Came for a holiday magnum as a Christmas gift, didn't love the wine, but thought a membership could be cool to enjoy the wineries activities. Then, I forgot about it. Stopped in today to see - did I have a membership? I know I used a card that's tied to an old email - so really truly unsure. Figured it would be a no or a pickup. Instead; when I wanted to try a wine to see if it was worth drinking, I got the third degree. I dared to ask for a wine on the wall behind the counter - apparently those aren't wines that they have but a display of old ones. LOL: So I ascertained from the experience that I won't likely want to come back so I requested cancellation. No hard feelings - nothing bad - just not my deals Then was asked why - well, I'm from California wine country and I don't want to continue to he a member at a winery with wine I don't enjoy and a vibe I don't like. Excellent weather to go to a winery. There are hundreds of vineyards around Oregon, and I try to take the time to check some of them out when possible. This year however we've made it more of a priority. This one is right close to our home (about 15 minutes away). One of my all time favorite wines is the Toasted Cow White Blend from Oak Knoll. Sweet but not too sweet and light and refreshing, perfect for a Summer's day. Highly recommend. read more

I had tasted some of their wines at an event and decided to give a tasting a try direct from the source. Nice and close to Hillsboro and very reasonably priced for a tasting. Tasing fee is waived with $50/per tasting in purchase of their products. They do hold various events throughout the year, so check their calendar. Friendly staff (and a dog). The tasting takes place in an old barn with concrete floors. We were given a list of available wines to try and you check off the six you want. Most are from them, but a few from other vineyards. No real explanation of the wines and some basic prepackaged items if you want a snack. The wines come on a nice board with the names of what you picked. Start from the left and go right. Now, I'm not a big wine drinker, but my opinion is their whites are the best. They also have some very sweet wines, almost too sweet for me. Overall, it's ok. read more

Oak Knoll is very much a budget friendly wine tasting option in the Hillsboro area. They're located in an old barn which is kind of cute on the outside but it lacks any real ambiance on the inside. They put up decorations for valentine's day but with the curtains and dividers sitting about it didn't feel very cozy. Their flights are $15 and they come in flight glasses. There's wine glasses on your table that you can pour them into and also water. I didn't get a brief description of any of the wines like I have at other places and there was no charcuterie board. I was not a fan of any of the wines I tried. They all seemed to have a strong alcohol aftertaste. The two employees who were there, Dakota and Alston, were really nice and friendly. They checked on me often and always made sure I had plenty of water. If you check in on Yelp you get a BOGO coupon. They said they had never seen it before but they did honor it. My husband and I stopped in on a lovely fall Saturday while some of the grapes were being harvested. We have tasted at wineries all across California and Oregon (relaxed all the way to fancy), and we tend to prefer places like Oak Knoll. It just feels like everyone is welcome, we get to pick which wines we want to taste, and there's a bottle of something for every preference. $15 for 6 2-ish oz pours and there were more than 12 wines available, so my husband and I each made our picks with only 1 overlap and got to try most of the offerings. We stock all kinds of wine in the house: red, white, bold, dry, sweet, earthy, blackberry, and more. We bought a bottle of the white blend and twilight blush because they were delightful and flavors we felt were missing from our cabinet. I see us stopping by a couple of times a year for an easy afternoon date to get some fresh air, sip a variety of wines, talk and decompress, and still have enough money to take home a bottle or two without breaking the bank. We like the wine so we stopped in for a tasting. We were abruptly told no more tastings due to closing in 45 min. I'm not sure I was a fan of that. Seemed cold and we were the only ones there. Stopped in for the first time this weekend while out for wine tastings. We had our pup with us, and Oak Knoll is very welcoming...as long as you don't allow them on the tasting counter and they are well-behaved! The girls on staff were very casual and friendly. The place is very low key, small informal tasting room along with a large indoor warehouse type space with some tables. They told us that they offer up life music and bingo in the space on occasion, although I'm not sure of when that occurs. The wines were pretty good, and they got pretty busy while we were there. Overall it was a fun and relaxing experience....and with $5 tastings for 6 wines who could complain?! We recommend and will be back. read more

