We were seen here by Dr. Steven Brooks. My 9-year-old son had a pretty bad sore throat and a fever. He has sensory issues and with all of the above mentioned had hard time letting the doctor examine his throat, that really annoyed the doctor. To be honest, I was shocked and didn't even say anything on the spot! This was the most impatient doctor I've ever come across here in States. Then the nurses came in to do the throat swab, and I warned them to please be patient with him. Those nurses were extremely impatient as well. I mean yes, he's not a baby and was a bit hard to deal with, but give him a break. He's a sick child with fever and in pain and with anxiety that I warned them about. You don't go into medical field if you are not able to deal with people with patience and compassion! 2, not 1 star, are for front desk people and for general cleanliness of the office. read more

Had a great experience here! Sunday morning on our Tahoe vacation our 4yo woke up with a severe earache. Reception ladies were mostly rude and unfriendly but the nurse and Dr. Rork were wonderful and had great bedside manner with my little one. I took a nice fall while snowboarding and Barton was great! Every staff member I interacted with was so kind and personable. They took the time to talk with me and listened to my symptoms. The provider was thorough but quick. Obviously as an urgent care there are limits to their imaging but they can let ya know if something is broken or not and fix you up with what you need to get to a specialist for further diagnosis. I recommend Barton to all my fellow snowboarders and skiers who take a tumble and need to get checked out. read more

Came here when my husband unfortunately got sick during our winter family trip. We decided to Coke here because it was the closest urgent care by Heavenly. We were not disappointed!! It's by walk-in appointments only and luckily they weren't busy when we got there. My husband just needed to fill out some paperwork and the staff took him in the back to get checked out. The staff were super nice and helpful and courteous. They were able to get an X-ray, diagnose, explain to my husband and I what was going on, prescribe my husband medications, and discharge us within an hour and a half. Overall, unfortunate that we needed to visit this place during our vacation but greatly appreciate all the staff!! read more

I injured my foot during my vacation in the Lake Tahoe area. (7/13/15) Painful, swollen, bruised. My friends (nurses & nurse practitioners) strongly suggested I see a physician to determine if I had soft tissue injury or a break. Another friend in healthcare strongly recommended Barton. I am so glad I drove from Incline Village to S. Lake Tahoe to be seen in Urgent Care. The receptionist was friendly. The wait not long. But best of all was the competence, care, & relaxed & friendly demeanor of the physician. He obviously enjoyed his work. He took the X-rays himself and was encouraging in his opinion that ice, elevation & common sense was the best treatment. I hope no one has to utilize Barton Urgent Care, but if you do, you'll be in God hands. read more

Here on vacation for a month and was dealing with some severe foot pain. I scoured yelp for the best Urgent Care around and drove here from Incline Village and I'm glad I did! The nurse who took my vitals and initial info was super nice and funny. The doctor, Dr Eric Ewald, could not have been any nicer!! Super sweet, gentle, and truly made me feel like he was listening. The X-ray tech was great - friendly and easy going. And the nurse who helped get me set up in a boot and crutches, was beyond sweet. I started crying at one point (sad for being hurt and unable to race in an upcoming half marathon and half ironman) and she comforted me and was so kind. If I had anything bad to say about the office, it would be a concern with front desk. After I filled out paperwork, the clerk, called my insurance to get clearance and she did so while sitting at her spot at the front desk. Everyone in the lobby could hear my name, date of birth, medical record number, and chief complaint. I'm an easy going person so I just laughed but had some poor person come in and she's saying "chief complaint is swollen testicles", that would have been beyond embarrassing!!! And I question the HIPAA laws with this. There was two gals up front so I think she could have gone in an office or even behind a partition wall to make the call. But overall - I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

The assistants at Barton Urgent Care were fantastic. Tabitha at the front desk was so kind and helpful. She called Kaiser and let them know I had visited. I didn't have to pay anything. Kaiser will bill me later if necessary. Harley, the medical assistant, was so efficient and pleasant. My problem wasn't super serious: I had fallen on a hike and banged up my left calf. I just wanted to check there was no infection. They didn't make me feel stupid or that I was in any way wasting their time. I left with supplies of bacitracin and non adhesive pads for dressing. I was first in line when they opened so the whole visit took under an hour. The doctor was efficient and very clear. All in all I was really impressed. Bravo Barton! read more

