Friday May 22 we took a drive to Spring Green and stumbled upon a restaurant called "Reunion Family Barbecue" and we agreed it's probably one of the best meals out we have ever enjoyed! While we didn't try the BBQ we had such flavors like no other in the double smash burger and the smoked salmon (baked). The collard greens, grits, (best we have ever had!!) and french fries were all perfectly cooked, food was hot and our server, Rusty, was a pure delight! He was very knowledgeable and he had fantastic recommendations from the salmon to the delightful key lime pie we had for dessert! He was so attentive, but never intrusive. We saw on the sandwich board outside on the sidewalk, that the meats are wood smoked, and so we are already looking forward to trying those next time! We also noted they serve a weekend brunch on Saturday's and Sunday's until 2 pm... so that's also in our minds to check out and spread the word! Dairy free and gluten free items marked on their menu also.... very very highly recommended, they updated their menu about a year ago we were told... it's worth the drive! read more

I came here for a prix fixe menu experience on New Year's Eve, and I had a fantastic time. The place is so cool - it still has the old exterior of the Spring Green State Bank and a very cozy atmosphere that still makes you feel like you're back in the bank... just elevated. There was even a children's section where kids could play around and be supervised by a parent with a drink or something. Great classic kids books in there too -- love the Busy World of Richard Scarry. I would have given this a 5star review because my food was overall 5star, but there were just too many issues in timing and service and such not to make note of. This was an event where all tables were sat at the same time. Tables were getting their first appetizer before we even got our drinks, and our drinks didn't come out together at all. One person in our party had Celiac but they forgot to bring out a gluten free appetizer, so the rest of us finished our appetizer before she even got hers. Probably not what staff was used to with everything at the same time, I get it, it just wasn't a very good start. It was also freezing to start inside and I kept my jacket on through the first course. Then it warmed up. Old building with radiators, also totally get that, but if the seating was staggered and that front door kept opening, it would have been miserable. After our drinks and appetizers, timing worked out on the rest of the meals. Everything was wonderful and the menu was so thoughtfully laid out. The only other snafu was our secondi course of pappardelle with wild mushrooms had no mushrooms in it, like zero. The gluten free dish had a ton of them and looked really good. It wasn't worth bringing up given the timing issues, and even without the mushrooms the pasta was absolutely delicious. Scallops were cooked to perfection, though if the risotto had saffron in it I couldn't tell at all. Still, I didn't leave one single scrap on ANY of my plates. Despite any issues, the staff was so kind throughout and they were all obviously rushing around trying to get everyone everything they needed. Definitely worth a stop - the best/most interesting restaurant in town. In the bank building which has hosted several dining options in the past, this is maybe the best one so far. Our server Katie said the owners were from North Carolina, hence the focus on smoked BBQ. We did see a big magnificent smoker out back. Old fashioned was great. We tried the smoked chicken, the smoked brisket, and the smoked pulled pork; all were good, as well as the sides. Would surely return, and recommended it to our fellow visitors. read more

This was the best meal I've eaten in a long time! I started with the Reunion toddy, which was more interesting than the typical hot toddy. The pimento cheese biscuit was delightful and so large - I took half of it home. I got the green cabbage because my waitress told me it was more interesting than the cucumbers, and it was a great choice - I don't think I've had cabbage prepared like this before! The carrots were the best part - the fish caramel made for an incredible flavor, with a nice crunch from the cashews. The steak was perfectly prepared, though I had to take half of it home because I was quite full at this point and wanted to leave room for dessert. Then the bombolono was delightful - light and fluffy with lemon curd inside! The restaurant makes good use of the space. My only minor criticism would be that it's quite dim inside which made the menus difficult to read. But it was an incredible experience and well worth the 30-mile drive! read more

Our experience at Reunion matched so many others. The food was absolutely great. Who knew that a smash burger could be something to die for, that colurds could be something that you need more of, and the right key lime pie needs to be savored for as long as possible. In addition, we sat outside, which was wonderful, and had conversation with one of the owners about what they have created. All in all, a total treat. read more

