Reindeer chili - outstanding
Jay T.

This restaurant and bar is located inside the Talkeetna Lodge. There are large picture windows with spectacular views. This restaurant is open seasonally depending on when the lodge is open. During our visit, they were only open for dinner. As our server was busy with several other tables, the manager jumped in and brought us our drink orders. They have several local beers on tap. The wine selection is ok, nothing great. All of the food that we ordered was fantastic. The reindeer chili was delicious. We did eat here a second time, while playing Thursday trivia. Good chicken wings and fried cauliflower. Both were good.

Grilled Caesar Salad with Chicken

All the food we had here was delicious. The servers all did a good job. Prices were pretty steep, but that's a hotel restaurant for ya. It's the more casual of the restaurants here, so we weren't even gonna try the other one! It was convenient, but not great value. Figure you pay that much, you should at least have some leftovers, but that wasn't the case. Do NOT order the Cucumber Jalapeno Chicken Salad! A lot of money for tons of greens!!!

Buddha Bowl

I ordered the Buddha Bowl and it was delicious and very filling. Service was great. Many of the people working are seasonal workers so it's fun to talk to them and ask how they are finding Alaska! The ambiance is nice with a lot of natural light coming in throughout the day. Beautiful views!

Wonderful restaurant in the Talkeetna Lodge. Come as you are and enjoy the view of Denali. We enjoyed a salad with a nice piece of halibut on top, and the wagyu, bison burger. I substituted a salad for the fries. Both salads were garden greens with goat cheese, cranraisins and pistachios. The burger had sautéed onions and cheese on top. All were delicious. A patio is an option for seating. We watched single engine planes come into the airport nearby.

Spectacular view of Denali (30% chance) and a great menu. Had party of 6 and we enjoyed our food (what they had in stock, they were out of 5 menu items (poke bowl, mussels, chicken wings...etc). Staff nice as well.

Dessert menu for Foraker restaurant 7/2022

FOR FORAKER - it's a smaller restaurant, staff was fantastic. Could only find old menus online before we came. It looked good. Got here and found it all changed. Staff is fantastic though! My surf and turf was expensive. The turf was Bison tenderloin and awesome. The Prawns were the same as the bag I got from Costco the week before we came. Dessert menu is super different. Everything I was interested in was gone. The current menu is completely generic and not something I would expect with this nice a menu. Basically followed a standard chain Restaurant in the lower 48. Menu says Alaskan root beer for the root beer float, but turns out it's Barqs. For the cost, I wouldn't repeat.

I had to write a review to do justice to Base Camp Bistro . It is attached to the Talkeetna Lodge ( which is beautiful and grand). They offer a breathtaking view along with outdoor seating . They have a lengthy dinner menu with exquisite dishes and also a bistro menu with classic dishes with some Alaskan flare . I highly recommend giving Base Camp Bistro a try because 3 stars definitely is not an accurate description of this restaurant!

Oh dear. What's happened to West Rib? I used to LOVE coming here, when i was a mere stripling of a…read moretourist way back in 2010, and i have returned many times. I organized an overnight camping trip JUST so i could have dinner at West Rib again, man, what a disappointment. Was the place always this run down, and shabby? Did the sun get in my eyes and blind me? Well anyway, so after me demanding we go to West Rib, yet seeing most other eateries in town absolutely BULGING with tourists, i was a little taken aback by the solo diner in the outside space at West Rib. Gamely i ploughed on with my choice, thinking "maybe i should have gone somewhere else" The server was a nice enough young girl, and she bowed each time she visited the table, and i have absolutely no issues with her - very polite and nice. When she brought the menu, i was shocked. I am sure, i am positive it used to be fatter, had many more choices, every other time I've been here. I distinctly remember a certain sauce or dip i used to order that had a funky name, and was sort of like a schmear but runnier. Now there's only a single page to order from. I wanted to leave. I honestly was on the verge of getting up and going. Anyway, I ordered the Stubbs Burger - hadn't realized he was the Mayor Cat dude, nor that the burger was named after him. Husband ordered the special which was a Brisket Sandwich, and some Jalapeno Poppers to start. The food was fairly fast to come out, and the Poppers were hot, and came with a cool, creamy sauce, maybe ranch? They were ok, taste like every other Jalapeno Popper I've had, I'm not that keen on them to be honest. Then the entrees came out very quickly after that, so i just got started on my burger. Well - see I've been off potatoes in all their glorious forms since February, but these beer-battered fries looked so appetizing, that i grabbed a handful and distributed them evenly across my burger. And i must say - the burger was perfect. I like a well-done, no-pink burger. This was absolutely exactly how i would have asked for it to be cooked if given the choice, i had to take off the onion and the tomato off (they give me stomachache) but of course the 10 fries i put in there filled the gap nicely. And the cheese was oozing very beautifully and dripping out of the bottom. It was gorgeous. He said his Brisket Sandwich was really good too, so despite the place's shabby, and rundown appearance, and slimmer menu - what they cook, they do it very well. I did hear disquieting rumours regarding West Rib, from people around town when i said i was going there for dinner, so whatever they've done, has gotten them a bad reputation in town, which is quite sad really. It holds fond memories for me, due to it being one of the first places my husband took me when we weren't married yet, and i hadn't moved here.

I can't recommend this place anymore. They say they will be open when you talk to them (in person-…read morethey also run tbe grocery store), then they aren't. They told me they are having a hard time finding staff this year. Every time I've stayed in Talkeetna they've been closed, even when they told me they planned to be open. They aren't updating their website or voice-mail either. The place is dilapidated and run down as well. Such a shame.

After being to most of the national parks in the US, where all you can get is pizza and Caesar…read moresalad, I am so impressed by the quality of food here. We made a reservation with the front desk as soon as we checked in after a long day of being cold in the rain and waiting at the bus station in Talkeetna. We should've just gone straight to the lodge but we didn't know how hard it was going to rain. Smoked salmon chowder: 5/5 always a hit in Alaska Midnight sun kissed scallops: 4/5 a little bit overdone Salmon sushi cups: 4/5 thought these were going to be raw but they're fully cooked, not worth the price Grilled halibut: 5/5 had to get it for the local ingredient Crab ravioli: 100/5 wow the flavor of the sauce and crab were fantastic. We usually don't ever really like pasta dishes because it's too rich and stagnant in the flavor but we could not get enough of this. I would love to have this recipe Crème brûlée: 4/5 classic but nothing special After going on a disappointing cruise with Royal Caribbean my expectations of this place was extremely low knowing it was operated by a cruise company. But Alaska has impressed me! I wonder if the lodge can be booked separately from a gray line because the train is honestly a bit of a waste of time. Would love to come back via self driving.
