I just put some salt and pepper on it and that helped a ton. The pickled beets were as expected - and I love beets! The platter also comes with a mini cornbread LOAF! Seriously, it's a good size mini. It was delicious, slightly sweet, and contained corn kernels. Also, a side of sliced pickles come with the platter and any sandwich. We were warned that they were spicy today and that was the truth! It was a bit over $40 for so much good food. We had to box up some of the food and it can definitely feed another person. Also, service was friendly and fast. I'd come back to try more items - probably including one of those baked goods :)

This is a dish I order frequently in NYC and Long Island, so maybe my standards are high, but the sauce was unusually sweet -- my great aunt noticed it immediately too. When I asked our server, (who was very good, professional, friendly and attentive), after waiting about 45 minutes, if we could just have our garlic bread, because we were extremely hungry now at 8:30pm, she said it was coming out soon but that she'd bring us some Italian bread, which we didn't want but we ate anyway. Our entrees took another 45 minutes to come out after we finished our appetizers. The food was good. The portions were large. It was just the extremely long wait time for the food that killed this place for us. After the meal, I politely and privately asked our server if there was anything that could be done to make up for the wait time. She asked the manager and came back out with a bottle of Sambuca and shot glasses. No one wanted that so we politely turned that away. Our server then asked if anyone wanted dessert or coffee. It was already about 9:45pm. We were tired from a long day and ready to get out of there, so everyone passed on dessert and coffee. Our server then came back with the check. No discount at all. So I politely said, "There was nothing that could be done about the wait?", and she said, "I can ask the manager again, but we offered you Sambuca and then dessert, which was going to be on the house, but you didn't want either." I said, "OK, yes, please ask the manager again." She came back and said, "The manager took off a round of drinks for you.", which I was pleased with. Bottom line - if you're a large party (more than 6), or if they have a large party ahead of you, don't eat here.

Maybe seeing as I had cash and had the Gas Cash Card in hand (and handy), maybe triggered them to see that I didn't pose a major threat to making the transaction be easy for them to complete. They didn't ask or remind me that I had a Speedy Rewards account I could use at the register, but I remembered the card just after handing them the Gas Cash Card and they completed the transaction smoothly. The money was added and I got a receipt as I asked. I went out and pumped. I had no real problems there. The ground still looks a little old and predates the Speedway pumps, but they work. The fact that the Walmart across the street helps, makes this place a go-to place when I'm in Catskill. I had been here before, but it had been a long time and this time was different : they didn't realize that this time it would be the experience I'd be reviewing about.

I believe the food is less than what you would expect from a 4 star eatery but my complaint is with the way customers concerns are handled. I am disabled so I order meals for delivery quite often. I do not concern myself with the cost of the food but expect go get quality food prepared the way I order it. If that does not happen I will call with my concerns. As I said I order quite often, I could not count the amount of times I have ordered from Barnwood. I was not satisfied with the food a handful of times but I will speak about the last two. On one occasion I ordered a chicken dish for my adult grandson. The white meat chicken pieces were loaded with chewy cartilage but he ate what he could. When I called I was told I should have saved the chicken to send back. So the next time there was a problem I are one bite, it was a steak I ordered cooked medium rare. It arrived book well, well done and very small. They did send another steak and this one was cooked perfect and almost twice the size of the first. So needless to say I was satisfied. The next time I called to order food I was told, in so many words, that my business is not longer welcome there and maybe I would be happier ordering from another establishment. This is one amazing restaurant to have in Greene County!! Everything we've had here has been superb, so much so that we have a hard time ordering every time we stop in... we want to try their new specials, but their everyday menu is always excellent too! The BBQ is expertly made, so the pulled pork and ribs are amazing. If you're there when they are making jalapeno poppers, GET THEM!! And don't even get me started on the fried chicken... it makes you crave fried chicken day and night, and no other place will do until you go back to the BBQ Barn/Good Eats. It is made fresh to order (like everything else on the menu), so it comes out hot, juicy, crispy, and it isn't overly battered. And the portion is huge for the price. It is the BEST fried chicken I have ever eaten! And as an added bonus, the staff are very friendly and seem to keep track of what the regular customer like/dislike (which makes for some amazing waitresses!)... recently we hadn't eaten here in a number of months, and yet, when we went back our regular waitress remembered us!