WOW! After receiving a confirmation of our reservation, we were told due to a larger party, we would have to wait for a table or a place at the bar when space opened. In 45 minutes minimum . It's rare to go to a restaurant with friends, order a whole bunch of food to share, and every single dish is an absolute 10 out of 10 - but Reunion managed it! I've long been a fan of Homecoming, but this was my first visit to Reunion. The location used to be a bank, and has decor that is quirky and eclectic, while at the same time remaining classy. Our group was seated in the old vault. The restaurant (and bathrooms) were very clean, and the service was very friendly and helpful. Do note that the menu changes often to make use of fresh, in-season ingredients (many of which are grown on the owner's own farm), so when you go, some of these dishes will likely be replaced by others. We started with some cocktails and mocktails, all of which were excellent (Respect Your Elders was a particular favorite). For starters I highly recommend the Bread Service (moist, mouth-watering house made rye focaccia with a plate of olive oil and balsamic vinegar and herb butter). The Cheese Board is also superb (the house crackers alone would make it worth ordering!). The Vietnamese Wings are wonderfully flavorful and crispy, and a bit spicy. The Arancini and Cod Hashbrown are both crispy and fresh. The Mushroom may not have the most expressive name, but they were perhaps the best mushrooms I've every tasted - pan seared and served on a bed of whipper goat cheese with herbs and strawberry gastrique. The similarly laconically-named Beef is a plate of perfectly cooked steak served on potato puree with jus. We also tried the Fried Chicken Sando (super crispy!), the Papardelle, and the Agnolotti. Everything was astonishingly good - can't recommend highly enough! If you live in the Madison area, Reunion is well worth the trip. We had an absolutely stellar meal here a few weeks ago. Service was warm, attentive, and unpretentious and the ambiance was lovely. It seems like the menu changes frequently, so I can't make specific recommendations, but between the four of us, we ordered almost everything that was available for the day, and every plate was delicious and a treat for the eyes as well. We also worked our way through most of the cocktails on the menu, over the course of the meal. The drinks were well-balanced and tasty. The wine list had some unusual options and paired beautifully with the food. We will certainly make a point to return to Reunion the next time we're in town! read more

Full disclosure: I'm a local who has lived through several restaurant iterations in this space and have no personal connection to the owners. Being a brand new restaurant with only two other Yelp reviews so far, I thought it important to add another. They have been open less than a month (as of my writing in July, 2023), and yes, they are still working out some kinks, as every restaurant does. The other review that's on here about being out of food at 8pm is probably a reflection of that. I'm here to tell Yelpers that the food is delicious. The two big standouts from our order were the perfectly crispy Pork Schnitzel and Eggs Jeanette (think warm deviled eggs floating on a thin vinegary mustard sauce). Drag them through that delicious sauce. The pasta is also spot on with velvety pasta and a delightful crunchy topping. Not heavy at all. Service was very attentive. We had a main server and several runners that interacted with us, making sure our table was tidy and water was filled. There was a large party seated before us, so the staff kept in contact about our order, asked if we were in a hurry, and made us feel comfortable with the wait. Were there some little things (e.g., nobody described what the butters were until we asked)? Sure. But it didn't matter one bit for our experience. I look forward to seeing how this evolves, as it was a rush to get this open while tourists were seeking another dining option, and they are still running their other awesome restaurant Homecoming. There is clearly heart, talent and professionalism in this place and it has all the ingredients to become a major player in Wisconsin's farm to table restaurant scene. If you're a BBQ aficionado, you'll love Reunion. Carolina style BBQ done perfectly. I've had the brisket, ribs, smoked chicken and all were smoked to perfection. I really wanted to love Reunion on a Sunday night. The food was not as great as I had hoped - lacked distinct flavor and felt a bit muddled. The service was less than stellar and appeared to be mostly teenagers who had no interest in good service (ok - they are teenagers in their defense). We watched tables around us with the same issues - incorrect orders, slow service, and a general level of service consistent with a fast casual place. I guess we were expecting so much more. The service was very friendly, but slow. I expect a waiter/waitress to introduce themselves and provide their name but that didn't happen. The food was ok. And that was it. Both our main dishes - salmon and beef tenderloin were salty and distracted from the overall flavor of the meat. The deserts were dry (plum cake) but the coffee was good. Best part of this meal were the fingerling potatoes. I doubt we'll repeat. read more

