It's easy to miss, if you don't know what you're looking for, but PLEASE don't overlook the Windham Diner!! The portions are enormous. The interior is dated. But the food is all homemade and DELICIOUS. We met my parents there for Mother's Day dinner, and everyone took some home. The dinner specials were roast pork loin stuffed with spinach, roasted red peppers, bacon and stuffing - my brother ordered this, got soup, potatoes and a vegetable with it - if his portion of meat wasn't 2 lbs I'll be dipped. His vegetable was butternut squash - a half of a roasted squash. His coffee cup barely had a sip or two out of it before they topped him up. I got the turkey dinner special - I think they gave me half the turkey!! Light and dark meat, stuffing, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, cranberry sauce, and soup or salad. I ate mostly the mashed potatoes because they were DELISH, and brought almost all the rest home. A ham and pear panini? Gorgeous, and incredible. The Americana burger with bacon aioli?! I'm pretty sure my husband would leave me for the aioli.... Also, the kindest, most attentive waitstaff - from the man who did continuous laps clearing plates and filling coffee, to the gentleman (maybe a cook?) you offered up a booth to lay our sleeping toddler in so we didn't have to hold album and eat, to the waitress who offered to make our toddler a to go order. Lastly, the price was beyond reasonable - and they gave the moms a rose and heart balloon, but had them hidden in the back so you got to see the genuine surprise from each woman! Had a great warm and hearty meal on our last day of our stay in Windham. Super large portions and very cozy interiors. The service was very friendly, we did have to wait but for a group of 6 people we got seated within 20 mins during their peak hours. THEY ARE CASH ONLY. I came here with a friend on our way up to see family. When we stopped by on a saturday evening around 5pm there were only couple other tables seated. We were immediately greeted and asked for drinks. Then another person came over giving us menus and then another person came over with 2 white boards completely full of specials. Now i like to have a lot of choices but the woman was basically waiting for us to order something off of the specials board. What i really hate is being rushed. This is the 2nd time lately that I've gone to a place where they give you a menu but then show you specials and want you to order off that before i even open the menu. My friend got the salmon over a greek salad which was HUGE and left her with about 3 meals worth of salad. The one thing about it is they put the dressing on it which was hard to eat the next day. The salmon was delicious though. I got a Turkey club with avocado on a ciabatta which was delicious. They give you a good helping of chick pea bean salad if you like that. They also give you a free piece of cake in the end. We said no. Then another person came over and asked if we were ready for cake, again we tried to decline and they insisted we share a piece. I guess next time ill just say I'm allergic. The last thing i have to say is we were chatting after a very long drive from Boston and after being asked by 2 different people if we wanted a bag for our containers a 3rd gentleman just came over and put our containers in bags. At this point I decided we needed to leave. I came to this establishment a few weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon with four friends. You have to wear masks inside, but once your seated you can take them off. All of the groups of customers were a great distance from one another. Although, I'm usually bad with names I remembered our waitress Vicky because she was absolutely amazing! This was the first restaurant we've eaten at since resteraunts have opened back up and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Everyone enjoyed their meal; From the fajitas, to the fries, pancakes and waffles. Half of us couldn't even finish our meal, so we ended up bringing it home. What a lovely way to end a day of skiing with my family! We were worried we wouldn't find any open restaurants because it's Christmas Day. Luckily, we came across Windham Diner (also known as Michael's Diner) and called to confirm they're open til 8pm. We were seated immediately upon arrival and had fun coloring on the provided activity papers while we waited for our food. Here's what we ordered: The Drunken Sailor Sandwich Grilled Cheese Mozzarella Sticks BLT Lentil Soup Boneless Buffalo Chicken Tenders Root Beer Float. Each of us enjoyed the meal and we were pleased with our waitress, Vicki's sweet temperament. We were especially surprised and excited when she served each of us large slices of cake - on the house! I was facing the counter and had been eyeing the cake on the counter as she sliced it - completely oblivious to the fact that she was cutting it for us. She brought it out to us just as we finished our meal and started discussing if we had "room for dessert." (We always do!) It was delicious and made our day that much sweeter! There are just so much hate reviews about this diner, on the contrary, my experience here was not as bad as the others. We came here early Monday afternoon and everything seems closed in this quaint small town of Windham except Michael's Diner on the Main Street. We entered the side door and were greeted by a lovely woman. We helped ourselves to a table and the same lady brought the lunch special board for us to take a closer look. I ordered a lobster bisque (and probably the worse bisque I have had in years) but my philly cheese steak with fries was freshly made and very acceptable. Our orders arrived in a timely fashion. I have to agree with others that this place is probably not the cleanest restaurant but the customer service really rocked. The staff took time to answer our questions about the town. After a day of skiing at Windham Mountain, I stopped at this local diner along Main Street for a late lunch. Michael's Diner is open daily from 7AM to 9PM for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, dine-in or takeout. The casual dining room has country decor, wood flooring, table seating and lunch counter stool seating. I sat myself at the lunch counter since I was dining alone. I perused over the menu sections while I waited for the waitress to come over and to take my order. There was only one waitress in the whole place taking care of four other tables, while the manager stood by? I don't get that. The breakfast menu (served all day) offers egg dishes, omelets, egg sandwiches, pancakes, French toast, Belgian waffles, cereal, muffins, bagels, toast, homefries, corned beef hash, bacon, ham, and sausage. The lunch menu offers burgers, sandwiches, hot open sandwiches, wraps, fried baskets, soup, salads, pita pizzas, beef burrito, fried appetizers, Greek specials (spanakopita, gyros, souvlaki, Greek salad), desserts (ice cream treats & pies), and a Children's Menu. The dinner menu offers pasta, sautee dishes, and homestyle entrees served with soup or salad, dinner entree price range $11.95-$14.95 (2007). Beer and wine available. After 5 minutes of waiting, the waitress finally came over to take my order and I ordered the Beef Burrito ($7.95) served with fries & pickle spear and some ice water. The Beef Burrito was a grilled flour tortilla stuffed with ground beef, cheese, lettuce, & spices served with salsa and sour cream, very tasty, but most food is very tasty after several hours of hardcore skiing.
