Barry Regent is the best dry cleaners in Chicago hands down. They are expensive so I choose what I bring there. It's not cost effective for the $40 discount pants I bought at Target while stranded during a snowstorm but if you want it done right, this is the place. If you think about the money we invest in our clothes, the frequency of dry cleaning cycles needed during the lifespan of article of clothing and the wear and tear caused by that process it makes fiscal sense to use a dry cleaners that will treat your clothing with care, do a perfect job therefore extending the lifespan of that item. One ruined dress from a too-hot iron or the failure to effectively remove a stain by a lesser dry cleaners and your perceived savings at a cheaper dry cleaners is down the drain. They do a fantastic job and handle specialty items like suede and taffeta without blinking an eye. I used to cringe at the "oh no" look from my former dry cleaners every time I brought an item in that had red wine stains or pasta sauce from a particularly lively dinner party. I don't need judgment ...I have my family for that. I need it done right without a hassle and Barry Regent comes through every time. read more

I recently went to Barry Regent for the first time, and to be honest I was blown away. Until now, I avoided getting my dry cleaning done for as long as possible due to the hassle and often disappointing results. But the first time I walked in to Barry Regent, I was pleasantly surprised. I brought in a silk dress with a large red wine stain down the front, and I wasn't expecting much. The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and pleasant, and took the time to hear out my concerns about the massive stain. She brought her manager, Paul, over to take a look as well, and he was very helpful as well. They both seemed cautiously optimistic and were very reassuring that they would try their best, though they did ask me to sign a waiver in case they could not remove the stain. I picked up my dress three days later, and it was almost unrecognizable! The stain was completely gone and the dress looked almost brand new! I was so impressed, and the price was very reasonable for such great results. I have continued to bring my clothes here ever since, and plan to do so as long as I live in Chicago. The staff is always incredibly friendly, and will often get my order without even taking my information. The fact that they know me that well after just a few weeks really shows their dedication to customer service. And in the rare case that they cannot completely clean a garment they are very professional and try their best to make up for it. I enjoy going in to Barry Regent, because they care about their customers, and provide amazing service. No wonder they've been voted one of the best in Chicago, and it shows! read more

Worst experience ever. I will never go to this place ever again for dry cleaning or tailoring. The job Emel did on my two dresses was so poor it will cost me $200 to fix her work. Both of the dresses I took there cost me $80 for the tailoring and the job looked rushed, inexperienced, there were several things she ended up forgetting to do - thankfully. I gave them more than enough time (3 weeks) to do the work. The managers are difficult, unresponsive and certainly not customer service oriented. I will never go here again. read more

They have to be the worst cleaners in the city. They have now ruined two items of mine and have taken no responsiblity. One of them a jacket to which they melted the buttons and tore the lining. They refuse to take any responsibility and told me to go to the manufacture to have it replacedl. Please don't give Barry Regent your business. read more

Please DO NOT EVER take you clothes to this place. I would use worse language, but then this may not be posted! I just picked up my wedding dress that I need to wear again for a church ceremony, and it looks like it was dragged across the floor. The bottom is black and so is the bottom of the dress bag that I left there. I had them call the manager and he said that he cleaned it today! However, his staff told me it was only steamed. So, he lied and they took no responsibility for the extra dirt. Best in Chicago...Oh my god...please, please, please get this place out of business! read more

I was in this place yesterday and heard the owner disrespect the workers...I was humiliated for them...I've been a customer here for years and spend at least $100-200 every time I visit,but after hearing that He/ they will never get my business again...FINDING ANOTHER CLEANERS!!!! read more

Here goes... After being a loyal customer of BR for over 30 years, I'm declaring this business a crap-shoot. Sort their ratings by date and you'll see their glory days are behind them. After a negative experience that went on for a few days I took the item in question to another cleaners and they did a much, much, much, better job than Barry and told me my request was not unusual. Prices have always been high. The morning staff and all the managers have excellent customer service. For several years I stopped using for alterations because of 2 weeks for the smallest of jobs but recently the nice lady is in charge. I took an on-line purchased coat in with good results and she did it in a week so I would use for alterations. BUT, I have to agree with the Chris guy who submitted a YELP with one star over a shirt. They believe they are always right. And, I had a similar experience with the other Yelper with the damaged blouse that they wrapped up and never mentioned. That happened to me a few years ago. I noticed all the shredding in the back before leaving the store. After the manager became involved he explained silk breaks down, yada yada AND he knows they have cleaned the blouse for year. OK - I see how that can happen... but they did not have the courtesy to place a note outside the bag (they had a 2X3 "Best Can Be Done" tag tucked inside) and given that they had made a few hundred dollars cleaning the blouse for years, you'd think they would not charge me and we'd both mourn the death. My recent experience had so much involved I can't even get started. Poor communications, they had questions on my job but never bothered to call me back - made the decision on their own, told me I never spoke to the manager when I had, ignored his request for a do-over once (he admitted it) and then either ignored his 2nd request, did it wrong again, or he told them not to do it. What was once a very good dry cleaners is now skating on past success. I will use them for same day items. I will use them for nicer items (and cross my fingers) but will continue to look for a substitute. I have moved another type of item (the one that they said they could do as requested but after 3 attempts did not) along with my non-rush items to my new dry cleaners partner. Maybe a 3 star, but factor in their cost and their inability to deal with a bad situation - which happens - I have to be honest and give 'em a 2. read more

they do a great job, but it cost $6.50 to clean a dress shirt - yikes

I tried this place for the first time ever because i just moved into the area. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE! Whatever you do, do not go here. I took a bag to be cleaned, i made sure they knew about where the stains are located on the bag and they said not a problem. Not only did i get the bag back with the stains still on it the bag, it is falling apart on my now. Part of the outside lining is sticking out and the inside of the bag looks like it has been white washed. It used to say juicy couture on the inside but not anymore. They practically ruined my bag, im going to take it to another cleaners to see if they can fix it, i have had it dry cleaned before and know that those stains are totally able to come out. and on top of all of this i brought it there with 3 other shirts. I was quoted $50 but when i got there payed $65. HUGE WAIST OF TIME AND MONEY! What a rip off. I wish i never went there, so learn from my mistake. read more
