My expérience was mostly excellent but not at first. Very hard to make the initial contact. Once in a while office is very crowded with long wait but mostly on time. I went there for cataract surgery. My choice of Dr Carlos Diaz was without referral and à wonderful expérience. He is professional, caring , very meticulous and listened to all my concerns. So respectful yet diligent about his pré op requirements for my particular case. Hes very highly credentialed. Chose the best surgery for my eyes. The surgery center was very professional , caring and attentive to my needs right before surgery. Dr Diaz is so excellent that after each surgery I immediately had a clear correction of vision without any bruising redness or selling. Just leaving surgery that is. And so far my expérience with the optometrist Dr Olsen has also been wonderful. I had an optometrist in Fl for 30 years so the switch has not been easy. But I think he is also kind and caring and very professional. I will continue with him from now on if I can. So for anyone who wants an amazing cataract expérience, choose Dulaney Perkins and Dr Carlos Diaz for the best possible results. I relied on glasses then contacts for 55 years and now I have clear vision without any aid. A miracle. Thank you Dr Diaz. I had an appointment to check my eye pressures. When I got there the office's computers were down. They wrote all my information down to input to their computer system later. Lo and behold, I later got a bill for $700. I am covered by Medicare and so I called the office. They told me that there was a mistake made because their computers were down during my appointment and that they would take care of the bill as Medicare covered the visit. Imagine my surprise when I began to get calls from a collection agency because this office did NOT follow up and bill Medicare. I am beyond furious as this has affected my perfect credit score and I am considering getting my attorney involved. read more

I feel so fortunate to have a caring professional Doctor like Dr Hartzell. He has been monitoring and adjusting eye drops to the point of my eye pressure no longer threatening my loss of vision. This is in reference to the Green Valley office. My exam was not done by either of the Doctors. It was done by an unlicensed Technician, even though the appointment was clearly made due to an eye injury and concussion. Dr Bret Hartzell breezed into the room, never introduced himself, never addressed my reason for the appointment. He told me I had a cataract and to make an appointment in a month to get it scheduled. At the most he was in the room for 5 minutes. I found him totally unprofessional and would not go back. This is not the way to run an eye clinic. I am updating this review because of the criminal negligence of this doctor. When I called to make an appointment I clearly stated why I needed to be seen. I had suffered a concussion and not only was my vision effected, my eye was bulging, draining and was a serious eye injury. I am absolutely furious at the stupidity of this office. Last week I went back to the surgeon who has been caring for me, and he was shocked to hear my experience. He referred me to an ocular surgeon in Tucson, but my appointment is 5 weeks away. I really needed care and someone who is not an optometrist or ophthalmologist cannot examine eyes. IT IS ILLEGAL. I have discussed the situation with the Arizona Board, and they confirmed that the office worker who examined my eyes had no business doing so. She can put drops in my eyes, and that is it. When I called them with my urgent concerns regarding shingles near my eye, they did not hesitate to get me in at an office nearest to me that same day. I've had multiple eye surgeries for glaucoma & cataracts so it's no surprise that I suffer from severe dry eye. At my last BDP follow up appointment, I was kept waiting nearly two hours without explanation. My exam was cursory & I was out the door without the doctor doing more than waving a hand held light in front on my eyes without comment. I've better uses of my time & money not to mention needing confidence my glaucoma is well managed. I got a wind driven something in my eye. I tried everything to flush it out to no avail. Spend a torturous night with no sleep and lots of pain. I called in the morning and tols them what was going on. They made me a new patient and got me in that day. Dr Hartzell got it out before there was severe damage. Great place to go! read more

Difficult going through a complete dossier on oneself, primarily aimed at financial responsibility, taking about 20-30 minutes on first visit. Followup visits are preceded with a shorter version of that with more reassurance that one is financially responsible; this takes place as one confirms the appointment on-line. Once you've run the gammut, the testing and exam are very much shorter in duration and sustain the reason why one accepts the pain of adding to that dossier. read more

Last week, I went to Barnett, Dulaney, Perkins for an eye exam to get glasses. I saw you for the exam, Dr. Hartzell. The exam seemed shorter than those to which I am accustomed but I couldn't think what was missing so I didn't say anything. I worked with Becky to find glasses that I liked but decided to go home and think about the glasses I saw. Next day a young woman called to tell me I didn't take my prescription and I'd need to come pick it up. First off, her wording was that I forgot it, not that they forgot to give it to me. If they did hand it to me and I left it laying on the counter then why didn't they hand it to me while I was working with Becky? I was with her for the next 20 minutes or so. The next day I went back and picked up my prescription and looked at the glasses again. They just weren't what I wanted, so I went home to order the glasses I wanted online. The site asked for the pupillary distance (PD) from the prescription, but I couldn't find it. So I called Barnett, Dulaney, Perkins and was informed that they don't do that, but that they could - for free! - if I came back over. Today I went back and saw Becky again to get the PD. She seemed perturbed and said that she would have done it had I ordered glasses from them. She dropped the machine she was going to use to measure the PD, picked it up, but didn't even check to make sure it was working correctly. Then she rammed it against the bridge of my nose, but kind of low, and gave me a number. She said, "It's 64, but I have no idea how those companies work." Previously she had told me she ahs been in the business for 20 years! I asked if it needed to be written on a prescription form and she said no they don't do it that way. She was clearly aggravated with me that I wasn't purchasing my glasses there. They should have made it clear that they expect all clients to purchase glasses at their place BEFORE the exam and then they should do the complete exam. What a difficult process that was. It took three trips to their office and being made out to be bad and wrong to get a complete prescription. Now I'm going to go try to order the glasses. I hope this prescription is correct! read more

