I have been avidly against dry cleaning garments until recently. As someone who hates this chore, coming here is an enjoyable experience. The owners are warm and friendly! It does take a few days to a week to get garments cleaned, so I try to budget time appropriately if I will need something back by a certain date. It's ~$10 to get a sport coat done if that offers any idea of what pricing is like. My items come back looking great and handed over with a smile. Been here two times, 2nd time was for my carpet that wreaks of dog urine that they said they could clean. When I got it back it smelled even worse. Called them, they said they cleaned it three times with the exact things I believe you shouldn't use on dog urine. Ammonia and heat for $80. I went and bought other products to take it out only to find there were still pee stains coming out in the paper towels. Should have just done it myself instead of opting for convenience. People are nice, just don't take your carpets to them. read more

Super nice! Thanks to Wicker Park Cleaners for helping us out...yes, that's right...helping us out. You see, we were on a scavenger hunt, and needed something from a Wicker Park business that had "Wicker Park" in the name....which you'd think would be easy. Not so! (Especially when you have to find multiple options). Enter Wicker Park Cleaners...the woman there (owner perhaps?) was a bit skeptical. This could have been since a teammate entered...looking disheveleved...asking for a business card...The woman looked majorly confused (if not concerned). I entered and tried to explain our plight...a scavenger hunt...benefitting a non profit..... And, she came through...she helped us out. So, folks, I'm not sure how the cleanings are, but this spot is really friendly and helpful! The non-profit you helped out cleared $16,000 due to the scavenger hunt that day - thanks a ton!!! read more

My neighborhood cleaner! The lady who runs this shop is super nice, she always remembers my boyfriend and I (like she will let me know if his clothes are ready to take home when I come in) and is very helpful. She also does an EXCELLENT job with stain removal. My BF had a major stain on a white dress shirt that he had already washed and dried many times and she made it look like new. I also use this shop for tailoring, though I've never had anything too complicated done. I've had many hems done here and the final product always ends up exactly where we decided, not too long or too short. I have had one screw-up here, I brought in two pairs of pants and she removed the pockets of both instead of just one pair like I had requested. But she was extremely apologetic and immediately offered me some free dry-cleaning to make up for it. In my mind great service outshines small mistakes. read more

While I haven't yet used the cleaning services, I've got to say that Lisa was very friendly (shook my hand, introduced herself. You just don't get that kind of service anymore). My suit jacket was "very difficult" to alter, but she did it perfectly - even on such short notice! I'm so thankful she's right up the street and will absolutely be back for alterations and probably some cleaning, too. read more

Extremely overpriced. Had issues finding my clothes/name. Felt very ripped off. Was not given an estimate nor told it would be about 4 times as much as typical dry cleaning. The material is delicate so I expected it to be somewhat expensive, but was not given any explanation as to why I was given such as ridiculous price. I would recommend establishing the price before you drop your clothes off so you you do mot get ripped off. read more

