Apparently Martinez is a ghost town after 10pm on Fridays. We ended up here this past weekend and were pleasantly surprised. The bar is connected to a coffeehouse and is located in the back, a very small area, but there was enough space and seating for the handful of visitors on this quiet evening. A clean and inviting setting with simple decor. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had the Tom Collins and Belixir and agreed that the cocktails here are pretty good. I love their gin-based cocktails and the ginger-mule is one of my go-tos. The candied ginger on that drink is insanely good (the real deal). Went here on Sunday around noon for a bloody mary. There were 4 people in the bar and it literally took 20 minutes to get the bartenders attention. She did not acknowledge us at all, and we had to ask her for drinks. She had her head down the whole time and didn't acknowledge us at all. Seemed confused where all the different mixers were for drinks. I could totally understand if the place was crowed, but it was not at all. No excuse for this. Ordered 2 Bloodies, one Margarita and a draft beer. The total was $54 and I tipped her $4 ($1 for each drink). She was lucky to get that much. I normally tip 20% or more, but this was really bad. The few people that were sitting in the bar said this is standard for this place. We go downtown Martinez all the time, and we won't be going back to Barrel Aged. read more

Nice spot but very small. When I went they had a live band playing. It gets pretty crowded but depending on the band I wouldn't mind standing. I suggest trying the peach moscow mule ($10). It was very delicious (refreshing, flavorful and not too shabby on the alcohol). I could drink that all night if it wasn't so pricey. Bar is in the back, cafe is in the front. I haven't really spent much time hanging out in Martinez. But maybe I should! We started the night at Bar Cava, another pretty great spot, and walked down the way to Barrel Aged. The great thing about this location is... the location, walking distance from a few other restaurants/bars. We wandered into the packed house and were greeted by a very friendly patron who suggested we try the Moscow Mules. After a decent wait (I mean, if the place was dead, something would probably be wrong with it) we grabbed our drinks and headed over to the coffee shop side where A LIVE BAND WAS PLAYING! And the band was AMAZING! Played a few really great covers of classic songs with a new jazzy twist. Can I be part of the pack, BlackPack? Random seating, we took a few seats at the long table with benches, but couches, chairs, ottomans, were all available. And a giant teddy bear if you feel so inclined. But in the end, atmosphere can only be a portion of the reason you come back. The other part is that the drinks were actually good. Thank you, stranger, for suggesting the mules. Yes, Yes, Yes on every level! We walked out of Nu-Rays across the street because we had enough of the cover band that was playing there. We wanted a more quieter location to have a drink and talk. It was like that scene in the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy opens the door to house in Munchkinland and the colors are so beautiful and inviting. Well, we walked out of a dive bar and immediately saw Barrel Aged and it was like angel voices started singing and beckoning us in. We were hypnotized into the door and there was two spots right there at the bar. People were talking and drinking eloquently mixed cocktails. The bartender turned to us and welcomed us in. I saw the cocktail menu for the day and I almost fell on the floor with how delicious all of them looked. He talked me into a beautifully made vodka cocktail. You'd think with all of my yelp prowess Id have written the name down in my notes. But I didn't. I was so in the moment and loving every second of being there I didn't even take out my phone. Once our cocktails were ready we walked around the bar into the coffee house located in the same building and around the corner. There are tables and comfortable chairs to sit and enjoy yourself. We sat at the long wood table. As we were talking and enjoying ourselves a young woman walked in with a microphone and a guy with an acoustic guitar sat down. He started playing and she started singing superb jazz songs. I then fell in love with her too. We had an excellent night. It was, dare I say, magical. Im so happy to have found Barrel Aged. Having read some of the previous reviews, we were a bit concerned that it would be packed here on a Saturday night, but this was most certainly not the case. While the bar area was pretty full, there was plenty of seating outside and in the cafe/lounge area upfront. Maybe it's crowded when there's live music? In any case, the place has a great vibe/layout. You can chill outdoors on the patio, sit at the somewhat more swanky bar, or pull out your laptop in the cafe area...definitely a place you can come alone, on a date, or with a group of friends. The blonde female bartender was super sweet and competent. We tried a few drinks and all of them were fantastic, but my favorite was the Clover Club - gin, egg white, lemon, and raspberry - perfectly tart and just a little bit sweet. Though yes, there is only one bathroom, the decor is A+ (see pictured). Clientele is homogenous/on the older side/about what you would expect in Martinez, but what can you do? Barrel Aged is solid and definitely worth a trip up from Berkeley/Oakland. read more

This place is great to pop in while taking a break from the Sunday Farmers market. Probably the best Bloody Mary I have ever had. Just the right combination of flavors, not too spicy, and garnished with bacon! The menu is perfectly light, nothing too heavy that will put you into a food coma after consumption. The place is split, there is a Cafe section and a bar section. Bar has limited seating and the Cafe has tables and a couch area. You have to order your cocktails at the bar and you can only order beer and wine at the Cafe area. It looked like the Cafe area was closed when we arrived at 7 pm on a Saturday but there was a group playing board games on one table and another table with someone on his laptop. They have a great selection of beers and cocktails! For me, there is quite the whiskey selection available as well as great prices! If you get the chance, they have a nice bookshelf area with some very rare whiskeys. They were quite busy when I went but what made this review 5 stars was our excellent waitress who seated us in the cafe section couches and answered our questions. We finished the night with a sour beer we had been looking for as well as two hard to find bourbons for a total of $27. Was expecting to pay more so I was very happy to see that. I think the only thing I would've liked is a menu of their various whiskeys/spirits available but thats really only for convenience. Otherwise, I will definitely be back! read more

So amazing, this is hands down the best bar in Martinez! They also have a coffee shop next door that I highly recommend. The drinks are out of this world. Fresh fruit, quality spirits, and artful creation. I tried the sangria and the showstopper (vodka basil), and my boyfriend said their Manhattan was the best he's had in a long time. He loves their Cuban Sandwich, while I was a big fan of their veggie sandwich (the roast). They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays, and overall it's just a fantastic spot.