This review is about their SYSTEMS. I had successful cataract surgery earlier this year and a scheduled follow up was due. I received an email to confirm or cancel my appointment; I hit the cancel button by mistake and could not contact the office to leave a message. Called their number and waited on hold, then requested an automatic call back. This happened twice the next day and then I tried to reschedule on-line. Each of the call backs came when I was on another call or quite awhile after I left the request. I called again, waited, made an appointment for a month out as my appointment was already scheduled for someone else. I asked for a manager to call me back. There is no way to leave a message; I conclude that they will not hire enough people to answer calls (each hold time was 5-10 mins +). Contacting the office was much easer during summer as I imagine winter visitors do cause an up tick in business, but not being able to contact the office is unreasonable. While the doctors were all excellent, the frustration in trying to correct an electronic mistake was crazy-making. I'm looking for a new eye clinic. read more

Be prepared to be ignored. Took my friend to look at glasses. The woman who works in the late afternoon was on the phone in the rear of the store. She turned to look at us, turned her back to us, and proceeded to continue to talk on the phone. In the past 10 years I have been going to Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Institute. It has been Dr. Hartzell that helps me every time. I have had many tests I have had my vision improved through my glasses and I would recommend him to any and everyone! In the Green Valley office, there is always a cheery attitude by all the workers, and Dr. Hartzell himself makes me feel so comfortable that is one of the medical offices I look forward to being in. My One objection is that they charge to have your prescription in writing to walk out the door rather than have your glasses made there in the office. read more

This was the worst eye care establishment I have ever been to! After my eye exam & contact lens fitting I had to go back to the doctor, Dr. Brent Haetzell, 5 times within 5 months. First of all, I have been wearing contacts for 35 years and have never had to go back to a doctor so many times. The first time it went back because my lenses were not fitting on my eye properly. When I got to the office and discussed this with the doctor he told me they don't actually measure my eye and do a contact lens fitting. Instead they base it on an average of how other peoples contacts fit. WT???Basically, they charge my insurance company for services they didn't do and on top of that the doctor got mad at me for questioning him about this. That was a red flag!! The doctor should never get upset with a patient, especially when the doctor is at fault. Second, the doctor continued to tell me he didn't understand why I couldn't see better once they order new lenses with the correct base curve. Then he proceeded to tell me the problem was due to "dry eye" and I would need to see them again for another follow up. This was done three additional times after my initial visit. All of this should have been taken care of within 2 visits (initial exam and the follow up). 5 visits is ridiculous!!!! believe this was done so they could continually charge my insurance company for services they don't actually provide. On a positive note, Kirsten, who is in charge of ordering contact lenses and glasses is very good at her job and Arianna at the front desk is also very helpful. Other than that, I would not recommend this facility to anyone, EVER and I will not be returning!! read more

I Called Barnet Dulaney for an appointment concerning my worsening cataracts. I had seen an Optometrist at another practice back in mid-December who suggested I try a different glass prescription first instead of surgery. The new glasses didn't work and I called Barnet Dulaney to schedule an appointment with an Ophthalmologist. It took nearly 5 weeks to get an appointment for DR Hartzell who I thought was an Ophthalmologist. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that DR Hartzell was an Optometrist. I went through the same entire eye exam I had gone through back in December except this time DR Hartzell said my blurred vision was due to dry eyes and not my cataracts. He prescribed a specific brand of eye drops to be used multiple times daily. I went that day and purchased the recommended drops and immediately started using them. By the third day my eyes were extremely painful and uncomfortable. I switched back to my old eye drops and the pain went away. I called Barnet Dulaney back to try and schedule with an actual Ophthalmologist (that took 6 days and multiple phone calls). They scheduled me for an appointment up in Tucson. After checking further I found out that the only specialist they have is Southern Arizona has to cover 5 offices! Barnet Dulany Perkins is a complete failure when it comes to anything other than prescribing glasses. I strongly recommend you look elsewhere if you have any eye issues that require professional help. read more

I've had two experiences with these guys. Neither was a good result and I won't be headed back. The first was in July 2017. I needed an eye exam. They have their techs do most of the work and Dr. Hartzell did what I would call a cursory check. He gave me a new prescription. I used that to buy two new pairs of glasses at Costco. For some reason I just couldn't see very well with them. I waited thinking maybe I needed to get used to them, but no change. I went back to see Dr. Hartzell in October. Again the tech checked me and said "oh, you've shifted." I think that was code for we screwed up the first time around. The Dr. checked me and told me I was different. He actually sat there and said, "I can't understand why." Strangely the October prescription was very near my prescription from my old glasses prior to the July new prescription. The doctor then suggested I take the October prescription and talk to Costco about a free replacement. Now why would Costco give me a free replacement when they cut the new lenses to the July prescription provided by Dr. Hartzell (which his techs verified by checking my new glasses)? So, I went to a second OD and had my prescription checked. Imagine when it matched my October prescription from Dr. Hartzell. Costco was very gracious and did replace my lenses for free without me even having to ask though they had no obligation to do so. So, here's my take..... (1) I've been wearing glasses for 40+ years and have never had a doctor screw up the prescription, (2) Hartzell's office relies entirely to much on techs without proper oversight, (3) Hartzell's office apparently doesn't stand behind their medical work. Beware if you use Barnet, Dulaney & Perkins, and especially Dr. Hartzell for your eye care. I know I'll never go back!! read more
