On my first time riding the Chicago equivalent of BART, I unknowingly sat in a big ole camouflaged pile of pee on the partially rubbed away fabric seat for an hour trip into the city. I'd had an inkling of suspicion and then confirmation that it was pee when I went to readjust in my sitting position and it gushed a little in feeling and sound, but I decided to commit to it still for two reasons: 1) I was already sitting and it required minimal effort of my part to continue to do that. 2) All the other seats were taken (made total sense why the one I was sitting in was empty now) and I'd ultimately rather lay in poop or sit in pee than stand for even just an hour... at least when it's too late to undo the initial gush of pee from the seat that had already soaked into my jeans. My first BART experience compared to my first 'L' experience, was world's better. I'd basically only heard BART horror stories up until my first ever ride into SF from the Millbrae station, but to my luck (and secretly dismay), I didn't see a single unsavory thing. No one pooped on the seat, the guy next to me wasn't rubbing medicinal cream on his wang, and there wasn't even the faintest hint of a pee smell here. Man, the suburbs really are a magical place, I thought. Parking at this station is either easy peasy or an absolute nightmare, as I recently found out. I think the key is to get here at like 9:30 and wait it out circling the 'open at 10am' spots in the garage until it hits 10am exactly. It sucks because at that point where you've already driven to BART and then circled for 30-minutes, you probably could have just driven into the city and be there before your BART would have left the station, but you'd also probably be paying $50 buck instead of $2 to park in that scenario, so it's a trade off of how much your time is worth and how much is in your bank account. The station itself is pretty damn clean and the first BART I ever rode on was the neateo 70s kind with that carpeting, which was actually really clean. Very reminiscent of the Disney World monorail. I know the fnew-to-BART will wear off and likely go down in a blaze of glory, but I'd like to leave this review right here to remember my pretty A-OK first experience on this legendary mode of transportation. read more

This is a nice station serving both as the end of the line for BART and as a stop for Caltrain. Depending on where you are coming from or going to in SF this can save you time. On the way back I just walked to the BART16th street station and I was away! The return trip was much faster then the away trip. I am sure it is usually faster but with Caltrain doing work it allowed me to skip the bus bridge. read more

This review is for Millbrae BART's Airport/Long-Term (APLT) parking which I was satisfied with. I actually never long term park my car since I can get dropped off at the airport or easily take BART. Having to park for a full week, I realized how quickly the costs could add up. At SFO, it's $18/day and the nearby long-term lots range from $12 (w/ coupons) to $20/day with mixed reviews. Navigating those lots and shuttles and worrying a lot may be full on a Friday night seemed like too much stress before getting on a flight so I decided to stick to what I know. Using BART's select-a-spot website, I just chose the dates I needed to park, paid online, and got an email with a printout to display on the dash. The price is $6/day. If your dates include a weekend you are charged for the weekend dates even though overnight parking is normally free on the weekends... I parked 8 days and thought I'd only get charged for 6 days since I thought Sat and Sun would be free but I was charged $48 total. The other lots on the peninsula (SSF, Colma, SB) are also $6/day. But the ride from Millbrae to SFO is $4.05/way vs $7/way. There are warnings that you must take BART round-trip to use the parking, but I can't see how they'd know if you didn't end up using BART at all. If you're riding from SFO during the weekday, you do have to ride up to San Bruno then transfer back south to Millbrae but the connections are timed well and the trip is 12 minutes total. After 8pm and on weekends, you don't have to worry about the pesky transfer. With your printout, you can park at any of the permit/reserved parking spots on the 3rd and 4th floors. I didn't study the station map well so I drove around in circles panicking for a while since I couldn't immediately find the reserved spots. If you park on the 4th floor, you won't have to take any stairs/elevator to the BART platform. The parking lot is huge so you shouldn't have a problem finding a spot. I didn't see anyone patrolling the lot to help me find the parking, but it was very well lit and I felt safe at night. Overall, it was a seamless and cost-efficient/cheap option. read more

