This was the worst experience I've ever had at an eye doctor. My appointment has been scheduled and confirmed for several weeks along with confirming my insurance coverage. When I arrived there was a huge line of people who were directed to a self service kiosk that created a lot of confusion / held up the line for guests requiring photos of drivers licenses and insurance cards. Meanwhile there were 4 women at the reception desk twiddling their thumbs staring at the line of elderly people trying to navigate the computer system. 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment and confirmation of my identity and insurance, I was called back and had some eye tests done. When I was navigated to the the exam room after a few minutes I was told that the service would not be covered by my insurance!!!! The woman herself said in her own words, "I'm so sorry -- I would be livid if I were you." I was. And I left. Unless you are looking for a DMV experience where you wait in huge lines with horrible customer experience and no process confirming insurance -- Please please don't go here!! read more

The doctors and technicians are amazing. Very thorough and very professional. However the office staff is lacking. There is no communication whatsoever. Patients arrive to appointments and are left waiting. We had an appointment today at 10:40 a.m. arrived 15 minutes early checked in. They were busy but moving steady. Before we knew it office was empty. 1 hour later we were still waiting to be seen. Finally called back, exam went well in and out within a few minutes. So why the hour wait!!!!! I had an appointment with Dr. Ooms in September 2021. Dr. Ooms discovered the cataracts in my eyes were causing my vision problem. Dr. Ooms informed me I needed to have surgery on my eyes. She told the technician to make a consultation appointment with Dr. Diaz, which was today. It seems Dr. Ooms' diagnosis is unacceptable. Even though she works in the same office, only Dr. Diaz could say if surgery is needed. My appointment today was a catastrophe! Guess they forgot about me. I had to remind them I was there. This was after checking in at noon. When taken into a room, a woman talked as if I knew I'd be having another eye exam complete with dilation. I said, "No, I'm here for a consultation." Again I was told only Dr. Diaz says if there's surgery or not. So I asked 2 questions: Why won't this office accept diagnosis' from within their own office, and why they didn't they say this in September when I saw Dr. Ooms? I told the lady I was not expecting another eye exam. I was told it was the only way. I explained I had an exam last month and what was happening was not what Dr. Ooms talked about with me. Then I explained I drove myself. The attitude was take it or leave it. I was told Diaz must do the examination himself. "It won't take long." She dilated my eyes and set me in the waiting room. As I sat in the waiting room, many others were still waiting. A man asked someone why they were so behind. The answer was that Dr. Diaz is just that good. Interesting. The woman next to me asked another person about her appointment, which was for an hour earlier. The woman was told that when you make an appointment with Dr. Diaz you are told to block out three hours of your time. Funny, the office didn't tell me that when making today's appointment. I got up and left. I then called my husband to leave work early because I couldn't see. I knew I could make it to my husband's place of work but it was extremely difficult. I'm sure Dr. Diaz is wonderful; however, there seems to be an elite attitude with staff. Dear Barnet Delany Dulany: I called my insurance and PCP. I see a new optometrist next Thursday. I went here for an evaluation of cataracts on the recommendation of my optometrist. They had a cancelation, so I was able to get in pretty quickly. Dr. Kusman did the examination and recommended surgery. The staff did all of the measurements and help me fill out the pre-op paperwork. In the next month I had surgery on my left eye and then the following week, the right eye. I am still have drops to put in everyday for a couple of weeks. Dr. Kusman was recommended to me by my parents and their friends. They had a great experience as did I. The staff and Dr. Kusman explain things thoroughly and work at making it as comfortable as possible. I cannot say enough about all of the staff. From the front office, to the examination and measurement staff, to the surgical staff they are all so professional and knowledgeable. In addition, they are very friendly making a scary procedure (at least for me) much easier to endure. I am loving the results and look forward to seeing the world with my "new eyes". If you need an Ophthalmologist, I would whole heartedly suggest checking them out. read more

