I'm only giving Baron's Cove upstairs restaurant a single star because the food was okay. NOTHING else about this restaurant is worth the time, energy or money. As a restaurant and business consultant, I understand my standards are high...but that is what I teach to businesses...KEEP YOUR STANDARDS HIGH! Baron's Cove,...you failed. When I walk into a restaurant, the server automatically starts his tip with me at 20%. That number can go up or down depending on service. Tonight our waiter got a $0 tip. Here are the multitude of things that were horribly wrong: 1) My wife and I were seated at a two-top in the middle of the room that was so crowded it barely gave the waiter any room to take our order without standing on top of me. After being seated for about 15 minutes, our drink order was finally taken at the same time as our food order. I had water and my wife asked for iced tea. After the initial drinks were delivered, refills weren't even an option unless you physically waived down our waiter to ask him. (Tip dropped to 18%) 2) When our food was finally delivered there was no offering of any ground pepper for the salad or even how our food tasted (never heard of the 2-bite check back?) and no offer to refill drinks. Oh, and by the way, a small salad with no meat in a small soup bowl should NEVER cost $22. (No-check back..tip dropped to 15%) 3) After an hour and a half of the slowest service on the planet, I thought maybe we were ready to leave, but my wife asked to see the dessert menu, and for a refill on her drink. That was a mistake. After waiting another 15 minutes, neither came. I finally had to ask the gentleman from downstairs who was trying to help out if we could just get our check...I was done (or so I thought...I'll explain in #4) (Never getting a dessert menu and STILL no refill, ..tip dropped to 10%) 4) Our server finally (no...FINALLY) brought our check over to us and when he did the table right next to us with a husband and wife and two young boys, called the waiter over and asked him where their drinks they had ordered 20 minutes prior were. (The family's drink order consisted of 2 Shirley Temples, a tap water and a seltzer with lime.) The waiter then proceeded to get an attitude with the wife at the table and to tell her that they were short staffed, that he was moving as fast as he could and that it wasn't his fault. He then proceeded to go into a 30 second explanation saying that the bartender from downstairs was even trying to help out. NOPE!! HUGE MISTAKE!! In the 2 minutes he stood there and gave every excuse as to why he didn't have their drinks yet, he could have said: "I'm so sorry, we are terribly understaffed and I apologize for the inconvenience...let me get those for you right now!" Instead, he verbally blasted the customer for asking for a glass of water while he was busy. (Failing to remember the customer is ALWAYS right and for the waiter being rude = 0% tip). Part of what I teach as a consultant is....Have a good PRODUCT (which you could do a little better on), have the right PROCESS (which you absolutely DO NOT) and remember the PEOPLE (and in your case this is the guests...whom you clearly forgot about). read more

My husband and I stayed here this past Friday night. We were looking for a cute, quiet get away for a night and an opportunity to explore Sag Habor. Our experience was pretty bad. We arrived Friday night and went to check in. There were 3 staff members in the check-in area all wearing their masks under their noses. We had purchased the breakfast package and a room with a private patio. The room was cute, and clean and we were excited to be there, until nighttime. From approximately 8pm-2am all we heard were the guests above us walking back and fourth on the wooden balcony to get to their room. It was so noisy that despite it being cool enough to sleep without the AC we turned it on in hopes to drown out some of the noise. Neither my husband nor myself slept more than 3 hours. The next morning, at 7:30 (the time they state the restaurant and room service opens) I called to order the breakfast we had paid for. No one answered the phone until 7:50. I was then told I called the wrong number, though I dialed the number listed on the provided sheet. I asked how the breakfast package worked, and then man said he didn't know but would find out. He told us that when we check out, they will subtract the $40 credit. We placed an order and were told it would be 20 minutes. About 20 minutes later, a staff member came to the door and stated that "because we didn't answer our phone" (the room phone didn't work....) he wanted to tell us they were out of french toast and would we take pancakes? Sure, no problem. Approximately 1 hour since I had initially called we still did not have our food. I called again and the food arrived shortly thereafter. I asked again about the credit, and the man had absolutely no idea what I was talking about and told us to sign for the bill. The pancakes came with chocolate chips in them (we were not told of this when we ordered) and no syrup, thus I had to call again. The breakfasts were ice cold and possibly the worst breakfast my husband and I ever had. At this point, we decided this experience was bad enough and decided to check out around 9 am. When we got to the check out, there was no breakfast credit on the bill, and she was unsure as to why we weren't told to sign the room number on the bill. She asked how our stay was and I explained that it was pretty loud and unenjoyable. She stated "oh yea it can be a little noisy." She offered us a 10% rebate for our experience, which in my opinion given what we paid was honestly not enough. Needless to say, we will never be back and I will be sure to advise people to not waste their money here. read more

