Avoid at all costs. The therapist could not remember my daughter's name, and despite me correcting her multiple times she continued to call her the wrong name. She seemed more concerned with getting paid by insurance than with discussing the mental health of my children. The owner and therapist for the business was very opinionated and didn't offer any professional assistance that could be substantiated by the psychology or sociology industries. She had the false opinion that ALL children need therapy. It's a business focused on acquiring revenue. read more

I came here to attend the Maryland Play Therapy Bootcamp and I was educated and gathered some great tools to put in my tool bag. If you are a clinician or caregiver this is a great place to learn and seek support services in parenting. Sonia Hinds also provides play therapy, family and individual therapy to her clients. My child was giving me a hard time with everything. He became violent and so disrespectful that I started to wonder if as and adult I would go and visit him in jail. I was heart broken. I disciplined at home, took away items when needed and it was an endless cycle. As a parent I felt like I was starting to loose the battle. I am so glad I made the call because in the long run, with time, I started to see changes. No one is perfect but I wanted to give my child the right tools to deal with situations and not use violence as the go to. Very poorly organized and managed. For our first time appointment we were greeted by a very confused therapist who didn't realize we were supposed to be there, even though she set our appointment herself. She disappeared for several minutes and returned realizing that she had overlooked the fact that we were on her schedule. At the end of our first appointment she indicated that appointments going forward would be weekly and scheduled us for the following Sunday at 3:00 pm. We returned the following Sunday, on time and were taken back. Just as she was begining, the chime for the front door sounded and she walked into the waiting area where another patient stood with their caregiver. Again, she looked very confused and disappeared to get her scheduling book. When she returned she tried to tell me that we were scheduled for the following Sunday, which would have made no sense being a weekly client. She decided instead to take the other client who came in after 3:00 pm and suggested that perhaps we could kill time and come back in an hour. I let her know that her scheduling practices leave a lot to be desired. Not once, but twice, two weeks in a row she had no idea what was going on and she handles her own schedule, so she can't blame anyone else for the confusion. This office is not right around the corner from us either. Twenty-five minutes one way only for her to be confused each time we showed up. Unless you enjoy wasted time and gas along with copious amount of confusion and aggravation, avoid this place at all costs. read more

I was referred to Sonia Hinds and glad I made the call. I was being seen for anxiety/depression and was in pretty bad shape at my first appointment. Positives: - Although she has a very busy schedule, she did what she could to accommodate my appointments outside of her normal hours (to include weekends) - She listened and provided unbiased feedback during therapy sessions. This was important for me since my family members, of course, are biased when discussing issues in my thoughts with them. - She used various tools to help guide my thoughts away from the negative, but at the same time, she would point-out that some of those negative thoughts are valid concerns but made me realized there was no need to constantly worry about them. - Even though she has many clients, she would always remember details of my situation. For example: I had a two-week gap in appointments at one time and she would remember to ask me about the outcome of a situation we discussed in the past (with no notes in front of her)...what surprised me the most is that she remembered details such as names, locations, etc...This showed me that she really listened and cares. Negative: - As one reviewer pointed-out about scheduling problems...during a weekend appointment, she did seem surprised to see me, but we still had a productive session. I was very satisfied with our therapy sessions. After 7 sessions with Sonia, along with some reading she recommended, I felt much better and recovered enough to where I felt I no longer needed therapy sessions. read more
