My dude
Eric O.

If you needed further validation what I said was true, look no further than value brand "the dude" confronting me about my review. Apparently expecting customer service and a mentality above high school is being uncool. See attached photos. By the way here is my response before you blocked me "my dude": Something tells me the only parties you went to were in high school. Learn to operate a business how about that. Nobody is lying, loser.

It might be easy to miss Baseline Liquor on Cornelius Pass and Baseline. It's in the same lot as Mr Bento.
Katie B.

For a small store, Baseline Liquor has a very large selection of local spirits, with an entire row dedicated to our wonderful Oregon distilleries, like New Deal. They also have your typical spirit brands, a selection of wine, cold beer, mixers and a small section of cocktail tools. The staff were friendly and knowledgable - happy to share their recommendations. I've only been to a couple liquor stores in the Portland metro area, but this is by far the best I've seen.

I've spent a little each time. I would prefer better service from the staff.

Market of Choice is an upscale specialty grocer on a par with New Seasons. It's a much more…read morefriendly place than Whole Paycheck. You go there looking for specialty stuff you can't find any where else -- fruit/veggies in season, fresh meat/poultry/fish, fine wine, cheese, gourmet coffee, etc. The staff is friendly & knowlegeable & the vibe is pretty laid back. I much prefer MoC to New Seasons. There's no comparison to Whole Paycheck ... MoC is waaaaaay better!

I've found vegan items that I haven't been able to find at other stores. I love these Skinny Mint Cookies that I discovered there that are vegan and gluten free..yumm! I also grabbed a Red Lentil Vegan Shepherds Pie for dinner. That was good and savory, though I could have done without the peas. I was happy that I found vegan mozzarella cheese sticks that I needed for a recipe, couldn't find them at other stores. After shopping, my sister and I grabbed coffee in the little coffee shop inside the store and went upstairs to sit in a comfortable chair near the fireplace to chat. There's a community room, I believe you can book it for meetings such as book clubs. There's a microwave upstairs. It's a budget friendly option, my 16 oz. Sugar free Hazelnut latte with soy milk was only $4.50. Some things are a little spendier at Market of Choice. But so many things I can't find elsewhere. I will be returning!

COVID PROTOCOL HAZARD: My one star reviews are very rare, but this business is operating as a…read morecommunity hazard during COVID with the type of attitude and carelessness from the elderly owner that is... breathtaking. This week I went in to purchase a couple items. Approaching the counter, I requested the owner put on her mask before presenting my purchase for processing. It was important to me as I developed bronchitis over the weekend and the steroids I was taking increased my risk if I contracted COVID. The owner refused to dawn her mask, went on this bizarre tirade, and when I calmly confirmed it was in-fact required to wear a mask, she demanded I put my items down and leave. She was calling the police, Glenna yelled, as she followed me outside with phone in hand, yelling that she was calling the police as I calmly left. I had a couple other weekly errands to complete with responsible businesses. I followed up with the Hillsboro PD when I got home. Yeah, she called the police on me, demanding a criminal trespass complaint. Of course she gave them my plate, and HPD had zero interest with the issue. And while I wasn't interested in the details, it's clear the responding officer knows exactly who she is and that she is a frequent caller. I offered to support a charge of filing a false police report, but they have real fish to fry. I was able to successfully deescalate the "conflict" so no worries. You just can't make these things up. I submitted this review previously on the day it happened, because the experience was so jarring and careless of our community that I felt people had to know. So Glenna decided to follow me on Yelp (confirmed by email) and (while I can't confirm the source of the complaint), the review disappeared after a complaint was filed with Yelp on a technicality. Curious to see if this honest, time- and visit-relevant experience, lasts her next complaint. I mean, there is a police log about it. It happened. Now as I flip through reviews going back years, it now makes sense. This is not a business worth shopping at.

I also happened to move out to Hillsboro last fall (Oct 2013) and we just discovered recently that the tasting room is about a mile from our house! VERY EXCITING!!!!!! The first time we went to the tasting room, my husband and I took my parents and I was impressed that the entire flight was free to taste. That is practically unheard of in my opinion! I have went to distillery row in Portland, and it is traditionally about $5 a person to taste (unless you buy-in to the passport-thingy then it's cheaper, but still!!!). If you like whiskey, definitely give big bottom a try, it is top shelf taste with not the top shelf-price.

Tonight I got to sample some whiskey's and a rum from BBW at "Toast" (The original artisan spirits…read moretasting). I'm already a whiskey fan so I really enjoyed both their 111 proof american straight whiskey and their American straight bourbon. I have no idea what the rum was, except yummy. I also got to meet the makers of these fine spirits; Ted & Taylor Pappas. Talk about perfect people to run the show; fun and charismatic! They seemed to be reeling in my tasters than any other distillery. A good friend of mine is a friend of Ted & Taylor's so I'm hoping to get to do a grown up tasting at their distillery (versus the thimble sized samples given out at Toast for a token) or help out bottling some weekend morning. If you haven't tried their whiskey, you really have to give it a shot.
