This was my first time having Ecuadorian food, and I absolutely loved it. I went for breakfast, and had the Bolon de maduro, which is similar to mangu or mofongo. It also came with a side of thin steak, which was cooked perfectly and with a savory sauce similar to a ropa vieja sauce. It also came with an egg and a choice between coffee americano and cafe con leche. The presentation of the coffee was very cool: they gave me a clear glass of coffee and a glass of milk to pour in. read more

I normally order here as take out, while the prices are a bit high, I leave it alone and deal with it. However yesterday I placed an order to pick as I normally do, and the total was nearly 20 dollars more than usual. To make a long story short, the reason for the higher amount was due to the fact that they raised there prices, again, but they did not update the menu prices on their website. Had I known this as I was paying, I would had disputed this, but I was on the Florida Turnpike heading south to my home. All I got was an "I.m sorry" and that they were going to look into this. Come here to give into my Ecuadorian cravings and it does the job, food is pretty good BUT their prices are So Overpriced and Im not comparing to Ecua prices for Miami prices AND not only that they automatically add 20% gratuity to any order. If you say something about the added tip they say it's written on the menu, can't do anything about it. I went there today for lunch with my girlfriend. At first I thought the food was going to be good. My fiancée showed me this place for their caldo de bola. It is absolutely delicious with yuca, corn, oxtail and a yummy plantain ball stuffed with meat and veggies. The "broth" is my favorite part. I would just get that and mix it with rice and lime and that could be an entire meal by itself. We usually get it delivered on Uber Eats and it still arrives hot after a 20-minute drive. This is an updated review from my original 2017 one. I was there yesterday, and the food was excellent, I had a bolon of chicharron, encebollado mixto and my husband had seafood soup. The restaurant opens at 9am, we arrived at 10am. The employees greeted us with an annoying look in their faces. It took them 45 minutes for them to bring the bolon,, no water until we ordered a quaker drink. Almost an hour later for our food to arrive and we were the only customers there!!! Customer service and speed has not improved since the last time I was there and they don't seem to care. If it wasn't because I was having a huge craving for encebollado, I would not go back. The food was subpar at best. Service was the worst service I have ever experienced. We were seated at 4:03pm, did not get any utensils or water until 20 minutes later as no one came to serve us. Finally someone came and took out order and took it wrong as we had to go over it several times. 15 minutes go by and we are made aware that they don't have passion fruit juice and 2 dishes we ordered. After we go our substitute orders in; food did not come out until 5:12pm. Throughout all of our time waiting, not once were we asked if we needed something more nor asked if everything was fine. I drove 30min from my house to get a soup (caldo de pata) due to a recent procedure I can only have clear broth. I explained this to them showed them my medical card however; they wouldn't accommodate me. they wanted to charge me their HIGH price for the soup just giving me broth. I then asked for the Owner Giovanni "Oh he's too busy". Poor Mgmt. Ecuadorian restaurants are very scarce in South Florida, which makes Barzola's competition null. There food while pretty good comes with a mandatory 18% tip regardless of the service. Today we went to dine and we were very impressed with the meal, however, the same could not be said about the waitress (Alexandra) she was very rude and condescending. Upon paying our bill she had not informed us that the minimum credit card transaction was $12 (which is very hefty) inhibiting us from being able to split the bill. Rather than attempt to give us other options (we were even going to order extra food) she was just very annoyed and told us we had no options. I don't mind tipping. Ever. especially since I've been a server in the past. But her lack of customer service had me request her to take off the tip, which she said she could not. We tried to speak to the manager, she said there wasn't one. Honestly service was so bad that I really don't think I'll be returning to this establishment. If you like Ecuadoring food this is one of the few places you can eat. The food is amazinggg and very authentic. But get ready because the service sucks they take long to take you order once they take your order they take long to get you your drinks. Food comes out separate not everyone together. I'm Ecuadorians and. Or ally try to come here when in town since I don't get to eat traditional food where I live. Happy to say the food was great as usual and the service had improved from previous visits. Two reasons why I'm not giving them 5 stars. 1) the inside has been "under repair" for at least 2 years. This place would be much more popular if it had a complete finish. And 2) what I felt like was sneakily charging tip for our party of 4. I'm used to restaurants only charging tip for larger parties so although I should have noticed on the check, felt it was a bit dishonest. To pay they bring an iPad with the square app for you to pay as the server holds it and as we know it automatically recommends tip amounts. I mistakenly tipped, not thinking it was already charged. When I mentioned it she stated that I should have looked at the receipt with a bit of attitude. While I did not expect for the tip to be returned, I would have appreciated a nicer response. Consumer beware! They are adding a 12% fee that shows up as "Gratuity" on all orders (including take-out) and not telling customers when they order or when they pay. They get away with it because they also do not share an itemized receipt with you when it's time to pay, the receipt you get only shows the total amount due. We have had to ask for an itemized receipt both while eating-in and taking-out and quickly realized we would've paid a tip TWICE had we not asked for the OTHER receipt -- and that's what they're banking on. I don't have a problem tipping at all, especially these days. The problem here is, if it's going to be mandatorily included in my bill, I should be made aware of it so I don't end up tipping twice. I called the restaurant to ask why they included gratuity on my take-out order and the owner said it's due to COVID-19. I told them that if it's going to be an added cost to the bill, the CONSUMER should be made aware of it BEFORE they place their order, or at the very least when they pay (give the itemized receipt)! Put a sign on the door, then the burden is on me to read it. Very, very shady business practice. We've dined in and ordered many times from this place out of desperation because there's nowhere else to go for Ecuadorian food, I've ignored the TERRIBLE service from the people that serve you and the lack of attention before but I will never visit this place again. Terrible! It's sad that the only Ecuadorian restaurant has horrible service. They should definately not offer food to go. One they don't know how to give proper directions to heat uncooked "humitas." They also forgot my drinks to go (bill to go was about $48). I made another trip the next day and was told they can't do anything but reheat it there. Isn't that against the health code. Wouldn't it have been better to apologize and give me ones that are warm (they are $4.95 each, I bought 2). HORRIBLE. As an Ecuadorian who has recommended this spot several times as I have been here 4 times (dine in and take out) I will definately stop coming.