This is a great place for long term parking. The instruction on the permit stated that, "A limited number of Airport/Long Term spaces are available in the Monthly Reserved parking area." Basically, it means that get in before 10am, and you can park in any space available at the Monthly Reserved Parking area. There's NO sign indicating it's for Airport/Long Term. Just park in one of the Montyly Reserved Parking space. Of course, make sure you display the permit on the dashboard. If you park over the weekend, say, from Fri-Mon, the system automatically charges you for 4 days including sat. & sun. If you are heading to SFO via Bart on M-F before 7pm., you need to transfer in San Bruno. After 7pm, Bart goes directly to SFO without needing to transfer and for Sat. & Sun, all day. Other than the lack of signage and a slight hazzle to hual your luggage (if you have a lot,) this place is clean, cheap, with plenty of covered parking that is excellent as an alternative to parking at SFO. A side note on getting a bart ticket, if you use your credit card, it automatically rings up $20.00 credit. Since going to SFO from Millbrae (one way) cost $4.00, you need to press the "subtract $1.00" button (press 16 times) until it has $4.00 credit remains, then you press the print ticket button. Otherwise, you will end up having a $20.00 bart ticket. read more

Be VERY careful driving up to this station - they have red light cameras everywhere! Got a citation notice in the mail about a week ago for turning right on red. I stopped before turning, but apparently not for 3 seconds. So lame! $500 later, I'm a tad peeved! read more

The problem with this station is the structure. To get to BART, you have to take a long flight of stairs or the escalator up. Then you buy your ticket and then you take a very long set of stairs down to the train. It makes no sense. You go up to get to the entrance of the BART gates and then you go down to the trains. Not only that but the going down part is stairs ONLY. That is for both when you're inside the BART gates and outside. There is only one escalator and it only goes up. So if you have luggage be prepared to carry it down a long flight of stairs. Yeah....not fun. read more

Perhaps the cleanest, least sketchy BART station I've ever been to (except maybe SFO). This is honestly my favorite way of getting downtown, or to the airport for that matter. Cheap too, and much better than dealing with parking in either of those places. I suppose it was annoying having to remember my parking space number every time, until I got a monthly parking pass. But then again, I've never ever seen someone get a parking ticket here. That includes me, the several times I forgot my number and just got on the train anyway. Parking garage layout is kind of stupid, but whatever. I vacillated between three stars and four, but went with four because, every once in a while, if you're very lucky, the whole place smells like chocolate. 3 stars is the highest you'll ever see me rate anything that's even remotely associated with BART. Just thinking about BART makes me feel like i need Purell and penicillin. Yuck. As far as BART stations go, however, this one seems to be relatively clean and modern. I think that might have something to do with the fact that the majority of it is outdoors. It's set up really stupid. You have to go upstairs to buy your ticket (for those of us who haven't gotten around to snagging a Clipper card yet), then back downstairs again to get to your train. Uhhh...ok. If you have luggage like one reviewer was complaining, the lack of a down escalator shouldn't be an issue for you because there IS an elevator available. Parking is free on nights and weekends, so that's good. And the neighborhood is low on the Sketch-o-Meter compared with most other BART stations. CalTrain also uses this station too; if I were to choose between the two, I'd definitely go with CalTrain because it smells less of puke and wee. read more

Perhaps it's the result of mixing BART with Caltrain. To this day, I don't really know how to get to the front entrance from the Bart train. You would think it's as easy as, you know, following the signs, but honestly, I think it takes a little bit more than that. Maybe I'll get lucky again and find the front entrance two times in a row. This really tells you how horrible and disjointed our public transit system is in the Bay Area. I typically takes the CalTrain to Millibrae, and then transit to BART to fly out of SFO. But on the return trip, what usually happens is as followed: (1) I get onto the BART at SFO (2) The train arrives at Millbrae. I need to then catch the Caltrain on the other side. (3) The Caltrain always arrives 2 minutes afterward, leaving me absolutely no time to take my heavy luggage up and down the stairs and buy the Caltrain ticket. I usually end up missing the train and having to wait an hour or two houirs for the next Caltrain. These two publlic transits are just so dysfunctional that they could not even talk to each other to make life easier for transit users. read more

Love this station as it is side by side with Caltrain. Located right next to HWY 101. It is so convenient and the parking fee is very reasonable and hope it doesn't go up anytime soon. Very spacious parking including a garage and open lot. Very useful for me when I don't want to drive to the city or east bay. Unlike most stations where it is loitered with stench and homeless people or sketchy folks lingering around makes it uneasy to use this transportation. However I feel very safe when using this station. Five stars for plenty of parking, convenience, well lit and stationed side by side with Caltrain. read more

