I love how there is a dress code. The only downside is how hard the floor is. But great workouts and great instructors.

I think this review is way too long overdue and I have to do one now after taking classes here since August of 2018. I'm giving 4 stars because they don't provide towels in class to wipe your sweat off lo, there's no showers here, and only one studio. The classes fill up quick because there's only one studio so you have to book in advance or go on the waitlist especially for popular classes and weekend classes. But they have 2 bathrooms, a water fountain, a dressing room, and a few stools to sit on. I used to go to barre studios in Clarendon which started to become difficult due to parking. This is when I realized that I need to find another barre studio to go to with available parking nearby because I like working out right after work and I have my car with me. I found Pure Barre Pentagon City (PBPC for this review). There are street parking available but they are not free. There is also the Whole Foods parking garage you can use. Then the metro is there too which is about 3 blocks walk. It's right next to Whole Foods for reference. I started doing the trial and soon moved into me purchasing a 12-month unlimited membership. It escalated quickly like that. There are a couple of classes offered. Normal schedule classes Classic - regular 50 mins class Empower - more cardio-centered as it includes HIIT exercises. You use wrist/ankle weights, free weights (about 2-5 lbs), and a platform. This is a very challenging class and great if you are trying to lose weight. Reform - this is the new class and uses stretch bands attached to the walls and sliders. Special classes Intensive classes - pretty self explanatory Foundations class - classes that focuses on perfecting your movements so that you can get the full caloric burn during class I have tried all of the normal schedule classes and let me tell you, it doesn't get easier every time I do it. Not all teachers have the same playlist and movements so you won't get bored. I usually take the classic regularly and Empower about 1-2 times per week. I just took Reform for the first time yesterday and I am so sore. I thought I was going to die during Empower or Reform but I live every time so it's not that bad. Plus you feel great right after for accomplishing something difficult! They do student discounts so inquire with the manager if you are interested. I personally like my membership because it's unlimited. Yes, it's very expensive but I see this as an investment to myself and my health so it's worth it for me. I love my teachers, my personal favorites are Haley (she challenges me a lot in my classes), Tina (she usually teaches the 6pm class that I always take), and Alex. But I love all the teachers, they are all very helpful and challenges you during workout. And they know my name which I love and I feel super welcomed every time I come and leave. My favorite is when they praise you in class and you're just like YES!!! Since August (3 months in), I have noticed that I have gotten a lot stronger. I have gotten better at spinning class too because I have more stamina to cycle - all thanks to Pure Barre. I spin and do barre for my workout because I just think the gym is boring. I did the 20 out of 30 days September challenge and wow I was so proud of myself. I went like 12 days straight working out at barre and they do fun challenges to push yourself! I love that about PBPC. Everyone that I work out with seems like they love the place! The milestones you get are 100 classes, 250, and 500 classes. I hope to get my first milestone next year! I joined the Pure Barre health club one month ago. It has being a wonderful experience that helped me to stay stronger. Instructors are very motivated and stay connected with each individual during a class. They always try to show you correct way to exercise. Low-impact rehabilitation movements with combination of weight-based strength training started helping me to develop muscular strength after recent injury. After each class I feel empowered by energetic music and barré exercise. Barre instructors remember names of individuals and they genuinely care about their clients. read more

I can't say enough great things about this studio! My home Pure Barre is in Tampa but i travel quite often and am always excited to try a new studio while on the road. This was by far the most friendly and cleanest i have visited! Lauren the manager immediately knew my name and was so welcoming. I was lucky enough to by only get an Empower class (the more cardio driven class) but to also get new choreography! After class everyone was polite and showed me where to our our supplies back. Bonus points if you are an out of town pure barre member you can ask about their traveler package. This is now the 4th Pure Barre studio I've visited- I know, I'm a Barre hopper :) I came in through Class Pass and was welcomed quickly and filled out my waver form. First impressions was the studio was decorated quite trendy and had an open feel. I like that they had a coffee maker and a place to recycle water bottles. I've seen through Yelp they even do an occasional HH and that really stood out to me! The class itself was pretty standard- I am pretty familiar with the flow. The instructor was pretty nice and I'm not sure if I'm just new or my form was OK but she didn't provide much feedback to me personally- that's fine! The class was a good mix of people and every seemed very friendly. Location of this studio is also a huge plus because it's right next to a Whole Foods so you can get your healthy post workout meal just steps away! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place! The studio, instructors, and classes are great! The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable; they correct you on your form and keep the classes high energy and enjoyable. The studio is well kept and clean. Also, I would recommend buying grip socks ($15 at the studio), so you don't slide with the footwork. I've been going to 3-4 classes a week, and even though the instructors may be the same, there's a new move or technique I learn every time! Every class feels different, making this one of my favorite workouts. The class is for everyone, in that the instructors suggest modifications to make it harder or easier for your body. I've been going for a month and feel stronger, more flexible, and I always feel great after leaving the class! Pricing wise, the first week is free (there's no harm in trying it out)! Then there's an intro month for $99. They also sell package classes (10 or 20 classes) and single classes ($27). There's metered parking around the studio, but it's free after 6pm and on weekends. read more

