A hidden gem in the Niagara area! I'm sad I've only discovered this place now. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with open kitchen to watch them make pizza. The interior is super cute. Came on a Wednesday afternoon for a party of 6. Seems like they prefer the entire party to arrive at the same time to be seated cause the hostess kept asking how long it'll take for everyone else to arrive. They don't accept reservations and there's a limit of 90 mins during peak hours. Our server was patient and gave suggestions on what to order. I came for the nachos and it was HUGEEE, layered perfectly and was a hit at our table. Our server recommended the strawberry salad - a seasonal item for the summer months as well as pear-isean pizza, love the hot honey! The setting for The Grist is incredibly adorable. It gives industrial chic in the best kind of way, so walking in is comforting and cozy but still sophisticated. The food was more of a 3.5, but I think it was truthfully just what I ordered. For me, the roll was just too greasy to begin and then when they add the Italian dressing it ended up being difficult for me to eat. That being said, it's a given that it would be a heavier dish, but I didn't expect it to be quite so heavy. I stole some fries from my dining partner, and they were yummy. And if you couldn't tell, the pretzel was great (I took a bite before I took a picture. Whoops.) I do believe if I ordered something different (and the menu is quite extensive) I would likely have a better experience with the food, so I'd definitely come back. There were a few times it was difficult to get the attention of our waitress, but it was very busy on the day we were there. All in all not a bad experience, but not a stand out either. read more

My wife and I have been to a LOT of breweries, so it honestly takes something special to wow us now... and Grist absolutely did. We both grabbed flights, and while everything was solid, there were four beers that totally stood out: * Horchata Wit - creamy, spiced, super smooth * London Fog - light, unique, full of flavour * Cantarito Sour Ale - bright, citrusy, refreshing * Smoke'd Scottish Ale - the most unique beer we've tried in a long time It's rare for a brewery to hit this many home runs in one visit. For our appetizer, we got the Baked Brie-zza, and wow... dangerous. The dough (pretty sure it's house-made) is incredible, and the Brie adds so much creaminess while the fig compote and hot honey round it all out. Just so flavourful and sooo tasty. For mains: * I ordered the Baked Chicken Parm Ziti -- nice and cheesy, chicken cooked well. Noodles were slightly overcooked but I still enjoyed it. * My wife had the Smoked Tuna Tacos, loved them, and powered through the serious spice level Our friends enjoyed their meals and drinks too. And we're 100% coming back. The menu was super appealing and the pizza looked unbelievable -- easily something we need to try next time along with a few other dishes we had our eyes on. Overall? A great option for the area. The houses that live in this neighbourhood must be thankful to have such a great place to eat and meet within close proximity. My bf and I came on a Thursday afternoon and were seated right away. They actually have a lot of options and there's truly something for everyone. My bf settled on the fish and chips and I on the butternut squash pasta. My bf thought the fish and chips were just ok. He said it didn't hit like fish and chips usually do for him but were just ok. My butternut squash pasta was delicious but I could have done without the bacon. The bacon was soooo salty, I ended up just pushing most of the pieces to the side. The pasta however was perfect and flavourful. And just the right amount of pieces. I was able to eat it all but I wasn't extremely full. I liked the little hint of chilli oil that's added to the dish. We didn't get dessert, as we had other plans elsewhere for dessert but the options look good. First let me start by stating that review is about the OWNER of The Grist and NOT the staff! The owner of the Grist should be absolutely ashamed of himself as to how he treated an extremely loyal customer - my brother who has spent in excess of 10's of thousands of dollars over the last couple of years. The event was scheduled for mid week, a Wednesday. The event was a milestone 65th birthday celebration. We (7 of us) arrived and sat at a high top in the bar section. It is also important to note that this was not only a 65th birthday celebration but a family reunion where for the first time in 4 years, 4 brothers were together in person. Drinks are ordered, food is ordered, bar tender is amazing and engaged with the celebration festivities. Now we are here LESS than 90 minutes, we have drinks in hand, food is still on the table and the restaurant had started become busy. Now this is where the issue starts. The owner now comes over to our table only, starts to talk with my brother and states the following " you need to leave this table and move to the bar where you can "stand" if you wish to continue with the celebration as I have customers waiting for tables. This was LESS than 90 minutes since we arrived! The OWNER did not provide My brother or his guests an apology, Who does this? I will tell you, someone who only cares about the extra dollar that he can also tap their credit card/debit card/cash. He completely forget about a loyal customer who has brought many new people to this establishment and many of these new people also became regulars. For me this will be the last time I ever visit this place unless this guy formally apologies to my brother for making his milestone 65th birthday, family reunion one that will be remembered negatively and embarrassing . Important to note that we were NOT asked to move because we were load or noisy, but simply because the owner now saw more dollar signs in his eyes with new people waiting for a table. So to him easier to move someone sitting in the bar than the actual restaurant. Out of courtesy I will wait before making another post on my personal social media page so as to provide ample time for this person to do the right thing and provide my brother an apology. The Grist is a wonderful eatery located in Niagara on the Lake. It's a beautiful, harmful space that serves delicious food and drinks! Our group ordered calamari, ahi poke bowl, mushroom risotto, WANA autumn salmon and a pizza. Everything tasted fresh, flavourful and delicious. The presentation of the food was beautiful, and portions were big and shareable. Service was excellent! Staff were friendly and welcoming. Super cute & aesthetic, restaurant/brewery in niagara on the lake. Came here for the first time because my friend recommended and it did not disappoint! The nachos that we got were ginormous!! It can literally feed like 4-5 people. We also got the Mac & cheese with bacon and it was super super creamy and hot. The cheese pull was insane. We also got their Italian butcher pizza. They make their pizza fresh to order and I believe they use a stone oven. For drinks we got coffee, Shirley Temple and a beer. They have beer that is actually non alcoholic, that's the one we got and it taste just like beer. Everything was super delicious and we ended up getting two big boxes for the nachos as we couldn't finish everything. The staff was super kind and accommodating. They are actually dog friendly on the patio, I didn't get a picture of her on the patio but our dog is a medium dog. They even bought out a bowl of water for her, which was super sweet. read more

