It seems like a waste of time to rate a solid "5" restaurant! I can't even move the needle. But good stuff needs to be shared. We went for our 47th wedding anniversary last week. We drive up for a couple days from Columbus to enjoy the lake and The Bascule. It was just great. One of us had the Berkshire pork chop and it was insanely thick and perfectly grilled! The other was the scallop dish and it was six huge scallops perfectly cooked. All the sides were great including roasted Brussels sprouts. Crème brûlée was a great ending. Service was stellar. The Bascule Mule was interesting if a little over-gingery. Go to this place. You just can't go wrong. read more

This was our first time dining here and what a wonderful experience it was! Trendy, funky environment with a fun vibe. Phenomenal service from a very engaging waiter. Delicious seasonal specialty cocktails started off the evening beautifully. Bread with an outstanding dipping oil was a nice touch. Within our group, two of us had the Blue Cheese topped sirloin steak entrees, one had the filet mignon and one had the night's special - panko crusted walleye (in honor of Ashtabula's weekend Wine and Walleye Festival.) Raves from everyone about these entrees. Excellent side dishes as well, including deep fried brussel sprouts, fresh snap peas, and parsnip puree. Truly contemporary fine dining of American cuisine. We visited this restaurant on a Wednesday as part of Erie Fine Dining. we didn't know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. Our waiter was an enthusiastic young man that we took as the owner. He was not, but probably should have been. I've never experienced any server any better. He showed exceptional knowledge of the menu and made you like your choice was the perfect choice. Actually any choice would be the perfect choice. Good food and reasonably priced given the portions. A quaint inviting building once inside. Good food, descent prices, and great service. Happy with our first visit, I'm confident our subsequent visits will be as good! read more

Enjoyed a delicious birthday dinner last night at Bascules staring with the roasted cauliflower and the arugula salad. We were filled up but had already ordered our main meals. Holy cow, the salmon special and bolognese were outstanding. Delicious. So, of course, we had to order birthday dessert so we got the crème brûlée. Again, delicious. We love Bascule. The food is consistently delicious and refreshing. While I can always count on the menu to provide something that will satisfy me and my dining companions, the daily specials are always delightfully surprising. On my recent visit, my dining partner and I shared the ribeye for 2 which was spectacular. We both raved about the meal during the hour drive home. The servers are warm and inviting and we enjoy chatting with them. I will continue to travel to Bascule because I know the meal is well worth the drive. Thank you for what you do! read more

