense/mystery genre books. Now my son and I love going to this book store together because it's huge and they always have books that he likes. We usually walk around the top floor in the kids section and pick out several books. Go find a spot to sit down, usually on the "stage" area or if there's no space there then we just plop down in a corner. Read, talk, chill, look for more books, and repeat. Go downstairs and check out their board games and such and always end up leaving with at least 2 books. We can easily kill an hour here. They also have a Starbucks inside. Just a fyi. We've been coming here since my son was a little baby and back then parking was never an issue. Then Del Amo decided to upgrade and now this place is jam packed especially on the weekends so it's hard finding parking unless you get lucky. You'll find one... but it'll just be in the parking structure down yonder. The BEST part though... that SMELL when you first walk into a book store. Ughhh, it's literal heaven!! There is a lot to like and a lot to dislike here. I'll start with the "dislike" parts and then move to "like" and end on a positive note. :D It's very difficult to find parking because of the mall it is located next to. Good luck. The lot is difficult to navigate, the rows and spaces are tight, and it's packed. I know this is a weird thing to note but the escalator is scary. Super jerky, I definitely felt like I could fall at any moment even though I was holding the railing. This B&N is in sort of a not-great area and many of the patrons completely matched what I would expect based on the area. The first thing I heard when I walked in was a full volume conversation between a young woman and man and she said the words "motherf***er" and "f***ed" really loud. I cuss myself quite a bit. But not aloud in a public space where there are kids around and in an environment that is by nature meant to be tranquil. I get that the store isn't responsible, but there were multiple such people in the store, so that is the environment you will get regardless of fault. And that might matter to people who consider going here. Generally this location is louder than any other B&N location I've been to, with the exception of the one in Victorville (no explanation needed there). The music is loud, the customers are loud. It's just not a relaxing or pleasant experience. The organization of books is not what I'm used to and do not make sense or flow well to me. It was a bit confusing to navigate. The shelves in the YA and Horror section are taller than those in other sections and the top shelf is so high that there is no way you'd be able to reach anything unless you're at least 5'8 or taller. The shelves are so high that I could barely even make out what was on the top shelf. If they had a step stool to use, this would not be a problem but they don't. Associates here appear to be less friendly than associates at other B&N locations I frequent. I didn't run into anyone out and out rude but they are just kind of cold and not very responsive. Kind of weird but I imagine if I worked in a bookstore and had to be at this noisy, semi-trashy location I guess I'd possibly be grouchy too. This location has a really great assortment of jigsaw puzzles, and the way the puzzles are displayed makes it super easy to see what they have without having to dig through shelves to see what is hiding in the back. I buy a puzzle just about every time I go to a B&N, so to me this was a pleasant surprise. This location definitely has more variety and a better selection of books than most B&N locations I've been to. I saw many titles that I have searched for at other locations without success. It was definitely nice to have access to a wider array of authors and classics than I usually see! This location is such a mixed bag of positives and negatives. For variety of content, I would give it five stars. For location and atmosphere, two stars. For associates and setup, three stars. So overall I am giving three stars although it's probably closer to a 2.5. I will not likely come back to this location unless I have no other options. read more

I went there to study with 2 of my friends. We were going to study in the Starbucks but there was not outlets to charge our laptops, so we asked the Starbucks worker if they have any outlets and they said there is outlets scattered in the library. We found an outlet and we were studying on the floor. A lady comes up to us and says "You guys need to move now, we don't want you sitting here." We were all shocked cause she said that to us very aggressively. We started packing our belongings, then another lady comes by and says, "You guys aren't allowed to use the outlets, go to the Starbucks." She is telling us then when you can clearly see we were about to leave. The workers were just overall rude to us and could have approached us in a nicer way. read more

This is a 2019 review of a retailer who is one of the last brick and mortar stores standing after the demise of Borders, Crown, Walden, and other book stores. It's a virtual library of new releases and magazines to come to read, browse and shop to buy. There's a starbucks coffee shop inside. They have a good selection of books and magazines. The restrooms are clean. They now carry toys and novelties. There's a huge selection for children / kids as well as comic book graphic novels and trade paperbacks along with the standard categories of books. We have to support stores like this and refrain from Amazon and other online retailers otherwise these stores will disappear and go out of business. Parking is easy, this is located at the Del Amo Mall in Torrance. read more

Me: Can I check out here? (pointing at the magazine I was purchasing) Employee: *Stares at me* Me: *I repeated the question* Employee: *No response* Takes the bar code reader to my magazine Me: I guess that's a yes? Went here earlier today and for some reason i felt like i was being followed or should i say "profiled" by an employee. When i shop, i take my time and spend few mins longer than your usual shopper who just goes in and out of the store m. I want to make sure i buy the right items. I was upstairs looking for tarot cards and noticed an employee "restocking the shelf" near me. I went downstairs with the items i chose, went back to the clearance section going through the tarot books, and guess who was in the same area/section AGAIN, the same employee "pretending to fix and rearrange the merchandise"! In my mind i was like dude, you may think i don't know what you're thinking but i do! Cause my senses told me! Out of all the shoppers in the store you decide to come to me, intimidate me and ask "do you need help looking or you're just browsing for now?" The tarot books are obviously in front of me you don't have to tell me where it is or pretending to tell me! Like stop it already i know what you're trying to do here! Not every customer with a damn tote bag is a potential shoplifter! Put your eyes somewhere else where real shoplifters are! I work in retail and i know employees' tactics when it comes to spotting a shoplifter! I definitely felt so uncomfortable and rushed! Not a good experience here! read more

If you're able to find a parking space, this is a pretty nice Barnes and Noble just adjacent to the Del Amo Mall. I stopped in over the holidays to get some gift cards and they had a promotion going on for a bonus card with a minimum gift card purchase. That came in handy since my niece in Hawaii loves B&N and letting her select her own books makes shopping a breeze. The day after Christmas is a great time to pick up your calendars at 50% off. I was unable to find the one that I wanted and they were able to order it for me online for pickup at the store later (without additional shipping charges). There's a second level upstairs with more books and a children's section. It was fun to browse and I saw a number of people making themselves comfortable on the floor. I hope this brick and mortar B&N is here to stay. Although I have a kindle, I prefer reading real books! read more

I used to go in Barnes and Noble in high school but haven't been there in a while, so decided to go in. They used to have fun, interesting titles front and center so it used to be fun to browse, but now they have a large "current affairs" section front and center that is nothing but propaganda. Political books are good and they were always there, but not like this. There used to be cool books from all genres in these displays - Art, science, engineering, fiction, history, self-help, etc. Now it's almost all one-sided political junk. Not one negative book about a democrat, not one positive book about a republican, not one book about economics, and not one positive book about America. Why not throw a copy of Blackout by Candice Owens, Don Jr's book, Ben Shapiro's books or "Economics in one lesson" up there to balance it out? It was like shopping in CNN's gift shop. Very scary to see how far propaganda has gone in our country. read more
