I love when the servers are friendly and smiling and this was definitely the case. Not a fancy place but clean with delicious food. I got the chili omelette which was really tasty. My friends both got salads and soup and said the soup was fantastic. It lost one star because I really had my heart set on soup and they ran out and I let my friends have it. Just make more soup! It's always nice going to an Old-School Diner with a giant menu {that has at least 100 items}, dessert case, big parking lot, waitresses that have been there for 20+ years, a flock of regulars, and plenty of booths. *Bonus Points* if there are panels of chrome on the outside of the building. We wanted a quick bite, after a hike, so we pulled in. You have to always try the homemade soup when visiting an out of town diner. So we did ! One Soup (Chicken Noodle) w/Grill Cheese & Tomato and One Soup (Cream of Turkey) w/Tuna Melt. Soups came out quick with packets of Zesta Crackers and an unmarked bottle of hot sauce. I believe it was "Frank's". The sandwiches took a little longer, but were piping hot. My tomato was like lava, and I almost burned myself with the cheese. When was the last time that happened ?!?! Tuna Melt weighed about a pound, and the rye bread barely supported it. And the Cole Slaw was surprisingly good. I think the bill came to 22 bucks. Really classic diner in a downtown location, it was fun to visit there. We appreciated the fact the server, kitchen, and front checkout / host gave us expedited service since somewhat unusually for a diner visit we were on a tight schedule. My companion had an ample and nicely prepared pizza burger, and I had a russian-dressing free reuben (not by choice; what's up with that?) and tasty fries. Down vote for the coffee, which was grainy and bad, but given the friendly and quick service, still recommended. Diner portions are large, small tables do not work. Our server set the expectations up front - kitchen is running behind today, be prepared to wait a bit. Fine with us. Drinks were produced and order taken. Lion got the Big Daddy Breakfast I think it was called - always a diner classic offering involving pancakes or French toast, 2-3 eggs cooked your way, toast, home fries and coffee. I got French toast with bacon as, alas, we were out of range of scrapple-land. Coffee & drinks never got empty, before we finished another was offered & our server checked in twice, apologizing again for the wait and assuring us our order was coming. After about 40 minutes it came. It was worth the wait. French toast was crispy on the outside and soft inside, no soggy eggy stuff. Bacon was good. Lion said his eggs were perfect, agreed French toast was awesome. I had his potatoes, they were standard, not too peppery or loaded with onions. One other hallmark of a good diner? This use to be a great place to eat, but the last two times I have eaten here I have been disappointed. Went for breakfast, had a Belgian waffle and 2 sausages. The waffle came to the table lukewarm, could not even melt the butter., sausages too were barely warm. My friend had one scramble egg with cheese, home fries and coffee. The egg was not hot the home fries were tasteless. The waitress came walking by and said " everything OK, and kept walking, not waiting for an answer. Very disappointing. But not cheap! read more

Food was good but service is a little slow, so definitely plan a longer time frame if you're stopping by midday on the weekend. I love a good diner and this one was a great find in Saugerties... I decided to go with one of the specials for the day, eggplant Parm. I was offered the senior special lol... Village diner is a mainstay in--guess where--the village of Saugerties. It is your normal stereotypical diner, with a bible's worth of dishes being offered. Prices are very affordable, unlike some diners elsewhere up here. Service has always been friendly and efficient. Close your eyes and imagine what a diner looks like; it looks like that. Being located right off the main drag in town, it's also pretty convenient to get to. I usually get the Thanksgiving panini and ask for a side of gravy to go with it. That typically lasts 2 meals for me, as the portion of homemade turkey/stuffing/cranberry is generous and also comes with fries/cole slaw. Senior special is a great deal, including an entree, soup, coffee, roll and dessert for like $10. My in-laws have gotten a variety of dishes and we've never been disappointed. Sorry, but this place was terrible. Although they have great sausage links. We got the Buffalo chicken wrap, blueberry pancakes and a Mexican omelet. They did tell us it would take a while as they were backed up in the kitchen. 50 minutes later we got our food after telling them we were about to leave. They were annoyed we said something. The chicken wrap was cold and rubbery. The Mexican omelet was dry and cold. The toast wasn't even buttered right( how can you mess that up?) The blueberry pancakes are completely cold and rubbery. Food is good but be prepared to wait a very long time. Went there for lunch on October 22 and had a very long wait for everything. Fifteen minutes just to place the order, we should have left and went somewhere else, but did not. We're told there was only one server working, the person who seated us, got the first round of drinks, but she never returned. The server grabbed the rest of the drinks. Why was no one helping her? Now understand that they were not busy, only a few tables had people. The food was good hence the two stars, but the service was awful. Two hours for a simple, basic lunch. read more

After going to the Garlic festival we wanted a quick bite to eat. Found the diner in a very quaint old town. It looked clean and appealing and had corn growing outside. This is a small very local place. We hit it during a rush with 2 large groups. The waitstaff was overrun but not frazzled. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. I have to give them a Mulligan on the service. It was okay but again they were really busy. Plenty of parking and plenty of choices for food. Came here as I was staying nearby in an Airbnb fir the weekend. The menu here is huge, I mean if you can't find something that you like here you are not gonna find it anywhere. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. I just stopped by for breakfast only so this is what my review is based upon. They do have some really great breaks fast special when I was there (10$ below options) but I was kinda hungry so decided to go with the fried steak with gravy. This was a huge plate that came with hash browns, bread and 2 eggs. Like I said the portion are enormous for the price you pay. The steak was one of the most high priced items on the menu and only was about 13$. Would definitely come back here if I'm in the Neighborhood. They do accept Apple Pay. read more

What a GEM! I am physically challenged. Upon coming through the door and plopping on the counter ( where she obviously was doing book work) she made me feel so welcome and not a bother at all. I ordered breakfast at 1 pm. While waiting i scoped out the venue ( i worked restaurants all my life) and noticed immediately how clean it was. Even the dishwasher coming out of kitchen was neat and clean. The waitress were all in black and neat as a button. I was soooo impressed. My food came out EXACTLEY as I ordered it! Crisp bacon fluffy scrambled eggs not done to leather even the home fries were fresh and had no taste of the grill. The bill came and I could not believe how affordable it was. Nice local diner, they have a huge menu and specials throughout the day. I got an onion, cheddar, and mushroom omelette which was on the breakfast specials menu. Comes with home fries and toast... usually breakfast specials come with a beverage but the waitress never mentioned anything. My food was good and the portions were large but the service was horrible. Our waitress almost gave our food to the booth next to us after waiting awhile for our food even though they weren't even busy. She also didn't come back once for a coffee refill. read more
