You can tell she has a dance background, and it shows in how well she paces the class and how clear her cueing is. She paid close attention to form throughout, which I always appreciate in a pilates class, and her music selection was great too. Looking forward to catching her class again! The location is also a real plus -- right in the Clarendon-Ballston corridor, equidistant from both the Clarendon and Virginia Square metro stops. And the 4pm Sunday time slot is great: it lets you sleep in on the weekend and still get your workout in. Starting the week having already met an exercise goal really helps me set the right tone going into Monday.

Over the holidays I tried a hot pilates class with friends, so I started giving a few studios a try. Initially, when I saw Mind the Mat offered a HAWT Pilates for Beginners, I was ESTATIC. However upon further review of the HAWT Pilates class offering, the description said the class wasn't really for beginners. So sadly I opted not to enroll in any classes BUT THEN(!!) MTM had the awesome idea to offer a beginner version and I enrolled immediately (at least I think it's fairly new)! When I arrived at the studio there were multiple classes going on and the "lobby" area was full of classgoers coming and going into various classes. The beginner instructor, Erika, called for all newbies to head over to the studio where class was offered - which was great because there was no front desk staff. Once in the room you were immediately embraced with the muggy temperature that hot classes are known for. I put my items into a free cubby and started setting up. This class was completely full so we were all comfortably close. Erika came around and checked us in as we started setting up so that class could begin on time. The class itself was AMAZING. Although lots of classes sometimes say they are beginner friendly, it can be hard to learn the fundamentals. What I loved about beginner HAWT pilates is it really walked up through the different movements and taught us how to breathe correctly and what it means to scoop your belly. I can say with certainty I was doing it all wrong before! Although the class wasn't the most challenging it was EXCELLENT for beginners and is the perfect introduction to pilates. Erika was very friendly and was able to offer corrections to everyone and ensure you were truly learning. I can't say enough positive things about the class and studio! My only "negatives" are that 1. There is no water for purchase so should you forget a bottle you're out of luck and 2. I wish the beginner's class was offered on more days and times. Nonetheless I highly recommend the studio and have had a blast at the classes I have attended! Thanks Erika and MTM!

The Ballston studio is great at mixing up workouts and classes as well as engaging with their members through happy hours or the themed classes. The studio is clean and the coaches, manager and other staff are always so friendly. The coaches are a great source of encouragement during the class and make it a point to demonstrate correct and safe form while conducting the workouts. They offer a 45 minute lift class as well as a 90 minute weekend class in addition to their regular 60 minute classes. Coming from AZ I'm used to the rooms being fully air conditioned. The management was not great as I was informed as a visitor that I'd be paying an extra fee to take the class once I was already en route in an uber. It would have been nice to have been informed that their studio was a level 5 and that I would be charged beforehand. I spoke with the manager after the class to explain my situation and she didn't seem to care. Being a long time OTF member with many visits to studios across the country my first time visit to this studio did not leave the best impression.

The bathrooms and locker rooms are well-designed and clean, and the co-ed sauna and steam room are a major plus. The filtered water stations are always cold and well-maintained, and the smoothie bar is convenient. The reception staff are always friendly! SweatBox is intense, well-structured, and thoughtfully run. The music and variety keep me coming back. Providing ear plugs and cold eucalyptus towels are the many small touches that go a long way during this high-energy HIIT workout. Coach Gwen and Coach Mike are excellent instructors -- clear, motivating, and attentive to form. There are 3 other class studios and dozens of more fitness classes. I have enjoyed the yoga classes, especially Restorative and Deep Stretch. Chris also runs a great BodyPump class -- strong pacing and consistent energy. Overall, VIDA Ballston combines diverse programming with quality facilities and good service. Yes things break or require maintenance, but the team is constantly communicating this and working to upkeep their facility. Highly recommend!

They have a wide variety of gym equipment and weight, squat racks, etc. they also offer personal training, which I have met a few of the trainers who are super nice and welcoming. It's great to workout at a gym where you are welcomed and get to know the front desk and staff. Overall, would highly recommend.

The coaches are so positive and motivating, as well as thorough in their pre workout demonstrations and make those small corrections in our movements that make all the difference in our results and the burnnn! The HIIT circuits are setup so nicely, flowing through about 10 different stations and leaving the whole body worked by the end of the class. These classes are pretty solid for building muscle but you're not going to get huge or insanely strong with this style of workout. This will be more for toning muscle/athletic build as well as gaining functionality and work capacity. It's nice that it's all based on time rather than numbers so everybody can go at their own pace. However, if you really want to push yourself as hard as possible, then I'd say this targets the heart and lungs more than anything, and health is what it's really all about. This is even true in the resistance classes, which you always leave with a serious pump. The weights you're using aren't as heavy as CrossFit which mostly allows for you to push yourself in a safer and higher paced manner and there's more variance in exercises and movements than Orange Theory without the concern of running injuries so while all of the big name HIIT enterprises have some advantages, I believe F45 is the best because it has the most well-rounded diverse stimulus mentally and physically and therefore has the most potentially for truly being "in-shape", healthy, functional, and athletic because you're more motivated to consistently train hard and allowed to do so while staying injury free. If I have to knock it I'd say that some of the exercises are more body building oriented (fly's and curls) than I'd like, but most are also performance based. I will also admit, if this were my only training then I'd definitely like to have heavier weights on resistance days because those end up mostly being muscle endurance for me (which ultimately is more important than raw strength if I'm forced to choose). I'd also appreciate a little more sprinting but I know that greatly increases the injury risk so I understand the omission there. Also if there was more space, I would love to incorporate something more explosive like med ball throws and rope climbs. All in all though, considering the energy in there, the results you'll get from start to finish only sacrificing 45 minutes to make the rest of your day better, and possibly even have another little social outlet, this place is great!

The staff are great, very friendly and informative of anything you could ask about fitness wise. The gym itself is a nice size and the way everything is sectioned is organized very well. Lots of free weights, benches, squat racks, machines, anything you could think of, it's there. A plethora of equipment and anything to get your body active and moving. The cardio area is awesome because of all the windows so you don't feel like you're just in a dark walled in space getting active. It's a nice touch for sure. I know they are currently renovating the space below the gym to accommodate for more equipment which I'm excited for. The gym is clean, the locker room is clean, always seeing the cleaning staff hard at work which keeps my mind at ease. The other nice thing is the parking garage is located right there too, so it's an easy walk to get into the gym and the cost is cheap for the hours I put in there. Couldn't be happier with my experience so far. Thanks for your business!