The first thing I want to say is that none of the food pictured in another review were listed on the menu last night (August 10). That was a disappointment because those pictures are what sold us on celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary there. Reunion is a fairly "regular" restaurant--if you live 160 miles due East in Chicago. An old historic landmark bank building with marble pillars on the outside and an upscale, eclectic, eatery on the inside, this place is not typical for this part of Wisconsin--land of the old school, outdated and slightly seedy but acceptable Supper Club with "traditional" Midwest fare like medium-done prime rib, and lots and lots and lots of fish, all baked, broiled, or breaded and fried. You won't find any of that here. It's more like a cross between food as art and food as your husband's late night experiment in the kitchen. If you're not totally wedded to meat and potatoes and downhome cookin', it's worth a try. The charred roasted turnip in an oily but equally yummy sauce as a side dish was delicious and much better than my main course. Instead of a heavier main course, we chose lighter fare from the two primo courses offered. We each had a different meatless pasta dish. Mine was a tad starchy but appropriately al dente. It was supposed to have some kind of specialty mushrooms but change that to a singular mushroom and that's closer to the truth. My husband's thin, flat noodles (about 1/3 the size of linguine) arrived in an elongated clump. Untangling them with a fork was like trying to undue a knotted pile of thin gold chains with gloves on. It had plenty of flavor but most of it was from garlic applied with a very heavy hand. They say Italian food usually tastes better as leftovers. We'll soon find out... On the plus side: The olive dipping oil with lightly roasted garlic cloves was very good, and the dipping bread is house made. At first glance it looked like slices of zucchini bread. But, in fact, it was their own rye bread that takes two days to make. It comes with herb butter and pesto, both very good, as well. We ordered an appetizer of risotto balls (a little bigger than golf balls) stuffed with Italian cheeses, breaded and deep fried. They were firm and crunchy and tasty. I could see us sitting at the bar and having double orders of them with martinis, then maybe going to a local dive-bar for a burger afterword. I don't want to come off as being hard on this place. Lord knows this part of the state needs at least one or two restaurants where you can celebrate important life events with dignity. I just suspect that an over-represented number of fine, upstanding citizens reading this might be dyed in the wool cheese heads who prefer brats, beer, sweats, baseball caps, country music, and a game of darts in a room filled with impaled buck heads. So I want them to be forewarned: ditch the cap and keep an open mind and mouth and you'll be fine. read more

Thoughtful and attentive service from both the owner and Rusty (our server), regionallt sourced ingredients prepared perfectly, in a restored bank building. They have a well curated beer and wine list including local craft and seasonal beers. We had two different pasta dishes. The noodles seemed freshly made and the sauces were well balanced and seasoned. High ceilings and well-spaced tables gave us privacy, though the space has some ambient noise due to all the walls and reflective surfaces. Ours was an enjoyable dining experience at Reunion. The menu is brief, but "covers the bases" for farm to table fare. We split a cod hash brown appetizer with dill cream and it was delicious. Then we both selected the New York Strip, grilled perfectly to order (rare and medium rare, for us). We succumbed to a delightful dessert as well - the pate au choux with cream and bourbon cherries. Brad is the most attentive server! He is so good at explaining the dishes and has a lot of enthusiasm. We loved the carrots and they should be a staple on the menu. Reunion Spring Green is amazing. There are very few choices in the Sauk area for truly refined dining with amazing service. I would rank Reunion along with most other 4 star restaurants in the Madison area. I'm giving them 5 stars in this review because their service exceeds other comparable restaurants in the Madison area. We ordered the cheese plate, which shocked us (in a good way) when it came to the table. The portions were GENEROUS and the cheese was amazing. We also ordered the beef carpaccio and beet salad. Each were lovely and refined. We finished our meal splitting the shrimp and grits, and I love love loved it. I'm a bit of a shrimp and grits snob, seeking it out every time I visit a gulf state, and this is in the top 3 of my best shrimp and grits experiences. On top of food and service being excellent, it was a great date night place. It was very romantic and with the bustling environment on the Friday night we were there, we felt like we could comfortably have a conversation without other tables eavesdropping. Went with my son, his wife and my wife for dinner. My son had been there about a month before and had the hamburger and chicken sandwich. They said the size was big and good homemade french fries. My wife and daughter in law got the burger. It came out and they said that it was a lot larger last time. Found out it was a smash burger, which was not stated on the menu. It was good and the fries were good but not what they expected. On the other side, my son got the shortrib ravioli for $22 and I had the tubular pasta with cheese and a sauce for $20. What a disappointment. It was right when it said ravioli because it was only 1 very thin with not a lot of filling in the "ONE" ravioli. My pasta was 7 tubular pieces, almost the size of a thumb, maybe. On the one good point, the cocktails are good. My kids said that they probably never go back. Very diappointing. read more

