We stopped on our way through. The seat yourself sign was a little worrisome. Have had good and bad experiences with that sign. The place was really clean. Only took a few minutes for the waitress to see we came in. That's the issue with the seat yourself signs.... My wife got the spaghetti and meatballs. The waitress said that the meatballs and sauce are made in house. My wife really liked it. She said the sauce could have used a little more flavor but she couldn't tell me what kind of flavor it needed. The meatballs looked good and she said they had great flavor. I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries. I assumed that the meatballs being made in house that the burger would be also made in house. Well I was wrong. This morning at 9:00 am, I was first of a party of 20 to enter the Barrel House. There were already 6-8 tables full of people including a table of about 10. I wasn't in charge of the group and didn't know if the leader had warned of our arrival. The waitress said "No" she didn't know 20 people were showing up. She was a little flustered for about 30 seconds, but quickly regrouped. There was plenty of seating in the bar side of the restaurant. A few others arrived and we distributed the 20 rolls of tableware and 20 menus she brought to us. As more arrived, she brought a tray of 20 coffee cups and several bowls of little cream cups. We passed those around and soon she produced two pots of coffee which she quickly poured into our cups. We offered to pour the coffee for her, but she wouldn't let us. Then she brought 20 water glasses and a couple of pitchers of water. More folks not in our party came in and she would magically seat them and get their coffee. She efficiently took our 20 orders and within about 15 or 20 minutes, started bring out platefuls of food! I had an omelet, hash browns and toast and my order was perfect, hot and tasted excellent. When we were all done, she quickly produced 20 checks! This woman was spectacular! We were in no hurry since it was cold and raining outside and we were staying at High Pines RV Park. We told her we had all the time in the world. We had planned to cook our own breakfast, but the weather was just nasty. In slightly over 90 minutes, our bellies were happily full and our checks were all paid (and I believe most, if not all of us left 50-100% tips). I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I don't know how many were cooking in the back, but they(?) we're amazing as well. And as far as I know everyone in the restaurant was quickly served and fed. There was one other waitress on the cafe side. If you're ever northeast of Kane on Route 219/Route 6, please stop in and give this place your business. You won't be sorry! read more

Been passing this place for years and always saw plenty of cars in the lot and ratings were good. Finally decided to make a trip up for late lunch/early dinner today and after seating ourselves as instructed at the door waited for over 15 minutes at our table for anyone to come but no one did. We left sorely disappointed and can't understand why no one would come to our table in that length of time. Even being understaffed someone should have come to the table at the least explaining. After reading more reviews it is apparent there is a very bad service issue with this establishment and although the food maybe good from some reviews this is totally unacceptable and dought we would make another attempt to eat here. My family stopped here on the way to our campground and we enjoyed our meal! RESTAURANT: -The broccoli and cheese soup was loaded with broccoli and the cheese base had a thicker consistency. Overall it was very tasty. -My husband ordered the chicken tenders and onion rings appetizers as his meal. The tenders are white meat and nicely battered. Sauces optional. The onion rings were large and crispy. The only complaint I have is that they were heavy handed with the salt sprinkled on after frying. TAVERN: The Tavern had a full bar and separate area from the restaurant. There was one billiards table and plenty of seating. Lunch time on a Friday was not crowded at 11:30 but still had a steady flow of customers. And our waitress was very sweet. I would definitely stop here again on our way to the campgrounds. read more

Traveling from Niagara Falls back to Maryland and stopped for gas at Sheetz next door and spotted the old Texaco sign. What can I say. It's located at Lantz's Corners which is a nothing sort of highway intersection situated in the middle of nowhere. The Barrel House is primarily a beer drinking semi dive bar type of place, certainly not much of a restaurant and I certainly wouldn't recommend the food though they do make some OK burgers. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to Kinzua Bridge State Park. We all had omelets. My bacon and cheese omelet was the best omelet I ever had! Perfectly sized portion with just enough bacon and melty cheese! Lightly browned to give it a perfect flavor. Hash browns on the side were super tasty and I usually don't eat hash browns. All perfect, not greasy or overly salted or buttered. Friendly, comfy atmosphere and very nice, efficient service. Restroom immaculate! If I lived closer, I would be a total regular. Stopped after visiting the Kinzua bridge, for my mother's 82nd birthday. We had a fish sub and a prime rib sub with fries, French onion soup and onion ring appetizer. The food was all very good, more fries than we could eat with the subs. The homemade onion soup was delicious. Onion rings were the best I have ever had! Very friendly wait staff. The dining area is nicely separated from the bar area and is very nicely decorated. You don't feel like your eating at a bar. I would highly recommend giving it a try. read more

