The Julius salad was the best Caesar-ish Salad I have ever had. The lemon juice dropper was an amazing touch and next leveled an already excellent salad. The pizza was great. Venue - 5/5 A really nice setting with plenty of shaded outdoor patio seating, live music, and lots of free parking. It feels relaxed and works especially well for groups. The only minor downside is that the washrooms are a bit awkward to get to. Service - 4/5 We came with a large group and the food still came out surprisingly quickly. Ordering drinks and food took a little patience because of the group size, but overall the staff handled everything well and kept things moving. Food - 4/5 Portions are very generous and everything tasted fresh. The sandwiches have some entertaining names and are much bigger than expected. We tried the Overdressed Italian and Midlife Crisis, and both were filling and well made. The Bee Sting pizza was one of the highlights and was also a very generous size. Walked in on a Friday night around 5:45. What a great place. Many wines to choose from, from ice wines to many of our favorites. We sat in the patio section, the food was amazing everything was shareable. I order the olive and tomato bruschette, delicious. The peach salad was ordered by many. Food: We tried the Pearl and Lover Boy wood-fired pizzas, which were excellent -- especially for non-Jersey-style pizza -- along with the Peach of Mind salad (which I did not eat since I do not like peanuts). Everything was flavorful and satisfying, perfect for a casual meal. Service: Service was solid, though you may have to wait a little longer for food if it gets busy. This is the pizza restaurant at the Pillitteri winery. We had gotten massages in the area and decided to come for some wine and an early dinner afterward. So glad we stopped in! We got the red wine flight and decided on a couple glasses from that. We shared a delicious Caesar salad and the sweet heat pizza. I could not believe how delicious that pizza was. We both loved everything about our visit, the service was fantastic, and I would love to come back and explore more of the winery aspect of the property. read more

The outdoor dining space is nice and spacious, and a great way to spend a warm summer afternoon. Our visit was unfortunately marred by poor service from the hostess. We arrived at 4 PM, with three children in tow, to a mostly empty restaurant. We waited patiently at the hostess stand for several minutes. The hostess then proceeded to seat several parties that came in after us, giving us attitude when we tried to draw this to her attention. Went for lunch with my Canadian family and some European family members who were visiting from the Netherlands. Let me say this, this is outdoor seating only, check the weather before you go. If you go on a hot day, they may seat you under a tarp, which will take away any option for air flow and make you feel like you are dying a slow death from lack of air and heat stroke. Our group had water on the table but two us had absolutely nothing to drink because the container was not big enough for our group to have water. Two of us waited 20 minutes for any option of ordering a drink. Not ideal on a hot day. They charged my mother to switch cheese on a salad. They wouldn't switch Gorgonzola (a truly strong cheese paired w. peach ) for another cheese, without an up charge. The food was fine, nothing special. My five year old son wouldn't even eat the pizza (a first), but we live in the NYC area and have the best pizza in the world, so understandable because you can't compete with pizza in our area. I got the same salad as my mom and I really didn't enjoy the gorgonzola choice on the salad and maybe my Mom was right to pay not to overpower everything else in the bowl with this putrid ingredient. The dish didn't have any real flavor/balance or sophistication... just sort of unripe ingredients dumped on lettuce with a moldy cheese taste (I think really old gorgonzola, I usually like it). I have eaten in many countries. This meal just wasn't anything special, or even good. Being Canadian, I was hoping for better than this ...but we do have other time tested wineries nearby that we frequent, so easy not to make this mistake again. The cherries my Mom bought (3 big paper baskets) were all sour. Ask to taste before you buy - they are obviously happy to sell out of season produce with bad taste. read more

My husband and I visited Niagara on the lake for a date night. After a long day of biking and sightseeing around the quaint little town we worked up an appetite. We have been wanting to check out barrel head restaurant located at pillitteri winery! We walked right in and were greeted right away and sat at a table near the bar. We actually ended up asking if we could wait for a table outside and not under a covering, and had only had to wait a few minutes. We were seated at a table outside overlooking the vineyard! The outside of the restaurant was cute with string lights hung and live music playing which was a great touch! We ordered one of their many wood fired pizzas which was bigger than I thought and full of flavor! It was piled high with so many different meats and toppings! I had no idea Niagara was well known for their wineries. Pillitteri is one of the many wineries and Barrel Head is the restaurant on the property. It has spacious outdoor seating with a great view of the vineyard in the back. The servers were extremely accommodating considering we were a party of 16 who showed up without a reservation. To drink, I ordered a peach drink mixed with ice wine and chunks of peaches. I wish I got the name of it. It was refreshing and not too sweet. We ordered a peach and blueberry salad as an appetizer. The portion is huge! At least 5 of us were able to share one serving of it. I'm normally not a fan of blue cheese but the earthy taste was balanced out by the sweetness of the peaches and blueberries. The highlight of our meal was of course were the wood-fired pizzas. You can actually see them coming out of the oven fresh. The Boscaiola (my favorite) had mushrooms and Italian sausage with just cheese as the base. The Hawaiano was pretty good too but it had an unexpected kick of spice at the end. I love that the crust on the pizzas was soft and thin so I didn't feel overloaded on carbs. If only we had more time here I would have loved to do a wine tasting. We had a great time dining here and the perfect weather we had that day made for an even better experience. The outside looks beautiful when you go inside it looks good but they took 15 min to find us a table then when we sat down they took our orders and while they were making our food the power went out so we had to wait another 10+ minutes for our food. Order at the bar, you'll get a number and they will bring your food to the table. The menu is small and simple, wood oven pizza and salad. The patio is large with many trees for shade. When I arrived the live band had just finish I heard they were good. By far the margherita pizza was my fav the sauce was so good and tasted like it had wine in it. The Bianco tasted more like a flatbread the sauce is extremely light along with the toppings. I almost ate 2 pizzas by myself lol. Go here and you won't be disappointed by their pizza and wine, and the view! They close later than the tasting but if you're not aiming to do a flight then i recommend just skipping the tasting and walking over to this side. Pizzas are delicious and they were very accommodating to the dietary restrictions(putting prosciutto only on half of the pizza for us). Wines are the same price as in house but they do tack on a $10 cork fee. View is amazing especially with the sunset on the vineyards. Definitely recommend the Riesling because it was so smooth and delicious. only docked off 1 star because we did tell them we were going to take some pictures and come back to pay the bill and to save our stuff on the table (including the unfinished half a bottle of wine ) but we came back only to find they had disposed / cleaned of everything. they were not closing yet and it was not busy with a crowd of people waiting for tables so that was a bit disappointing. but in terms of their food and drinks, those were delicious and i'd come again for sure! on Thursday august the 18th a group of 8 decided to have lunch at this establishment. we ordered pizza witch took over an hour and the one person with us was celiac. she called a week before to ask if they had gluten free on the menu and was informed that they did and stated that there were gluten free options available. upon ordering she was told that they could not do anything gluten free even a salad because they did not have a designated area that would be safe from cross contamination so there was nothing for her to eat. only to find out later that they provided someone else with her on very special day offering gluten free pizzas in prepared and baked in there on special pans and separate utensils for gluten free orders and invited her back and maid sure they posted on her page. so overall this experience was very disappointing' the service left something to be desired. read more
