I thought stuff like this only happened in the movies you know- like that "My Cousin Vinny" moment when Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei roll into town to check the tires and everyone gives them the full up-and-down stare. Well, that's exactly how it felt when we walked in for a quick bite at Angel's in rural East Durham, NY. With a name like Angel's Café and the owner being a Spanish language speaker, the customer base leans in a totally different direction: more rural Americana than anything else. Stares aside, we were sent this way after wrapping up some errands in town. Clean and spacious with a menu full of variety, this café-restaurant has something for every taste. My Muenster and sliced tomato grilled cheese had just the right amount of gooeyness, pressed between buttery slices of rye (not my go-to, but it was either that or wheat). It hit the spot so well, I almost ordered another. Hubs, being the meat-eater he is, went for the burger patty club sandwich and had no complaints. While the space itself is spotless and inviting, the ventilation system could use some attention because I left smelling more like the kitchen than a customer. Still, the wide selection and comfortable setting make it a nice visit. Service was easygoing and for two solid sandwiches, a pink lemonade and an iced tea, our total was just $24. Ordered a pizza margarita and tacos that came with rice and beans. Rice and beans were inedible, I had to spit them out the flavor was like they had been in the fridge for a while and taken on bad odors . Tacos were bland. Pizza was obviously some regular old pie they had and put some basil chiffonade on top, was not freshly made nor did it have fresh mozzarella like a margarita should. I won't be back. read more

Found this hidden gem while visiting upstate for a few days. Very mom and pop and it shows the minute you walk in, it's family owned and ran. They have a wide variety menu and the food was great and at a very affordable price. The servers were extremely nice and kind. The cafe itself is very quiet but we were told early mornings usually are extremely hectic. I wish I tried more of their menu and hope to go back soon! read more

First of all, we frequented this restaurant for the last 3 1/2 years! Committed, isn't even a word to describe our relationship with this place and the waitstaff. Well, one night I went in to grab some food for takeout and as EVERYONE knows, cashapp and how it works! My meal/order came to like $33.17, I swiped my card, said approved, I got the instant notification and done. The waitress says, it didn't go through, I said ummm yes it did, first of all cashapp wouldn't of approved it hadn't I had enough $$ (btw we spent easily 50$+ every time we went n left generous tips n NEVER had an issue, believe me!) so after the owner calling his bank, being rude, the waitress agreeing with him, I was like r u serious? I'm not just a customer coming in to get food, we come here all the time! So, the owner GIVES me THE FOOD and says come pay for it tomorrow, I said it's already paid for! So, the next day, I print out all the completed receipt from there and also screenshot the conversation I had with cashapp stating it did indeed go through!! So I sent my husband in there with the paperwork, as he swore at him told him to FU****g leave and he don't wanna see any f*****g paperwork he's having me arrested. So I immediately went to the police barracks sub station in Greenville, showed them all the proof and they said ma'am your correct it did indeed go through and if he harasses you let us know! I'm still waiting to be arrested....... SHAME ON YOU read more

They have a full menu of different foods, all od which is delicious, the staff is friendly and the space is cozy!

Food is always good. I've had the homemade soups and they are delish. The local country comfort is a welcome experience. I think Portions are becoming smaller though. read more

Decent enough food and the service was good but very disappointed to find out that if you don't pay cash you will be charged 3.99% extra. When I questioned them about that policy and asked how much the company charged them the gentleman at the register said he didn't know. read more

I do not like to write negative reviews, but our experience at Angel's Cafe seems worth a comment. Angel's management allows its paying customers to be bullied by other customers. As we had ordered food, another customer called police because our dog was in the car. All four windows of our vehicle were cracked open, and the dog had a bowl of water plus some snacks. Our car was the only one parked there at the time, and we were one of two customers. In another fifteen minutes, and at least one of us would have been finished eating. We could see the car from where we were sitting, and my husband again went out to open the windows more from where they were. Nevertheless, this customer took it upon herself to call police. Management stood by and offered no help. Our pet was in no danger. The windows were open and the dog had water. Unlike many dogs, ours does not like being in the car and started barking. She is a vocal beagle and will sometimes bark when we go out. We had just left our motel, which was about a half mile up the road, and wanted to grab a quick bite before driving home to Orange County, New York. We were not in the store more than 20 minutes when this customer was on the phone calling police. We were right there the whole time, and we could see our car from where we were sitting. This took place at around 10:30. It was a warm day, but there was a breeze. It was obvious that we were right there and would be done eating within minutes. Since this is how they treat their customers, on future trips to East Durham, we will never return to this restaurant. read more

The pizza is just a tad better than the worst Mexican food I have ever tasted . Cheap ingredients and not so knowledgeable cooks .