Went for Saturday breakfast with a party of 6 and a baby. They sat us upstairs inside the spacious and bright dining room that overlooked the terrace and the bay. Our waiter was so gracious and overall the service was great. The food was typical breakfast fare (eggs, pancakes, French toast etc) and was reasonably priced given the location. I've been to the restaurant several times and it was fine - overpriced but the food was adequate. Last night, however, we had one of the worst dining experiences of our lives. The restaurant was not crowded (now we know why) but the service was abysmally slow; we sat a long time before our drink orders were even taken. Then, after waiting more than an hour for our entrees, when the food arrived the pan-seared salmon was cold and completely raw in the center. The Montauk skate tasted like the frozen fish cakes mothers serve to 6-year-olds, but was oversalted and covered with an inedible slop. We should have left then but sent the salmon back (twice) to try to get the gelatinous frost out of the center. Adding insult to injury, the proprietor came over to condescendingly explain that we were just too unsophisticated to appreciate the chef's brilliance. (We're not. We lived in NYC for 35 years and have eaten in fine restaurants here and abroad.) I'm guessing it's tourists who want to eat overlooking the harbor who keep this overpriced place in business. read more

We stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate our anniversary. They even treated us to some beautiful chocolate covered strawberries. Everyone was wonderful, and the staff was so attentive. We didn't walk past one person who didn't smile and say hello. They really understand the service industry and help to create a relaxing experience. The pool attendants set your chair up nicely with a smile and make sure you always have a cold glass of water. We took the bikes out twice and that staff was also lovely ensuring we had the perfect fit and recommendations on where to go. We ate breakfast here one morning, which was pricey, but well worth it. The bar staff was friendly and on Wednesday evening they had an amazing jazz show. We loved everything about our stay and plan on returning for our anniversary next year! read more

Has to be managed a bit better: a mangy decrepit (non-service) dog is at the bar, immaculately clean see his shedding hair blown across the new distressed floors. This review is of the outdoor patio only, where we *used* to spend nearly every Sunday evening in the summer listening to music and enjoying the craft cocktails. Not anymore, apparently. This season, someone made inexplicable decision to scale back the cocktail list to just 5 extremely basic, unappealing cocktails (margarita, mojito, Moscow mule, etc., with not a single interesting flavor or ingredient among them)...at $16 a pop. What a shame that our Sunday-night hangout doesn't seem to be interested in operating as one of the Hamptons' best craft cocktail bars anymore. Even the blood orange margarita across the street at Beacon is more interesting than the sad little drink list at Baron's Cove. read more