Oak Knoll Winery is an unpretentious winery with wine options for all palates. Their wines range from dry reds/whites to super sweet, making this a great option for wine enthusiasts of all kinds. There are a few snack options to choose from, but I would recommend packing snacks/charcuterie. My favorite wine was the white Pinot noir, it was very refreshing, and light, but with a deeper flavor that you would get with a red wine. The tasting was affordable and generous, and the wines by the bottle are also fairly priced. Dakota provided table service and was a very welcoming and attentive host! I think there is room for improvement regarding the indoor seating aesthetic and outdoor seating options. The inside is very "bare bones" but I particularly enjoy sitting outside at wineries anyway! The outdoor seating area offers picnic tables, but I think the addition of traditional chair/table seating would be nice, and perhaps some Adirondacks. read more

I just learned that my friend Esther has been to the same location, glancing to the side of this review! Neat stuff--- Founded in 1970 by the Vuylsteke family, OK specializes in the Pinots, and is also known for their framboise dessert wine, called Frambrosia. Picnic area Little did I know that Oak Knoll's location is so close to my good friend, who lives in the beautiful, rustic part of Hillsboro. I've been drinking their wines for a time, and I feel that they excel in these light, sweet Pinot whites. Gotta stop by soon and, like Esther, order off their dessert tasting menu. A lovely glass... After our trip to Ecola State Park to see migrating whales was a washout, we needed to make the trip to the coast worthwhile. After lunch and ice cream at Tillamook Creamery, we started the drive back to Wilsonville. My wife suggested stopping at Oak Knoll. Why not - a little wine to help us whine about our whale watching. Lori was very friendly and the tasting was $5 for six pours. Checking in with Yelp resulted in the waiving of one of the tasting fees. BONUS! The chardonnay was good. I chose five reds and my wife went with the whites. We agreed that the reds were generally better than the whites - only the sparkling Pinot Gris stood out. We bought a bottle of the 2016 Pinot Noir for $20. $25 for a bottle of wine and two tastings definitely qualifies as a bargain. Give it a try if you are in the Hillsboro area. read more

The Willamette Valley in Oregon is like the Napa Valley in California, only without the crowds and thimble-size pours, and a great place to taste the best of Oregon wines. Everything is so GREEN and we were lucky to be visiting on a sunny day and the winery grounds are beautiful. One of the 4, 5, 6 (?) wineries we visited (I lost count) was Oak Knoll, a family-run operation for over 35 years. The two women in the tasting room on the day we visited were really knowledgeable and friendly (one even confessed to being a "California Transplant," originally from Fresno) and it was only $5 to taste 11 of the wines. Beware: the tasting room is also full of other goodies and knickknacks you never knew you needed. Besides a case of wine, I left there having bought some Christmas gifts too - - only 68 days left til Christmas ya know!!!! Like any other winery, there were good wines (IMO), and some not as good. And it is true Oak Knoll, makes some sweet ones and I'm not necessarily a fan of sweet wines (except dessert wines) but the one I was most intrigued with was the "Niagara" and this one has a "cult" following. If you're into grape/varietal history at all, the Niagara grape is a true native American (Labrusca) varietal because it grows so well in the cooler Oregon climate. It's not so much sweet as it is "grapy," probably why it's grown primarily for grape juice, with a really intense nose. Needless to say, we bought a bottle to have during the upcoming holidays with some local cracked crab -- to quote RR "YUMM-O!" Speaking of dessert wines, try the Frambrosia, it's made from 100% Oregon raspberries and is not overly sweet. Imagine it paired with something intensely chocolate . . . I'm swooning!!! Anyway, if you are in the Oregon Willamette Valley wine region, go out of your way to visit Oak Knoll Winery, you won't be sorry. read more

I was attracted to visiting this winery because I had heard of it before and the tasting fee was only $5. I was told by a friend that the wine wasn't good but figured I would try it for myself because taste can be subjective. Well, I got what I paid for! While you can taste a zillion wines for $5, the quality of the wine is terrible. Oak Knoll's wines taste extremely flat in flavor without much going on. Some of the wines were actually off-putting. I was with a group of 6 people and we all agreed this was the worst winery of our tour. Don't let the cheap tasting fee attract you. Just to update my review, that I wrote 2 years ago. I want to add that I have since joined the wine club, so yes, I am still a big fan. If you check out the website, Oak Knoll hosts some incredible events, and I have never had a bad experience here. Beyond the excellent service I get everytime I go, the wine is my favorite. The difference between an estate and vineyard is a vineyard has to use the grapes they grow. The advantage that Oak Knoll has in being an estate, they get to ick the best grapes and use them for the wine. read more

