It's an alright Book Off. Interesting that this location is split between 2 floors in 2 different directions, but one is more for books and some small physical goods and the other one is more for electronics, DVDs, CDs, etc. Many of the books are available for $1 or at a heavily discounted price or deal, same with the limited anime goods they have here. If you're in the market for some cheap physical books or thrifting, not a bad place to stop but I have a bigger preference for the Book Offs in Riverside and sometimes Costa Mesa for their more extensive anime goods section.

Ever since I first discovered the Book-Off chain in Tokyo, I have been a fan of these stores…read more Basically, they offer a whole lot of books: i.e., the name, Book-Off. But, this is not all they offer. They also offer a lot of other things, depending on the location. Just as is the case with the stores around Tokyo, each Book-Off is somewhat different in their offerings. This Book-Off is no different. Over the many years that this Book-Off has been in business, it has witnessed an evolution in what they offer for sale. When they first opened, their basic commodity was books, and music, mostly via CDs, along with some movies on VHS and DVD. They also offered various computer games. Over the years these items have changed. At this location, their primary focus has remained on books, but they have also expanded. There has been periods of time when they even offered things like musical instruments. You'd walk by, look in their front window, and they'd have guitars hanging there. I think this is the great thing about the Book-Off stores. They are each unique locations, and though they do focus on books, each store is a very unique entity onto itself, offering a unique collection of which only that particular location focuses upon. As I write this review, what they're offering is books, CDs, DVDs, PC games, some PC controllers, and a little bit of everything else. In some ways, you never really know what you're going to find here, which makes this a fun shop to look into. This business is located on the lower level of the Del Amo Mall. It's close to stores like JCPenney's. So, it's never hard to find. It's right over by the escalators for those of you who know the mall. So, if you're looking for a book, some music, maybe a PC game, or maybe something else that you never knew that they would be offering, this may be your place to find it.

Super cute store! I haven't visited one in awhile, but this one in Torrance, though small, is…read morepacked with lots of unique Japanese goodies. There's houseware, beauty products of all kinds and collectibles like blind boxes and kawaii plushies. Everything is a bit pricey, but considering the quality and unique imported items, it's expected. Online ordering for pick-up was a cinch; they got a specialty manga shipped within days and held it for me for over a week (just make sure you call in if you can't pick up in 7 days just in case). The website isn't the best, but it's usable if you know what you're looking for. Would come back if I wanted to order a specific item or wanted some unique gifts or beauty products. On busy days, it can get cramped fast in that little store, so be prepared.

I don't really browse much anymore; I just bring them the ISBN and they take care of everything. They're super fast, they email and call when the order comes in, and the books always show up in perfect condition. Since each Kinokuniya is basically its own franchise, every store has a different vibe. This one leans more toward stationery and gifts than a huge selection of Japanese books or magazines. It's a great date spot, but not really the place to dig for rare anime or manga collectibles. The space is smaller than some of the other LA locations, and with Animate nearby, they don't carry every item you might expect. If you want something specific, just order ahead and use their buying service--it's the move.

While I was purusing, I heard the sales associates helpiing others with book searches and book club information. It sounds like they have a number of book clubs going at the same time which makes me green with envy. Somebody please open a bookstore like this in Santa Clarita Valley, Ca.! At the time of my visit there was a children's reading event going on in the children's section. There were young adults picking out their spring break reads. There is also a courtyard and coffee shop somewhat attached. I did not try the coffee, but will the next time I am in Manhattan Beach. This is a charming bookstore, well designed, with sooo many staff picks and recommendations. Make sure to pay them a visit when you are in the area. And if you live close by, I hate you :) I paid to park on the street very close to the shop, however there may be other parking I am not sure. Happy Reading!

The staff are so helpful in finding exactly what you need and chatting about the books, or letting you browse quietly if that's what you'd prefer. Me and my grandfather before he passed away at 91 used to come to Gardena when I was a little kid…read moreand I used to go here a lot. Today, I decided to make a review. This store had my favorite Japanese enka cds I used to listen to in the car, I don't see them in here today. Now I see labubu, anime books and tv show tapes and anime toys. I also saw a ton of movies in dvd form like blue ray and 4k he collections. I bought straw dogs today and looked around a lot. They had a nice environment. Similar to GameStop but cleaner and friendlier staff. All Japanese staff and the people in Gardena are also Asian. Some nerdy fellas also went to look and Nintendo switch games. I'm talking the top nerdy ones. Service was great and the environment is so pleasant I love the stuff in the store, you can't get it near where I live an hour away in Stevenson ranch Santa Clarita. Once every 10 years I'll try to come when I have time. But now more so since I'm finally on my own, but need someone to go with. Anyway life is short so live it to the fullest like my grandpa. He's with the gods now. As for enjoyment purposes, a lot of fan service. Waifus and fan service toys. Pretty solid price though but my cousin collects them and they collect dust so I don't think they will be good unless you like that sort of stuff but maintaining them is tough. Enjoyed the books too. They had explicit books with furries, not a fan of it but very interesting to say the least. I can't find other store that have these books and exclusive toys. Overall, I would love to shop here had they had one near where I live, I just happened to be around in the area today and remembered this place and wanted to drive by to take a look at how things changed here. For the most part, they keep up to date with the times. I remember back when beanie babies were sold here. Now labubus. Overall, if you come by Gardena area, make sure not to miss this hidden diamond. Even if you're not into Japanese stuff, a great place to observe products that can't be sold anywhere other than here and maybe some online retailers.

Pluses: This is probably one of the better Book Off locations. Good variety of secondhand items…read more(note - they do have a magazine section which isn't secondhand), numerous old manga, and for the record collectors, some noteworthy vinyl (not a big selection and it's predominantly Japanese pop music). The store does well as a retro game store although you may have better luck with their Little Tokyo location. This will not have the feel of a Goodwill. It's far better. Also, I came here to sell some old games dating back to PS2 era and got a decent quote. A bit surprised. NOTE - your own case may vary, and they didn't take everything. Surprisingly they didn't take some old DVD's sets I had and I didn't have many. Minuses: This isn't a retro game store and it shows. Not many old game consoles available (Hard-Off does, and I believe Hard Off, which is part of the Book Off chain, is Japan only for now). Also, be realistic with what you have. Not everything will be eligible to be resold. Many old books and old anime titles likely won't make it. Although my quote was higher than I expected they didn't take some anime I had from the early 2000s (not very popular). In short, Book Off Gardena should be a very decent place to find what you are looking for. Now I can only wish Book Off brings Hard Off to the U.S. so that we can buy old cameras!