First, I have to say that the food and ambiance is great. There's a great view of the water and my eggs benedict / home fries were on point. Everything else was awful. The service was terrible. When we came in, one of my friends informed the hostess that she had Crohn's disease and asked if they had a gluten-free menu. I've never seen someone so bougie act so confused about the phrase "gluten-free." She had wide eyes and said "uhhh... we don't have that here?" then scurried away. That is definitely one way to inspire confidence in the food there. Granted, another waitress / or maybe the manager came over to discuss gluten-free options with more confidence. But that's not a great way to start a dining experience. Our waiter only came to us one time and that was to take our order. He never checked up on us. One of my friends asked for jam with her food and that never came. We had to shout for our waiter across the room as he refused to make eye contact with us or come anywhere near us - and that was just for a coffee refill! We were there for way longer than we wanted because everyone was refusing to come over and check on us. We begged for our check while we were eating because we knew it would take forever to come (and we were right). We immediately put our cards in and no one took it. We ended up physically getting up and finding someone to give our check to. They insisted that we sit down and that they would take care of it. Unsurprisingly, they did not take care of it. After 15 minutes, we got up again to figure out what they were doing with our cards and a very flustered man refused to give our cards back until he found more pens. It doesn't matter. We do not need more pens. To top it off, three friends were splitting the cost of a $70 meal. When I checked my bank statement, I got charged for $70 AND the divided cost. Because it's still processing, I'm hoping that they realized their mistake and will not charge me the $70. I have low hopes however - nothing I've seen has inspired confidence in their abilities. read more

What a horrible dining experience. When spending 100 per person on a meal, one has a certain level of expectations, however, the caliber of service we experienced was that of an Applebee's at best. We started with a drink at the bar, where there was an electric fan blowing directly toward two of the seats. When asking to turn it off, we were told that it was necessary for fruit flies.... hmm. The real climax came with the dinner itself. We were constantly being told after a 45-minute wait time after appetizers that our entrees were coming soon. Once we finally received (most) of them, two entrees were missing. Instead of proactively comping drinks or offering additional dishes while waiting, we had to ask the staff, literally, "what the hell?" It was only then that we were told these entrees were forgotten and in turn would be removed from the check. Again, going to back to the $100+ per person caliber, why is that something the patrons should have to be asking about? Another 45 minutes later, the last of these two missing entrees was brought to the table. The medium well steak was rare, and immediately sent back for additional wait time. Meanwhile, majority of the food was good with the exception of the steaks. It turns out that at Baron's Cove, medium rare is raw and medium well is rare. We asked to speak to a manager to be told a manager wasn't present, and that the Sommelier was most senior. What restaurant doesn't have a manager present on a Saturday night in peak season?? I think this was the real flaw - the waiter was very nice, but where were the checks and balances for service and order timeliness/accuracy typically overseen by a manager? You might be reading this thinking this has happened to people before, which is true. However, the way it's handled from a management perspective is typically more proactive. Before booking I read reviews which raved about the Barons cove renovations and I knew that I had to try it out. The hotel is a few minutes from restaurants, the sag Harbor Main Street and the jitney/ bus stops which is convenient for out of town travelers. The hotel was lovely and quaint. Our bed and pillows were so comfy. It was very romantic and I highly recommend for couples as well. We stayed in room 150 which was by the gardens and has a nice outdoor seating area. While we only had drinks at the bar and snacks and did not try the restaurant, we can attest that everything was high quality and everyone seemed pleased. I loved the rocking chairs outside and comfy seats and couches indoor. The lounge chairs by the pool were awesome and we wish we had better weather on our first day to dip into the pool. My favorite party was renting the free bikes and going to the beach. The bikes are amazing quality. I highly suggest that everyone do this. It was the highlight of the trip for us. Also, there's a small gym for hotel guests and tons of running and walking paths. I Would highly recommend this location for the great location, service and amenities. We had to call room service and they were attentive. The concierge was very helpful as well and all employees were always helpful, cheerful and nice. You will definitely want to return to this tranquil slice of heaven! I'm already booking for late summer/ fall. read more