Don't leave your bike locked here unless you have one of those boxes. I have had both wheels stolen, front and back reflectors, every light on the bike, the seat, seat post, and seat clamp (the freaking seat clamp) stolen in the last 2 months. Essentially, if it's not locked down, it will get stolen. Even if it is locked down, I see other peoples tires slashed. So they just are there to vandalize whatever they can. I guess shame on me for not learning my lesson the first time. You win assholes of Millbrae, you win. I will stop riding my bike to work. I will take up a parking spot in the lot now. I will pay $50 a month to park just to go to work. I hope you are happy. I once had a nice bike that has been decimated to the piece of shit it is now. You win. read more

I do not appreciate the service here AT ALL. This is a horrible representation of the people at the Bay Area. Government job or not, this is absolutely not how customer service representatives should act at a widely used public transportation system. I first tried to ask one of the ladies in the customer service booth how to pay for parking if I didn't want to use cash. She asked me to first buy a Bart ticket, but I already had one with lots of money on it. I tried to explain that to her but she assumed that I was stupid and didn't have enough money on my card. While I attempted to explain my situation to her, the lady kept interrupting me, condescendingly asking me where I was going. I hadn't planned exactly where in downtown I wanted to get off, so I couldn't give her a straight answer. After all that, she basically didn't give me a straight answer, so my friends and I just shelled out enough coins to pay for the $2 parking. The lady was outright rude and I felt offended by the attitude she gave me. Later while I was trying to help a group of Asian tourists how to pay for their parking, I tried to ask the other attendant some clarifying questions. She didn't even bother moving a muscle to help us, leaning on her chair while pointing and giving me unclear directions. She was outright lazy and her instructions were pretty much useless. We were able to figure out how to use the machine without her help. My experience here was infuriating. For the sake of our lovely Bay Area, I do hope that the BART knows that their customer service needs to be improved. I can't believe my taxpayer dollars are going to workers who aren't motivated nor willing to, in my opinion, do their jobs properly! read more

I was interested in their airport parking and it is slightly complicated but if you call them they will explain it to you on the phone. this is NOT clear on their website. airport parking has to be purchased online in advance. you CAN'T purchase it at the bart station. so that's annoying. if you dont have a printer, you can write down your confirmation number though. you also don't need to pay for the weekend, so if you're going for a week, leave out the weekend- that's an extra $12 bucks saved. beware, they start ticketing at 2am on monday, so don't try to skip paying even if you're picking your car up early in the morning. much cheaper than any parking near SFO, even free if it's a fri-sun trip. it is annoying that one stop is $4 but it goes every 20 minutes and only takes 5 minutes. read more

Why oh why can't we Angelenos get our act together and create something like the CalTrain/BART system? Easy, cheap, fast, relaxing, clean, environmentally friendly (more so than your car anyway). I took a flight from Burbank airport to San Fran a couple days ago, but I had to eventually get to Aptos, south of Santa Cruz. The Monterey flights were all full, so to San Fran I went. My dad works for United at SFO, so he picked me up and dropped me off (five minutes away) at the Milbrae Station which, might I add, was virtually deserted but clean, safe, and beautiful. Even the strange-looking man with a beard as long as his waist who kept hopping back and forth over the fence between platforms, waving a five-dollar bill at the platform attendant before hopping back to the other side was pleasantly non-threatening. Rather entertaining actually. I made it out to San Jose in about an hour and my ride met me there for my journey across the 17 and out to the 1. Can you imagine hopping on a similar train in...say...San Pedro, and riding out to Thousand Oaks for 5 bucks? Getting off anywhere you'd like along the way, skipping the traffic, checkin' out the scenes from your second level seat? I know, it will never happen. Not in my lifetime anyway. With the ceaseless comings and goings of the commuting masses, it's a surprise that BART keeps its facilities as clean as it does. That being said, the bathroom at this station is awful. And that's coming from someone who spent years of his twenties deployed to a war zone. Also may I suggest switching up the material on the actual train seats. There has got to be a better solution than the woven blue fiber that looks like 10,000 roadies have ground their sweaty pony tails in to the head rest. Also some of the cars smell like pee. For someone from the South Bay who hates driving in SF, I have tried the Millbrae BART thing and it works. Parking is only $1 for all day (FREE on weekends). Drive up to this station, park, and take the BART up to SF. So easy. I feel pretty safe leaving my car here, but there are definitely some incidents about stolen vehicles that make me cautious. I concur with other Yelpers that this station gets SUPER windy. At night it can be pretty cold. I only wish BART was extended South more... read more

