Lunch Sunday at the Burrito Company. This is my 5th time in Santa Fe and Jan's sixth time, but our first time to try the Burrito Co. We've walked by it many times on previous visits and tried it Sunday on a whim. We walked in and grabbed a couple of seats at the bar and ordered Bloody Marrys. They were good. Liked the garnish with olives and a peppercini. Did not care for the topper. A dried candy wrapped around a straw called a Mega Flechazos. That was a new one on me. Here is what Google had to say about it: "Flechazos" is also the name for popular Mexican tamarind candies, known for their tangy, sweet, and spicy flavor. I ordered a beef burrito with red sauce. It came with brown beans and pozole. The burrito was excellent. Great flavor. Jan ordered the Carne Adovada plate. It's pork marinated in red Chili's. It was excellent. We stumbled upon this restaurant/bar while exploring the Plaza. A sign describing their happy hour caught our eye, and the weather being nice, we chose a table outdoors. Two Bloody Mary's and a Margarita later, we discussed how much we enjoyed the apps we ordered from the happy hour menu. The taquitos were so good we reordered them. The baby bombs were also quite tasty. Service was good. Seating was comfortable. Our only regret was not having ordered some of the more exotic cocktails on the happy hour menu. This was a cool spot for a quick lunch in old town Santa Fe. I was drawn in by the colorful entryway and saw they had a few veggie options. Staff was amazingly friendly and helpful when asking about the menu. We were short on time, having less than two hours to explore town, so having our food served quickly was also a big win. Really fun interior with lots of decor and art to admire. I got the mushroom street tacos and the portion size was perfect for lunch. The mushrooms were nicely seasoned and slightly crisp. The rice and beans side was a nice extra and getting the black beans offered as vegetarian was a nice touch. We stopped in while looking for a place that wasn't too busy, and it turned out to be a pretty good pick. Definitely a more casual place, and you seat yourself. Food came out pretty quickly and the whole experience was pretty fast and smooth. I ordered the street tacos, and the tortillas that came with them were bomb! The tacos overall were very good, they came with 2 which were the perfect size. I also got a horchata, which was pretty big. But something about the flavor didn't quite land for me, not bad, just a little off in a way I can't really pinpoint. Pricing felt decent for the area and the portion sizes were good. Service was fast and friendly. They take your order at the counter and bring the food to your table, so there's not a lot of interaction with the staff. This was a great spot for a quick dinner. We walked in, were sat within a few minutes, and ordered pretty quickly. I was excited to see that they had coin margaritas. they also had a special margarita that evening. A Blood Orange margarita, which was pretty tasty! For my dinner, I ordered a small Caesar salad, a street taco plate and guacamole and chips. My partner ordered the fajitas and he loved his food. We loved the chips and guac as it also came with three different types of salsa, and a LARGE basket of chips. We were sat at the front of the restaurant, which was a large wall of window, so if it were daylight, you could people watch. But it was dinner and winter, so it was a little chilly. We were looking for a quick and easy lunch, and The Burrito Company fit the bill! Signage inside shares how Kimo, the founder, came from El Salvador to New Mexico. The restaurant is still in the family, run by the next generation. Ordering at the counter was easy; we made our choices, filled our own soft drinks as directed, and took our order number to a table outside. The patio is really pleasant, with lush plants, tables of various sizes, and plenty of shade. Our food was delivered quickly. It wasn't as spicy as I expected but hot sauce options were available. I was extremely happy to have lunch here, because burritos are my favorite food! Located in the heart of downtown Santa Fe, it seemed like there were many tourists. Was disappointed with my food. The chili had no heat to it AT ALL. However, since it is located in a tourist area, I can understand the low/no heat to the chili. The service was good! We went into town for our last vacation. By happy coincidence, our first choice was booked. Despite being early when we walked up to The Burrito Company, the manager on duty invited us in from the cold. He told us to pick a table and our server immediately came over after we were all seated. El Sancho (staff pick margarita) was insane. It has actual jalapenos in it! We had a variety at our table from kids meals to vegetarian. I personally had their new duck mole enchiladas. All was eaten and enjoyed. The finale was Pastel de Chocolate y Toffee and the Mexican Chocolate Mousse. The kids dug the chocolate ice cream pie. The adults dreamt about the mousse later. Walked by this place and decided to stop in for breakfast. We ordered the breakfast quesadilla which was awesome, the breakfast burrito with bacon, which is very big, filling, and delicious, and the blue corn piñon pancakes with maple syrup were also delicious. Highly recommend and I would definitely go back. Didn't take pics as I was not expecting to post, but it was so good I wanted to share my experience. Santa Fe is expensive. It's Mexican Sedona. So, you gotta give it up to the people not trying to rip off tourists. This casual and festive place had a unique menu with classics, self-serve refills, delicious food, and friendly service. My chicken burrito was full of wet, tender, shredded chicken (contradicting fellow elite Shannon W's June review). It wasn't huge, yet I saved half of it for breakfast, maybe because we had the chips and trio to start (the queso was fine, the fresh guacamole needed a squirt of lemon and some salt). I noticed the refried beans in there, but not enough to make a difference in the flavor. The chicken was very tender, and there was a lot of it , but to me, there was no flavor. Used to be good.... not anymore. Beans had no flavor, no salt, nothing. The salsa was straight from the can pureed tomatoes (dominating flavor of sweet cheap tomatoes) with a couple jalapeños blended in, no added garlic, salt, nor any spice. The green chile was very mild and probably the least impressive we have tasted in all of New Mexico (we are from here and eat out A LOT!). The red chile is decent. At least once a month I walk out here and get a breakfast burrito with a different meat. It is always good and they come out pretty fast when you take them to go. They're pretty warm so I tend to walk for 5+ minutes before digging in. No surprise they are often swamped when the plaza has events in the morning. read more

Can I say "bigger than your hand" burrito?! The burrito was good but definitely lots of potato, very sloppy with the sauce and the cheese and in the end they confused the labeling on the 2 burritos that we ordered. I chose the bacon with both red and green chili (xmas as they call it in NM) and my hubby opted for the chorizo with green chili only. The bacon was good, maintained its crispiness within the burrito which is always nice. The amount of potato did take over the rest of the ingredients so I wish that we opted for no potato to keep it a little less carb intensive. The chorizo was a little skimpy and I think it needed a little more salt overall but nonetheless it did hit the spot for hunger and a nice meal to hold you through the next stop. They do serve both smothered and handheld burritos so take your pick when you come to town :) read more
