When I first walked in, staff was very friendly and attentive. I was taken in right away and did the preliminary tests. When that was finished I only waited a few minutes for Dr. Jass to come in the room. He introduced himself and did some more testing and then explained the results of all the tests. He was very kind and patient and answered all my questions and concerns. He then introduced me to TJ, who would be fitting my glasses and going thru the bill with me. He was also very kind and sweet. Great place and very on time eye doctor, very professional and knowledgeable. I do highly suggest getting rid of the plug in glades.. people with allergies they are very hard to smell and cause major headaches. Beware!! They are VSP Premier Program partner so one can expect to follow best practices. Their lense prices are high but I liked the frame. They (TJ) refused to sell me the frame on my insurance benefit if I do not buy glasses with it. But He was ready to sell me the frame if I do not use my insurance benefit (They are premier partner of VSP) so pay them out of pocket. Also he behaved like car dealer to provide only final value to make it sound like he is giving a best deal. I had to ask him a couple of times before he gives me some information about the breakdown of the cost of frame and glasses. Just ridiculous. Wastage of time and a frustrating experience. I am not sure what they are doing is legal. Sounded like insurance scam. read more

After years of not receiving proper treatment for my eyes I jumped around each year trying to find visual relief! Having been diagnosed with an astigmatism and then keratoconus my choices were more slim then not. I have been a Bartlett Resident since 1987, and have been visiting this facility, under 4 different optometrists. Dr Hughes has now retired, and Dr Jass is currently seeing patients here. I am currently happy with the care and prescription( his prescriptions as well as Dr Hughes's have worked well for me) that Dr Jass provided (he updated/replaced all of the measurement equipment, or "phoropter" units to modern, computer interfaced units) and has examined and is monitoring my PVD issue for me. I do get my lenses and frames elsewhere, because I have found that the lab they have been using lately (for the past 10+ years) cannot make good lenses for me, but other than that I plan to return to this center for further eye care. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Hughes for as long as I can remember. I never had an issue with him while in his care. However - I recently found a new eye doctor closer to my new home in Skokie. Turns out, I have been wearing the wrong prescription contacts for about 10 years! (mind you, I went every year for my annual checkup). Dr. Hughes has been prescribing me too strong of a prescription. My prescription at Dr. Hughes: +7.50. My prescription at my new eyedoctor: +6.25 and I can see so much better and more clear. Really disappointed in this finding and the fact that I have gone for so long without seeing this clearly. read more

My husband and I are both patients of Dr. Hughes and we have received excellent care from Dr. Hughes and his staff. He is very thorough and knowledgeable. We both have challenging vision issues and Dr. Hughes addressed them and prescribed perfect glasses for us. Me and my family came for our yearly eye exams last year and we all apparently needed glasses. My husband only needed contacts and they were pushing us to get him glasses. I was told the diabetic exam wasn't covered under our insurance but it was. This year we all went to a new eye doctor and was told my sons and I didn't need glasses. This place is a rip off and they saw our family coming a mile away to make an extra buck. I don't recommend them unless you want to shell out a lot of money for unnecessary glasses that you won't need. read more

My son needed an eye exam because he failed the test at school. I felt Dr Hughes and his staff were so nice and friendly that I scheduled an exam myself. I feel Dr Hughes did a thorough exam and prescribed just what I needed for reading and computer work. My sons glasses were covered by his insurance but my plan was just a discount plan. The worker was able to offer me a special on certain glasses and there were lots to choose from. I had no trouble getting our prescriptions as well. (Looking into a second pair for my son) Highly recommend this office especially if you have Davis Vision (Illinois All Kids) or EyeMed. It took me 6 calls to find a place to take the Illinois All Kids plan. read more

I was referred to Dr Hughes from a neighbor when I first moved to Bartlett. Wearing contact lenses has sometimes been difficult for me. He takes the time to explain his choices in lenses for my particular situation which I appreciate a lot. Right now I am loving the lenses he has prescribed. My eyes have never felt better. My husband sees him as well, and has always had a good experience. Last year my son had a case of pink eye and the office staff fit him into the schedule so he could be seen right away. I will bring him in later this year for his school exam. The office staff are pleasant and helpful as well. I would not hesitate to give a recommendation to Bartlett Eyecare or to Dr Hughes if anyone is in need of an optometrist. Dr Hughes is a great! read more

I'm not sure why the two previous reviews were so bad. I visited Dr. Hughes' office for the first time and received excellent care -- much better than my former optometrist. The staff was congenial and helpful, during testing, and the selection of new eyeglasses. Dr. Hughes was knowledgable and informative, and he has a wry sense of humor which helped me feel at ease. The wait time was nil. My only suggestion to other patients: don't go there if you're in a rush -- good eye care takes time. read more

If you need gas permeable contact lens don't go here. Dr. Hughes does not know how to fit them properly. The staff/receptionists are hit and miss....sometimes good...sometimes rude. I do not recommend. read more

Do NOT recommend! The staff is very slow and follow up is terrible. After being a customer for 5 years we recently moved away and needed contact prescriptions for both of my daughters. We called 3 times to request and finally a call from Costco and they sent the prescription. This happened twice, once with each daughter. Not consistent with staff knowledge and most of the time they don't seem to know what's going on. Probably under paid help is all I can think. read more

Great eyecare - I have never waited more than 10 -15 minutes. I have not found them to be pushy. In fact I have had the same glasses for over 5 years. I go yearly and if they wanted my money they would have me buying new frames every year. I find this to be HONEST. read more
