It's such a cute and cosy diner. The food fit the diner expectations: big portions, affordable price and comfort food. The pancakes were a lot bigger than I expected, it's the size of my face! The staff was very nice and attentive with keeping our coffee and water refilled.

Typical old fashioned diner that needs a good cleaning and remodeling. Menu was diverse and service was great. I settled on a western omelet with a choice of crispy or not crispy home fries and sour dough toast. Food arrived quickly and the omelet was extremely full of toppings and was nice and hot. I had ordered crispy home fries and would hate to see what the non-crispy were as these were cold and soggy. The sour dough toast did not taste sour at all.

Atmosphere - Great. The restaurant has a comfortable country feel. There is tons of seating that includes booths and tables. Service - Very good. Our server was very nice and attentive. Food - Very good. We were there for breakfast and the menu options are many and varied. I chose the Ham and Cheese omelette, which came with fried potatoes and toast. The omelette was served hot and tasted great. Overall Value - Very good!

This is a pretty good diner. The prices are fair, the food is good, the tea tasted weird, but they have sodas that taste fine and coffee that is good. We came here as an option after having a bit of a rough start to the day. It was nice to walk into an actual restaurant. The inside is cute, with a homely and warm ambiance, with a general quiet feeling that makes it comfortable to sit and chat while eating. The staff was friendly and got everythingnout to us quick. We were very happy to come here and would suggest it to visitors to this town. TL;DR: A good town diner.

It's easy to miss, if you don't know what you're looking for, but PLEASE don't overlook the Windham Diner!! The portions are enormous. The interior is dated. But the food is all homemade and DELICIOUS. We met my parents there for Mother's Day dinner, and everyone took some home. The dinner specials were roast pork loin stuffed with spinach, roasted red peppers, bacon and stuffing - my brother ordered this, got soup, potatoes and a vegetable with it - if his portion of meat wasn't 2 lbs I'll be dipped. His vegetable was butternut squash - a half of a roasted squash. His coffee cup barely had a sip or two out of it before they topped him up. I got the turkey dinner special - I think they gave me half the turkey!! Light and dark meat, stuffing, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, cranberry sauce, and soup or salad. I ate mostly the mashed potatoes because they were DELISH, and brought almost all the rest home. A ham and pear panini? Gorgeous, and incredible. The Americana burger with bacon aioli?! I'm pretty sure my husband would leave me for the aioli.... Also, the kindest, most attentive waitstaff - from the man who did continuous laps clearing plates and filling coffee, to the gentleman (maybe a cook?) you offered up a booth to lay our sleeping toddler in so we didn't have to hold album and eat, to the waitress who offered to make our toddler a to go order. Lastly, the price was beyond reasonable - and they gave the moms a rose and heart balloon, but had them hidden in the back so you got to see the genuine surprise from each woman! I can't wait to go back! If only to attempt dessert...there was just no way it was happening this trip!

I always leave here satisfied and happy with the experience! The Windham Diner, previously Michael's Diner, has been a reliable "go to" for any meal whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Their prices are reasonable and the food always comes out fast and hot! The staff are very attentive and friendly, willing to cater to you.

Large plate of Shrimp Athenian with pasta, stuffed shrimp with mash potatoes and butternut squash

One of the better diners I've visited. The staff was pleasant even though they were busy. Prices were quite reasonable with good special combo deals that included a large soup. My wife actually loved the stuffed shrimp and the shrimp Athenian pasta was quite pleasing. The menu is large and the portions are quite bountiful. Not a bad place to grab some casual grub.

