Service is an issue with Barry regent. It is uneven and at times down right snotty. Brought in shirts, agreed upon due date. Go to get the shirts, not ready. Go back a week later, they did not include them in other cleaning that was picked up. Went back again, not there. Called them when got home told them was still missing shirts. They told me they cannot find them. They would have a manager call me. Clerk called back a little while later, they found the shirts. Now need to make another trip. Went back again on the same day. New clerk, snotty youngster. When I mentioned that all the difficulties, she could care less. She got the shirts, told me they were in plain site and any moron could see them. I asked for a discount for my inconvenience, she said 'doesn't work that way buster - life sucks deal with it' Suggestion: fire snotty clerk; when you inconvenience a customer, apologize, perhaps offer a coupon for a few dollars off the next batch of clothes brought in. UPDATE: management contacted me to gather more information on the situation that occurred and to seek confirmation of the details. Management apologized for both not handling the original situation of losing the shirts (detailed above)--the clerk should have alerted a manager--and for the rude behavior of the clerk on the return trip. Upgrading them from two stars to three for their response. Based upon the response of management, will continue to use Barry-Regent to give them another chance. read more

I have been using Barry Regents dry cleaning services for the last 7 years but NO MORE! There customer service has taken a nose dive and it seems all they care about is over charging their patrons whist providing no customer service. I bought a coupon on yelp and went in to drop off a bunch of clothes. They tallied up the total cost (the manager even came over to make sure it was correct) and it came to $47.95. The coupon I had was worth $50 so they (the employee AND the manager) stated that I had a refund of $2.05 for the next time I came in. So a week later I go in to pick up my dry cleaning and..what do you know....I miraculously owe $25!!! It seems that they made a mistake and forgot to tally up the "TOTAL" while I was there (maybe hire people who know how to add and use a computer??!) and because of their mistake I now owe them money!! I wouldnt have gotten all my clothes cleaned there if I knew in advance that instead of having a credit of $2.05 I was going to owe $25!!! It seems to me that if they cared at all for their customers they would have acknowledged their mistake and given me the $25 free of charge. Good riddance! read more

I don't generally buy clothes that require dry cleaning, because I'm cheap and because I don't trust other people to handle my clothes. I think that stems from my mother "misplacing" (see: trashing) my favorite pair of pants when I was like 10 years old because they were thread-bare and sad. Anyhoo, back to Barry Regent. I attended a wedding in May... And let's just say a nice young lady on my shuttle back to our hotel had a little "accident" (see: spinach dip + open bar for 4 hours) in my frickin' lap!! That's right. You're thinking what I'm thinking.... It's the worst thing I think that can ever happen, ESPECIALLY when I was wearing such a pretty dress!!! So I'm totally embarrassed to bring this into the cleaners because it smells terrible and I don't want them to think that I threw up on myself!!! (I did rinse it out at the hotel, but trust me, that didn't do much.) Long story short, they cleaned it, it's clean. No markings or spinach remnants in sight. THANK GOD!! It did still kind of smell when I got it back, but I took it out of the bag and it aired right out. All it ended up costing me was $13 bucks and a little sliver of my dignity. read more

Completely overpriced. I brought in a dress to get shortened and cleaned. I don't remember what the price should have been according to the price list, but for some reason my dress didn't meet their criteria so there were additional charges for both the shortening and the cleaning. Not only did they quote me (I made sure they wrote the quote down) more than their price list because of my "unusual" dress, but when I came to pick it up, they tried charging me even more. I complained and showed them my copy of the receipt with the quoted price and they agreed to that. I should have gone somewhere else, but I didn't ask the price until after they pinned it and I was in a hurry and didn't have time to go shopping around for a dry cleaner. I think they only stay in business because they're located in a busy area. Will not go back. There's plenty of other cleaners in the area. read more