I wasn't planning on writing a review but I just walked out with the BEST feeling (who knew a dry cleaner/trailer could do that to a person?) and needed to tell everyone and their mothers to give Wicker Park Cleaners a chance to convince you there good tailors and cleaners still exist!! I'll try to keep details of my experience brief without gushing because it was that positive of an experience from customer service to price to quality of work... I brought in a LOAD of clothes that were either on their last leg or had taken a serious beating and needed help (gorgeous thick hand sewn vintage wool jacket that was dull and had a large dark stain roughly spanning a foot in size, Zara trench coat with a large unknown weird discoloration/stain, men's jeans needing a serious patch from a blown crotch, couple dress pants and suit jackets freshened up from regular wear, and foundation stains on my beloved mustard Rag & Bone blazer). I walked in for a consultation, assuming I'd be told what I had was beyond repair (for example, my boyfriends jeans were so old and thin from wear she could've just told us to buy a new pair but we were hoping to extend the life a little longer) but the woman working (owner perhaps?) was so kind and optimistic and said they would give it their best shot. Second example, the vintage coat she gave great suggestions saying if the stain couldn't be lifted from the coat they could tailor the coat (showing examples of ways they could alter it) to still be wearable BUT of course they would call for an additional conversation if they ran into trouble. So. Here's where it goes from good to potentially DIRE and then full relief. The initial quote for pick up was around a week. No price was quoted because there was a lot of trail&error with some of the pieces (understandable). About week I called to check in on the status and was told that all the items weren't ready (and therefore wasn't able to tell me the total cost of the work either) but we were hoping to get the easier/quicker items picked up (most importantly the dress pants for work) and she agreed to work with me to allow a partial pick up (even though it's against policy, once you enter their shop it's easy to see why they have a lot of inventory to keep track of and keep your items together to prevent loss/damage). Well, I misheard the information provided and didn't want to hassle the woman against the policy so I waited for a phone call to be told the work was finally completed and ready for pick up.... which never came (was explained to when I came in [see below] that they only call with bad news or if something went wrong). Fast forward.... MONTHS (in this instant I was a bad customer and don't want to encourage this behavior so I'm not disclosing the actual time length but it was an embarrassing length of time). After all this time I was running through worst case scenarios and was a chicken to call in for fear the price quote would sky rocket into the unaffordable range, maybe they lost or ruined something... I don't know my mind was running through all of the potential vary what ifs and I shouldn't elaborate because none of these things happened. Finally, I decided just to go in and figure out what was going on. I was bracing for the worst but it all flew out the door when the same woman who took in my first order greeted me with the friendliest smile, asked if I was there for pickup which I said sheepishly "I think so but it's been a while and wanted to talk with you...?" To which was followed up with a "No, no! It's here! I remember you just remind me what your name is..." and within seconds all of the items are on the counter in like new condition looking better than ever. Oh and the best part! I barely paid more than $100 for 9-10 items that needed major attention. I left blown away on cloud 9 (how many can say that about dry cleaning!!) I WISH I had taken before photos because these look brand freaking new. I took some the articles of clothing in for a last minute hail mary expecting to probably part ways with things I already had mentally parted ways with. Long story short I'll never take my business anywhere else. And you shouldn't either. read more

I have moved a lot, and been to a lot of dry cleaners. Even though Wicker Park Cleaners is not the cheapest dry cleaner that I have used, I think their prices are very reasonable relative to the quality of service provided. I have brought in various items for both dry cleaning and tailoring services, and they have been very helpful (and honest) about whether something is worth repairing or could have issues if dry cleaned. I think many other places would probably just take my money and run, so I appreciated their approach. Did I mention they are dog friendly and have treats for your dog?! read more

I really appreciated the way they explained the process to me since I told them I had never been there before. I thought it was a nice touch to let me know what to expect. I don't understand the reviews. This is a NOT a 4 or 5 star place. I've been fairly pleased with Jin's on Division but figured I'd try this place along Damen since it's between home and the train/park and the reviews seemed pretty good. Wrong! - This place is overpriced and in fact, you never see the price. She never shows you the receipt, prices seem to change without reason, and it is just flat out expensive. - As many other reviewers have noted, seems like a lot of alterations are "really complicated" in her world. She argued with me about a simple waist trim on a pair of jeans until I literally had to take it back out of her hands and just take it to my other go-to alteration shop (not a cleaners) - She has the oddest moods and is very standoffish... when we got overcharged by at least $18 on our very first visit she of course argued and huffed and tried to divert blame settling on a smaller "credit" for the future... b/c of course she couldn't just credit the card or give us cash difference - She'll just argue with you about everything from whether an alteration can be done to the fact that "you have to dry clean" this regular dress shirt I've had washed 100x before... There are far better places in the area. The only reason we went there a second time was to use the credit... 2nd order was super expensive ($65 for 7 things... you do the math on average per cost) and I couldn't wait to get out of there and yelp about it! read more