This was my second time having dinner at Reunion. First time was after receiving a gift certificate, second time was because the first time was fantastic! The drinks were wonderful, I had a negroni, partner had a BOF. Both were strong and delicious. As an appetizer we had the polenta. OMG. So tasty. I wanted to pick up the plate and lick it but I resisted the temptation. Previously we had gotten the bread plate which was so good, but a lot of bread as an appetizer when there is more to come with the main meal. I would definitely get the bread again but maybe with a salad instead of an entree. The bread is delicious. Served hot in a cast iron skillet with delicious butter which sizzles in the pan inviting diners to dip the bread into the hot butter. Yum! Entrees were equally delicious. Fish fry and Hamburger. We took half the hamburger and fries home because we were stuffed. But, it was my birthday so had to have dessert. Crepe cake for the win! Service was perfect and bill came to $70 which included 2 drinks and dessert. Very much worth the price. I am a local and was resistant because I have loved a previous restaurant in the same building but I'm a confirmed fan now. Try it out. You won't be disappointed. read more

We are visiting friends in nearby Richland center. They made a reservation but could not get in til after 8pm. Let me begin by saying that the food we did eat was very good. Uniquely prepared with nice presentation. Our server, Abby, was gracious and fun. These were not the issues. The issue was, they had no food. Let me explain. 4 appetizers, out of two. Four main dishes, out of two. Only entrees left were a fish and a pasta, didn't want either, but had to order something . That was my mistake. I should have left. I know it's difficult in a farm to table restaurant to get the number of servings line up with the number of guests, but to bad, that's what you do. It's your job and you failed. While what we ate was good, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in quite a while. read more

Dined here Monday July 17. The restaurant was open Monday-Thursday only. As we were walking in, some other customers who were leaving told us the pork tenderloin was great and recommended we order it. 3 of our party of 4 planned to order it. We were told by our waitress Addie that they were out of the pork. As we looked over the menu, Addie told us they were also out of another entree, one of the salads, and 2 of the appetizers. Noting our displeasure she said, " this is worse for me than it is for you". Seriously??? Because it was a special occasion, we chose not to leave at that point---we should have. Our food was mediocre, our waitress just plain rude, and our bill over $180. I would seriously discourage anyone from going here until they get their act together. We were in Spring Green for a few days to see some plays at American Players Theater. We come every summer so know all the restaurants in town. Reunion had just opened (the owners are involved with Homecoming as well), and we wanted to try it so we made a reservation. There wasn't the rush we expected for a new restaurant, though it was about full of guests by the time we left to head to the theater. It is a pleasant space, but not much changed from how it was before as far as decor. The service was attentive. The drinks were excellent. We enjoyed sharing the deviled eggs appetizer. My schnitzel was good, but it had a lot of fried crust. Hubby did not care for the quality of his ribeye (tough though tasty). Overall, the food was good, but I am not sure it was worth the price (and we come from a big city with high prices overall). We agreed that there probably wasn't enough to draw us back. read more