Nobody is as upfront, and honest as Barry Regent. I recently brought in a white shirt, with black detailing. Upon presenting the shirt, I was informed that the black dye had the potential to transfer on to the white part of the shirt. We talked about my options, and were able to come up with a solution. I then had to sign a paper taking liability for whatever happens. Sounds like a nightmare, until you realize other cleaners would not care enough to even mention it. This place goes above, and beyond in the way of customer service. If you need something special done, or just need a regularly dry cleaners... don't go anywhere else! Cannot believe this just happen I have been taking my clothes to barry-regent for probably 20 years I was running a little late cuz I was stuck in traffic I called them and said can you please pull my clothes I'll probably get there like 630 or 631 I got there at 6:31 they were all standing inside the doors were locked I was knocking they were all staring at me there had to be five employees I said would you please just hand me my clothes here's a check and you open the door it will take 2 minutes it was literally 631 they all stared at me shook their head said NO. After 20 years of loyal service going to this cleaners they couldn't open the door because I was one minute late outrageous will pick up my clothes tomorrow and never ever bring them back to this cleaners again. read more

I've taken my down coats to this place for over 35 years to be cleaned and stored over the summer months. However, this fall, one of their employees mixed up my long down Eddie Bauer coat with another customer's long down coat, which is absolutely different from mine, e.g., Medium size instead of my petite size so longer than mine, less pockets, among other missing features. Richard, the manager, wouldn't offer any kind of discount on what I paid for cleaning and storage nor reimbursement of any kind to compensate for a coat that originally cost me $300+ and would cost me the same to replace, as the coat I received back is a lower quality coat. Seems to me that after over 35 years of loyalty to Barry Regent Cleaners, I should have been treated better! read more

Barry Regent destroyed my Celine bag. It was almost a $3,000 bag and in cleaning it, they singed the leather, changed the color of the suede, destroyed the shape, and ruined the bag. They have been very negligent in remedying the situation. It is almost a year later, and I still don't have my bag back. They sent it somewhere in Wisconsin to have it "re-constructed." I will believe it when I see it. What they should have done, is admitted fault, and paid for the bag as soon as they destroyed it. read more

Probably the best cleaners in the city, definitely the best in Lakeview and Lincoln Park. Not cheap, so if I'm just doing old dress shirts, I go to the $1.75 cleaners down the street. Barry Regent was recommended to me by some of my neighbors after having a few bad experiences at other dry cleaners. I must say I was very impressed with the way things turned out. Not only did I have my clothes cleaned I also had them hem a few pairs of my pants. They did an exceptional job. While I do find them to be a bit pricy, I find it well worth the price. Barry Regent is supposed to be the best. I have taken many basic items there and never had a problem, but then again, I've never asked for anything but run-of-the-mill cleaning. Recently I took a vintage silk dress in that had several stains. Like all dry cleaners, they make no promises when they attempt to remove stains. So, I wasn't terribly surprised that they didn't get them out. However, the dress came back with several tears in the fabric. When I expressed my disappointment, the manager was completely unsympathetic and said that I had asked for dry cleaning and that is what they did. OK, fine. But you also damaged the dress! How about an apology? Or a discount on the price ($30) of service? I brought the dress home and used the White Laundress Stain Solution on it and rinsed it in cool water and POOF -- the stains are gone. read more

