It is sad that the Jerry's Pro Shop is no longer (thanks COVID), as well as the arcade that once existed in the first room to the left when you enter. I cannot speak on any of the specific programs (i.e. Renegades) since its been over a decade since I last played, though I've been few times here and there for public skates. Pricing for that seems reasonable, though I've had my own blades to use. The only negatives I could mention is that the Men's restroom is in a bit of disrepair, and that's why this review is down a star. Otherwise, it's still the same I as I remember. Coach Dennis is doing a great job of keeping our families up-to-date with options and we were super excited to see Coach John and Coach Vince back on the ice! If you're looking for coaches who remember your kids names and individualize their progress and assessment... this is the place. From a cost standpoint, this club is a little more expensive than some in neighboring towns, but the facilities and coaches are worth the added expense. For those concerned about COVID protocol, all the coaches wear masks on the ice and there is no player contact for the squirt and mite skill sessions. Right now, there's no in-house league, which is understandable, but sad. We hope that there will be progress toward that end in the future. I highly recommend this arena, especially for your youngsters just starting out.

Our son had the opportunity to play goalie for the fall season and he was fortunate to be on a team with some good kids. The management of the team, the coaching, and the parents made our first experience with travel hockey, one to remember. If our son didn't age out of the bantam level, he'd want to stay with the team for the spring. If you're wondering if you should get your kid into hockey here, we highly recommend. The Firewagon group has been extremely high-touch and supportive throughout and you'd be hard pressed to find a more personal experience in the area.

Once you walk into the building you are in an open bright colored room with information posted, and it appears your will need to be buzzed into the next set of doors. Upon entering into the rink area to the right in an area to purchase skates and/or skate accessories and next to that is the concessions. Just a couple of steps from the concessions is the washrooms. Then coming back there are tables and just past those is the right. Dj booth is in the front as well. Going straight through the door there are games and moving past those is the prize area and skate rental area. The beverages are over $3.00 and some change each, but they sell the pitcher for a little over $6.00. They offer pizza and snacks as well. We ordered the nachos and fries. The nachos which were good, but those fries, they were so good. This group rented the whole place to enjoy their birthday and is was very nice. Employees were both very kind and fast. Its tucked into the woods about a mile inside homes and forest. The facility is pretty big for both an ice rink and a gymnastics facility. The ice rink also has a smaller rink designated for lessons. We came today for the Winter Fest and the staff was amazing and helpful. With children who did not know how to skate the ladies on the ice came immediately over to help get them on the ice and even skate around with them a little. The gymnastics area also has a window and sitting area for parents. The teachers in there as well were helpful with the kids. What a great unknown facility in Highland Park.

When it comes to kid classes I don't like to drive more than 10 minutes and Centennial Gymnastics is exactly 17 minutes away from my house (on a no traffic Sat morning), but I was looking for a gymnastics program that my daughter and I could do together. I've heard incredible things about Wilmette Gymnastics,* but their 3 year old class is without the parents. Typically I'm a fan of sending her to activities on her own, but was a bit nervous about sending her off to the balance beams, bars, etc without my supervision. I also used to teach gymnastics back in high school so selfishly wanted to revisit those days vicariously thru my daughter. Overall, I like the setup of this class. The gym is small so there's only one class at a time (at least on Saturday mornings). While small, they have it all: balance beam, bars, trampoline, etc. Since it's parent-tot it's setup as a series of obstacle courses so ti's a bit of a free-for-all for the kids, but I think that's perfect for this age. And while there's not a ton of instruction going on my daughter has learned how to do a forward roll and backward roll in just the few weeks we've been there. Perhaps cartwheels are next week? Tonight(03/14/26), I had been told to leave during the adult skate. My mother had gotten yelled at for trying to go on the skating floor as well. He asked me for my ID and I gave it to him. He proceeded to call me and my mother liars. I know for a fact that he let's children skate during adult skate. We did not get a refund and he did not offer one. Another issue is the bathrooms, specifically the women's bathroom as I have no reference for the men's. I have a disability and although I usually manage, I had used the accessible toilet. I had noticed that there was only a railing behind the toilet which I could not reach. Also during the session, a kid touched me inappropriately and smiled afterwards. I do not feel safe at Xtreme Wheels. I am afraid to go back now because I feel as if I will be banned permanently.

My 8-year-old was surrounded by a group of unsupervised 13-year-olds who tripped him and struck him in the back of the head. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, I was told that drop-offs are permitted, and no action was taken to remove the older children involved. Despite three witnesses confirming what happened, staff chose to side with the teens, accepting their explanation that it was an "accident." When the manager confronted the group, I saw them laughing, which gave me the clear impression that the seriousness of the situation was not acknowledged. Additionally, there seems to be a general lack of enforcement when it comes to the rules on the skating floor. At times, it feels like skating at Xtreme Wheels is a free-for-all. Families are trying to enjoy their time, but they're often sharing the space with unsupervised kids running around without accountability. I believe that if floor rules were more consistently enforced, it would create a safer and more enjoyable environment--especially for families with younger children.