The station itself is better than I expected. Based on my NYC Transit experience, any restrooms that is private, doesn't require rain boots and has tp is a big perk. the end of the station for bart. and the transfer spot for caltrain. this station is pretty nice. parking lot pretty big and lots of spaces. well I'm a weekend traveler so I'm sure its pretty crazy on week days. and free on weekends! bart is normally on schedule which is nice. quick trip to sf. (and $8.60 later). but hey it beats trying to find parking in sf. right across the street are in n out, panera bread, and l&L hawaiian bbq. the signal light right before the bart station is the worse! cameras are so sensitive! flash flash flash flash. i never wanna drive when its not green there. they don't try to hide the cameras either, they make it super apparent. big fat cameras staring at you waiting for you to go through a yellow light. always keep your foot on the brake! read more

Before, it was Palo Alto to Millbrae (TO) Millbrae Shuttle Bus drops you off at terminal of your airline. CA doesn't encourage public transport even to an airport. Avoid this Menlo Park to SF Airport alternative. Duck the option of using Caltrain from downtown Palo Alto to SFO. Select something else when going from San Jose to San Francisco airport via Caltrain. read more

I can't speak for parking here because whenever I take Millbrae Bart, I get to it by transferring via Caltrain. Overall, the station is kept clean and I have no major complaints. I will say though that, at times, I wish that they had someone constantly in those small offices next to the ticket area. The reason being that I have seen people time and time again who try to evade paying for a ticket by going through the emergency exit. What I like though is when they do get caught, the Bart employee will literally call them out over the loudspeakers. Haha here's an example: "THE LADY IN THE BLUE JEANS WITH THE WHITE TOP, WALK BACK THROUGH THE EMERGENCY EXIT AND PROCESS YOUR TICKET." You might argue that this is mean, but hey why can't you just do the right thing and put your ticket through like most people do? I do have to subtract one star because I'm not so sure if they check the ticket processing machines all the time. One day I put my ticket through one of them and when I was expecting it to come back through the other end, it didn't. Machine completely ate my ticket, and so my remaining balance for it was gone! Fun fact: word on the street is that back in the day when BART was first being established, some people objected to it being called Bay Area Rapid Transit because they felt that not enough emphasis was being put on how fast the trains really do get you from point A to point B. Five stars for BART connecting with Caltrain! Minus one star for there being absolutely no synching of the train schedules. Minus another star for essentially having to sit outside in the WIND AND COLD for up to an hour if you're waiting for Caltrain. I can't believe you have to do that. Plus with the untimed transfers and having to wait in line at the ticket machines, even if they are close you could miss. I fail to understand this system. But maybe it will get better? read more

I would strongly caution you to NOT park at long-term parking at any BART station. My car was recently stolen from their garage in Millbrae while I was out-of-town via SFO. Thinking I would save a couple of bucks, I used long-term parking at BART. Returning to the station 7 days after my departure, I found no car, thinking (hoping) I was jet lagged and absent-minded, I asked the station agent, who informed me after a couple of minutes on the phone with BART Police, with a grin that he could not hide, that my vehicle was reported stolen by BART 5 days after I had parked it at Millbrae! Takeaway Points: 1.) Don't use long-term parking at BART. If you do, instead of posting your proof of payment on your car, instead post a sign that says, "My car will be parked here for several days and nobody's really looking. Would you like to steal it?" 2.) Pay a few bucks extra per day and park your car in a long-term lot for SFO that has intimidating-looking barbed-wire fences and an attendant whom a would-be thief would have to encounter. 3.) This Bart station is fairly well marked for a US public transportation facility. eg, this means it would rate way, way behind most European and Asian train stations which accept credit cards, are generally well lit, color coded with signage everywhere. There's good parking, but why charge for parking and the train? Bring an expert with you if you are a novice, else this is going to be challenging. Pretty amazing that mass-transportation in the West is so far behind. read more