I can't say enough good things about Pure Barre Pentagon City! I started out slow - taking 1 class every 1-2 weeks when I moved to Crystal City 3 years ago. I hit my 100th class at the end of August 2020 and I just finished the fall fit challenge yesterday (30 classes in 60 days). I love the teachers, the space, the community and how supportive & nice everyone is. They are doing an amazing job during COVID-19 (small classes, mask class options for those who want them, spacing participants 10 ft apart for all classes, lots of cleaning, tons of virtual class options)! Even if you think you are not someone who can do Barre (I get it, I didn't think it was for me at first), they will help you get there and make it fun in the process. This pure barre just turned 3 years old and it's conveniently located near the Pentagon City metro and ample urban fixtures including Whole Foods, Commonwealth joes coffee, fancy shmancy apartments that look like hotels, you get the vibe. I've loved pure barre for years, but it's steep price tag and boutique class hours haven't been something I could swing. But still, in a workout rut, and knowing that I need to recharge myself, I lucked into buying one of their flash promotions on a pack of classes. This location ran a Valentine's Day special of 14 classes for $14/class. The fact that they offer 4:00pm weekday classes twice a week sealed the deal. That's the only time I can work out when I'm done with work and still have childcare. This is amazing!!! And heads up boutique gyms-- there are a lot of us who love 4pm weekday classes!!! What has set this pure barre apart for me is the owner Lauren. She clearly makes a huge effort to get to know everyone. She had my name down by my second class and made me feel comfortable enough to actually stick around after and ask for help w respect to certain moves. I've been doing Pure Barre for 2+ years and absolutely love the workout, intensity of the classes, and general affect it's had on my health (physically and mentally)! I was visiting a friend last weekend and she had a guest pass so I joined her on Saturday for the 9:30am class. The Pentagon City Pure Barre location is awesome. A great retail selection, clean studio (a roomba was even going when we walked in), and not only quite a few snack/drink options for purchase but also lotion/makeup remover/etc. in the bathrooms which I really appreciate. The teacher and barretender were at the desk when we walked in and were so friendly and welcoming right away. The check in process was super easy and even though I've taken Pure Barre before the teacher still took time to make sure I didn't have any questions and checked to see if I had injuries. True to most Pure Barre locations, the teacher also remembered my name throughout class. I can't say enough how much the attention and appreciation the studios have for you means -- it makes a huge impact when you're paying quite a bit for classes. The workout itself is TOUGH, and it doesn't really get "easier" (I guess you learn to keep pushing yourself even after you get the hang of it!) but 2 years later and I'm still seeing positive changes with my body and strength. I was skeptical of these kinds of classes before I went and now I understand why people love this workout. The first class is free and I felt very lost at first, but the upbeat music and the instructor helped immensely. It is an interesting mix of cardio, stretching, and yoga. Boyfriend and I decided to try a barre class together. Him athletic and me not-so-much. Wanted to find something that we could enjoy together. Pure Barre was definitely something we would do again. The instructors were very friendly and non-judgemental. I have some old injuries and they were able to give me good alternatives to the exercises. Also as someone who loathes working out this class seemed to go by very quick. I think it was a mix of the small increments of different exercises and the music. Very good introductory class that left me feeling sore the next two days but didn't feel like I was dying in the moment. Look forward to going again and working up to planks and pushups! read more

