    Chicken Penne Ala Vodka
    Tracy C.

We order from Angels East at least twice a week and they never disappoint!!! Food and service are both top notch. Tried the Chicken Penne Ala Vodka this time and it's amazing!!!!

Ordered from them for years place is going to hell. Chicken wings are smaller than my than my pinky for 18 dollars a dozen!!!

    Chicken Cesar wrap with bacon!

Very clean space, good vibe, and kind staff. Good space to stop to have a casual lunch. I ordered the chicken Cesar wrap, with fries. My boyfriend had the Italian wrap. They were good classic wraps. I loved that the chicken was warm (most wraps come cold). The bacon was well done, and cooked to perfection. Price was affordable. I did not order any of the Mexican specialities but they seem to be a hit. I also saw a lot of people ordering pizza. If I come back to visit again, I will most likely come back for a classic American meal.

Service throughout the meal was painfully slow. There were only two waitresses working the entire restaurant, including an outdoor patio area. They were doing their absolute best, but it was just too much for two people. One of the waitresses didn't seem too familiar with the table identification system. Whenever a dish came out from the kitchen, she'd ask several different tables if the dish was what they ordered, seemingly having no idea which food belonged to which party. This was pretty bizarre and inefficient. They apparently forgot about our order. We ordered nachos as an appetizer, but they didn't come out until after our entrees arrived so we didn't end up keeping them. They did provide complimentary chips and black bean dip, so we at least had something to munch on during the long wait. We saw several tables that received no service at all, and folks had to get up to ask for their check and pay, because the waitresses were just too busy to stop by the tables. For an entree, I had the veggie tacos. The veggies included squash, zucchini, and onions. An order came with three tacos, as well as red and green salsa, black bean dip, and rice. The rice was mushy and the black bean dip wasn't super flavorful. The tacos were okay, but made better by a dousing of habanero hot sauce. My husband also got a horchata beverage and enjoyed it. I felt bad for the waitresses, as there was only so much they could do. In addition to serving, they bussed the tables, prepared the drinks, and served as hostesses. The food could've been better, but the service really tanked the experience.

Since they are already finalists, according to James Beard, I'll spend this review explaining more…read morewhy I only gave it three stars. The food in general was well prepared, delicious and certainly had a sophisticated knowledge of spicing in flavoring. But it's more the minor details that stops an experience from being a really wonderful one. So here are some details, you may think I'm crazy or you may relate. The first was coffee: they didn't have decaf and they don't have half-and-half. I'm not going to speculate why, but for quite a few of us decaf is a true pleasure and it'd be nice to have that available. To the waitresses credit she offered to bring me milk and cream, so I could make my own half-and-half? That was a first! The second was the hot chocolate: the actual hot chocolate was quite delicious, Mexican style with some cinnamon. But it was topped with a mountain of whipped cream and some small crunchy pieces. I think it's pretty standard nowadays that when you're going to top a drink like that the staff tends to ask whether you like whipped cream or not. I really dislike whipped cream so had to scoop all that stuff off. The next one was just simply funny: when you're ordering a side order of eggs, one option they list on the menu is a sunny side up egg, one of the other options is to have a "fried egg". I asked the waitress what exactly a fried egg was, she didn't know. She asked the chef, and apparently they didn't know either. So I ordered it over easy, hoping that was doable, but I just got a sunny side up egg instead. And lastly, was the ambience: the space is quite nice and comfortable, but if you're sitting in the outer ring near the windows and it's a very cold winter day (which it was when we ate) expect to be cold in there. They kindly offered to hang our coats, but I had to keep mine on the whole time. Maybe if the insulation and heating system is unable to keep up, you bring in a couple space heaters for the day?

The space is beautiful, ingredients are all fresh and outstanding, and there's clearly a love for the spot from everyone working at Casa Susanna. The cocktail menu is unique and fun. Yes you could get a margarita, but everything on the menu is so interesting from Raicilla drinks to Carajillos, there's so much to love. The space feels like a film set and you need to make sure you get a reservation so you can enjoy rather than sitting outside or at the bar. Surprisingly reservations were harder to come by than expected the weekend I was there. The dishes are all great, with the Duck being my standout dish, just perfectly cooked and really exemplifying the beauty of Hudson Valley + Mexican cuisine. The tetela was also a real standout despite the simplicity of the dish. It leaned into good mexican food, withou ttrying to do too much. Each and every cocktail was fun and good! We'll be back, but not too often. The prices are high, and match the quality of the ingredients, but at $100 a person or more, it was not cheap.