The only place there is ambiance is on the front porch. This inside is in desperate need of a decorator or at least some thought as to how it looks. The food is hit or miss. Some items are better than others. Good luck. It is cheap. And the food is never disgusting - it is edible but if you are looking for something that actually taste yummy and predictably so, maybe try another place. There is a huge opportunity for someone to open a restaurant in east Durham. Avoid Irish cuisine. We have that in spades (some better than others). Service is fine. read more

The waitress was wonderful. Not our best experience food wise and disappointed. The sauce was watered down and minimal. Asked for more and was charged $2 without being told there was a charge. Not right! A tiny monkey dish of sauce was given. For sure this restaurant nickels and dimes you to death. Service charge for not paying with cash and not told to you either when handing the waitress a card. Needed to take food with us as we did not finish our meal, but not without a cost of $0.25 for each take out container. Surprised they did not charge for the bag they offered to help carry the to go containers. Unreal! We won't be going there again, sadly. read more

Very clean space, good vibe, and kind staff. Good space to stop to have a casual lunch. I ordered the chicken Cesar wrap, with fries. My boyfriend had the Italian wrap. They were good classic wraps. I loved that the chicken was warm (most wraps come cold). The bacon was well done, and cooked to perfection. Price was affordable. I did not order any of the Mexican specialities but they seem to be a hit. I also saw a lot of people ordering pizza. If I come back to visit again, I will most likely come back for a classic American meal. read more

The menu is distracting but if you have been there , Burgers+++ Pizza+++ salads+++ sandwiches+++ not too sure about the tex -mex we felt they were heavy on the filling and short on tortillas. Good food with a large menu. I was in the area for Zoom Flume Waterpark and stopped for food. I had the Chicken Francese with pasta and a slice of Carrot Cake for dessert. They don't serve alcohol so enjoy your favorite soft drink. The servers are very attentive and polite. I will eat here again. read more

This place is on a country road in upstate butt crack New York, and it was pretty good. I think we all got wraps. I enjoyed my buffalo chicken wrap. According to many of the reviews, they warned us that they don't offer "free refills," though they will slyly ask "would you like a refill?" Thanks to this tip, we took our time drinking our iced teas and whatever sodas we got. Ok, so we decided to go back and try their pizza. Pricing is maderate, at $17 for a pie with vegetable topping. The crust was good, sauce and cheese were just the right amount. It was cooked fine, with a slightly crispy bottom. The toppings were missing the olives that were included in the description on the menu, but were generally fine. Fresh mushrooms, green peppers, onion, fresh basil...which was a nice touch, and sliced tomato. The last one didn't really belong, and was redundant since there was already tomato sauce on it. It could have used some broccoli, spinach, eggplant...just some more substance to justify the price and generally give it a lift. Fried Calamari was crisp and hot, served with lemon wedges and a spicy tomato sauce. The squid needed seasoning, that's for sure, as there was no indication of salt or pepper. Nothing terrible here. They pop you again for a fountain beverage refill, so be aware when they ask you if you'd like more. I've added a star for the decent pizza. read more

There are about 3 places to eat in East Durham, and Angel's is the closest thing to a diner that we've got. We seem to go to Angel's for "brunch" every time the Southern Contingent of my family comes to visit - not "brunch" by fancy restaurant standards, just meaning you can get breakfast or lunch. They have burgers, Mexican, pizza - they cover almost everything - and it's pretty good! The portions are generous and the prices are decent, I can't speak for the pizza because I haven't had it in a while. You could do worse than Angel's, and the people that work there are really friendly. I grew up in East Durham, and I'm glad to see that it's still a restaurant, and a decent one! read more

I ate at Angel's in East Durham 3 separate times. The food seems like it can be decent but isn't consistent. Two of the 3 times were disappointing. First time I at there the Chicken gyro wrap I ordered was basically almost burnt. Very dry the chicken was. Second time I ate there, the meal was decent. The third time I ate at Angel's in East Durham, I felt weird shortly after eating the food and had to go to the bathroom. I would try one of the other restaurants around before going here.