My family and I just returned last night from our 4 day stay at Barons Cove Sag Harbor. We're very familiar with the area and have rented homes in Sag Harbor and surrounding towns for many years. Due to Covid we were left to explore new avenues as all home rentals were taken months in advance. The property is centrally located right behind Main St, which is very convenient and even better that there is ample on-site parking. The grounds were well maintained, everything appeared well kept and fresh with lots of beautiful hydrangeas throughout. We booked a Harbor view Loft, which boasted 'ocean views'. All lofts are located on the 2nd floor just above the pool area and the harbor view overlooks just that- a boat harbor; while not 'ocean views' it is still very nice. We were pleasantly surprised with how large the loft was, which afforded my family of 3 plenty of space to lounge and not feel like you were too cramped. The king size bed above was very comfortable , and the trundle bed in the couch worked out great. Our issues with our stay were not with the property as we felt everything was well appointed and most importantly, properly sanitized and clean. We would definitely rate the property and our room a 4/5 stars. The only thing we would change is better air conditioning in the top loft, or even a ceiling fan because it gets very hot! Our issues were that the property seems poorly managed. I'm not sure if it's due to lack of staff and/or if they're dealing with an unprecedented influx in guests. Check-in day we received a text confirmation letting us know they were flexible but that we were slated for a 4pm arrival. We arrived in the lobby at 3pm seeing if we could luck out with early access. We were given our room number & keys but were told that housekeeping was still tending to the room and was on track for us to take entry at 4pm but that we would be receiving a follow up text to confirm. 4:20 rolls around- no text and no update, 4:30 comes , we call the front desk; housekeeping is still in the room they need another 15 minutes, 4:45 comes and we still see housekeeping outside of our room. 5pm comes and we see our room door open but decide to take a peak inside to see the status. The cleaning crew seemed to be done as they were waiting outside with our door open; not sure why, but they were pleasant and told us we could go inside. We began to unpack and quickly noticed we had no electricity on our main floor, and not a single light bulb in both our bathroom, entry way or above our bar. We walked back to the front desk to be told that it we were incorrectly given access to the room and it was not yet ready (it was now 5:30, check in was at 4). Chuck at the front desk switched us to a 'new' room from 201 to 211, gave us new keys and sent us on our way- low and behold, room 211 was still occupied! Now, they're at full capacity and there are no rooms to switch to. We go back to 201 and we're told an electrician has been called. Luckily, they were able to resolve our issue, and by 6:30 pm we had a new manager (cant remember her name, but she was nice enough) let us know everything was taken care of and accommodated us for the situation. The pool service staff is very friendly and accommodating 5/5 stars, housekeeping is fantastic and very sweet 5/5 stars, the waitstaff at their restaurant were surprisingly unfriendly and the service was less then mediocre at all our dining experiences there. However, our continued disappointment was in the front desk. They are impossible to reach, (a work around to this is call the restaurant & be transferred), but they were just monumentally unhelpful, unaccommodating and unpleasant. The final straw was an issue at check out, we were told by Stephanie the day prior that check out is at 1, and late check outs can be accommodated if the hotel is not at capacity. On our last day when we inquired about checking out late for the day, we were now told our check out has changed from 1 to 12, and they cannot accommodate an extension. After a brief banter with Stephanie, she was willing to adjust our check out back to 1. This property would be much better served with more experienced front desk staff, and better communication with their guests. We enjoyed the property, so we would stay again, but are hopeful that new staffing takes place in the mean time. ** also, helpful tip, the pool opens at 8am, in order to snag a lounge chair and umbrella, you need to be there no later than 8:10am, literally. Or, find a nice staff member and tip them generously to reserve and set up a spot for you. read more

The new Baron's Cove Restuarant offers fine dining, gorgeous view of the harbor, and impeccable customer service. I hosted a dinner party for 15 women. Ben, the restaurant manager was courteous, and knowledgeable. Our head waiter, Scott was super attentive. The food was delicious. The portions were generous. We dined in the private dining room which was comfortable, and perfect for the occasion. Sag Harbor has an impressive list of restaurants. I chose Baron's Cove because an off duty employee, Jose, spoke so favorably about his workplace. He appeared to genuinely take pride in the quality of food and drinks. He spoke highly of his co-workers and management. He assured me that I would enjoy eating there. He was absolutely right. The prices are a bit high. I'm saving up to go back for more. read more