Owners are JUST getting set up now and don't even have a phone number available. Got takeout to try it out. I got a carne asada cinco de mayo burrito which was pretty rock solid. Ratio of meat, beans and rice was just right. Guac and salsa included were good too. Weird that it came with a pile of lettuce but whatever. My nephew loved his nachos; these only have meat, cheese and beans, so perfect for a kid. Tacos and sopes were also good, with carne asada winning the day there too. My sister in law made the mistake of getting no beans on a burrito; they replaced it with rice which she didn't like, however omitting the beans is something you should never do at a Mexican restaurant anyway. The 2 changes I would make would be to give chips with orders (especially if you're giving salsa), and to offer a gringo ground beef option for tacos. For the latter, my father in law would patronize the hell out of you if you had this . Either way, great addition to the area and a good counterpoint to Main St up the block.

And seeing how extensively the former Denny's Restaurant was remodeled you definitely get that large corporate feeling. This is not your Mom & Pop's home-town restaurant effort. But that corporate feeling begins to fade somewhat while you are dining. The staff are friendly, helpful, and appear to be enjoying themselves as evidenced by some of them singing along to the authentic Mexican background music. The menu is huge! Would you believe 20 pages of drinks and food? Fortunately, there are photos for almost every dish, so you have no problem wondering what it is that you are ordering. Besides, most of the offerings are Tex-Mex dishes which Americans are quite familiar with by now, e.g., tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, and chimichangas. One thing that I found puzzling was that tamales were only available in each of the three Combo dishes. You apparently cannot order tamales singularly. Upon being seated, we were promptly served complimentary chips along with a red salsa and a refried bean dip with cheese, pepper, and tomato. The salsa had no spicing at all. We each ordered a large (24 oz.) draft Modelo Especial ($10 each). My initial test of a Mexican restaurant is to try a dish with their Mole and compare it with memories of the home cooked meal I was served by a close Mexican friend more than 30 years ago. However, I had wanted to also try something more than the Pollo Mole at Don Juan's. I zeroed in on Tampiqueña ($27); a marinated grilled steak and a mole enchilada coated in their house made Tia Maria Mole sauce. The dish was also served with refried beans, rice, lettuce, tomato, green onions, and guacamole in place of sliced avocado. The steak was pounded very thin so that the likely tougher cut that was used was not overly chewy. The flavors however, with the grilling and marinade were quite tasty. The enchilada was filled with tender chicken, and the mole coating on the flour tortilla was more sweet than savory as opposed to what I would have expected from a more traditional chicken and mole combination. I guess it was the Tia Maria. Once again, I did not notice any spiciness . I was also provided with a container of four fresh, warm, flour tortillas. While I'm not a fan of flour tortillas these were the best flour tortillas I've ever encountered. My wife ordered the Tacos Al Pastor ($21), choosing steak over pork or chicken, topped with pico de gallo and fresh cabbage in corn tortillas. The three tacos were also served with rice, lettuce, and tomato. The red salsa served on the side had no spiciness. However, a second container of salsa more brownish in color had plenty of spiciness. She was very pleased with her meal. One additional item on the dessert list called out to me from the moment I saw it on the menu. Sopapillas ($9), as served here, they are triangular shaped pastry dusted with cinnamon sugar, whipped cream, and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. They were tasty and enjoyable but nothing like what I first encountered in a Mexican restaurant more than 55 years ago in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There they were a basket of fried dough morsels served to us before our meal, with honey to be poured on them. YUM! Overall, we were pleased with our Tex-Mex experience and are very likely to return to try some additional menu items. If you want spicy, be sure to request the appropriate salsa.

The bartender arrived with menus and took my drink order. I was also given a glass of water and a complementary first basket of fried tortilla chips and salsa, which were crunchy and pretty good. For dinner, the Chicken Fajitas ($22 plus tax) arrived a very hot sizzling skillet of tender grilled chicken pieces, red peppers, green peppers, onions & seasonings, served with a bowl of Mexican rice, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and 3 warm soft flour tortillas. The portion of food was generous and I barely finished everything. I passed on the offer for dessert and received the check which had two totals with tax and before tip ,$23.76 (card payment) and $22.81 (cash payment), 4 percent cash discount. Overall, the chicken fajitas were pretty good and freshly made.
