New owners reopened last week with new name...Mount Vernon Tap! Much of the menu remains the same as when it was Marcine's. Friendly staff. We went with the vegetarian pizza and it was impressive. Two of us could only eat about half of it due to the generous toppings. The other half has made some good snacks at home. Beer selection is pretty tame. Spotted Cow was the most adventurous thing they had on tap. We went with Fantasy Factory IPA in the bottle. Lively crowd of what appeared to be locals. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and it is a bit divey, but I just love this place. The bartenders are super fun and the food is FANTASTIC!!! Pizza is insane. I came here with some friends last night. There were some hits and misses, but overall we had a decent experience. The place was hopping when we arrived (6:30 on a Saturday night). Despite this, we found a table right away and were greeted by a server right immediately to place our drink orders. She also let us know that if we wanted pizza, it would be an hour and a half wait. This was super disappointing (we came for pizza,) but I really appreciated her telling us right as we sat down, as we did not have that much time. The server was extremely fun and personable. One thing I didn't like was how loud the music was playing. We had to yell to hear each other, which is fine at a bar later at night, but it was clear that everyone there was eating dinner. Our drinks and food came out surprisingly fast! I wasn't expecting that based on the crowd size. I ordered chicken wings with hot wing sauce. My husband and a friend got a burger, and our other friend got a grilled cheese. I was a little disappointed when I saw the wings, as the were breaded and fried with the sauce on the side as opposed to being saucy, hot wings. Despite this, the wings tasted good, and hit the spot. Everyone else liked their food as well. We ordered mini tacos too and they were really good and a cool break from your typical bar apps. Once we finished our food we waited FOREVER to get the bill. My husband had to go up to the bar to get them to come over and when they finally did, they only had accounted for half of our items, so they had to go back and figure it out. I think we spent more time waiting for our bill than we did waiting for our food and eating! Marcine's is definitely a fun bar, and I imagine their pizza is good based on its popularity. I have heard about the pizza night here for AGESS, because my husband always went with his teachers. Finally, we went as a date night! You do wait a WHILE. Stopped in over the weekend for a friend's birthday dinner. She had heard through the grapevine about the amazing pizza at Marcine's, and I have to admit that I was skeptical. It is a bar after all. I could not believe how incredible the pizza truly was! I ordered thin crust with pepperoni and black olives, and they don't skimp on the toppings or the cheese. Went here again on Saturday before our final bar stop. Lots of locals and some party going on so it was a little loud. Craft beer on tap and regular beer/mixed drinks. I don't imagine many yelpers in this area if you don't live around there but it's the only place in the area. Service was prompt and just a good area place. Marcine's is proof that appearances can be deceiving. While it looks like quite the dive from the outside, you walk into a big bright, colorful and inviting interior bar space brimming with patrons and festivity. And this was at 9AM on a Sunday morning. The other shocker was to see the bartenders lining up gigantic Bloody Marys at 9AM for people who actually ordered them. Bloody Marys with slim jims, olives, mushrooms and asparagus ($5.00). I personally have to wait for at least until after church time before I can start chugging Bloody Marys. While I've heard good things about the pizza, I came in for the weekend breakfast special. $5.00 for a plate from the buffet with cheesy hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausage, baked ham, and french toast. You can get quite a bit on a plate, especially if you're the teenager in front of me in line who stacked up about six slices of French toast, and leaned about ten sausages vertically against the stack! My not very teenage tummy still allowed me a good serving of this very good breakfast fare. The coffee is good and $1.50 gets you a large mug. Service here is very friendly, and in this little village, everyone seems to know everyone else. As other reviewers have pointed out, Marcine's is fun and a great value. I don't believe I've ever been to a $6.50 (+tip) breakfast buffet. You can't afford not to eat here. read more

Marcine's is absolutely refreshing from the usual chain bars/restaurants. One of my favorite spots in the area. Service has always been friendly. Lindsay is a hoot during Meat Raffles. Food prices are more than reasonable. With the pizzas (OMG the pizzas from Marcine's!!!) The pizza slices are layered with huge chunks of toppings. Not deep dish, not New York pizza, it's its own hybrid of some sort. I'd devour these everyday if I could. With the delicious pizzas, the $1 Monday Tacos, $0.25 Wednesday Wings, etc., how does this place make money?! I usually leave large tips because I'm stingy on spending money on alcohol. I assume that's where a majority of the profits are made. Even the old guys at the bar wonder and assume the same. If you're visiting the area, strolling through downtown Mount Horeb, hiking at Donald Park or just passing through, Marcine's is worth the visit. read more

Small local bar with great pizza. Beer menu is very limited and other food is ok but the unique pizza and atmosphere is worth the trip.