So sad to have to leave this review as I have had lovely stays at Barons Cove in the past. I had to cancel all future bookings for myself and family because of 1 terrible interaction with the staff. I had a 1 night Thursday booking that unfortunately had to be canceled for work, but the staff absolutely refused to give me a credit for a night. I was not asking for a refund, but simply a courtesy credit as a repeat customer. I have never cancelled before in ANY of my bookings and was actually scolded by the booking agent for not cancelling sooner. Obviously I called as soon as I knew I had to cancel, but it fell on very rude deaf ears. I was as respectful as always to the agent, who was so incredibly inflexible I wondered why they even have humans at the call center. For a hotel that claims to be a luxury destination, they should take a lesson in customer relations as I now have had to cancel all future bookings, as well as, my friends. The Hamptons are a very small place and a bad reputation unfortunately spreads quickly when there is plenty of competition in the area. Absolute shame as Barons had been a pleasant destination, but we now have to move on to another hotel for all future stays. Hopefully they receive better training in the future in customer service. read more

Went to Baron's Cove Inn and found the hotel portion to be nice. The rooms are not deluxe, but very comfortable. The staff was very courteous and friendly. Just like in Donna T.'s review, the problem we had was with the restaurant and bar. Admittedly this was December 24 - but the service was anything but acceptable and they had a full hotel on a day when most restaurants were closed - so they should have been prepared. In the bar we sat for "happy hour" which is a misleading term. The room is very nice and cozy, but the prices are extremely high. The specialty drinks are $10 - but the regular drinks are higher than in Manhattan and the prices are no where to be found. $18 for a regular martini. We ordered a cheese platter to go with our drinks and it was good - again overpriced. When it arrived there were no plates and no knife to cut the cheese. We had to go to the bar to ask the bartender for utensils. Next to us was a family and when one of the kids dropped her fork of macaroni and cheese the server came over and gave a new fork - but left the spilled pieces of macaroni on the floor. The restaurant was, again, nicely appointed. However, the service and the food was not acceptable. One of the specialities is cassoulet - for which they said you had to wait 20 minutes so it could be made. It came out partially frozen. The top was so hard the fork had to be pushed in and the meat was so cold it was obvious this had been made long time ago and was siting in the refrigerator. When another one was brought to me it had two small pieces of sausage, a few small pieces of lamb and the rest - around 80% - was beans and gravy - all at $37. As far as service, no one came by to see if our water glasses were full and we had to flag down a server running by to get some water. The next morning we went to breakfast. There was one server who was acting as maitre D' and server and waiter and partially as the busboy, while the restaurant filled up. Table after table sat waiting for someone to take an order and then to get their food. Then they added the busboy who was supposed to help delivering dishes - but he wound up walking from table to table asking if the food he was carrying was theirs - long enough where I know it was cold by the time it was delivered. Finally, they recruited 2 more people to help - but by that time breakfast was over so all they did was clean up. read more

Sat at the bar and waited a couple of minutes, and watched one bartender walk away looking at his cell phone. Waited for the second bartender to help us and instead he proceeded to help the person who was standing behind me that had arrived five minutes after me. We walked out, not a word was said. They did a great job at the restaurant for phase 2 reopening. The outdoor seating is beautiful and felt special and not like a plan B to create social distancing. All servers wore masks and the service was so nice and wonderful. Dinner was awesome- asparagus cacio Pepe, scallops with corn, shrimp cocktail, and the smoked fish dip with bagel chips. To start out on a positive note the down stairs bar is wonderful. Truly one of the best places to sit back and relax with a drink in sag harbor. The staff is Savvy and helpful. The inside bar is lush and sophisticated while the patio outside gives you the option to watch the sun set over the marina. The happy hour doesn't hurt either. With such good experiences downstairs I decided to book in the restaurant. Again, the setting is lovely. The four of us all ordered different appetizers and entrees and I can not say a single dish stood out or was even remotely enjoyable. The short of it is that the food was poorly cooked and the execution was Ameritech. Our waitress was new and trying very hard which I appreciate, but in general when I go to a restaurant that charges $40 a main I hope that my server has general knowledge of food, wine and liquor which she did not. One of our party also asked for a liquor list, which they didn't have so he asked for a recommendation. The waitress came back with a $40 glass of whiskey without confirming this with him first. Incredible staff, they are so kind! I had recently driven up from Florida and arrived in Sag Harbor at around 4 AM. Nothing was open and I was famished so I stumbled into the lobby asking if they had a piece of bread for me. They came out with a beautiful bagel and ham spread! Class acts. read more

