Coffee is good! But place is filled with fruit flies so I wouldn't eat/hang out there. I only get the food to go now, otherwise I'm bothered by the bugs going after my food. We stopped in twice this weekend for some coffee and snacks. Scones and lattes were amazing. The Blackhawk breakfast bowl didn't disappoint either. Even just a plain regular coffee was very good. There is plenty of seating and the smells are worth staying for. Enjoy! read more

I ordered a villa breakfast bowl with avocado (extra $1.50) order comes at work and dude just set it on the ledge in the common area of my salon. I go to open it and my bowl thats is suppose to come in a LARGE bowl was in a SOUP CUP LOL with no avocado of course. Literally 3 bites of food when I was starving and the was my only 10 min break to eat so could not reorder. I call and talk to a manager he says there's "nothing" he can do and to call grub hub. Spent $9 on the bowl $4 delivery and $3 tip for a soup cup filled with 3 bites of food. What a joke. At least a gift card for another bowl and cover the cost of delivery? Will nevvver order from this barriques again. Have had no problems from other locations how ever. read more

excellent atmosphere. love the comfy couches and chairs. during the summer, outdoor seating is available. many outlets for laptop charging. free wi-fi. average coffee. not the best coffee connoisseur actually, but the mochas are good -- and the mocha shake when they have it. the cheddar grilled cheese is to die for. and the potato salad that comes on the side is delicious too; there are pieces of bacon in it! extensive collection of wines. love coming here and sharing a bottle of wine with a friend for conversation and catching up. sometimes it can get crowded and it's hard to find a seat.. but overall, a 5 star experience. read more

The place itself is great and I used to go every morning during the work week, but I would not recommend going early in the morning for coffee. You will be accosted by homeless individuals that are begging for you to buy them a coffee along with the coffee you are buying for yourself. They will approach you as you are entering the building, ordering/paying for your coffee and even when you have paid and are just waiting for your order to be fulfilled. This has happened to me and I have seen it happen to many others on a consistent basis lately (a few times a week). The staff chooses not to do anything about it. I have now started getting my morning coffee elsewhere. read more

Delicious coffee drinks for reasonable prices. The interior of the shop is nice and spacious. There is a bar with stools and plenty of tables on the first floor. The second floor looks like it'd be a quiet and cozy place to get some work done. I tried the baby grasshopper coffee drink and it was perfect- chocolatey and minty but not too sweet. It wasn't cheap but it was a generous size for the price. I can't wait to go back and try some of their food! read more

This establishment has it all, excellent coffee & tea and pretty decent service. (They sell Alterra products. Try the mint green tea, I rarely get anything else... it's that good) The lofty structure gets lots of lovely sunlight. What sets Barriques far and away from all of the other coffees shops in the area is that their sandwiches are AMAZING, and this is coming from someone who has distinct sandwich apathy. Additionally, they have a variety of scrumptious cookies (check out the Cowboy cookie!), a fairly priced yogurt parfait, and tasty tasty scones. Like Super M said, it's also serves alcohol so you can reward yourself with a decadent glass of wine for your hard work. (be it writing your thesis or finishing your sandwich all by yourself) The Wi-Fi is reliable but can be slow when the place is packed. For those of you who are students and dwell in coffee shops with your lap top-- Barriques is no longer a secret and this place fills up quickly. You may have a difficult time finding a place to sit. It's not far from State Street, yet manages to avoid that annoying, overcrowded feeling all those coffee shops get every night (IMO). It's pretty much everything I could ask for from a café: nice atmosphere (dark tones), good coffee (fancy pantses be warned, I only drink lattes), good food, and spacious - but not too spacious. read more

Barrique's is like my second home! It has everything you need if you're a late night studier like myself. They have free wi-fi (although it can be slow when a bunch of people are using it), coffee, lattes, WINE, food, excellent scones and slices of pie. I would eat there more often but the food is a little pricey, although delicious. I think their yogurt parfaits are the perfect snack, and go great with a coffee. I've tried studying at several other coffee shops, but Barrique's wins the prize everytime. read more

Of all the coffee shops downtown Barriques is my favorite, and not just because it the closest one to my house. I usually just get brewed coffee, but their lattes are good, and they have a big variety of teas. Their sandwiches and salad are good too(a little pricey); I like the tuna sandwich, and the hummus sandwich. Their cookies are really good too, especially the Cowboy cookie. I also use Barriques as my wine shop. I can always find something I like, and the staff are usually very helpful with suggestions. My only complaint about Barriques is that it can be hard to find a seat during the day on the weekends and on some evenings. read more

This is a place where you can feel comfortable once you sit down. The coffee was serviceable, though more homogenous tasting than Colectivo on the other side of the Capitol Square. Menu prices and portion sizes of menu items accurately reflect the neighborhood's faux upscale intention, right down to the rather honed down looking slices of key lime pie under the glass counter display. While the stone cold demeanor of the barista would normally be a potential deal breaker, my lucky break was to get an outstanding and more reasonably priced cookie for the road. Was very much of a pleasant time to be at the Barriques. I had an espresso frappe. The staff was so nice and friendly. The drink came out delicious. And it wasn't much of a wait on a Saturday afternoon. It has plenty of seating and even outdoors in the summer. I have to say what is lack compare to my most favorable coffee shop is that the view of the cafe just isn't really that much exciting. Being two blocks away from the Capitol does really make a difference if u enjoy people watching as much as I do. It is just a personal preference I would say though. Barriques has a relaxed, unique, and artsy atmosphere... plus there is wine! I like the variety of food choices as well as the creativity of the specialty drinks. Another perk is for breakfast lovers-they serve breakfast until 1 hour before close and I highly recommend the breakfast sandwich with applewood bacon added. I agree with a couple of the other reviewers on here that in terms of a study space, the outlet distribution is frustrating. What I like about it as a study space is unlike a lot of other coffee shops/cafes who play their music really loud, Barriques has the volume set at a reasonable level. Oh and the Belly perks are worthwhile. you can belly once an hour! read more

I've been to a lot of coffee places around town, and I'm pretty sure that Barrique's is the best of them (at least the location on W. Washington). Everything I've had here - coffee, baked goods, sandwiches - has been really good. You can also get wine and beer here; in fact, the wine selection is extensive and one of their specialties. The place itself is palatial - two floors of seating, with a very cool layout - and I've never had a problem with the free WiFi. Staff is pretty friendly and helpful, as coffee-place staffs go. This is the place I always get coffee before work in the morning. I always judge a coffee place by their black coffee, and Barriques always has fresh and delicious coffee throughout the day. They have raw sugar available, which is a must for a coffee snob, along with half & half, 2% and whole milk . So definitely a Madison coffee shop. Most of the time you go to a bar and their are bikes out front you are thinking Harley's. This place had the petal kind. Not sure what was going on but when we went there must have been 50 of them. Its been a while since I went, but the food was unique but good. I had some type of bikers wrap. Good quality food for lunch but continual issues lately lower my rating. I went to get a hummus wrap but they were out. Next time I didn't have cash and they were having a problem accepting cards. I've also noticed longer wait times which makes me wonder if they have enough staff for the lunch rush. read more