We came up to Tahoe for a few days on vacation. My son ended up getting the flu and we landed in the Urgent Care. The facility was very clean and the staff was very friendly and professional. The doctor explained everything to me in a way that was easy to understand, called the pharmacy to make sure they had the medication before she submitted the prescription, and even stayed after hours to ensure my son's fever went down before we were released. If that wasn't enough, Dr. Janet Goodall even called me the next morning to check on my son. Thank you for taking such amazing care of my family! read more

It's really tragic how this place treats its patients. My first visit took over two hours for what I thought would be a routine physical exam. The APN insisted for lab work, which was not needed. I'm super healthy! They called and insisted I go in for lab work but FAILED to mention this was not ordered under a wellness lab. I received a bill for over $800 for what I thought would be a routine physical. I spent over an hour listening to a receptionist tell her life story in the lobby while no one talked to me about what the lab work meant. I will NEVER go here again. read more

I went to Stateline Urgent Care where I was seen for a shoulder injury and the Dr. on duty (Dr. Michaelson) prescribed me percocet and ordered MRI's. Shortly thereafter I developed severe stomach pains and returned to Urgent Care. The same Dr. did blood tests (negative for anything serious) and ruled out the basics of anything else serious. He asked if I had isolated pain, No. He asked if I had a fever or had been vomiting, No. In other words, he ruled out anything serious from the start. I explained I felt "bloated and had not had a bowel movement for a few days". Later to find out, these were all tell tale signs of constipation - the #1 symptom of the percocet he had just prescribed me prior to this visit. I explained that I didn't have insurance and was looking for the most simple / cost effective remedy. He said, and I quote "you have two options, you can go to ER and get a catscan or you can get a catscan out patient but that may take a few days". I reiterated my concern not having insurance, knowing that a cat scan would be very costly and asked if there were any other options. He sat back in his chair, and in a condescending voice said "Let me repeat myself, you can get a cat scan in the ER or outpatient, its up to you." Trusting his advise and not knowing better at the time, I opted to go to the ER due to the pain I was in despite the the cost, as I was led to believe it was my only option. Once I arrived at the ER, they asked the same questions and I replied with the same answers and their resolve was to send me straight home with a laxative. Problem solved. I had been constipated from the pain meds but now stuck with an enormous bill that I was expected to pay when this all could have been avoided had the initial Urgent Care Dr. taken the same steps / advise as the ER Dr. Now, very upset that I realized I had been given bad advise (and false, as there were other options, validated by the ER Dr.) I called the Urgent Care and pled my case to the supervisor on duty. She said "I would feel the same way if I were in your shoes" and she advised I take it up with Katheryn Biasotti in Risk Management. I did this and after my concerns were considered, I received a letter saying she felt the Urgent Care Dr. Michaelson did nothing wrong. I later come to find out that this lady whom handled the claim is also romantically involved with the Dr. in question and they have lived together for many, many years. Certainly a red flag and conflict of interest if you ask me (or anyone else)! I discussed my concerns with a personal friend that works at the hospital and they assured me that this wasn't the first time that someone had similar concerns and advised me to contact Bartons CEO, Dr. Purvance in which I did. Dr Purvance then delegated the complaint right back to the same person whom is romantically involved with the Dr in question. I expressed this conflict of interest and he then turned the issue over to Human Resources. This person then listened to my story several times and in great detail and told me everything was handed back to Dr. Purvance for the final decision. I finally received a letter from the CEO where he sated again "the Dr's did nothing wrong in his professional opinion" but yet offered me a one time 50% discount if I was to pay in 10 days. This is clearly a case of Dr.'s sticking up for Dr's as ANYONE I have told my story to outside the Barton foundation (including other very reputable ER Dr's) has sided with me and agreed that after Dr. Michaelson ruled out serious symptoms and also knew that he had prescribed me percocet (the #1 culprit for constipation) a cat scan was not necessary and a trip to the ER could have been avoided had he given me a laxative just as the ER Dr's did. While Dr. Michelson (may or may not have been) trying to subject me to unnecessary procedures, his actions nonetheless had that effect, and I would not have occurred such costs but for that erroneous advice. I am thoroughly appalled by the bad advise, the unprofessional-ism of having the head of the complaints department romantically involved with the Dr in question and finally, the resolve. Everything about this experience from start to finish was unpleasant and unnecessary, costing me a great deal of grief, money and time. read more