Yeah, I've posted this review before and it mysteriously disappears... It's long so here's a summary: don't go to Barry Regent! My wife dropped of her wedding dress at Barry Regent Cleaners 8/4/2007 to be steamed. The dress is an original design purchased at Silver Moon. The dress is a 1930's slip-style dress with a beaded appliqué hip detail made from pieces of a 1920's era dress. An employee named Q----- accepted the wedding dress. Q was instructed to not steam near or over the beaded appliqué hip detail of the dress. Q assured my wife that would personally take care of the dress and then printed a note on the ticket that said "Q will look after" . No waiver was signed and no explanation was given that they could not be held responsible for the safety or condition of the dress while in their care. On 8/7/2007 I went to pick up the wedding dress for my wife. I gave them my credit card and they swiped it while I examined the dress. I immediately noticed that the beaded appliqué was severely damaged, with many bead strands loosened and hanging from the dress. I refused to sign the Credit Card receipt and asked for a refund. A refund was not given. Employee Richard Atack proceeded to insult the quality of the dress and refused to release the dress to me without payment, though he acknowledged that the dress appeared to be damaged. Reluctantly, I left the cleaners without the dress. On the morning of 8/8/2007 my wife and I returned to Barry Regent to pick up the wedding dress. Hearing our plea, employee Richard Atack refunded the $35 charge to my credit card and released the wedding dress to us. He offered us the chance to have Barry Regent repair the dress. We refused his offer for three reasons: 1. to our eyes, the damage looked beyond repair (we were correct) 2. we wanted the dress makers (Silver Moon) to evaluate the condition of the dress and advise us on repair 3. we were no longer interested in any service provided by Barry Regent after our dress was damaged and after we were treated poorly by employee Richard Atack. Immediately upon leaving the cleaners on 8/8/2007, we drove to Silver Moon, makers of the wedding dress. Silver Moon examined the dress and concluded that a repair was not possible: the beaded appliqué needed to be replaced. We asked them to expedite the appliqué replacement as our wedding day was 3 days away on Saturday 8/11/2007 (!!!) On the evening of 8/10/2007, we picked up the wedding dress from Silver Moon. In all, three of the beaded appliqués had to be replaced. The appliqués were one-of-a-kind circular beaded patterns that had been removed from a 1920's era dress. Silver Moon explained to us that the beaded appliqués had been damaged during the steaming process (documented in a letter by Silver Moon). Their conclusion was based on evidence that the dress had been steamed up to the stitching around the edges of the appliqué, meaning the beads had been steamed over. In their opinion, the heat from the steam caused the 80+ year old fabric to fray and disintegrate. Silver Moon charged us a discounted price of $100 for the one-of-a-kind material needed to replace the appliqué and for the labor. On 8/17/2007 I returned to Barry Regent with the $100 Silver Moon receipt and damaged appliqués and requested reimbursement. Richard Atack refused to reimburse us, instead he continued to insult the quality of the dress, he began questioning the integrity of Silver Moon, and began insulting me personally. He told me I'd have to return and talk with Q if I wanted to resolve the matter. On 8/21/2007 I met with Q and presented my case. He empathized with us and ultimately issued an apology. He said if it were up to him he would reimburse the $100 to us, but the decision was solely up to Richard Atack. Between 8/22/2007 and 9/6/2007 I made over 10 phone calls to Richard Atack, none of which were returned. When I finally spoke with him on the phone on 9/6/2007, he told me that only the owner John Sasaki would be able to issue a reimbursement. On 9/7/2007 I arrived at Barry Regent and met with John Sasaki. He included Richard Atack in the conversation. After a 30 minute long conversation where I was treated unprofessionally by John Sasaki, he told me that he would not reimburse me for the $100 it cost to repair the dress. When I stated that I would file a complaint with the BBB (which I later did), he took down my information and said he'd "get back with me next week" because in his words, "someone wasn't doing their g*dd*mn job" motioning with his head in the direction of Q, the employee who originally received the dress. After a month of phone calls left unreturned, a check for $100 arrived in the mail. It was no coincidence that this happened at the same time the BBB stepped in to mediate. There are hundreds of other dry cleaners in the city. Go find another one. This place is a dump run by people that don't care about you or your clothes. read more

I am giving Barry Regent two stars not only because they are very expensive ($17-18 for a dress, $25-30 for a coat, etc.) but because of the quality of cleaning. On one of the dresses I brought in, I specifically pointed out where the stains were located, and when I returned to pick up the dress the stains were still there. These were not difficult dirt or food stains either - simply deodorant marks. They offered to clean it again at no charge but when I went to pick up the dress a second time, some of the decoration on the dress was no longer in tact. I have yet to go back in to report this, but hopefully they can somewhat redeem themselves by handling the situation well. Pretty disappointed considering this is supposed to be the best dry-cleaners in Chicago. read more