Ruined my suit jacket. Burned a hole in it, cut off the burnt fringe and tried to say the jacket was like that when I brought it in. Did not offer refund, just offered to patch it and then blamed the dry cleaning service they use in glennview for it. Just own up to your mistakes and swallow the cost. I went here last week to have a dress altered. I had read the positive reviews on here, and I was looking for a place closer to my work. From the moment I walked in I was uncomfortable and regretted my decision to come here. The woman behind the counter (Lisa, I'm guessing based on the other reviews) just looked at me, and I had to ask to try the dress on. Once I had the dress on she paid no attention to what I was asking her to do. It seemed as though the dress was going to be complicated to alter and she just didn't want to take the time to do it. She asked me, more than once, if I wanted to "spend a lot on alterations". I responded more than once that it was my best friend's wedding, I am the maid of honor, and I want to look nice on such an important night. I explained to her how the other girls were having theirs altered (all of ours were WAY too big) and she ignored me. I told her where the length was supposed to be and she LIED to me and told me that was where the dress was already falling. I was very upset and wanted nothing more than to get out of there, dress in hand, and go to the woman I had gone to in the past. I told her I would be back the following day with the bride, and she said if I came back she would then charge me for the pinning she had just done. So, in essence, don't come back. I would not recommend this cleaner/seamstress to anyone who expects even a bit of customer service. With cleaners nearly every other store, especially in this neighborhood, you would be much better off trying somewhere else. read more

Can I just talk about how insanely nice these people are? My couch cushions were recently ruined (the horror) and they did an amazing job cleaning them. They even went the extra mile to do a free ammonia wash to remove the scent of hard alcohol/mold (it was a fun combo) and managed to not shrink my cushions. The woman who does alterations is very nice, but my problem with this place is the price. After being told dress alterations run $35 and up, I went in for a fitting and was then told the total would come to around $85. I thought this was ridiculous, considering the last dress I had altered (in a different large city) cost me less than $20. Still I needed the dress right away, so what could I do. Well, I picked it up, and the charge was over $100!! They charged me to steam the darn thing! I couldn't believe it! I have been a bridesmaid way too many times - and usually they don't charge for this service when you are already paying an arm and a leg for alterations. My other issue is that the seams now do not lay flat and they look funny. She had to take the dress in significantly, but she cut a completely different line and now the top looks different. And, for that much money, I would expect the sewing to be perfect and it isn't. I feel like I was totally ripped off. read more

What this soft spoken shop owner brings to the table is pride in her work. Lisa is an experienced seamstress with her finger on the pulse of the perfect fit. She genuinely cares about her customers, and most importantly wants us to look our best. I come from a profession where image is constantly scrutinized, and style is everything. I have never been disappointed by her work, and my standards are very high. These are just some of the services that Lisa has helped me with over the past few years: - Tailored suits that have helped me land the job and the promotion - Altered my maid of honor dress down four sizes. She also added a shelf to the bust, which gave it a flattering fit - Helped me create my all-time favorite Halloween costumes - flawlessly hand pressed a designer dress (with all of its layers) for a black tie function - Dry cleaned a vintage garment from the 60's and brought it back to life - Original hems on designer jeans There is definitely a personal touch here, a down to earth atmosphere. The shop floor is porch sized - on the counter are various photos of customers and their families, an address book, fashion magazines, and off to the side a private fitting room. read more

On the recommendation of others on Yelp.com, I checked this place out. When I walked in, dropped my order and found out the prices, I was still unsure. Upon my return, Lisa was very cordial and had a couple minute conversation with the girl in front of me about her upcoming wedding, so I did not even mind waiting. When I walked up, she had my items ready to go even though it was my first time. As I checked out, she was very friendly and asked me questions about my job, where I lived, etc. If she remembers, I will be super-impressed as for now, I am impressed that she asked at all. They're super helpful and meticulous with dry cleaning, alterations, and shoe repair. You get your money's worth. if you're concerned about pricing, inquire BEFORE you have something done. Sure there are a number of less expensive places in the neighborhood but your clothes come back smelling of chemicals. read more