I live in the Bay Area and while I was visiting South Lake Tahoe I fell and feared my wrist was broken. The staff at Barton Urgent Care was really nice and very helpful. Dr. Ewald was kind and caring. Lynn, the x-ray technician was exceptional. Luckily my wrist wasn't broken. They put me in a brace and I was on my way. I can't say enough good things about this office. I would recommend them highly. read more

The lady at the front desk was very unfriendly. I asked if they were in contract with Anthem Blue Cross of CA and she snapped, "I don't know what that means." I then explained very briefly what it meant - that they had an agreement to provide certain services at certain prices I and are therefore considered in-network for that insurance. She interrupted me, though, to say, "yes, I know all that." She seemed to take a little delight in her snappy responses, too. (Tip for the manager: don't put people like that at the front desk!) I suspect maybe they do not contract with *any* insurance companies (?) and that's why she was being so weird about it - to avoid bringing attention to it, because it sounds bad. Their price for a simple doctor visit is $186, which is reasonable I think; but if they are not in contract with your insurance, you might have to pay a significant chunk of that, depending on copays/deductibles/etc., and your out-of-network coverage. read more

I came here suffering from nausea and stomach pain. I had been vomiting quite a bit, and as a performer it gave me anxiety. I mentioned the anxiety, and that seems to be all the doctor heard. She wrote me a prescription for an anti-depressant. I told her I didn't want to go on any anti-depressants and she responded "welcome to your new life" and sent me on my way. What I needed was a recommendation for an gastro intestinal doctor which I did not receive. I'm not sure how she didn't know it was acid reflux but she was a horrible doctor. read more

After falling on ice in the ski lodge parking lot, I needed an x-ray of my shoulder. I was able to book a same day appointment online, and was seen by the doctor without a further wait. Everyone was efficient and professional, and I left 1-1/2 hours after arriving. The doctor was thorough in his exam, and gave me good advice about how to care for the injury. Twisted my ankle snowboarding, and the next day I woke up with both my knee and ankle on fire. Luckily, Barton Urgent Care is located in the middle of Stateline, a short 15 minute drive from where I was staying. Not only was everyone friendly, but I was in and out with an x-ray and brace fitting within 1.5 hours! One of the nurses, who saw my Snowglobe wristband, even encouraged me to ask the doctor for a doctor's note so I could get into Snowglobe easier (it didn't work, but I went anyways). We are here visiting from Burbank, Ca on our vacation and I got very sick. Its awful being sick in a town your not familiar with. The staff at Barton made me feel right at home. Doctor Ewald was warm, caring, and efficient. Unfortunately, I cant remember the name of my nurse because i was so sick and out of it, but she went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. Looked like we may have needed to wait an hour or so but once daughter started to blow chunks they got us seen quickly. Not much they could do but said she would live which was good news. I was greeted by the friendliest most helpful receptionists ever. Must have been different than some of you have. They even bill Kaiser which most places don't. The x-ray guy was great as was the Doctor. I had x-rays saw the Doctor and was out of there in about an hour. I couldn't have had a better experience. No I am not Barton making this up. read more

My mom had to visit an urgent care during our vacation. We chose Barton because it was near where we were staying. Got there about 3, and only 3 people ahead of us. She said our wait would be about 30 minutes... 2 hours later we were in a room. No emergencies came in, no one went ahead of us. They are just that slow! Everyone was nice, but very slow! Minus 1 star. My mom needed meds so they asked us where to call in the RX. We had no idea what was nearby, what was open, etc. it was already 6pm so we asked them to send it to an open pharmacy nearby. They sent it to a rite aid on the complete other end of town. Took us about 30 mins to get there. We found out that there were much closer options. Minus half star. We were told we would get a call with test results about noon the next day... no call. We called about 3 times and left messages, finally got a call about 4pm with basically no info. Told us to call back in 4 days. No one ever answers the phone. Leave a message and several hours later someone will hopefully call you back. Minus another half star. Maybe i am being picky, or maybe I'm just spoiled. We have much better urgent care centers where we live. You get in and out Ina reasonable time, someone answers the phone, and they follow up quickly! read more