I was so ecstatic to hear that a barre studio was opening right across the street from my apartment! I used to take barre but after some out of state/country moves I had to stop for a couple years. Now that I'm back in DC and it's a 30-second walk away (depending on traffic), I have no excuse but to go! Lauren and all the teachers are all so nice and do a great job teaching the classes. Each teacher is a little bit different but they all continue to vary their own classes, so you never know what you are going to get! I'm actually writing this as I'm feeling pretty sore from my Thursday class. I know if it hurts to laugh that my abs got a nice workout! Since I started a couple months ago I can already tell my flexibility is improved, amongst strength improvements. I generally like to say I don't like to go to the gym, but I like to leave the gym. With barre, I look forward to the classes. Since this is something that holds my interest and makes me feel good, it is worth the expense. Pure Barre Pentagon City is a great studio with experienced instructors. The studio owner, Lauren, is particularly helpful - with modifications, basic instruction, etc -- not to mention a super friendly person. Bre and Claudine are other instructors with whom I've had great experiences -- both very helpful and knowledgeable.The studio is nicely decorated, comfortable and clean. There's room enough in the classes so that you're not tripping over your neighbor. The classes are excellent -- challenging; and you definitely see (and feel!) results. I just tried the newest class offering - Pure Barre Empower - and am definitely a fan; it's a complete & comprehensive workout. And it's no joke -- you WILL sweat. Killer workout! I went to a soft opening class with Cara, and it was pretty on par with other pure barre classes I've been to. Cara was great at suggesting modifications and keeping us energized. They use the typical small ball and bands, and remember to pick up some weights upon walking in. The studio space is pretty small but they really took advantage of it. There are cubbies for your stuff and water bottle fountain. Don't forget socks! But if you do, they have a bunch for sale, along with other pure barre attire. They're one of the very few fitness studios in the Pentagon City area and I'm really excited to start my membership. Location is great, super close to the metro and easy to spot. read more

I love love love this location and 99% of the instructors. So much so that I travel to go here because I enjoy it more than other PB locations. I highly recommend if you want low impact toning. I wouldn't necessarily put this at the top of the list for weight loss but for me personally it has toned my abs and legs. I'm glad they now offer reform and empower to make things less redundant. If you're thinking of trying this - definitely do it but stick with it for results ! Takes a couple of weeks to see a difference and it's so worth it ! read more

Big fan of Pure Barre at Pentagon! I'm in the process of an intro-unlimited month and loving it. I've tried out a few different barre studios - and in the studios I narrowed down to that I like to go to - this one really stands out for the warmth of the instructors (everyone is so nice and they really care about proper alignment), the music (sometimes they have themed days), and the studio location and feel (lights aren't too bright and it's not too freezing). I'm excited to see how much different I'll look and feel after more classes. :) Update months later: I love this studio and signed up for an unlimited 12-month contract. I have been to multiple Pure Barre locations and this is by far my favorite. Easy parking. The place is very clean and well maintained. The bathroom is stock with necessities. They also have water fountain and refill station. The only class I've taken so far is the Pure Empower - a 45mins upbeat class with arms/ankle weights. I recently started pure barre again after stopping for a year. One of the reasons I stopped going to another studio was because there was an air about it that I didn't like mainly the instructors were a little bit stuck up and not friendly at all. Pentagon city is a different story the owner is super sweet and is very down to earth. The instructors are really great and manage to switch up the routines every class which makes it fun and never boring! I would recommend this studio 100% it is so clean nicely maintained and is pretty big compared to other studios. read more

I finished my 16th class and I am hooked. It is always challenging and never boring. I go mostly to the Early/5:45 classes and can't recommend Cara & Elizabeth enough. You do have to be comfortable being close to your neighbors in the class, but I have only had a couple of situations where people were inconsiderate. I have always loved varied fitness classes but Pure Barre is on the top of my list. It really keeps me working on muscles that I don't typically get to work out in other classes. At the end of the class, I feel so strong. The instructors also take the time to learn your name and it's very hands on with corrections. It's very normal to go at least 3 times without really understanding the movements. You'll want to be a little more patient with muscle memory. read more