I joined Yelp for this reason alone. I am in the customer service business myself, and usually don't like giving bad reviews. I could not let this experience pass by. I went to have my bridesmaid dress altered. I wasn't really put off with Lisa at first. I saw lots of good reviews. So I went to pick it up and it was $93. This seemed odd because she only hemmed the dress an inch at the bottom. I payed because this was my first wedding I was in- I didn't know what to expect so I thought it was normal. Went to the wedding. Found out people payed less than half that price and they had more alterations done from other dry cleaners in the area. I was frustrated to say the least but mostly with myself for not asking how much I was paying when I brought the dress in originally. ***This is where it got bad*** I went into the shop to just ask Lisa if next time please let me know or other customers know the price before she does any work. Yes it was my fault for not asking, and I'm sure im the only person who is dumb enough not to ask the price. However, I was really upset with the way Lisa handled it. She kept telling me that she has the best quality work and that that it is worth $93 and that she told me how much it was going to be. I told her I don't doubt her craftsmanship and that all I wanted to do was help customers in the future know what they are getting into! She continued to attack me and after 5 min of her going on, I told her my roommates and I would not be coming back to this store because of the awful service. I couldn't believe how rude she was. I wasn't asking for my money back, I was just trying to improve customer service, apparently that wasn't received well. I would NOT tell anyone to go back. I have to agree with scott h. I don't understand the other reviews on here either. This place is completely overpriced and since prices aren't listed in the store (and she never shows you the receipt) you can easily get screwed, as I did. She charges close to 10 bucks for a dry clean on one shirt and over 15 bucks to hand wash one shirt. I find this type of business underhanded and will not be going back here. Turn-around is slow and for the price and quality of clean (which is exactly the same as a cheaper place) it's not worth it. read more

This place was a nightmare. It ruined three of my shirts--white dress-shirts I brought in slightly tousled, but completely UNSTAINED and in one piece. They came back to me with light brown/gray streaks along the buttons of two of the shirts, and on both cuffs of the third one, and all three of them smelled like cat urine. I made the mistake of paying for this "dry cleaning" before examining the shirts, and when I returned later that day to show her the shirts and ask for compensation, the woman behind the counter claimed that I'd brought them in originally with much darker stains--again, I repeat, there were NO STAINS--and on top of that, she wasn't even the woman that I dropped the shirts off to! Unethical and irresponsible - avoid at all costs. Took an ivory lace blouse in to be cleaned for the first time since purchasing it in London. Came back with a white "bleached out" spot in front, completely ruined. Unfortunately, this is not the first time they've ruined clothing or bedding. I also routinely have clothes come back with spots that need to be redone. Or sometimes they say they've tried multiple times to clean it (a lie) only to find that when I take it elsewhere, the spots miraculously disappear. In this instance, they told me if their cleaning vendor won't pay them they won't pay me. My business is with the owners of the cleaners, not their vendors. Blouse is not replaceable. They/she awent on about being a small business owner who can't afford to pay for ruined clothes. They own multiple cleaners and drive very expensive cars. They can afford to reimburse me the $200 for a blouse ruined under their watch. Now I'll have to sue, which will cost them far more than $200. Unethical and foolish. read more

If I could give a negative star, I would because this place is over-priced and unreasonable. I dropped off a maternity coat I no longer needed to be cleaned and they didn't tell me how much it would be until I tried to pick it up and they wanted $35 for it. While I thought that was too high, I was willing to pay it, to get the coat back, so I could give it to a friend or donate it. I didn't have enough to pay the full amount at that time and planned on coming back to get it. But with a newborn who never slept more than 2 hours until he was 10 months old, I was a walking zombie and totally forgot about it until 6 months later. I received one phone call reminding me to pick it up but they failed to alert me to their policy, which is to add a 15% surcharge every month it is not picked up. When I finally got around to picking it up they wanted $80 for the coat. I tried to reason with them and ask them to bring the fine down but they wouldn't budge. They said that I could either pay or the coat was going to Salvation Army. Considering that was where I was going to take it anyway, I let them have it. I will never be back to this place. Greener Cleaner is cheaper, nicer, and does pick ups/drop offs at your door for no charge. read more