Very cool location on the way from Toronto to Niagara. We were attracted by the decoration from pictures and decided to pay a visit. Nice vibe inside, especially love the open garage doors and the brewer tanks inside. We tried 8 beers with 2 orders of taster. It was great to get to try different types. Hands down one of the best restaurants to visit when in Niagara Falls! Found this place recommended from Reddit and it did not disappoint. In fact, it greatly exceeded my expectations! This is the first time in a very long time I have been genuinely excited and impressed by food. Arrived around 6:30 on a weekday and put our name in for a table for four. It was already quite busy with other parties waiting but our wait was only about 20-30 minutes. Staff were super friendly and even offered a table outside if we didn't want to wait. We chose to stay inside and were seated after a few more minutes. They played awesome music which happened to be all my favorites! Cute decor inside with nice little touches. Our waitress was very sweet and bubbly. We placed our orders quickly and not soon after our appetizers arrived. For appetizers we ordered the fries and calamari. Fries were very hire and tasty but I was sincerely shocked at how phenomenal the calamari was! Incredibly fresh and not heavy feeling like sometimes the fried calamari can be. I've had calamari all over the country, even in great restaurants in LA and San Diego and nothing matches how amazing it was! Highly recommend!! For dinner we ordered the ahi poke bowl, slap and tickle pickle burger, the New Yorker pizza, and the smoke and steak pizza. Everyone really enjoyed their food so so much and said it was really great! I had ordered the smoke and steak pizza and my mouth is watering thinking about it right now. INSANE how spectacular this pizza was OMG! Again, highly recommend! The only thing that I wasn't a huge fan of was our desserts (deep fried cheese cake and the sticky toffee pudding) however these aren't my typical preference so that's probably just me. Also want to point out that this was the first place we went to during our visit that was reasonably priced and the food was actually amazing. The Grist was the first restaurant we visited after the first restaurant was full. There was live music that was provided on the second floor which added to the atmosphere. All the food had large portions and it was pretty salty. One of the first thing to try in Canada was poutine which was drenched in gravy which I relatively liked in comparison to the ones I've tried in the US but nothing super special. The Gristian Power Bowl plus shrimp as a protein was nice and refreshing with the mix of vegetables. The tachos was enormous even for my group of 5. It was nice to try but I wouldn't recommend it since we could not finish it at all. Sadly everything was so unexpectedly salty that it was hard to eat. I enjoyed my drink the most. The beer cocktail that was recommended as one of the sweetest, Tip of the Smurf containing Blue curaçao, sprite, lime juice, Italian Pilsner. read more

