When we (my husband & I) were called back for our appointment, she only shook my hand. I understand that it's an appointment for me and baby but as my biggest supporter, I felt that he was dismissed from the very beginning. During the appointment all was going smoothly until she asked about my medical history, and my husband made a comment that I've struggled with anxiety since we met and Rodin then commented back "have you guys been together for like a thousand years or something?". Her comment not really even making sense, but I found that her comment was very unprofessional, dismissive, unnecessary, and to an extent disrespectful to us both. Like I said, this was my first experience and I purposely scheduled with someone else the next time. Don't schedule with Rodin, her expertise was good but her customer care was horrible and if anyone should know better not to kick someone while they are down it is her with her knowledge in postpartum care. First impression is everything!

After a negative experience with an at-home lactation consultant, I set up an outpatient visit with…read morea TMC lactation consultant. Best decision I've made. This saved my breastfeeding relationship with my baby. I worked with Aliceann, who was incredibly helpful. TMC lactation services are usually covered by insurance, but if not, they are covered by grant funding, so you will not be charged (FREE). During an outpatient visit, the consultant evaluates your baby's overall well-being, looks at your positioning and latch, and does a weighted feed, so you know how much your baby is drinking. It's in a comfortable private room and doesn't feel like a hospital. My baby struggled with her latch from the beginning. After a miserable 2 months of pumping, attempting to breastfeed through extreme pain, and supplementing, Aliceann gave me a solid plan. She wrote down for me when to try breastfeeding, when and how much bottle feeding my baby needed, and when to pump. It was such a relief to have a plan! I borrowed a hospital pump and used that along with tips from Aliceann to increase my production levels. She referred me to a Speech Language Pathologist specializing in infant feeding, as well as a physical therapist for treatment of a milk bleb, and a breastfeeding medicine doctor. With Aliceann's help and the help of these specialists, my baby was diagnosed with a posterior tongue tie, which was clipped. Two weeks later she was latching like a pro, and we've been exclusively breastfeeding ever since! Aliceann truly made the difference in my breastfeeding journey and I am so lucky to have met her. She was always responsive to my questions and concerns through email, even though she stays very busy with moms needing help like I did. I highly recommend visiting TMC lactation services if you are struggling with breastfeeding. I also highly recommend the TMC breastfeeding support group on Mondays. While you won't get the individual attention of an outpatient visit, the support from other moms struggling with breastfeeding is totally worth it.

I was proved otherwise after a rough first few days home, followed by a pediatrician's visit. My baby girl had lost a little over 10% of her weight in the first few days of life. The pediatrician recommended that I start feeding with a combo of formula. However, I was hesitant to move on to formula right away, given everything I'd heard in the breastfeeding community. There are so many mixed messages out there. I was so lucky that my Doula referred us to Katie, a registered nurse and certified lactation consultant. She did home visits, and since I was so stressed and tired, a home visit was a lifesaver. Katie was able to come that same evening; I couldn't believe it. After a weighted feeding, we discovered I was seriously underproducing, and my baby girl was hungry. It was such an emotional time for us; Katie was compassionate and kind as I sobbed in my living room. She stayed longer to ensure we had everything needed to get our baby girl through the night. She taught us about formula and bottles and even showed me how to work my pump so I could start pumping immediately. Katie came again the next day to ensure baby gained some weight through the night and continued to follow up weekly as we monitored my supply and baby's weight. Katie helped me learn that some of my health history likely was the reason I was underproducing and wouldn't ever be able to pump enough to bring my supply up to breastfeed exclusively. She knows so much about breastfeeding. I had no idea about the complexity of breastfeeding. It's incredible what Katie understands from observing baby feed, assessing her movement, etcetera. We have continued to meet with Katie, and now our little one is almost two months old and thriving. I'd been having latching issues on one side; Katie kept following up on it and discovered that the baby was having some neck issues, potentially torticollis. As her neck tension wasn't improving, Katie referred us to physical therapy but gave us some alternative feeding methods until we could get her into physical therapy. One day using Katie's advice, we are already seeing improvements in baby's mood. I should have met with Katie during pregnancy so I had support set up in advance regardless of what happened; thank goodness I could see her when I did. Call her if you need help; you'll be so happy you did!

