This place is a great option for the valley. However, let me first caution you the prices on the menu are slightly less than they actually charge you and so if you are ordering based on your budget beware The staff was friendly and the food was a change from the same old same old. It was tasty but pricey and there was no exceptions for less ingredients. I asked for a plain baked potato with butter and cheese and they said sure for the same $11 loaded potato price. So all in all pricey for the location and actual item but hearty portions and flavorful ina gas station setting. Some things do not exactly align. read more

Such a great accidental find. This gem is located within circle K, but don't let that discourage you. I intended to get some water and saw this amazing place. True Mexican food that includes a extensive menu. I had the Carnitas burrito that included pickled cabbage and onions. Such a great combination. You say anything about the ten minute or five minute hold time or ask why they ignored you and it's always, oh we busy. This place is incredible. The definition of a hole in the wall. It was recommended to me at Italian Infusion (their sister resturaunt that is also incredible), and I decided to try it. I got the el cochi loco fries, al pastor tacos, and caramel churros. They are generous with the portions and were not skimpy with the meat. The churros were the best I've ever had. Today was a grand day for me. Today I drove a quarter mile down the hill from my quiet office in Española, to the gas station that houses Barrio Fries: Modest, infamous, underestimated, Low-Rider-riddled Espanola's sure-to-be Wild Card SMASH nosh spot. I ordered a Half Order of the Nacho Libre Fries with so much glee I forgot I was standing in a GAS STATION , and the time period from when I ordered to when I popped open the styrofoam suitcase called a To-Go box is a bit of a blur. (Rumor has it a Full Order is served up in a pizza box -- lore I will happily investigate in weeks to come.) I was immediately molywhopped by the steamy haze only hot-ass green chile and bacon can make. Chile and bacon that is drizzled with beer queso and chunks of beef and onion. Once you shovel your way past the orgy of showstoppers, you get to the perfectly executed simplicity of the thick fries. Every single forkful was a savory balance of spice, salt, crunch, goo, brightness, and creaminess. Glad I had no plans to share -- feelings would have been hurt. . . . In short (too effing late), this is a truly New Mexican establishment trying to do humble, simple New Mexican cuisine waaay more modestly than necessary. Got a burrito from here a while back. Says breakfast burritos comes with 4 eggs. Came back with the skimpiest burritos ever, literally had one egg in each burrito, and we had to pay extra for cheese.
