Group of 6 for some birthday celebrations. The waiter notified the manager and the complimentary drinks were on. Staff really works hard and the service is top notch. The food is incredible and the menu is pretty expansive. They do appetizers, sushi, main entrees and desserts. It is a small establishment on Trumbull but residential street parking is abundant. Be aware that for parties of 6 or more a 20% gratuity is added. We weren't aware of this until after we left. But the service was worth the extra large tip we left. We talked with many other patrons that frequent this place and they love it. The place was packed pretty quickly so a reservation is necessary. Our server JT was phenomenal and the Manager Jack even spent some time with us. You must eat here. It is an experience. Being of Japanese descent, the comfort food experience took me back to my mother's cooking. If you don't visit this restaurant, I apologize for your loss.

Absolutely beautiful incredible restaurant. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. There's two seating options one where you sit in traditional Japanese style and the one American style for the traditional Japanese style you remove your shoes and you sit crisscross applesauce. Food was absolutely delicious with vegan and vegetarian options.

Came here on a cold, snowy day when I was craving ramen or udon. I came with a group of friends and liked how the space is split. Half of it is a more traditional setup where you take off your shoes and sit in a wooden area, and the other half is regular tables and chairs. They are a popular sushi spot, but I went with the udon instead and it absolutely hit the spot. So warm, comforting, and exactly what I needed. One of my friends got the ramen and literally licked the bowl clean. Other friends ordered the lunch special bento boxes, which come with a nice little spread of sushi rolls, gyoza, takoyaki, and edamame. Overall, the food was good and satisfying. Service did slow down once it got busier, and there were only two waiters working, but they were really nice and doing their best. Huge plus for me was the bathroom. They have those fancy bidets like the ones in Korea and Japan

The sushi rolls are AMAZING! Whenever I'm in Detroit and craving sushi, this is the restaurant I'm going to. I strongly advise making reservations because they are very popular and are not guaranteed to have an open table for walk ins. I love the seating arrangements - there are options to sit on the floor with craved out space for your legs (no shoes allowed in this area so wear clean socks lol) - very comfortable and interesting dining option. My favorite/standout menu items are the popcorn lobster rolls (DELICIOUS!!) and the spicy edamame

Bash Original Izakaya used to be one of my favorite spots, so it's always nice to return, but this visit didn't quite hit the same high notes as before. We had the takoyaki, spicy tofu bites, avocado salad, tuna tartare, and a few sushi rolls. The takoyaki used to be much fluffier, lighter and evenly cooked inside when the restaurant first opened. This time, the batter felt undercooked in the center, and the sauce was a bit too heavy, overpowering the octopus, which was too chewy. The spicy tofu replaced my all time favorite agedashi tofu; it was light, airy, and delicately crisped in a subtle broth that let the tofu shine. The new spicy version comes with a thick batter and a bold sauce that overwhelmed and masked tofu's natural flavor. Really hoping they consider bringing the original back. The tuna tartare had potential - served on crispy fried wontons with avocado - but it could have used a splash of citrus or acid to brighten up the richness given how fatty the tuna, spicy mayo, and avocado are. The rolls were standard fare, nothing particularly memorable, but still enjoyable. The avocado salad was fresh and nicely plated, but nothing to call home about. On the service side, things were noticeably slow though. It wasn't overly busy, but we didn't get any refills and had three different people involved just to process our check. Didn't seem understaffed, just a bit disorganized or inattentive. Not a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind for busier evenings. All in all, still a decent meal, but I do miss some of the finesse and balance Bash had in its earlier days. Hoping for a return to form.

4.5 ! We loved our time at Bash. We had a party of 5 and split one of the platters which was definitely the right choice. I also added on the Black Dragon roll which was INCREDIBLE. We loved the ambiance, but the only downside was that it was a little loud, so we had a tough time talking at the table. Overall, though, I would definitely recommend a stop here!

My coworkers and I go to lunch together once a quarter for our team celebration. In October we chose Bash Original Izakaya, a casual Japanese eatery. The restaurant is located in the Woodbridge neighborhood adjacent to Midtown Detroit across the street from Wayne State University's football stadium. We opted for traditional seating, however, standard tables are available. The aesthetic is warm, and very much on theme. The menu seems small upon reading, but there is actually lots to choose from including a variety of sushi, ramen, platters of foods for sharing, Chicken Katsu, pork and beef Bento boxes. Appetizers included edamame, crispy wings, takoyaki, and more. I enjoyed the Pork Gyoza (fried pork dumplings) and a Bulgogi (steak) Bento Box. The team had desserts of Yuzu cheesecake, and Mochi after dinner. Everything was delicious. Service was friendly and accommodating. For large parties, they recommend reservations ordering ahead, because there is one chef and it takes time for him to prepare each meal. Street parking is available in front of the building and on the side streets. However, it can be challenging because there are several businesses surrounding the restaurant as well as our residences.