This is a completely factual story and you are welcome to contact me for more details: DR. CARLOS DIAZ, DUE TO INADEQUATE SAFETY PROCEEDURES AT BARNET-DULANEY-PERKINS / AMERICAN VISION PARTNERS/ SOUTHWEST EYE CENTER AND PERHAPS HIS OWN NEGLIGNCE, IMPLANTED THE INCORRECT LENSES IN MY EYES. Although both Dr. Diaz and Barnet-Dulaney-Perkins / American Vision Partners / or Southwest Eye Center have admitted the error, they have done very little in to resolve the issue in a meaningful way. Thier attitude seems to be: YEAH, WE MADE A COMPLETELY NEGLIGENT ERROR, IT WAS TOTALLY OUR FAULT, SO WHAT??? Here are the details: During consultation for cataract surgery - and after the hard sell from their surgical consultant (salesperson) - I was persuaded to pay over $5,000 extra for advanced lenses and a "superior" procedure that that I was promised would provide the very best vision correction possible. WHEN THE SURGERY WAS PERFORMED, THEY IMPLANTED THE WRONG LENSES! Both Dr. Diaz and an outside consultant agree that it would be very risky to redo the surgery. Now I'm stuck for my entire lifetime with the consequences of their error. Although his is incredibly distressing, THERE IS MORE: I HAVE OBTAINED EVIDENCE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PATIENTS BEFORE ME ANY YET, PROCEEDURES TO PREVENT FUTURE OCCURANCES WERE NEVER PUT INTO PLACE! Unbelievable, but 100% true. I have been assured procedures have NOW (under threat of a lawsuit) been corrected, I'm still stuck with the results of their repeated earlier negligence. Barnet-Dulaney-Perkins / American Vision Partners / or Southwest Eye Center treat their patients like a moneymaking commodity; this place is a factory. Do what is right for you, but since my disastrous experience, I have found that there are many SUPERIOUR OPTIONS FOR THE SAME PRICE. FULL DISCLOSURE: A lawsuit is being prepared, since some companies just WON'T do the right thing on their own. Josh got me ready for Dr. Flores. This was my first time and a routine eye exam. I am assuming they do a significant amount of surgeries here because that was the first question I was greeted with upon arrival. Whatever happened to "hello (take a look at the sign-in sheet for my name), what time is your appointment?" I could have done without the sarcastic eye roll from the receptionist as a reaction to my confusion after being asked if I was there for surgery. Otherwise she was cordial. Prior to my arrival, over the phone, I asked the receptionist if I needed to arrive a few minutes early to fill out paper work. She said arriving early was not necessary and to arrive at the time of my scheduled appointment. Well, guess what? When I arrived, I had paper work to fill out. Josh was very attentive to my being a new patient. Made me feel like I had been coming there for years. Dr. Flores is very personable and was attentive to my concerns. My trips to southwestern Eye Center was a complete disaster I had to wait long past my appointment time, the girls were OK and the Dr was Ok.but when we set up a talk about what was planed for my surgery I was told a number of times there would be no charges. I would need to pay my insurance would cover 100% of bill except stigmatizm and I refused that procedure. The surgery did not help one bit, my phone went south I was told office manager would call ,that never happened next day visit was one hour late. Now I got a Bill in mail for 189.46 and told I will have another bill for anesthesiology. And the office stoped taking my calls I had planed to get my other eye done early January but that ain't going to happen I can't trust them with my eyes, if I can't trust them with my money O stars for them. read more

Years ago had wonderful cataract surgery with this eye center. Unfortunately this was not borne out with Medicare-covered glasses made by their optician center. A month after purchasing, noticed a slight interference with my vision which seems like a smudge. It turned out to be a tiny knick at the extreme upper-left curve of the right lens, under the frame, which began expanding only a day after noticing it. The regional manager defended his refusal to stand behind this defect because I hadn't purchased a warranty. Reliable products don't require a warranty to defend their quality. Apart from this, I received a bill charging three times for the single prescription for this order, as well as a partial charge for the Medicare billing. Suggest going elsewhere, as I will certainly do. read more

To get an appointment fast.!. To be seen was about 25 min. The staff and Dr. ok. The issue started when I forgot to mention the deal of $150 off per eye here in yelp. (I'll try to post a pic) I forgot to mention it to the receptionist, so I called "Mary" With a very rude tone, to say the least, she told me she didn't know what I was talking about. I offered to go back and show her. She said it didn't matter because she was the one in charge of all the specials; I insisted and went back to show her. Because of medication I was on, I had to go to them once a year for two years to make sure it wasn't affecting my eyes. since them for the last several years they keep harassing me telling me I have to make an appointment with them. I have called them repeatedly, and ask them to quit calling me, quit contacting me in any way shape or form! Since then I have now received a thing asking me to rate them. Very disappointed with this Southwestern Eye Center. I am very upset with the wait here and the unorganized facility. I have waited for over two hours and only saw the doctor for less than 3 mins. That is very unacceptable!. Why FIVE people behind me got seen and left the facility before me?? Waited one hour passed the appointment time to get the eye exam checked. I did the eye exam for 15 mins, then waited the doctor for another 45 mins. Finally they said because of my Insurance, they can't do anything. They can't even give me the prescription, even I want to pay for that. What's a wasted of my time! I am very uncomfortable with the procedures that they did on my eyes, and I do not want to do it again! I am willing to pay, why they do not give me the prescription??? I don't understand! The woman who ordered my contacts was incompetent and spent time chatting with coworkers and other patients instead of helping me. This place takes advantage of older adults on a limited income. I will be reporting this clinic and their Doctors to the BBB. My Mom received a bill for services never rendered. The bill was over $1000.00 and she had cancelled her appointment 2 weeks ahead of the laser appointment that she felt rushed into and then was forced to sign paperwork before they closed.