I've now been to two 7:00am classes at this studio, and I love it! I'm really the opposite of a morning person, but Cara (who was my instructor both times) really keeps you motivated and gives you a good work out. Cara was really helpful in my first class (it wasn't my first Pure Barre class, but my first at this studio) and took the time to get to know me and correct my form on a few exercises. The studio is really clean, beautiful, and conveniently located. Pure Barre is great for everyone because you can make modifications to make it as hard or as easy as you need to. There are a lot of classes on the schedule, but because I've taken the classes through ClassPass, they can fill up quickly (I think this is more of a ClassPass problem than a Pure Barre problem). So there's a million fitness studios out there right? It's hard to tell them apart, I know, so why the FIVE STAR review for another corporate studio? Because this isn't just another studio - IT IS A FIVE STAR COMMUNITY! The men and women here are like the family, the staff knows your name, and the owner is an incredible person who is down to earth, funny, and genuine. I was skeptical of Barre, worried I wouldn't get a good workout, and I was wrong. I noticed a significant difference within the first couple of weeks (and I certainly felt it!). Also Pure Barre has this whole "barre" thing down to a science. The workout are perfectly coordinated to the music and you move to the beat. Want to tone your arms, butt, legs, and core - this is where you want to be. It's not just a studio, it's a family. And in this crazy area, it's just what you need. read more

I tried out Pure Barre on a free week offer. I've never tried anything like this. I'm a 2 year Bariatric post op. After losing almost 100 pounds, I've got some serious saggy skin! Lauren at the Pentagon location welcomed me on day one, showed me the whole facility, gave me some pre-class tips & made me feel at home. Well, that was a month ago and I feel AMAZING! I have gained so much control, strength in my abdominals, my BUTT, OMG, my butt is looking sooo much better... in just a month's time. I'm here to tell you that if I can do barre and see results after only 15 classes, anyone can. I'd lifted in a gym for years but had no dance background or much experience working out in a group. I was totaled by my first class but the after glow was worth the pain and confusion. And the ache in my triceps and core the next day told me I was on to something. The instructors are exacting but encouraging. The correct your mistakes and applaud your tiniest accomplishment. And fora 50 something woman to be accosted by a 20 year old in a bar who told me how awesome I look and am I a gymnast? Priceless. I've really enjoyed Pure Barre Pentagon City! As a former athlete who never really got used to weightlifting as my workout of choice, I've really enjoyed Barre classes. There's enough variation amongst instructors and classes that you won't get bored, but it's routine enough that you know what kind of workout you're getting every class. I initially thought that the workouts would be easy, but I've been challenged in every class. Plus, unlike a lot of other workouts I've tried, the hour flies by. The best part of Pure Barre Pentagon City are the people. Everyone has been really nice and helpful and it makes coming to the classes that much more enjoyable. read more

I recently started going to Pure Barre in Pentagon City. I love that they give you lots of incentives to keep coming back. You get your first week free, but if you take three classes during your first week you get $20 off your intro month. The full price for the intro month is $99 but with the $20 off you only pay $79 for one month of unlimited classes. Right now I am in my intro month and if I do 12 classes during this month I will receive an additional 50% my next month. As you see it's a great way to keep clients coming back while helping them achieve their fitness goals. I appreciate that the class sizes are small so the instructor is able to give plenty of one on one attention. As someone who is just starting out this is very important to me, because I know from other fitness classes that I've taken if you don't get the technique down at first it's harder to correct later on. First things first-- I work out a lot. I've been a fan of barre for the past two years, and after I moved to DC, promptly went on a "Tour de Barre" to find a home studio. After about seven different studios, this one is definitely my favorite. The staff is exceptional (in both technique and personality), and they really make an effort to remember your name and make you feel welcome. Full disclosure- I actually live within walking distance to another Pure Barre, and I still go to this one simply because I like everyone there so much. As a woman working in public relations leadership, the roughly one hour I spend in class is one of few spaces where I can truly rest, reset, and empower myself. I am a person who aggressively dislikes any type of physical activity, but the reviews for this studio were so good I decided to take a chance. The staff are very welcoming and helpful if I ever have questions about a particular movement or exercise. The studio itself is clean and bright. I have a knee condition that makes jumping/running difficult so the exercises at Pure Barre are perfect by using isometric movements to really target different muscle groups. I always feel great after leaving and I'm really glad I found this studio! read more

Absolutely LOVE PBPC. I've been a member of this studio for 7 months now, and I cannot say enough about the staff and the environment they create. Every instructor is encouraging and welcoming and seeks to challenge you during every class. The work out itself is tough, but it is easily modifiable for every individual's need.