We came here for dinner after doing wine tours, and it was pretty busy, but it was not a long wait at all. There was a small waiting area with some seats. The space itself was gorgeous. I got the tachos and oh my god it was the largest serving of food I've ever gotten. I wish the server gave me a warning, or else I wouldn't have ordered it for just myself. The entire upstairs was watching the tachos being delivered to my table and it was kind of embarrassing. They were great, but the portion size it definitely for sharing purposes. Amazing restaurant around NOTL region to go to with a group of friends before heading to some winery. Service was great and responsive. Their food were amazing and tasty. We mainly got shareable dishes. We ordered their tachos, Mediterranean frizzles, and poutine. The server warned us how big the tachos are and indeed that's a large portion of food. I've been here twice now, once in the winter and once in the summer. If you're heading out here, always expect a lineup and wait. You can put your name on the waiting list. First time I was here was last winter. We ended up getting pizza and some calamari. I think one of my top 10 pizzas in the region. Nice all around pizza. The calamari is OK. Staff was really good and the beer they brew also nice. Really relaxed vibes in here with a full restaurant. Came back in the summer and there was a huge wait. We did ask about the outdoor picnic tables and they said we could dine there but would be removed from the waitlist for indoor dining. We decided to do it. After 15-20 minutes or so I walked in to order and they said they'd send somebody out. Ended up getting pizza again with salad. The salad was really good. Pizza is pretty consistent. The area of St David's is nice and peaceful and we saw a lot of people come and go. Thankfully we took the picnic table option as the wait would have been significantly longer. This is one of my wife's favorite places. We love the clean modern look with the right amount of brewpub blend. We have tried many of the menu items and liked them all, my favorite are the wings, you can get them buffalo or variations of dry rub. We always enjoy a flight or two of their fine brew. The front and side open to give it an outdoor patio feel, love it. We have always had good service, especially during our last visit with Taylor taking great care of us. This restaurant is a cool place to eat. The chandeliers in the place are made of wood, and I loved the inside-outside eating options as I visited on Labor Day weekend. If you are looking for an intimate conversation, this is definitely not the place as it's very loud then the place is full. The restaurant was packed to capacity when I arrived, so I decided to get pizza to go instead of waiting on a table. I enjoyed the seasonal peach and prosciutto pizza with basil. The chef was overly heavy-handed on the balsamic vinegar(?) drizzle, so it was a bit of a mess to eat out of the box. Despite being a mess and although the crust wasn't anything to write home about, I did find the flavors to be tasty. Were I to go back, I'd probably pick something else next time and might even find myself sampling something other than the pizza as there are plenty of wood-fired pizza options in town that may be better than the pizza here. read more

The format is simple. Craft beer and craft pizza, but they do it so well! This place fills up fast and the parking lot is rather small so it's best to arrive at a time or day other than prime time. I enjoyed a flight of different beers as well as a pizza and the pizza combinations were creative and unique. Love the look of the restaurant interior. It's open and airy, and even the kitchen is open since it is built in the open kitchen concept where you can see the pizzas being made. What a lovely clean place with great ambience greeted quickly with a smile and table for two. Our waitress was great quick drinks and checked on us many times. We started off with the roasted brussels sprouts with parmesan, I ordered the mushroom risotto with shrimp and it was amazing . Every bite was hot and delicious you could taste the freshness ! This beer boutique and high end pub design provides ambience accented with their stainless steel vats. Their brews get rave reviews and the service is friendly and non-intrusive but what I get excited about is the FOOD!!! Friends say it has the best pizza ever and it certainly is on my 'eat and repeat' list. Each visit I try something different but the shrimp will always be part of my menu. read more

A great place to stop for a beer. It's right off the Lewiston-Queenston bridge . Take the first exit after entering Canada from USA , a left and then a right T stops. Drive slow as sign faces the street and you can easily drive bye the place. I'd.you see a market , you went too far. Technically it is in St David's region of Niagara on the Lake. There's a nice selection of beer. We enjoyed the saison as it was light and refreshing on a summer's day. The IPA was hoppy and full flavored and enjoyed by the IPA lover among us. Unfortunately the Kolsch was gone, so I guess we'll have to come back to try again. It sounded great as it has notes of clementine. There is a nice covered open air side area that is raised above the cars and offer a cool relaxing place to enjoy a drink or 2. Tasting flights are a great way to sample 4 styles.of beer. I visited this establishment twice because I enjoyed it that much! The food was phenomenal! You'll love the staff who can provide you with options they prefer and super friendly! I spilled ketchup on myself the first night and was a little annoyed; but asked my waitress for napkins only. She came back with napkins, heavy duty soap, and peroxide. She was a true angel! I was successful is getting the ketchup out and enjoyed my meal and time with my family! I'm so grateful for her and this was the nicest staff EVER. The ambience is outstanding! It's perfect for all ages and families. They also have a gender neutral bathroom if you prefer to use that! Due to the outstanding service by quickly delivering your food and how nice the staff is, I would recommend anyone to come here over and over again! Wonderful place where the owner and manager are also present! The first night I had: Mac smash burger with fries and my husband had feature smash burger of the night- it was a huge burger- I think it was called the mafia smash burger that had lots of cheese and towered upward with sweet potato fries. The next day for lunch we had the Brussel sprouts for an appetizer, bacon Mac and cheese and bbq smash burger, T'mave pivo, and 9 oz peach wine. Recently moved to the area from downtown Toronto. Visited The Grist this evening for a pint and some hot wings. These are hands-down the BEST WINGS I've ever had. In my opinion, these wings beat out all my favourite haunts in Toronto. They're juicy, and tender, oven-roasted wings which literally were falling off the surprisingly thin bones - ya that's all meat, bud! Thin bones, thick with perfectly cooked meat. The heat was just right for a true hot wing that you won't regret eating in 12 hours. Can't wait to visit again! read more