The sauces and jams are made in house. They sell main stream candy repackaged in general store packaging for an up charge. There's Windham and Catskill souvenirs. There's stuff made by local artists along with big box toys and items. There are a few cats living in the store and restaurant - all are super friendly. The restaurant is nice but the service is extremely slow and could be a touch nicer. There are multiple signs talking about the whole world being understaffed. Just be prepared to spend a while. The waitress was fine but clearly very busy. We had mentioned wanting to get dessert at the beginning but when we were done eating, she had just brought us our check - we were too fully anyway. I had the garden salad sandwich on farm bread. The avocado wasn't the freshest and there was only one tiny piece of tomato - this will probably be a good sandwich in peak summer. The sandwiches came with chips and salsa. The store made mango salsa is delicious. Locally made root beer in a bottle was delicious and unique. Whether you're coming off a long day at Hunter Mountain or just passing through Windham, this spot perfectly balances a rustic, family-friendly atmosphere with a menu that doesn't cut corners. The Butcher Steaks: This isn't just a "chicken joint." They take their beef seriously, offering fresh-cut, flame-grilled steaks like the 24oz Ribeye and NY Strip. They even age their own steaks in-house when available, resulting in a tender, seasoned-to-perfection cut that rivals high-end steakhouses but at much friendlier "mountain prices." The Signature Fried Chicken: This is the restaurant's namesake for a reason. The chicken is consistently hot, crispy, and juicy. Pro tip: Get the combo that comes with their special honey sauce and "cornbread cake." Dipping the savory, salty skin into that honey is a game-changer. BBQ Ribs: If you're looking for "fall-off-the-bone," you found it. Their ribs are slow-cooked and slathered in a rich, tangy sauce that requires a stack of napkins and zero regrets. Save room--or just admit you're having a second dinner--for the homemade desserts. Their dessert bar and soft-serve ice cream are staples, but the real magic happens in the summer (or around the outdoor firepits) with their S'mores kits. It's the perfect way to cap off a mountain day. With a massive backyard featuring a firepit, live music on the weekends, and a "come as you are" dress code, it's easily the best spot for big groups. The service is fast, the portions are massive, and the "old-school country" energy makes you feel like a local the moment you walk in.

We arrived around 7:45 p.m., ordered drinks, and then waited an entire hour before receiving our appetizer--after the restaurant had mostly emptied out. The "nachos" were nothing more than broken tortilla chips topped with vegetarian chili and a few jalapeños. There was virtually no cheese, and I had to ask for sour cream. To make matters worse, they were served with paper plates. During that entire hour, our waitress never once checked on us. She never apologized for the wait, never refilled our drinks, and never asked if we needed anything. We honestly thought our order had been forgotten. The atmosphere wasn't much better. We heard other tables complaining, glasses crashing to the floor, and the entire evening felt like we were on a prank show. By 9:15 p.m.--an hour and a half after arriving--we still hadn't received our entrees, which were simply a grilled chicken salad, chicken fingers with fries, and a kielbasa dinner. I can't comment on the food because we never got it. At 9:20 p.m., I politely got up and asked our waitress how much longer it would be. Without even looking up, she snapped, "She's working on it." No apology. No explanation. Just attitude. At that point, we'd had enough. I asked for the check for our drinks and appetizer so we could leave. She stormed away. When she returned, she dropped the check on our table--which still hadn't been cleared from the appetizer--and walked away. When I asked her what her name was, she ignored me completely. I then asked the blonde bartender for the waitress's name. She first told me it was Paula, then quickly corrected herself and said, "Oh wait, it's actually Jess," once she realized why I was asking, so I'm still not sure which is correct. The waitress appeared to be a heavy-set woman in her late 30s or early 40s with brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, which should help management identify who waited on our table. Before we left, we overheard the bartender telling two guests that there was only one server and one bartender working, another employee had been called in too late to make a difference, and the cook on duty wasn't the strongest, which was why the kitchen was so slow. While I understand that staffing shortages happen, none of this was ever communicated to us. A simple explanation and apology would have gone a long way. I paid the bill and left. We have a vacation home just 15 minutes away and dine in the area often. Unfortunately, after this experience, we will never return. Between the excessive wait, poor communication, rude service, and disappointing food, this was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had.

They had sold out of the Country Girl, which was the fried chicken and biscuits, so I opted for the sausage and biscuits with eggs, and hubs tried the lemon ricotta pancake with homemade blueberry jam. I could have used a couple more spoonfuls though. The large pancakes were perfectly fluffy, and the jam (though they could have been more generous with the topping) was a perfect match. Good, solid, stick to your ribs food. Service was friendly and quick. Only miss was the acidic stale coffee that was likely sitting around for a couple of hours). I'd say prices are on the higher side, but still, a better deal and quality than the brunch at Babbler nearby, for example. The flavors were intricate yet subtle, and I loved that it was vegetable forward. My "Not a Negroni" was the best Negroni I've had, hands down. I wasn't sure how the Rum and Pineapple Amaro would work together, but they were exquisite compliments. The homemade sourdough and butter came out hot and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. It was hard to resist ordering more. A simple salad of lettuces, cucumber, cheese and light dressing blew my mind -- perfect for summer. I got the dauphine potatoes, which were like potato croquettes, and the addition of prosciutto made them a hearty and filling dish. The only miss for me were the desserts -- the flavor of the lemon tart was excellent but there was a jello-like encasing that seemed out of place and unnecessary. The mousse also had these strange jello-like pieces in the cream, which didn't really work for me. Next time, I would get the sundae. Our server, Amanda, was friendly and attentive without being overly watchful, and when she got busy, the host came over and helped us order drinks.