Bascule Bridge Grille is easily one of the nicest and most accommodating restaurants on Bridge Street. I have always had the most pleasant experiences with the staff, whether it be at a table, at a bar, or on the phone, no matter how busy the restaurant was--which I think speaks volumes. It's easy and understandable to get overwhelmed, but the staff at Bascule handles everything in stride and with professionalism. The food and drinks, though? Those are even better. The steak? I am still reeling from the dining experience we had at Bascule's almost 3 weeks ago. First of all, we are discerning eaters. We know good food. My other half ordered a side which came with homemade mayo. I tried a bite dipped in mayo and could not get over the mayo! How ridiculous does that sound?! I actually would have liked to order a bowl of it on its own. I believe there was a bit of garlic in it. Whatever it was, it was terrific. My appetizer was "different devils." What an exploding taste medley that has left a mark on me forever. I would take the hour long drive back just for this ap. The duck and fingerlings were no disappointment. Delicious! The parsnip puree was a wonderful surprise. Who would have thought? The service was impeccable. The atmosphere was nice without requiring formal attire. The prices are typical of a gourmet restaurant. (If you want cheap food, go to McDonald's.) We were able to meet the gracious chef. This was an experience we won't forget. This was fantastic. Went on a Friday night and they were somewhat busy. I did make reservations. Our entrees were perfectly cooked. The Vanilla Bean Crème Brulée was one of the best we've ever had and it was perfect to share after a great meal. Starter - Bibb lettuce salad with parmesan peppercorn dressing. We decided to get the specials. Entree #1 was monkfish with basmati rice. Entree #2 was shortribs with parsnip puree. Both were fantastic. This restaurant, along with the other shops and business owners, are doing a superb job at promoting local products and talent. Amazing experience! Came from Erie to celebrate my fiancées birthday - read reviews beforehand and tried the calamari and bolognese - I lived in New York City last year and have had calamari and bolognese at multiple restaurants but these were absolutely delicious. Calamari was crunchy and flavorful with great dipping options. Pasta was cooked perfectly and sauce was delicious. I ordered the sirloin for dinner with whipped potatoes and asparagus - my fiancée got the filet with whipped potatoes and side salad. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. We are definitely coming back. It took all my willpower not to order the whole menu, especially since I saw other diners ordering yummy looking items (scallops, tacos...). Even the bread was out of this world. Back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. Going to give them 4 and then adjust next time i go there. Pretty good experience. Met up with some friends there. Good drinks. Friendly atmosphere. We had the charcuterie board which was quite good. Bread was nice. Dinners were good. Not great. Not knock your socks off. The Fruitti di Mare was ok. Sauce was thin in flavor. We ate here twice on our trip to Ohio. Both times the food was delicious, and served so hot we to wait to eat it. The cauliflower app. was very good, a little salty for me but I don't really use salt. We had steak with the blue cheese, pork chops, Brussels sprouts, Arctic char, chicken escalope, rice pilaf, toasted potatoes, whipped potatoes, strawberry custard cream and the chocolate dessert. We are just crazy about this restaurant! Everyone, the bartenders, the floor manager, the chefs, are all just great. They greet you, seat you, and feed you like you are friends, or family! Go on Friday night. For some reason, this is not a busy night for them. The food here, and I mean EVERYTHING, is spectacular. My personal fave are the scallops. Stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and SO glad we did. We have been raving about the food, service, and atmosphere to family over the past week as we are still in awe of our experience. Safe to say, we were starving upon entering the restaurant and the host was surprisingly get us a table. We ordered the Chef Flight which is 100% worth the money. We have absolutely nothing negative to say about our meal. I have attached pictures of our meal minus the dessert as we forgot to take pictures before we ate it. My family and I came to GOL for vacation and I was looking for some place nearby that was a bit more upscale to have a special dinner. We discovered Ashtabula and loved Bridge Street so much- the shops here are adorable. I was really excited to discover the Bascule Bridge Grille. It's a beautiful restaurant/wine bar, and the service was spectacular. We started off with the Charcuterie, which was really tasty. The meats were good and the pickled onions were the icing on the cake. Next, we enjoyed some tasty fresh bread with some oil and vinegar to dip it in. Super tasty. I then enjoyed a seasonal salad with blueberries and pecans. I had asked for no bleu cheese, which they still added, but it wasn't a big deal to simply take it off myself. The salad was really tasty. For entrees, I had the sauteed chicken with golden potatoes and my mom had the same dish but asked for sweet potato mash instead. OMG. It was incredible. The sweet potato mash was my favorite between the two. The chicken was so good and flavorful and we both loved our meals. My SO ordered a small pizza and had some fries on the side- he really liked his meal. For dessert, we enjoyed the creme brulee. It was so tasty! We also received a little piece of dark chocolate with orange in it, which I was instantly obsessed with and discovered it was from a local chocolate store, Marianne's, up the street. What a great find. We had stopped for the night on a road trip to Cape Cod. After checking in at a Hampton Inn along the highway we ate out to look for someplace to dine and accidentally stumbled across the lovely shops and restaurants along Bridge Street. After sitting down we were greeted by the Chef/Owner who told us both the history of Bascule but also his special dishes. We started with the mussels and some wine. The arugula salad was outstanding, perhaps one of the best salads ever. The egg on top was a real plus. My entree was stuffed veal and whipped potatoes, with green peas, very filling and very tasty. Kim had the duck, which is a signature dish here. I had a couple bites and it was over the top outstanding! We sat in the bar area with a great window view. Have been on a few occasions and each visit has been highly enjoyable. The menu is seasonal but the owner/chef utilizes regional/organic ingredients. The Chicken Marsala is a taste explosion waiting to happen with each bite, also adding the portions were very generous. The salmon is also outstanding, cooked to perfection, flaking apart with exceptional taste. Not a big dessert guy here, but had a bite of my wife's carrot cake and it was fantastic. The service is outstanding; definitively can appreciate the mixologist on hand-truly a man of his craft. Loved the fact I had only been there once prior and he remembered what I had ordered to the very lemon twist in my drink.