The breastfeeding journey that a person goes through postpartum is definitely not something one can…read morefully prepare for. I had a C-section and things didn't go as planned, which made it very difficult to feed my baby in the beginning. At the hospital I was scared and we ultimately had to give the baby donor milk in order to feed her. I tried getting her to latch and ended up causing damage. The hospital was so short-staffed, that they weren't able to provide a lactation consultant until the day before discharge and by then we were already 3 days into her getting donor milk via a bottle. Once I was at home, I felt hopeless. I felt like there's no way I was going to be able to breastfeed my daughter or even pump enough to provide breast milk for her. They sent me home on the agreement that I would give her formula until my milk came in. For the first two weeks of her life I was barely pumping enough to feed her. That is when I found Katie through The Lactation Network. Her lactation consultation services have helped me on this journey and it has been a night and day difference. I noticed improvement after just the first consultation appointment. It turns out, it was a combination of factors that were affecting my supply and output. Flange size, frequency of pumping, and even my mental health was affecting it. Weighted feeds also really helped to show me how much my daughter was actually consuming when latched. Throughout the entire process, Katie helped us to feel so comfortable and reassured. She never made me feel rushed or pressured to do anything at a certain pace. Now I feel more confident that I can provide for my daughter. She is also very attentive to partners being there as well. My husband is my rock and goes with me to every appointment. He felt that he was listened to and that Katie truly cared about his input as well. We have attended both in-office and at-home visits with Katie. It was very calm and serene in the office and at home Katie made us feel very comfortable with the process. If I hadn't have sought out Katie's help, I probably would have given up before I even had a chance to see what I could provide for my daughter. I am so thankful for the services that Katie have provided thus far. Even though she tells me it is me doing the work, I still couldn't have mentally and physically come this far without her help. Prior to hiring Desiree, we had a baby that would not sleep in her bassinet, would only nap if someone was holding her, and wouldn't really eat. I quite literally coined our baby as the "gassiest, most fussy baby," and I remember Desiree telling me, "No you don't, don't worry I got you." She explained her training program and how things would be done and we fully trusted her and her expertise. Within a few days, we already noticed a difference. Our baby was now napping in her bassinet, was eating, smiling, and RARELY crying. Fast forward a few weeks, our baby is fully sleeping through the night, from 7 pm to 7 am. My husband and I can actually have time together to have dinner and watch a show after she goes down, and it has been the best thing for our marriage. At every corner we turned, Desiree was there. They admitted her to the ER, then placed her in their Oncology dept. because she was six years post cancer diagnosis with no new cancer. Ten days later, she died from pneumonia and "malnutrition ". Do not take your loved one to this facility.The nurses were good.The attending MD's had zero bedside manner. I was told we had three days to move my sister to hospice or they would remove her!And after two days, while we frantically called every hospice facility on the hospital's recommended list,Dr. Fortuna and their hospice coordinator, Noreen, became rude, borderline aggressive, w/lharassing me about moving to hospice.The last week of my sister's life had little dignity. It was unnecessarily stressful.A minor observation: their bed linens were ripped and disgusting. And no one should encourage a dying woman to get some rest while leaving a bright fluorescent light on her face!

The bad news is that they discharged me with dizziness and didn't bother to perform the Epley maneuver - a 2 1/2 minute procedure that would have resolved my vertigo. "You're discharged." "Oh. The bloodwork must have come out ok?" "I'm not gonna blow smoke up your ass. I haven't looked at it." Upon the recommendation of Gemini, I watched a YouTube video when I got home and did it myself. The third time it worked. Additional bills continue to drift in, and the indignity festers. Now the accumulated total is approaching $1,000 and counting. Late-stage capitalism at its finest.