FREE PARKING! that's a plus plus plus plus which gave it 4 star rating. The place is also a meetup place for lots of people. For some reason i've ran into many car photoshots and even meetups @ this bart station. this station is also the cleanest bart station that i've ever been to. No homeless and no garbage on the floor. - 1 star for the horrible partnership of Samtran. Always late and if you miss one of them, you'll be late for 1 hr. I had to come to this station really early(4am) in the morning.Since it was early in the morning it was not that busy and I must say that when I arrived I was amazed at how nice and clean this station was.It is rather large. So this being my first time here I was a little confused,but found myself on the right track to head back into the city.I must say that this the cleanest Bart station I have been to.This is no Civic Center or Powell Street people(ugh). Decent parking I did feel like it was a longer ride,but that is just because I am not used to leaving from location. Very nice. I would say if you work in the city and live in this area try to park/bus here and take Bart into the city.Take advantage of this nice station. read more

Takes you closer than Caltrain to where you want to get to SF and the Millbrae station has tons of parking - well worth the drive for a South Bay person. Seeing as I pay as much for a BART ticket as I do for parking anywhere in the city and I don't have to deal with traffic, plus I get to do some reading, writing or sketching on the 20 minute ride into the city, it works for me. If you're looking for the men's restroom, make sure to take the escalators at the farther end of the station (you should pass a statue of a woman as you board the escalator) since the other escalator to the top I think takes you to the women's room. The restroom is a little disgusting, but having it is nice break between a 20 minute train ride out of SF and a 50+ minute drive back down to the South Bay when needed. Four stairs mainly because I think it should take less time and cost less than it does to go from here to downtown San Francisco, but it beats Caltrain and my waits have never been that bad. read more

Arguably BART itself is deteriorating to the low point their stains have held for decades, but this station is convenient to the airport, connecting Caltrain to the system (and to SFO), as well as, serving as a transportation hub for SAMTrans and the local airport hotel shuttles! Perhaps, most important, even a decrepit BART -- fast becoming the "NYC Subway of the West" -- takes cars and tourists off Bay Area roads and freeways! read more

Due to unfortunate circumstances following a traffic collision; I've resorted to other forms of transportation. As Lyft puts a dent in the wallet when taken twice a day at five times a week from Millbrae to SF downtown, I had two choices: 1. Get back behind the wheel of my own car and start driving again. 2. Brave the world of public transportation. It's not like I haven't taken Bart before, I can probably count the number of times on both hands. However, I've always had a guide showing me the way. Beginning this year, I've grown pretty comfortable getting around on my own. It's a public trans milestone I've hit in my life. I'm SO pro. One star for me, please! The Millbrae station is a starting point and a final destination. It has the least amount of riders at the start, and the train begins to empty out the further south you go towards this way. This station versus the others, to me, are worlds away from each other. This one is the cleanest, but as you go northbound towards SF, it starts to get stinkier, and filthier, and you tend to run into more interesting individuals. The most memorable by far is this one man who brought his skeleton friend along in a suitcase- takes his friend out and gives him a seat of his own. Later they both take a position on the floor, and the man rocks his friend on his lap and whispers sweet endearments to herm (not sure what gender of it was). No judgment here, it was both a creepy and a sad moment to witness. The man never bothered anybody, but seemingly frightened other riders around him, as they took off to find another seat. Others were intrigued as they pulled out their phones to film him. It's been a public trans adventure! But as the accident has left me traumatized, for the time being, I am taking baby steps to start driving again. However, when heading into SF, I find it more convenient to ride Bart as traffic's a b****,parking's a b****, paying for parking is a b****, and dealing with dumb drivers on the road is a B****. read more

The parking is ample but if there is something BIG going on in the City (San Francisco) you might have to park outside instead of the nice parking structure. $1 for parking. The new car smell has dissipated and now it's just another BART station. It's still BART though. You know, the train service that talks of purchasing new seats ONLY after a report is released telling us the truth about high levels of fecal matter found living on and in the seats. I prefer to travel by Caltrain, but they only drop by every hour so my friends forced me to ride BART and boy was I thrilled. Into SF and back was more than enough torture for this guy. This BART station reminds me of some huge Soviet government works project that was abandoned amidst a local uprising and then resurrected once a decimation had taken place. It's a big, austere, concrete hulk. The wind whips through this place like you wouldn't believe. You will need a jacket more often than not. Luckily, if you're coming FROM CalTrain your wait is typically not that long, if you're connecting TO CalTrain have fun waiting on that windy, exposed platform. It's awful. The bathrooms upstairs are typically clean, although a little difficult to locate sometimes in the crowd rush. read more