Went for brunch last Sunday, opted for the pizza instead. Large pies were loaded with toppings and cheese. Sauce is mild but tasty, crust held up to all the toppings too. Pizzas and drinks were reasonably priced. We also tried a few apps... fried pickles, onion rings and cheese curds. If you're up for a drive check this place out. It wasn't busy when we went but I have a feeling it can get busy during more peak meal/drinking times. read more

Small town crossroads bars can be a hit and miss proposition if you aren't a "local." Marcine's has been a hit ever since she took over the place several years ago. Unlike previous owners this one has built a business which is welcoming to the whole community and is pretty family friendly. The lunch specials and nightly food specials are worth planning your schedule around. The unique and limited Sunday brunch buffet is a great way to get fed fast and cheap when you're on the go. And the drink prices are excellent, especially when you compare them to what you'll pay in Madison. The printed menu is limited, but they do everything on it well and augment it nicely with the specials, including a Friday fish fry. My wife and I aren't "regulars" but we don't hesitate to hit Marcine's whenever we're in the mood to go out for a drink or grab a decent sandwich for dinner. The five star rating is not because there aren't shortcomings. The building is old and the bathrooms are tiny. So is the kitchen, which is probably why the menu is perhaps smaller than average. When they're busy, you'll wait a bit for your plate to emerge from the kitchen. They get my five stars because they make the most out of what they have to work with, and the regular bartenders are all very friendly and attentive. This positive review is partly because we love having a decent bar & grill literally within walking distance in a rather remote rural village. It is mostly because Marcine and her crew have succeeded in making us feel like friends every time we walk in the door. To us, it doesn't get a whole lot better than that! read more

We went for wings about a year ago and they were great, make sure you order as much as you think you will eat the first time. They have a record of some 85+ wings being consumed by one person. I haven't been able to figure out all the hub-bub about Marcine's. I have stopped there on my way through half-a-dozen times over the last couple of years and there is nothing special about the place. Sure, its got that dive bar vibe, just like 50 other bars in area. Service is always on the slow side and they always seem to be under staffed. Pizza is good, but the wait is always longer the 30 minutes to get it. Saturday the wait was an hour and a half when the place was only two-thirds full. I am thinking they only have the one pizza oven. Hope they save up enough for a second one soon. read more

We have heard such great things but we have had terrible luck here. Last night was no different. Waited an hour (no exaggeration) for our 2 piece fried cod dinners. We had an obligation so I asked after 45 min how much longer and was told "this is normal, it's how long it's been taking tonight, 45-1 hr for fish"....if so, she should have told us when we ordered? I couldn't find any information online about the breakfast, but I can tell you that for sure on Sunday's, they offer a $5 a plate buffet. For $5, you can fill your plastic plate once from the buffet of french toast, eggs, potatoes, and sorted breakfast meat. Extremely impressed with Marcine's! We came in for $0.25 wing night (Wednesday) around 5:30 and the place was already packed. The bar definitely has a great country vibe to it, and is plenty bright and clean. After picking up a couple of very fair price beers we were seated pretty quickly. They have a number of flavors for wings, and we tried just about all of them -- the hot (swimming in sauce) and the dry rub chipotle were both really good. A word of warning: these wings are huge. I usually can hold my own when it comes to food, so I ordered 20, but I wasn't able to finish. They discourage carry-out, so try to not order more than what you might be able to finish. Marcine also apparently works most nights, so we ended up meeting her. She came over to the table, checked in on us, and told us a bit of the history of the place -- a real sweetheart. They have deals all throughout the week (tacos Tuesday, Friday Fish Fry, and a Sunday brunch)...and my family will definitely we giving those all a try. read more