I recently stopped by Oak Knoll while cruising down highway 219, a winery whose reputation is for producing approachable wines. Oak Knoll is well known for their sweet wine production but they also make a few drier styles of wine. What I wasn't aware of is that they have been in production since the 70's and do a substantial case production (in Oregon) of about 25,000 cases a year. The tasting room is located in what was once a cow milking facility at an old dairy farm. However gone are the days of the white liquid produced by mammary glands of mammals in exchange for a white juice produced by their artistic vision and through the body of a grape. Outside the grounds are well kept and offer several picnic tables to enjoy a glass of wine on. Since Oak Knoll has a relatively high wine production by Oregon standards they can be found in several markets across the state. I assume their most notable and widely distributed selections will be Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and berry wines. Inside the tasting room is fairly simplistic with a minimal space, oak shelving and a bar. The tasting fee is only $5 and they allow you to choose 6 wines. I tasted a broad range of wine except for ones that weren't open, instead of talking about every wine I'll mention the one's I enjoyed most. First I was pleasantly surprised by their 09 Pinot Gris ($12) which showed off characteristics similar to a Gewurztraminer. This wine had a pronounced floral quality along with lemon zest and grapefruit mid-palate and a surprisingly spicy finish. At only $12 a bottle I think this is a great warm weather wine that can be enjoyed by a range of drinkers. Next was a 2010 Rose of Pinot Noir ($12), this wine had an intense color because of prolonged skin exposure exhibiting strawberry and mineral notes but I did feel it was a little too tart on the finish. Finally they have three vintages of Pinot, I preferred the 05 Reserve. It's very rare to see wineries selling an 2005 vintage, apparently that's because of their philosophy which is to age them longer so that they are ready to drink once released. Of course this is still subjective from person to person but the 05 did feel like the most well rounded, structured wine and for ($29) the price isn't astronomical. They also produce two big reds whose fruit come from the Rouge Valley but I only tasted the Syrah ($28). It was ok, it had a good fruit profile but lacked any sort of depth. Although if it's a juicy fruit laden wine you're looking for it may be right up your alley. Lastly if you're a fan of sweet wines this may be the perfect fit for you because they offer 9 variations! Now there's a BIG difference between a dessert wine and a sweet wine. Dessert wines that impress me exhibit elegance, texture, and balance. Fruit or sugar added wines are produced more for taste preference amongst anything else and unfortunately most of what I tasted here was the latter. The Niagara for example is a wine I have heard of but never tasted, the manager informed me she can't keep it in stock so I said "what the hell". Eh, I was wrong, it tasted like the remnants of a flat Welches grape soda, I could barely stomach it. Overall I think Oak Knoll will appeal more to less experienced wine drinkers or those that prefer simpler, fruitier wines. read more

Beautiful location, but the tasting room doesn't have much character as other wineries I've been to. Typical tasting program - $5 for 6 tastes, you check boxes on a menu dim sum style. Their dessert wines are especially tasty...plus, the Riesling is the wine of the month (July 2010) right now and is on sale for $7! Unexpectedly checked out Oak Knoll while waiting for a client in the area-- which I really appreciated they were open normal business hours during the week for winter/spring months. I believe the cheapest tasting fee I've had yet in the area at $5, and you're also able to pick the 6 tastings as they have tons of options. Most were fairly sweet but all were very nicely done. The only reason for the 4 stars is they have such a beautiful piece of land and the building they have is also really nice from the outside-- but the ambiance of the tasting room left something to be desired. The winery is a nice one but not as clean and nice as many others ...they are a bit cheap when it comes to events held. We joined the Chilli Cook off contest , bought and paid for all the ingredients paid for the extra large crock pot they asked for. The contest drew so much business for the Vineyard it was people out there door waiting to come in and have many FREE tastes of the contest participants Chili. What did we- the cooks get for all our hard work ?? NOTHING. Only the winner got a few bottles of wine. The cheapo owners of Oak Knoll should have given everyone who participated in the contest a free bottle of their wine. We drew so much business for them and we got Nada. Nothing for all our hard work. And the owners didn't give is a thank you card...for entering the contest. Nothing. But that is expected from Oregonians...they don't walk the talk. Vast selection at a great price. We visited a few wineries and this was the best selection. For $5 you choose 6 wines to taste. You have about 20 to choose from. If your new to wine tasting this is a great place to go. I wish they had a larger tasting room. All the other wineries had a great tasting setup but a small selection of wines.