We had an incredible stay here. Our room was cozy and functional. Smallish but well designed, with a nice bathroom, great shower and incredible bed/bedding - all the things that really matter. The restaurant had some of the best food we had in the area. The service (at the restaurant) was a little slow, but that seems to be the pace around the Hamptons in general. Loved the cozy little bar and lounge area, and the bartender was excellent, making a custom drink at my request. The pool area is basic but nice, great for kids. Nothing over the top, but perfect for hanging out with a good book. One of the best things about Baron's Cove is its location - nestled right in Sag Harbor, with lots of shopping and dining within walking distance. Not a bad drive to Montauk either. read more

I celebrated Eater here with my Mom and my wife. The food and service were excellent, the only disappointing thing was the size of the entree was kind of small. My wife and I both had the beef roast and my Mom had the lamb, both of which were being offered for Easter at a price of $34 each. We went here for Thanksgiving. The dinner was amazing. The food was excellent, especially the roast duck - a lovely variation on Thanksgiving instead of Turkey. The dinner and bar service was awesome. We stayed the night too, the room was pretty. The only issues - it was expensive - but then again what did we expect, so OK fine. I was quite annoyed that the cleaning lady just walked into my room WITHOUT knocking at 9.30am, finding me wrapped in a towel asking "whaaaa?". Yeah, don't pretend to be a top notch fancy place and then do that. read more

Absolutely love this place! From the food to the decor, the entire experience is wonderful! My girlfriend and I try to go once a year during off-season and we are always pleased. The first time we stayed we were given a loft room so we were nervous that we wouldn't be as happy when we stayed in a smaller room the second time around however, we were not disappointed, both rooms were beautiful. This Bar/ restaurant never seizes to amaze me. They have the most beautiful spot in Sag Harbor however the food is awful,!the staff has absolutely NO training ( not there fault) they don't clean off tables, Never Ever come back to check on you? I just don't get it?? We keep going back because we live here but it's just so disappointing.. Please get some professional management! read more

Really wouldn't recommend this place. We went there because someone had recommended the eggs Benedict, but when we got there they were only serving lunch. The menu was really boring and all the interactions we had with the staff had been pretty awful (they all acted as if working there was the last place they wanted to be). Went to on a quiet Tuesday night. Started off with a beer limited selection. Ordered the beet salad it was very good but the portion size was ridiculously small. For my main corse I got the duck it was flavorful but dry so was the spinach it was on top of. The quinoa was cooked properly but sweat. My date for the fish stew and it was good, she got the burger and it was okay nothing special. The service was poor, never checked in after putting the food down till we got his attention for the check. Hostess was hot and very kind as well was the bartender. We arrived at 7:25 for our 7:30 reservation.we were told we would need to wait 10 minutes for our reservation for six people.we weren't seated until after 8pm which was the start of the agony ! Our waiter brought the menus and didn't see him for almost a half hour.When he finally arrived and we told him that the hostess said the first round of drinks was on the house due to our long wait. His response was she didn't have the authority to do that ! When the food finally arrived it was average at best.when our waiter arrived for the second time of the evening to give us our check,he made a point to say he took the drinks off the bill.the automatic 20 % tip on the bill was undeserved.This was 10:30 pm,3 hours after arrival. The rudeness and lack of service,combined with a loud atmosphere and average at best food will not have us return. As residents of the area for over 25 years we all agreed it was the WORST dining experience ever,and would NEVER return. There are many restaurants in the area that put this one to shame. read more
