The best burgers in Wisconsin. The people are friendly and welcoming. I need to visit again soon.

This is my second time visiting this restaurant and this time I brought my husband…read more We start with a very friendly "hello" from the bartender who was quick to get our drinks out to us while we looked at the very extensive menu. We decided to start with the artichoke dip which was a generous amount and tasted great. The chips were salty but that's what you get for commercial bagged chips. My Bloody Mary was delicious. Thick and full of flavor, just the way I like them. At least really good for anywhere in WI that I have found so far. I had the thin crust hot honey pizza w added black olives and mushrooms. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this pizza. It was just so good! Just the right amount of honey sweetness to offset the salty of the cheese and pepperoni! I could have gorged myself and ate the whole thing, but I did restrain myself fortunately. We had a couple slices reheated in the air fryer for a late snack (we NEVER do this!)", and my husband decided he was also a fan. He had a burger and o'rings that he thought the beef was bland and the o'rings were too greasy. Over all, it was a very nice meal and the whole staff that interacted with us were so very friendly. Everyone kept asking how the food was and made sure we didn't need anything else. We drive over 30 minutes just to get other options than the few local places here that don't offer much. We are going back today to have the pizza again.

Everyone was so friendly and the bartenders wanted to get to know the guests. They recommended the bruschetta, and it was a home run. Get this appetizer. You won't be disappointed! Wifey had a hamburger with a slice of raw onion. I went with the cheeseburger, pepper jack and a slice of raw onion. Split an order of seasoned fries. Burgers were large, guessing 1/3 to 1/2 a pound, coarse ground beef cooked perfectly for us. Fries were piping hot and nicely seasoned. Everything was excellent. Food came hot to the table. Service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend without any reservations. Will head back on a Friday for the fish fry.

Inside, it's all lodge-like knotty cedar on it's high ceiling and walls, and while that may not be novel for this part of the state, it is especially good quality, well-maintained, and nicely designed compared to the interiors of many of the other well-worn taverns in the area. However; that does not carry over to the bar seats that are well worn-out and held together with electric tape. So who cares, no one can see it once their butt is firmly in place. Highly recommended: Prime Rib breakfast every Saturday and Sunday from 8a.m. til 12 p.m. Tender, juicy, lightly browned, served with tasty au jus, eggs your way, and hash browns made "special" with the addition of onion and melted cheese, on request. Noteworthy touches: an adorable, elderly poodle mascot behind the bar, a lazy calico cat with her name embroidered on her own stool, and customers are welcome to bring in their well-behaved pups, as well; I would be remiss not to mention a small but adequate selection of slots in a side room near the screened back door. The requisite beer and alcohol are available but served in plastic "glasses", so do like the natives and drink beer from the bottle. Full, decent quality pub grub menu. Ask the bartender for directions to Trader's tiki bar and food on the adjacent camp grounds on the Wisconsin river. It's called an island and it has the vibe. If the upscale, aggressive bar scene in Chicago is beginning to seem more chore than it's worth, the quasi-dive/restaurants and supper clubs strung like wooden beads on a coir chain along the by-ways of this close-in Driftless Region (Google it) of Wisconsin are well worth the scenic, pastoral drive and time--especially if you're not looking to hook up, fall in love, get married, and have kids. It's simply a great way to unwind, relax, and just be yourself by yourself, with your best buds, or SO--and return home with change for your ten-spot jingling in your pocket.

The…read moreplace is so cool - it still has the old exterior of the Spring Green State Bank and a very cozy atmosphere that still makes you feel like you're back in the bank... just elevated. There was even a children's section where kids could play around and be supervised by a parent with a drink or something. Great classic kids books in there too -- love the Busy World of Richard Scarry. I would have given this a 5star review because my food was overall 5star, but there were just too many issues in timing and service and such not to make note of. This was an event where all tables were sat at the same time. Tables were getting their first appetizer before we even got our drinks, and our drinks didn't come out together at all. One person in our party had Celiac but they forgot to bring out a gluten free appetizer, so the rest of us finished our appetizer before she even got hers. Probably not what staff was used to with everything at the same time, I get it, it just wasn't a very good start. It was also freezing to start inside and I kept my jacket on through the first course. Then it warmed up. Old building with radiators, also totally get that, but if the seating was staggered and that front door kept opening, it would have been miserable. After our drinks and appetizers, timing worked out on the rest of the meals. Everything was wonderful and the menu was so thoughtfully laid out. The only other snafu was our secondi course of pappardelle with wild mushrooms had no mushrooms in it, like zero. The gluten free dish had a ton of them and looked really good. It wasn't worth bringing up given the timing issues, and even without the mushrooms the pasta was absolutely delicious. Scallops were cooked to perfection, though if the risotto had saffron in it I couldn't tell at all. Still, I didn't leave one single scrap on ANY of my plates. Despite any issues, the staff was so kind throughout and they were all obviously rushing around trying to get everyone everything they needed. Great food, lovely staff, amazing ambiance -- yes, I'll definitely try to come back here if I'm ever out this way.

Our server Katie said the owners were from North Carolina, hence the focus on smoked BBQ. We did see a big magnificent smoker out back. Old fashioned was great. We tried the smoked chicken, the smoked brisket, and the smoked pulled pork; all were good, as well as the sides. Would surely return, and recommended it to our fellow visitors.

I'm not a snob so I can do a nice place, a dive and anything in between which was how the weekend went. The bar was pretty busy for a Saturday night and I was going to do a fresh patty burger but pizza after pizza was going out the front door so I might rethink my burger. The place is your typical Wi small town bar and not a dive but old looking that is CASH ONLY with a full bar and restaurant. The menu is decent for a bar and they take the food seriously with fresh beef burgers and real pizzas. I had a couple beers and gin tonics which were ok and not top shelf. The place is pretty loud and it was hard having a conversation but it was the place to be. We ordered the 16'' Soprano pizza with sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, fresh mushrooms, onions, green peppers, green olives and black olives. First off they don't skimp on the toppings because they were plentiful and the pizza was really good with a nice saltyness from the green olives that worked so well. I doubt that they make the crust and I could be wrong but it very good because it was not thick or cracker thin but a nice in between that was like a fresh chewy crust from good fresh baked bread. It was weird to bump into the owner of the bar that we usually go to for drinks and pizza like we were cheating on him but it was all good but unexpected. Overall the pizza is good, the drinks are ok and the prices are very reasonable for a casual dinner and drinks and I see why they were packed and the lady's working the bar did an outstanding job keeping up with all the people.