The Barrel House is the BEST breakfast/brunch in McKean County! I love that they open at 6am and serve breakfast until 1pm!! This is great for me as a pescatarian since I tend to opt for breakfast foods even when out for lunch. It also makes it the perfect place to stop and still get brunch after riding the MJ2KB bike trail in the morning with friends and have the choice between breakfast food or lunch foods (or a combo of both)!! Coldest beer east of the Mississippi. The wild hog burger was excellent ham bacon and pulled pork on top of a big juicy burger with cheese drizzled in a Sweet and spicy barbecue sauce and a warm pretzel bun to top it off. This place is at a fairly busy intersection. It has a bar side that is open and large. It has a pool table and shuffleboard from what I could see. It also has a restaurant side. Both sides appeared clean. The decor was old signage, local sites from the area, sort of rustic feel. The bathrooms were clean and also rustic. The menu was diverse and prices were very reasonable. The breakfast is served till 1pm. Breakfast platters were good portion sizes and cooked perfectly. Ordered eggs over easy, sausage, home fries and toast. The toast was actually really good and not soggy. The sausage were hand formed patties and not pre formed frozen ones. The eggs were perfectly done. Also tried the buffalo pierogies with ranch. They were presented neatly on a plate and drizzled with ranch. They were quite tasty but could have been more warm. The rest of the menu looked good as well. We stopped by here on our way north. It's right at the intersection of 6 and 219 and doesn't even show up on Google search for restaurant. We walked into the bar entrance which is the road side entrance. I was scared thinking I don't want to eat in a dark pool hall. So I asked to used the bathroom and a friendly voice showed me which direction to go. Along the way I saw a decent looking dining hall so I breathed a sigh of relief and we asked to be seated. So it is deceiving from the outside. The hall was mostly empty. We sat and was served by a very nice lady who ended up being prompt, attentive and friendly. We could tell this is a local favorite. The meat tasted fine. It was grilled decently. The rest of the food tasted like it came from a box or a can, definitely pre-made. The desserts are freshly made though. I had a cookie sundae which was delicious. Prices are cheap. So come here for dessert, friendly service or ok but familiar box type food. Not a bad choice for the middle of nowhere and like the only place open on Sunday. Also the bathroom was surprisingly nice. Two stars for the food quality (except the sundae which my boyfriend loved). One star for the dining hall because it was just dirty... tables sticky, food under tables smushed on rugs, etc. Four stars for the attentive staff. read more

Stopped here on the way back from a family event. Food was ok. Nothing special. Waitress never came back to check if our food was satisfactory. My wife asked for butter on the side for her fish. I have property in this area and stopped there for dinner on my way in to camp. This visit was spectacular. Moving on, the next time, the service was horrible. We waited 20 minutes to even be acknowledged. They were sort of busy but had like 8 staff on the floor. ok, thought we would try again since its the only place around, we went in on Mothers Day. Huge mistake. We wanted to eat before hitting the road and were hustled to the bar side. We had a four year with us and did not appreciate having to sit with a little one watching people get slammed. We placed our order fairly quick but waited 1 hour and 40 minutes for our food. Our server who was one of the owners, explained their kitchen was not really big enough to handle the crowd. She gave us half off cards for snacks for our next visit. Figuring it was mothers day, we decided to try once more. My fiancé and I stopped. We were not greeted right away yet two servers passed by us that also saw us come in. The table next to us told us they were waiting 45 minutes and got their meals in stages. We were there over 1 1/2 hours. ridiculous!! Last weekend my daughter and I with the baby stopped to eat again before hitting the road, we walked in and made eye contact with two servers. We sat at a booth and saw a server taking an order two tables away. She left them and passed seriously right by us with menus in hand and never stopped or even dropped off the menus. A group of bikers came in from a ride (about 6 people) and sat down. Got menus immediately. Here we are still waiting for even the table to be wiped off. I told my daughter when the group of four older people came in and sat at the back of the dining room, if they get addressed next we are leaving. My grandson was hungry is the only reason we waited at all. We have a four hour drive. Next thing I know, my daughter looks at me and said "WE ARE LEAVING" and loud enough that a server looked over and watched us get up to leave and never addressed us then either. The food is rather bland at best and the service is HORRIBLE. It is worth the extra drive on 219 to Tacks Inn where the service is fantastic and the food is wonderful. They have a burger that tastes like home. It is a shame because it is a prime location for travelers. The only quick service you get is at the bar and that is only if the bartenders friends are not sitting there. There was an employee sitting at the bar (at least I think she worked there) who actually got up and got her own beer. I will not spend another minute or dime in this hovel. Came to this restaurant after a motorcycle ride with my buddies. We went up to see the bridge after riding for three hours. There isn't much to choose from up that way so we picked this place. There was no one there except for another large group of bikers. The waitresses were friendly and cute. Menu had a lot to pick from. I was on a diet at the time so I got a salad and steak.