Great sushi & fast friendly service in Detroit. Had the Lion's Roll, Seaweed Salad, Pork Gyoza, Tuna Tartare, & the Chef's sashimi selection. Can't wait to come back and try more things!! Great menu with choices even for non-sushi peeps

Great place with good food and extensive sake choices. One of our favorites. Spicy tofu app was great (trust me!) And sushi was fresh and delicious. If you order a meal it's pricey but reasonable for what it is. Don't come here if you want sushi by the piece (as my husband does, sigh)--it gets astronomical pretty quickly. This last visit the service was unusually slow at the sushi bar, but usually not a problem.

We had evening reservations and were immediately seated. I wouldn't say the experience was super memorable, but I don't recall disliking anything. They had good drinks and a nice ambiance. Service was just okay as far as consistency, but definitely friendly! I had the Southwest Roll which was great and I'd love to try the BASH Signature Roll next time! Very solid place for sushi.

Everything we ordered was pretty mid. Maybe we just came with high expectations after hearing lots of good things but food was just ok. Our waitress also kept checking on us way too frequently throughout our meal that it felt quite uncomfortable.

The chicken karaage is so well seasoned and goes perfectly with all the items in the bowl. I ordered the fried chicken karate bowl and the chicken wasn't too dry, rice was cooked well and the kewpie sauce complemented the chicken. My friend loved her miso butter ramen. It was a huge portion and she couldn't eat it all. My only complaint is that the bathrooms could have used a touchup but everything else was great.

Having spent time exploring Japan and eating plenty of sushi there, this is probably the closest I've come in Michigan to recreating that experience. The focus is on traditional and straightforward: quality fish, careful preparation, and letting the ingredients speak for themselves rather than covering everything in sauces and toppings. The sushi and sashimi have been consistently excellent across my visits, and I especially appreciate that the menu goes well beyond the typical American sushi restaurant. There are plenty of traditional Japanese dishes and chef's-choice options, so it's a place where I'm always tempted to try something different. The atmosphere adds to the experience too. It has this intimate, neighborhood Japanese restaurant vibe that reminds me so much of stumbling upon a sushi spot in Kyoto. If you love traditional Japanese food and care more about quality and authenticity than elaborate specialty rolls, Sharaku is absolutely worth the trip. One of the best Japanese dining experiences I've found in Michigan, and a place I'll continue coming back to.

AMBIANCE - the place seemed very cozy, with booths, a handful of tables and seating at the sushi bar. This place was JUMPING on a Tuesday. I'm actually glad I made reservations. Bunch of old Asian dudes working behind the sushi counter - place seemed legit. SERVICE - our server was very attentive and was helpful with recommendations. He was very patient as we had MANY questions about the menu, and what we should be getting. MENU - this place had a pretty extensive menu. The first page of the menu had their daily specials which seemed to be a pretty deep selection by itself. They had many of your standard Japanese fare, though their appetizer list seemed to be deeper than most. They also had a fair number of sushi combos, however, according to our server, those are all chef's choice, and said they tended to be more basic type rolls/fish. One thing that was unfortunate was that the sushi rolls did not have a description of what was included in them, so we had to get clarification on a few of the rolls we were interested in. FOOD - we decided to get a smattering of items. we started with the deep fried oysters, chicken karage, and some along with some fried scallops they had on special. The oysters were good, while the karage and scallops were just "ok." Good, but nothing to write home about. We also ordered a couple of rolls - we did the spider rolls (soft shell crab), a tempura shrimp roll, dragon roll, and two eel nigiri. The eel nigiri were excellent. The rolls while good.... left me wanting a bit. From the other reviews that I read, this place is good on quality, and less on the quality, and this was on full display with the rolls. Besides the nigiri, the rolls seemed light, especially our spider roll which was only 4 pieces (I dont think I've ever seen that before). Even the dragon roll seemed small. We probably could have just gotten more nigiri in lieu of dragon roll. OVERALL - while the food was good, for the price you pay, it does not seem worth it. Maybe if we had gotten more nigiri or chirashi, we could have appreciated it more, but this place was too far and too expensive for what it was. Maybe the lunch specials make it worth coming here, but this would not be anywhere on my list of places to go for sushi in the metro Detroit area. Celebrity Rating - Salt Bae

Lots of seating for groups. The corn dog was surprisingly good. They are dusted with granulated sugar. Noodles were a little overdone / soggy but I still enjoyed the taste. When the Korean woman was pouring the soup into the container over the SINK, she dropped the container into the sink and then I saw her scoop up the beef and noodles with her hands back into the container. She then proceeded to just add more soup to the container and pack it up for me. When I confronted her about it, he acted dumb and said it didn't happen. I told her I was waiting on the side where I could see into the kitchen, she said o the content spilled into an empty pot in the sink, but then I pointed out some of the spilled ingredients still in the pool of dirty water in the sink, she still tried to deny it. She wasn't willing to make me a new one, I was adamant about getting a new soup or my money back, she eventually relented and agreed to make me a new soup. I was so upset that I didn't stand in the kitchen to make sure whether or not she just gave me the old container. I got angrier thinking about this on the way home, now I don't feel comfortable dirnking this soup and am throwing it away.