Truly the rudest, nastiest front desk woman imaginable, name is Cindy. Walked up and had apiece of paper shoved at me. No greeting, no eye contact, I filled out the form and before I could sit down she asked for the co pay. During the hour we waited in this hell hole Cindy and her side kick talked at length about the fact that this place was the only show in town, that the doctors that worked there were making so much money that they didn't need to work weekends. Next they had a fight at the front entrance with a patient who was furious with their wait, the horrible care, the rude doctors, etc. Immediate left, went the Carson Tahoe Urgent Care and had my fractured wrist diagnosed and casted!!!! read more

Julie the front desk lady was extremely rude and not helpful. My doctor had to come down and tell them to do there job after we waited 2 hours for a urine test. I came here without insurance and I'm a visitor from out of town, and they were so kind and helpful! They were all happy to see me and proactive to help! When visiting Tahoe again I will continue to come here if I need. And I'm going to get insurance as well! The woman who checked me in was so kind as well as the woman who checked me out. !. The receptionists treated me like a burden rather than a patient. No customer service whatsoever 2. The Dr. diagnosed me immediately with pneumonia. I was out in 20 minutes - less nearly $500. They are out of my providers system and reimbursement was miniscule. 3. I received a call several days later that I had been overcharged by $200+. The lower number is what was reported to my provider. Today is nearly 2 1/2 months later and I have not seen a trace of refund. Funny how adamant they are about paying at the moment of service. No problem if it works both ways. I will be in Tahoe later this month and will station myself in their waiting room until I have cash in hand. read more

I have had to take my son here twice in the last year because his regular doctor was unable to get him in (Grrr...another complaint for another day). Once was for a badly sprained ankle/fractured growth plate. The wait time was about 15 minutes...not bad. The nurse and Dr. were very nice. Took xrays and said they needed to refer out to orthopedics. Second time was for what I thought was strep. Same wait time, not bad. Turned out to be Influenza A. Nurse Practitioner was great, very nice and friendly. Front desk staff needs to be a little more welcoming/on their game, but overall this is a great place to go in a pinch. read more

I wasn't thrilled about going to such a big clinic because they are closed at least so busy but when you have medical or / income issues you really don't have great choice so I was holding my breath about which provider I was going to get because I just got out of the hospital for pancreatitis and I had to follow up with a doctor and you know they only give you 20 minutes for these appointments and you know needed to be longer cuz we had a lot of things to talk about so when I got there of course it was busy but they have a nice you know reading selection and you can actually borrow books when you're there so I made myself relaxed about a half an hour later I got called back and I met my nurse practitioner who's also a prescriber and his name is Brian and oh my god Ryan is a doll just a big teddy bear! He was thorough we ordered tests he really made me feel good because I had some issues that I'm not going to get into but they were embarrassing and he was so professional but at the same time laid back considerate to my feelings yeah we went over on time and I do feel bad about that but I do have a follow up with him which I'm very excited about and hopefully I'll be getting some good news that the picture is looking clear I do have to say if all the nurse practitioner that we're like him top-notch care I'm actually pretty impressed with partners so far they've been very good the nursing staff when I was admitted fabulous absolutely fabulous took care of me through my whole weekend something there but Brian my follow up made it all worth it and I'm glad that I have him on my team so 5 stars! While visiting Lake Tahoe I suddenly experienced a dramatic bout with food poisoning. After a long night My Fiance called the clinic and they told him to bring me in immediately. Upon arrival I could barely walk and was severely dehydrated. I could not keep anything in my system. I was quickly checked in and evaluated by the nurse practitioner. I waited about 20 min and was taken in to see the doctor. He was very thorough and quickly diagnosed I was dehydrated and put me on an IV and prescribed medicine to relieve my nausea. The entire staff were caring and sensitive to my situation. And continually checked on me while I was getting my treatment. Thank you to everyone for your professionalism and skill. I was able to enjoy the rest of my vacation. read more