Barry Regent Cleaners does a great job. I've had them fix pants, starch shirts, and dry clean winter coats. They do a wonderful job each time. Whenever I've gone in to pick up clothes it's been quick and painless. The only reason I won't give them five stars is because they are more expensive than most places. read more

Strange... I swear I had left a review here before, but it seems to have disappeared. The clothes I get back look pretty good. Unfortunately, they lost a pair of Theory shorts I only wore twice, and once they gave away 3 Prada cashmere turtlenecks to someone else. Luckily, they were able to retrieve these one week later. After having numerous items of fine clothing ruined by mediocre cleaners in the past, I made the choice to move up to the premium service of Barry Regent. They understand fine garments and take the time to ensure the cleaning techniques they apply will not ruin clothes (or at least alert you to before taking your garment that it could possibly be a challenge to clean). They hang all garments with paper inserts to keep them full and free from wrinkles. The only reason I am giving 4 and not 5 stars is due to the fact their tailoring takes too long. If you live in the city and want to be sure you protect your fine clothing, this is the cleaners to use. read more

Barry-Regent cleaners was able to clean a vintage dress that I bought to wear to a special occasion. The dress looked like new when I picked it up!!! I was so impressed. The bottom of the dress had some browning, and Barry-Regent was recommended to me by the tailor I was using. They were very professional and upfront that they weren't sure if the browning would come out when I dropped the dress off. They also discouraged me from having a vest I was going to drop off dry cleaned because of the washing instructions, which I thought was nice since they didn't just want the money for that item. I have lived one block away from Barry Regent for 3 years now and have occasionally brought some things to them. It is true that they are overpriced, but I am happy to pay for quality. Unfortunately they do NOT consistently provide quality services. I brought a white AX blazer there to be cleaned because there were some weird light colored stains on it. When I got it back after paying about $15, there were more stains on it than when I brought it in. I later went to another dry cleaners who did an impeccable job on the jacket, leaving it clean and white, for $7. My boyfriend often used them for convenience since he has to wear pressed, cleaned shirts to work everyday. On several occasions, buttons from his custom made shirts were cracked in half. If plastic collar stays were accidentally left in the shirt, they were not removed, but instead steamed and pressed into the shift, causing holes and staining. These people cannot be bothered to simply remove the collar stays before processing them. No mention was made about these defects, payment is accepted and they leave you to take your damaged clothes. I finally took matters into my own hands and began regularly take all of his shirts to Eve Cleaners on Broadway, which is 5 blocks from my apartment and have been completely satisfied with all of their work. read more

What a poor decision we made bringing my wedding dress here. My wedding dress was not that dirty so we thought it should be an eay job. There was mostly dirt on the bottom of the train for dragging and then some small spray tan marks under the arm (gotta love a fake tan!). I was trying to sell the dress so we just needed it cleaned as opposed to preserved. When we initially went in the manager said that he worked with this fabric (silk chiffon, no beading or lace) all the time and that it shouldn't be a problem as we pointed out exactly where the dress was dirty so he knew all spots that needed cleaning. We were quoted $150 for the cleaning which seemed a bit high but relatively in line with what others had quoted us given we knew a wedding dress requires special attention. My dress was a simple sheath and actual came in many colors besides white. I do wonder what the price quote would have been had I brought in a colored version. I am sure b/c it was a white wedding dress, a premium prices was charged. Over a month later we went back and the dress was ready. They originally wanted 2 months, but agreed to a month when we said we needed it for the next wearer. However I have no idea what it took them one month to do. None of the dirt from the bottom had been removed nor had the tan stains. We asked to see the manager. I asked about the cleaning process and he said it was just put through their drycleaning machine. No effort had been made apart from that to clean any other stains. My understanding was that for the higher price, the gown would get extra attention to make sure the dress was clean. He kept saying that they cannot guarantee they can get things clean and that the dress was "clean enough." I understand they can't guarantee, but it was a bait and switch as he gave me confidence the dress would be clean at our initial meeting. He did lower the price to $100 after some argument, but I consider it $100 wasted. I went to another dry cleaner recommended by a friend of mine who works for Saks and they were able to get every single stain out. read more
